Tumbleweed’s was just another mall, nothing special in it. However it was quite easy to shoplift from certain stores, embarrassingly easy. One could practically waltz out of the entrances and nobody would stop the thief.
That’s why she went that day, to take a few new clothes with her. Making sure the light gray sweater she was wearing was loose enough to hide several layers of clothes; the gal entered the store, browsing the possible targets.
After picking four blouses she located the dressing rooms, making sure nobody saw her for too long. She hung the sweater and one of the blouses on the hanger attached to the wall and started dressing.
She had no idea about the bizarre monster that was flying towards her.
Nobody in the mall knew where it came from. All they knew is that it burst through the windows of one of the clothing stores. Some clients were leisurely picking clothes, buying the merchandise, when suddenly that...creature broke the glass and entered the store.
The hit seemed to daze it for a moment, but in matter of seconds the creature recovered and spread its wings. It seemed a bizarre cross between a large bird and a reptile, possibly a dragon. For a moment nobody knew what to do, but that moment was gone quickly. Human instinct was to fight or flee, and of course nobody was going to fight such a creature. Its talons were terribly sharp; one attack from those could gravely wound anybody.
Maybe the screams startled it, maybe it was naturally an aggressive creature or maybe it was hungry and the humans in the store seemed as good a snack as any. It moved awkwardly, as if it couldn’t decide if it wanted to move in a bipedal or a quadruped way. Everybody ran away, the store being abandoned quickly. The creature stayed behind, dazed, but after a while it recovered enough to go towards the nearest human. The poor young man who fell to the floor and hit his head didn’t know what happened to him. While he was unconscious the creature grabbed his feet, grasping onto the fabric of the clothes and dragged them into its mouth. The creature swallowed ravenously, raising its head high and hurriedly shoving the human down its throat, without making the slightest chewing motion. In matter of seconds the human, being put into a very uncomfortable position, was deposited in its stomach, fated to disappear without a trace.
The second human the creature caught had unwittingly entered the store while everybody else ran outside, not giving it any importance. The second human didn’t even advance a few steps before the creature caught her. The second human screamed, dropping what she had been carrying, and tried to crawl away. The creature grabbed her, its claws piercing the human’s skin, and dragged her towards its mouth with unexpected speed. The second human screamed further, trying to get away desperately, and only yelled louder when the creature put her head onto its mouth, licking her face sloppily. With a bit more of calm, after having eaten one person already, the creature swallowed the second person, ignoring her screams. The second human tried to hit the creature’s head with her hands, but nothing she did affected the strange bird/dragon. The creature raised its head high to make easier the swallowing process and finished eating the human in few seconds. The unfortunate woman didn’t have a lot of space in the insides of the creature; the first victim was already taking most of the space. Luckily for her she wouldn’t suffer the harsh burns of the acid that would dissolve her before long as she asphyxiated due to the lack of breathable air.
A third person had hidden between some clothes racks, but the creature wasn’t as agile and fast as it had been just a few minutes ago. Sure, it could still move quickly, but despite having noticed the hidden person and having grabbed its ankles he managed to escape, although his ankles had been seriously wounded. The creature watched the formerly hidden human crawl/run away, panting. After taking a moment to get used to the added weight of its meal, the creature smelled the air. Its smell sense wasn’t the best, but it could sense one last human in the store. The creature followed the smell, its instincts already planning how it’d deal with whoever it was going to find.
The gal had the terrible luck to be in the dressing rooms when the creature got into the store, and as such was the last human in the store.
-ooooo-
Singing to herself, the gal put on a purple blouse and grabbed a lavender one. It was going well, nobody had seen her for long and before anybody knew it she would be gone.
The creature knocked on the door, having detected the human. The wooden barrier was confusing in a sense; it wasn’t sure if it was some kind of container or if breaking it would harm what was inside.
“Just a minute!” the gal said from the other side of the barrier. Wanting to elicit another reaction, the creature knocked again. The gal grabbed a third blouse, still singing cheerfully.
“Just a second, please!” she said a bit more forcefully and focusing on her shoplifting task.
The creature knocked with more urgency, feeling something similar to amusement. The owner of the increasingly shrill voice from the other side was about to come out, it knew it. The result was as expected. “I said just a second, bitch!” the gal, frustrated, made emphasis on the last word.
