Face-off
Chapter 7: Face-off
We study each other for a moment. * Damn he's gotten bigger * he's wearing black army pants, with a black jacket and combat boots, but no goggles. Shining eyes size me up, but I hold my ground.
His trigger finger relaxes a bit "You look good, kid." His gun lowers to his side. For a second I think of doing the same, but that would be foolish. He notices my apprehension "Relax Jack, I'm not going to hurt you ".
"Funny, I've heard that before and the name's Nyla." *Jack is gone * I move in closer to him, just enough to take a better look at him.
Riddick's eyes shimmer for an instant "I don't have time for this" he turns his back to me, punching in codes in the cell pad, trying to free Jason.
With a snicker I say, "You need clearance to open that cell." he turns to face me and crosses his arms.
"And I suppose you have clearance?" he asks with a frown. I shrug, placing my gun in my holster * He needs me now *
In a second we are face to face, his breath on my skin and I swallow hard, hoping he doesn't notice how nervous I really am.
" Maybe, I'll give you the code if you answer one question." My eyes don't leave his for a second. He raises an eyebrow and says OK. "Is Jason your son?" the words come out sounding hurtful, but I don't care.
Riddick throws his head back in laughter *God I missed that sound * "My son? No. Jack I mean... Nyla, I need that code." He says certain of himself. Outside the corridors I can hear whispers *Guards! * If they found him in here they would die. I find myself in front of the cell pad, typing away *What the hell am I doing? * I'm done punching in the code, but now I'm faced with a decision. There are two buttons; a red one and a green one. The red one would perform a lock down on all doors, allowing only Sky Marshal's access to any rooms on the base. The green one would release Jason and give Riddick passage to the docks.
Riddick glances at me then at the cell pad reading it ~ Please push Green button for clearance or Red button for system lock down ~
"What's the verdict Jack? Red or green?" his arm resting above the cell pad, his eyes piercing through me. My fist swings out, punching the green one, the glass door slides open and Jason runs out. Riddick kneels down and smiles at him, his eyes are full of tenderness for this child.
He ruffles Jason's hair, "You OK, buddy?" Jason nods and smiles.
"Took you long enough!" Jason spats and Riddick laughs getting back up "They're coming" Jason says, Riddick nods, taking his gun out, preparing to face the guards in the corridor. *No *
I run into the corridor and yell at the guards "He's headed for the platform, he's got the kid!" the guards double back. "Come with me" I whisper to Riddick, he follows me, staying in the shadows. About 100 meters away from his ship, but Riddick stops abruptly. I turn and give him a quizzical look.
With his nose he points to the upper lever ~ the balcony, where people stand and wave to say goodbye to loved ones departing on ships. Heavily armed guards surround it. The Death Row begins to power up, which lets me know the woman is already on board. My brain begins to work but there is no way I can get them past the guards.
"I can't get you through" I tell him disappointed.
Riddick shoots me a hopeful smile "Yes, you can." With that he grabs me, puts me in a headlock, pointing the gun to my head. With his other hand he grabs Jason.
"What the fuck are you doing? Stop!" we enter the open space between the safe confinements of the corridors and the ship. I can hear the guards yelling for him to stop, others yelling, "He's got a hostage"
I try to struggle, but he has a death grip on me "You indescribable piece of shit!" I hiss at him, he chuckles. The ramp lowers and we step up on it.
"Nothing personal, Jack." He twists me around, kisses my cheek and pushes me roughly off the ramp. I land on my side, my hipbone hits the floor full force and I can hear something crack. *Ouch* One of the guards hurries to my side and pulls me out of the way, before the engines fire up. Next thing I see is the Death Row, blasting away, the heat is so intense I have to cover my face.
*Did that just happen? * My ras bos boiling up inside me. Darting up from the floor, I sprint to the Command Bridge. Chief Carmine is frantic, yelling at the technicians seated at the terminals.
"Find them, now! I don't care what you have to do or how long it takes!" he stomps to his office and I follow. "What can I do for you Richards?" he says sitting on his desk.
"I want the job, Sir." My mind is set. The look he gives me is of satisfaction, he knew I'd take the job, just not this soon.
"Excellent." He punches in the order on his console. Quickly he calls in Smith and explains the details of the operation to us. We would depart immediately.
To be continued...
