Intercept
Chapter 25: Intercept
Nate Jordan is as high as you will get in The Federation. No one takes a piss without his approval. Besides possessing a striking resemblance to William C. Johns, Nate also shares his hatred for Public Enemy #1; Richard B. Riddick. Nate had only met Riddick a few times. After all Riddick was HIS project, his triumph gone wrong. Chief Bruce Carmine, his best and most loyal cadet volunteered to look out for the child. With his background as a family he fit the profile perfectly. After Riddick escaped and the news went public of what The Federation was doing he had to put a stop to the experiment. In other words Riddick had thrown a huge monkey wrench in his plans.
The Blue Eyed Devil sits impatiently for the news of Riddick’s whereabouts. He’d been waiting for this moment for a very, very long time. Now that he’s this close to getting his revenge, he wouldn’t fail, not again. A knock on the door disturbs his thoughts.
“What!” he yells and the door swings open.
A fat little man wobbles in the room, to the front of his desk, “We found them Sir. They’ve stationed on a planet called Oujda a star jump away from the Remora system.” Nervously the plump officer settles the paperwork on Nate’s desk. With one look the man hurries out of the door. Nate sits there with a wicked grin on his face.
“Careless Riddick. Very careless, I’m disappointed” he murmurs to himself. He beckons to his secretary through the comm unit.
“Beth, ready my ship and my troopers. We’re headed to Oujda... Oh and get Chief Carmine on the line, immediately” he disconnects and waits.
“Carmine here” Bruce answers, nervously. If Nate Jordan was calling something was definitely wrong, no way did the top guy from the Corporation give you a social call.
“Chief Carmine, so glad to hear from you. Any word on the child?” he asks with a cynical tone.
“Not yet Sir, we are working on it as we speak, but I assure...” Nate cuts him off.
“As of right now you are to terminate any ongoing search for the child and Richard B. Riddick. I’m taking over personally. Thank you for all of your hard work, I’ll keep in contact.” The line goes dead.
Carmine is furious, he can’t believe that after all these years they would just take this away from him. He’s worked too hard for too long. It dawns on him that they no longer are interested in Riddick. What will they do to him once he’s captured? They can’t kill him. They wouldn’t dare go that far. Would they? He can feel Fitz’s presence behind him. She must have heard the conversation with Nate. He turns and looks at her with a questioning look.
With a look of defiance she asks, “Orders Sir?” That’s all he needs to hear.
“Let’s go find them, before the Federation does” she nods and gives him a confident smile.
This time Bruce Carmine won’t let the Federation win. If Riddick is to be brought to justice he’d be the one to do it... his way.
