Breach
Chapter 14: Breach
“What is it, Deacon?” I run to the terminal, a little annoyed by the interruption.
“The tower just initiated a body scan. That means they suspect something.” Deacon is slowly losing his cool.
“Deacon, can you stall them?” I ask sternly
Holding his head in uncertainty “For a few minutes only.” he answers me.
“Do it... Riddick come with me” God I hope I know what I’m doing. We run to the dojo section and head in to the showers.
“Strip” I tell him and he raises an eyebrow. “Just do it!” I tell him, he complies. My breath is caught in my throat as he remains in only his black briefs that do nothing to conceal his huge bulk.
“Now what do you want me to do?” his voice low and sexy.
“I need you to get into that tub and lay down” he gets in and groans as the cold tile makes contact with his skin. “You think that’s cold?” What I do next is sure to get me in trouble. I turn on the cold water; Riddick growls in protest giving me scolding look. “Sorry, but the scanners go off of our body heat. I have to get yours down and now.” I press the comm. unit next to he tub.
“How are we doing, Deacon?” my own voice urgent.
“You have approximately 2 minutes before they have access to scan the ship! Darling, I suggest you hurry up!” Deacon says.
I stand up turning the temperature of the room all the way down to 20 degrees.
“How you doing?” I ask Riddick, who’s not even shivering yet.
“Peachy.” his says sarcastically, the water is almost covering him.
“OK, listen, you’re going to have to hold your breath, because the scanner can pick up the heat from your breathing alone. How long can you hold your breath?” I ask, concerned.
“Long enough.” he answers.
Deacon interrupts through the comm. system, “They’re scanning the ship now, Nyla!”
Riddick winks at me, “See you soon, kid.” He takes a gulp of breath and goes under the water. My own breathing stops with his. I run back to flight control and sit down next to Deacon. His face is pale and I can tell he is worried sick. All we can do now is wait.
“Running body scan now, Sir.” cadet Fitz informs. Carmine paces back and forth looking at the screens anxiously waiting for the results.
“What’s the body count?” he stops pacing concentration on the cadet.
““Body scan shows two adults, and on-board Maddox computer shows 1 child in cryo-locker. That’s all, Sir.” she looks towards Carmine with a suggestive smile. Carmine’s posture relaxes a bit.
“Carmine to Maddox, welcome home kids!” He pats Fitz on her shoulder then he walks out to the docks to prepare for their arrival.
Deacon lets out a huge sigh and looks at me wide eyed.
“Sorry for putting you through this, Deacon.” I honestly say. He shakes his head and smiles heading towards Jason to wake him up.
I run to the showers again to tell Riddick its safe. I look inside the tub and begin to laugh; his face is a purplish blue. My hand grabs his shoulder and I pull him out. He gasps loudly for air, his chest heaving in and out.
I tilt my head to the side, “Lungs aren’t what they used to be, huh?” I mock. He smiles devilishly and with that pulls me in the freezing water with him. I let out a scream from the shock the water gives me.
“Now talk shit!” Riddick says climbing out of the tub, helping me get out as well. I punch him in the arm and he bellows in laughter, “What, not cold enough for you?”
Deacon reaches the showers and gives us both a smile shaking his head. “We dock in 45 minutes, guys.”
After we change into some warm, dry clothes, I hand Riddick my personal hand held comm-link. It contains a complete blue print of all the sectors, including the laboratory where Jason would be held. Deacon and my own personal numbers are stored so he can reach us with the touch of one button. I stress the fact that he’s not to come out of the ship until after 2200 hours. Only then will the lights go out, something he could use to his advantage.
The ship docks and we can hear the airlock begin to open. I turn towards him before heading towards the ramp.
“Be careful.” I try to sound calm ~ the truth is I’m scared to death. His hand caresses my face gently.
“I will.” I look into his eyes and pray *Please don’t let this be the last time I get to look into those eyes * I quickly turn to leave, but he grabs me by my arm and embraces me.
Our lips meet in a force of restrained passion and fear.
Although the kiss is short, it leaves an indescribable effect in me. We look into each others eyes and I whisper to him “Don’t get killed, OK?” and I sigh.
“Don’t get caught.” he whispers back.
Deacon is holding Jason’s hand and gives me a sad smile, “Show time, honey.” I nod and when I look back Riddick is gone. Hiding inside the ship somewhere. The ramp lowers and we are greeted by everyone on Orson station.
