Chapter 1: OSMBC
(Orson space military base camp)
Orson is a huge planet, housing Military Officers and their families. There's practically no life on here, so everything is man made. Steal dwellings are scattered all over the surface. The military camp sits just outside the atmosphere, orbiting along with the planet.
Tiredly I step into my living quarters. A fairly big, dark and cold room ~ I guess I'd grown accustomed to the darkness. *Anotherkingking miserable day * I thought that by now I' be used to the damn training, but these fuck-heads keep pushing me more and more. I have to admit, it gave me a kick to see the damn Squadron Leader's face go red when I finished the trials a week ahead of schedule. It took all my strength to withhold from spurting out and saying "Courtesy of Richard B. Riddick and storming out. But I can't do that, everyone in the military thinks he's dead and as far as I'm concerned he might as well be. Stepping out of the small shower I put on my gray loungewear.
"If you could see me now Riddick" I look in the mirror, combing through my shoulder length hair. I lay down on my poor excuse of a bed and stare at the ceiling. "Here we go" it became almost a ritual, I'd lay down and all my thoughts would wander back... way back.
~~~~ Riddick navigated the skiff back to the New Tangier system, making our way to New Mecca. It's a beautiful planet. The people there took very good care of it, there are actual rivers with waterfalls and everything, the sky is blue and the air smelled fresh. We acquired new identities there. He'd meant it when he said Richard B. Riddick had died on that planet. I became Nyla Richard, in his honor of course. He'd been opposed to it but gave in after my constant whining. He even let me choose his name Devin Riley, he didn't even argue about it. Imam chose his name according to his religion of course. It was so difficult to pronounce; I can't even remember it. After we spent about a month on New Mecca Riddick... I mean Devin decided it was time to go. I remember being so nervous approaching him but worked on my courage until I did.
"Uhm, I just wanted to know if you wanted some company when you leave this rock," I'd bravely asked. He of course knew the question was inevitable. I'm glad he hadn't been wearing his goggles at the time. I could see the concern in his eyes. To my astonishment he said YES! Probably the best and worst day of my life. ~~~~
A rattling noise disturbs my flashback. Being a light sleeper doesn't help much either. I check my chrono and see that I've only slept for 3 hours. Shit! I'll never be able to go back to sleep. I get out of bed and peek through my peephole. I hit the airlock for my door, which makes a loud swoosh causing Deacon to jump back.
"For crying out loud Nyla, you scared the crap out of me' Deacon Smith is my training partner and the only person who knows my past, what he needs to know anyway. We dorm together for the moment. Standing at about 5'11" he has big blue eyes, black hair with highlights and a nicely toned body.
"Past curfew Officer, if a Major caught you we'd be in a heap of trouble" I sneer at him and shut the door, making sure no one else sees him come in this late. The hallways are dimly lit, giving it an eerie feeling. I go back to my bunk and try effortlessly to go back to sleep. My eyes remain open regardless of my attempts to will them closed.
"Daydreaming about him again?" Deacon asks leaning by the wall next to my bunk. I smile *You have no idea* the truth is I told Deacon about Devin, not Riddick. I simply nod, closing my eyes, to dream about him, it's the only way I'll fall asleep tonight.
"What else is new right?" he says, dodging my pillow. No point in arguing with that. Riddick is always in my mind, whether I like it or I a I am who I am because of Riddick, sometimes I don't know if that's a good thing or not. Around me sirens go off breaking my thoughts. Red lights are flashing and I'm up in a flash, I almost bump heads with Deacon who is also up and about.
"What the fuck is happening?" I ask pulling my blue flight uniform on. Deacon shrugs, hitting the airlock and running out, I follow to find the rest of the squadron running towards the brig, the sound of boots pounding on the metal floor echoes in my head.