Hurrying to put on the sweater she had been wearing at the beginning, she kept muttering angrily at the ‘person’, and then opened the door.
The shock and fear was enough to paralyze her mind for a second. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing, it was impossible!
And terrifying. Especially terrifying.
Only when it bared its large teeth and growled she registered she could move. She did the only action anybody would do when encountered with something so sudden and terrifying.
She screamed.
As if her scream had angered the creature, it roared. The gal tried to grab onto the wall of the dressing room, the creature instead going straight for the prize. It launched itself towards the gal, grabbing her. The gal continued screaming, letting go the clothes it had briefly grabbed onto. The creature opened its wings and jumped upwards, ready to fly.
They crashed shortly after the jump, the blow not affecting the creature but the gal in its claws taking the brunt of the impact. The creature took a moment for its natural instincts to indicate how it should fly without the contents of its stomach making it fall, until it managed to finally flap its wings and escape flying from the store.
The buyers and store owners were running away in stampede, having already heard of the creature that had crashed in the clothing store. The panic increased when it was seen flying near the glass ceiling of the mall. The creature, knowing how painful it was to crash through that transparent surface that was covering the path to the skies, decided to look for an alternate way out. And the poor shoplifter who had gotten caught on something that not even her wildest nightmares could have predicted couldn’t do anything else other than screaming.
Her throat soon got raw after screaming for a good while, so she shut up to gather her thoughts. It was kind of obvious the reason the creature had managed to get such a good hold of her was because the layers of clothing she was wearing. In a sense it was an ironic punishment for her stealing behaviors, although if it hadn’t been for that the bird/dragon’s claws would be digging onto her skin. Being carried away by a monster was already traumatic enough; she wouldn’t have needed that kind of wounds to feel even worse.
Every minute felt like an hour, the creature getting more anxious of not being able to find a way out. In the distance a corny song sounded, being sang very off-key. The creature turned its head towards where the sound was coming from, but before it could turn around and start flying in that direction, maybe thinking it was some sort of call from another of its species, the song was cut off. Perhaps somebody had interrupted the singer out of secondhand shame.
Nobody in the world would ever know that if the song hadn’t been interrupted everything would have been over in matter of minutes.
Seconds after the song was gone the creature saw a sliver of intense light in the distance. Feeling the call of freedom, it suddenly dived towards the light, finding an entrance wide open. Not too far away from it there were police cars forming an useless barricade, dozens of policemen hiding behind those cars with their guns ready to shoot towards anything monstrous coming out of the mall.
Seeing all those cops the gal shouted. “Help me, please! Help me!” The policemen were too slow or too clumsy, they shot but the bullets didn’t even come close to hit the creature or even the gal in its grasp. Invigorated by the fresh air, the creature flew higher, out of the reach of the police, and decided to go towards the desert mountains in the distance. Those mountains seemed like a great place to make a nest, which was the next thing its instincts told it to do. Hunger had been satiated, now it was time to return home.
The last words anybody ever heard from that gal kidnapped by the creature were: “Somebody save me! I promise, for the love of God, that I won’t shoplift ever, ever again! Just please, save me!”
-ooooo-
The arid mountains the creature had chosen as a potential home were everything it hoped it’d have. Unreachable by any of those humans, warm and calm, in a sense. The creature flied in circles over the mountains, looking for a cave it could claim for itself. There was a small hole on the wall of the mountain, and peering inside it the creature found an empty space where it’d fit at least a dozen times. Clearly the perfect place for a nest. “What’s going on?!” the gal had been screaming for a while already. She was starting to lose hope of being found or even getting away unscathed. Soon she was unceremoniously shoved into the cave the creature had found.
The gal cursed her luck under her breath and tried to blend in the shadows, staying as far away of the creature as she could. Sure, she was trapped on the walls of the mountain, but once the creature got away she could focus on trying to find a way to escape. She was convinced the creature was going to eat her at some point, after all, isn’t that what monsters do? Eat people?
