Sacrifices
Chapter 26: Sacrifices
Saia, Jack and Jason head to a recreation center for children nearby. Saia sits while Jack and Jason run around the place, playing games and laser tag.
Saia is an old fashioned woman. She grew up in Kyiebu, her parents as well had lived all their lives there. As a child she never thought anything was special about her. Everyone around her was a psyche. It was natural to them. Little did she know how hard her parents and all the Kyies had fought to keep this planet a secret. To the outside world they were freaks. Whenever a Kyie was caught outside their system they were either executed or used as slaves for some greedy bets man.
Her world was perfect, loving parents and good friends. They day she met Ryan she’d fallen in love instantly. Kano and Queale, both Kyies and very wealthy people, had adopted Ryan when he was only 6 years old. The orphanage had failed to tell them that he was a twin. Saia can’t help but wonder what would’ve happened if they had also adopted Riddick. How different would his life be? Or what if Ryan had never been adopted? Would his fate been the same as that of his brother?
Saia attended her academy’s 4th quarter ball and that’s where they met. Ryan spotted Saia first. She had a long white gown that made her tanned skin glow. Her voluptuous curves made his heart skip a beat. Her hair was loose in wild curls and her deep blue eyes were hypnotic.
When Saia saw Ryan staring at her from across the room, she’d nearly tripped over a classmate. His presence was overwhelming. He wore a thick goatee that gave him a rogue look. The dress shirt he wore did nothing to hide his muscles. When he realized she was staring at him, he gave her a smile that made her look away nervously. When Saia gathered the courage to look back at him he was gone. She looked all over the dance floor, but nothing. She murmured a ‘Shit’ and turned to join her friends, but ran smack dab into him.
“Looking for someone?” had been his first words to her. His voice was deep and sexy. She remained speechless for a moment, only managing a smile. After that day they’d been inseparable. Saia’s family accepted him immediately. Ryan’s family loved Saia and soon after they were married. The wedding was beautiful and Kano insisted in having only the best of for his son and daughter-in-law.
Saia smiled to herself at the memories of her wedding night. She was a virgin and had been nervous as all hell. Ryan was an incredible lover, gentle, passionate, attentive and romantic. He’s all she ever asked for.
“Mommy, look at me!” Jason yells, riding a hovercraft around a closed track, Jack chasing him and giggling like a child.
Jason was born two years after they were married, the most incredible day of her life. Ryan had been so nervous, but brave at the same time. Unlike most men he wanted a girl very badly, but when Jason had been born he forgot all about his wishes for a girl. Jason was exactly what he wished for. He was perfect, he had their skin tone and his mothers eyes. Immediately Ryan knew the boy was gifted, he had this look of knowledge in his eyes.
Riddick spots Saia and he sits next to her watching Jason and Jack play, a grin on his face. Riddick has been the best with her and Jason. He’s overly protective of her son and she’s thankful for that. Like Ryan, Riddick has sacrificed part of his life to protect them, but she’ll make sure he’ll never die for them, like Ryan had.
Deacon is not far behind, he stays in the sidelines, close enough for them to know he’s there, but far enough so as not to bother them. Jack looks so innocent and carefree playing with Jason. Not a care in the world. But Deacon knows better, she’s probably worried sick, but she would never show it. He looks away disgusted with the thought of what he was hired to do. The view has changed, he now knows what Riddick is fighting for and promises himself to protect them, all of them from the Corporation.
“You done already?” Saia asks and Riddick nods. Looking at him sometimes still sent shivers down her spine, the resemblance is uncanny. It also brings the bad memories back. Like the day Ryan was taken from her. He’d sacrificed himself to save her and their son. Her heartache isn’t gone. Her guilt will never go away, but the pain has gotten better. Riddick one day will make an extraordinary father. Jack will be a wonderful mother. Those two will be very happy one day.