Either the creature was able to see in complete darkness or it had a measure of intelligence and knew that the gal didn’t simply disappear, as at soon as it entered it directly looked at her eyes, but soon ignored her. There were a minutes of calm where the gal carefully watched the creature’s movements. It was scuttling around, scratching at the soft soil of the cave until a wide hole was formed, and apparently ignoring the gal. She held her breath and slowly moved, always staying in contact with the stone. Her aching back stung, the claws of the beast managed to hurt her skin, and the rough stone didn’t help either, even despite its layers of stolen clothing.
She had barely walked ten meters when the creature turned around and saw her. Growling again, it analyzed its instincts again. Feeding, done. Nest, done. Next was...huh. If it had been a sapient creature it may have marveled at how quick its species developed, as the very next instinct it had in mind was breeding.
But as it was not, the only thing that happened was that the beast grabbed the human, screeching, and threw her into the nest. The gal continued her screaming, terrified out of her mind, as the creature savagely shredded the clothes that had covered her. Soon the skin of her arms, back and abdomen were crisscrossed with gashes, bleeding profusely. It was to be expected with such long claws.
In matter of seconds her naked form laid shivering onto the hole, not having any strength to move. Her throat hurt, her whole body ached and she was very afraid to see what else was going to happen. The creature, ignoring how the gal felt, lifted her body and let its penis emerge from its cloaca, ready to start the breeding process. The mere thought of it was torture for the gal, as expected. If she survived that wouldn’t result in offspring, right? The last thing she wanted was to give birth to more of those creatures.
As anything else the creature did, the breeding was rough and completely devoid of any tenderness. The creature plunged its penis into the gal’s vagina, making her scream in surprise at the sudden intrusion. She hadn’t been ready at all, and during the process she didn’t have a moment of respite. She was shaken around, moved in all directions and was in direct contact with the skin of the creature itself, it making sure the penis was as deep as possible inside the human. The gal could feel her vaginal canal struggled to accommodate itself to the intrusive appendage, but there wasn’t much to be done other than trying not to hurt herself.
And despite all, she found a sense of enjoyment in the whole matter. Maybe it had been a kink not discovered until that point, maybe she was starting to go insane, or maybe it was just a mechanism her brain had to block out the traumatic experience. That didn’t matter to her; all she knew was that she was enjoying what was going on. Her screams of fright lessened, allowing screams of ecstasy to erupt from her mouth. She outright liked what was going on. Her eyes filled with tears of pain and pleasure while the creature continued its screeching. She had no idea if the ordeal was meaningful in any way to it, to him, the sounds the beast made didn’t tell anything.
The copulation took only a few minutes. As suddenly as it started, the beast quickly took out its penis from the human and retracted it back into his cloaca, and then he jumped away from the human. There was nothing else to do; its instincts were completely appeased at least for now. All there was left to do was to let the female bear the offspring, and if didn’t work, then try again, whether it was with that human or with any other female being he could find.
The gal pitifully crawled again, her mind rejecting what had happened, she was bloodied everywhere. Anybody would say it was a repulsive situation, crude and traumatizing. She was crying, whimpering, although from time to time a bit of laughter escaped from her lips. She was slowly losing her mind as a way to protect herself from the horrible situation she had fallen into.
In her life she had never felt so powerless, but despite that, she was somewhat...satisfied.
In matter of hours she was in fetal position on the deepest wall of the cave, looking blankly at the sunset. How did her life turn into being the mate of a monster? Would she get used to that? If she was rescued, would she ever leave it behind? Would a psychologist or a therapist really be able to help her?
...would she ever get down of the mountain?
She had stopped bleeding, the dried blood on her skin starting to flake off. She stayed in the same position during the whole night, her mind replaying random moments of her life.
The gal barely slept, always staring blankly. The creature slept in the nest with his head under his wing, not caring or even able to understand the human’s plight.
Only a few hours after dawn, when the creature had flown away, she understood she was alive. Other than the brutal copulation nothing had happened to her. Could it be that the bird/dragon didn’t even plan to eat her?
With that spot of hope a bit of her humanity returned. She stood up, feeling weakened, and walked to the entrance of the cave to see if there was any way to descend. Fearing the sudden return of the creature she peered outside, feeling disheartened. The wall of the mountain was almost completely vertical; anything would mean a guaranteed death. Maybe staying alive wasn’t that bad of an alternative. It was a matter of seeing what would happen now.
Her mind shut down to anything related to death or escaping. She was resolute to endure and enjoy her situation, no matter what it took. Soon she was once again against the wall without moving.
It wasn’t long until the creature returned, but it wasn’t alone. It had brought food. An unfortunate person had been caught in the city by the creature and had been chosen as one of the meals. Normally it would have eaten that person directly where he had found it, but his instinct told him that he should keep the potential mother of his offspring fed. He killed the person quickly and after eating a different one, he brought the person to the cave.
The gal looked at the corpse of what would be her food. Something in her mind had broken, as she had no reaction to see a freshly killed human. Her stomach growled, she was feeling weaker every hour and it was obvious it was because she hadn’t eaten anything in almost one day. The only source of food would be...
The creature observed the gal, waiting for her to bite the food. He didn’t expect her to eat it whole like he normally did, but the least she could do was to take some bites. And so she did.
The gal grabbed the arm of the person and lifted it in the air, keeping it straight. After giving a look at the monster she bit deeply into the muscles of the arm, feeling how her teeth sank into the flesh and the blood touched her tongue. Her primal instincts, long forgotten, resurfaced, making her put the hand in her mouth.
She ate with no feelings at all, just focusing on doing what was necessary to stay alive. Slowly she kept swallowing and pushing more of the arm in her mouth, ignoring the taste or how the arm distended her throat and was deposited in her stomach. The creature watched her while she ate approving the appetite she showed. Seeing how she had only eaten a minuscule portion of the kill, he bit the shoulder socket until the arm was severed and claimed the rest of the body for himself, swallowing it whole like he always did. The gal finished the arm until all of its length was inside her body, slowly folding into itself.
A routine was established. The beast would bring a piece of the freshly killed human for the gal. She’d always accept it, not having any other source of sustenance. Besides, there was something else going on, something she hadn’t truly expected to happen.
There was something growing inside her.
Did the creature manage to create offspring with her? Would she produce a horrible mix between their radically different species? She had no idea and frankly she didn’t care. She wasn’t in a situation where she was going to care about anything anymore. She was too hopeless for that.
During the next few months the offspring grew inside her. The gal would place her hands onto her belly and she’d find something round and terse growing inside her, but strangely enough it wasn’t in her womb. It was higher than that, directly below her sternum, as if the offspring were in her stomach.
Her abdomen stretched at that point until a lump filled the space there, pushing her organs aside, but it didn’t hurt. She couldn’t feel anything at all inside her.
Around six months after the impregnation the offspring was born while the monster was away, hunting. If she had a functioning and healthy mind at that point then it was very likely it would have been afflicted by once another traumatizing moment in her new life.
It started with nausea; the gal felt that symptom for several days before the birth. That should have been her hint to know how it was going to happen, but she didn’t pay attention to that. When the time came she felt a sudden pain below her sternum, as if something had kicked her there. The offspring started moving upwards towards her throat, pressing her lungs and heart. She couldn’t breathe; she felt her heartbeat almost stopping. It lasted a few seconds before the offspring reached her mouth, stretching it open.
She didn’t spew anything that resembled the father of the newly-born creature, at least at first sight. It was a malleable and pink sac with a living being inside it. Somehow that sac had grown inside her body in what anybody would have thought was an impossible process, and she had expelled it through her mouth. Maybe that’s something the creature’s species usually did?
Shortly after the expulsion the offspring pierced the sac, releasing itself onto the world. It was a perfect replica of its father to the slightest detail, there was nothing that would hint it had grown inside a human.
When the father returned he took the creature outside, possibly to teach it to fly. The gal didn’t try to see, she stayed holed up in the cave near a wall, as she usually was.
The rest of her life was just a few years longer. She had four offspring more, the creature impregnating her every time a few months after the offspring learned to hunt by themselves. At that point they always left the nest to never return.
It was undeniable she was living as comfortable as possible. She had gotten used to it and now enjoyed her life, although now she didn’t identify herself as a human. For all she knew she was the creature’s mate, one of them.
She never heard again of the world outside or of what had happened to it. What she did notice is that the bird/dragon didn’t bring as many humans as before, as if their number had decreased.
Humanity didn’t matter anymore. She had a new life and that was what mattered.
