Good news! I've started posting the new story. [No, shit.] I have the story restructured and is ready top rewrite. I know I said the whole thing was gonna be done by this month, but I am actually rewriting the whole thing, so yeah... by it's for the best I'm told, as the story-board for the revamp received much more interest from colleagues than the previous :)
If you haven't read part one The Fighting Irish: To Hell and Back With Love, then suggest you give a quick glance. I know it's NoSex story, but it at least is adventurous and exciting....And... I am a comic/novel canon kinda person. I feel the Predator movies are canon, but not the AvP, though I like them. As far as AvP goes, I go by the PRE-1998 novels and comics for canon-crap. But I believe in Lucas philosophy that [somehow] "it's all canon". I say this because I don't feel like going through another argument over it.So, as usual there is my style of writing concerning multiple languages which I will paste on here, but I want to make a quick note. Jesse speaks multiple languages to begin with. I know one of them pretty well, the other my friend gives pointers on. Thanks to Google.Translate, I can get it out onto the page. On occasions where a few lines are in foreign languages, I will write them in the language. But there are instances where an entire chapter of dialogue are in say...French or Irish. Therefore, I'm just going to through it in English and possibly in italics depending on who else is involved. So...if you're froggy, have you a tab for Google.Translate or whatever you trust to translate for you ready. Most of it isn't important, but it's interesting.
Prologue: Six Years Ago
It was very bright, but the wind cooled the noon day over the University of Wyoming. It was mid-March and mid-term week for the graduate students, and though most of their classmates were still thinking over paper and pen in the biological labs, five sat on a warm patch of grass in the courtyard in front of the Applied Sciences College building. It was an older building resembling the Buckingham Palace minus a few thousand rooms and 800,000 square feet. It was not the most beautiful or whimsical building on campus, but it had its aesthetics, enough for the five grad-students to remain nearby and unwind.
"How you think you did, puddin'?" Evan Phillips gave his wife Lillian a nudge in her shoulder.
Lillian was fiddling with their lunch box in search of a particular snack. She was eight months pregnant and looked as though she would pop like a soap-bubble. Her blonde hair was pulled tightly back in a long, tame braid. "I know I did better than you, goof-ball," she said with a giggle.
"What did the Professor say about your delivery date?" Jonathan Harris, who had been gone for a week from bereavement, missed the drama between Lillian and their genetics Professor.
Lillian's degree was a MCDB focus-- Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. Genetics Studies was a key to her research, and the Professor had it out for her. "He said if I couldn't be there to for the final, then I'd suffer the consequences of the point-system. So I went to the Dean, he said, though I'll suffer the consequences of the point-system, so long as I excel with my work before the end of April, I would only 'suffer' a C."
"He said the research presentation requirements stated nothing about her
physically being present, just that she presents it," Evan added. "We've already got the whole thing recorded with five digital copies and three DVD hard-copies. I wanted to wait to officially use the new camcorder for the birth of our baby boy, but--"
"You. Are not. Recording," Lillian interrupted him. "My. Vagina. Expanding. To the Size. Of a Cantaloupe!"
Jett Chevalier and Jesse Danes started laughing hysterically. Jett had long, straight, black hair, almost a name-sake. Her eyes were dark brown, and her skin was pasty but held a pink hue, and small freckles ran over her back and arms without a single one over her face. Her features were sharp and commanding. Every time she grinned, her teeth and gums were at full exposure and didn't appeal as much as she would hope, but it didn't keep her from smiling. Jett was slapping her hands in a flurry of chaos over her backpack like a snare drum. "I think if I saw that," she managed, "I'd piss myself and sew my own shut! NO BABIES!"
"I didn't think vaginas would bother you, Jett," Jonathan said laughing. She had wrote a term paper on the functional processes of the vagina, and no one let her down for it.
"Only yours, Jonny," she replied with a wide smirk. She leaned over Jesse, casting a shadow over her. "You keep staring at the sun, your eyes are gonna get freckles."
Jesse was lying on her back, her arms crossed behind her head to rest on. She had splayed her red curls out over the grass like a sunburst to warm them. "Maybe that's what I'm going for," she said. "Now, get outta my sun."
"Whatchya doing?" Jett wasn't going to leave her alone.
"Thinking." It was a dry reply. Only three weeks ago, Jonathan had stopped being her boyfriend of two years. It was a mutual break-- he wanted a casual relationship for the rest of his life, and she wanted more. Everyone was certain it was still bothering her, but oddly enough, it wasn't. At least not today.
"You're always thinking!" Jonathan yelled. "One day, we'll hear a strange popping noise-- it'll have been your brain blowing a fuse!"
"There is nothing wrong with thinking," Lillian came to her defense. She was still irritated at Jonathan for his epic failure at commitment. "It's the sign of a very intelligent person."
"Then I'm ingenious!" Evan declared.
"Thinking about sex does not count."
"Speaking of sex--" Jett grabbed Jonathan by the shoulder. "What was with Garbouski's exam!? I felt dirty with every question I answered!"
Unlike Lillian, the focus for Jett, Evan, and Jonathan was Evolution, Ecological and Developmental Biology. Jesse was apart of the Interdisciplinary Research and picking up her old major in Botanical Research. Though all five of them met as undergraduates and became and remained great friends, the only connections they had as they moved forward with their degrees, were the classes. At least Lillian had Evan to keep her connected to the group, but work and research were distancing them more and more from the other three. Jett and Jesse had known each other since they were children, but Jett left to boarding school before the end of eighth grade. They reunited at the University.
"It's human physio-developmental studies," Jonathan replied. "What did you expect when we've spent the entire semester thus far researching sex."
"No, there were some..." Evan started then grit his teeth, "Implications of inappropriate...um, Lillian, you would have been offended, I think."
"See, this why I like studying what makes things living, and not the living things," she commented.
"Kruegor's test was hardcore," Jonathan pointed out. "I think I failed it."
"She just asked why we wanted to research what we research!" Even Evan was alittle surprised at Jonathan. "I'd think you'd be all over that! It's a simple question--"
"A simple biology question," Jonathan said. "I like biology, I like my research, but I love money-- that's why I study what I study! How do you put that on a mid-term without pissing off your professor?!"
"Good point."
"What'd you write?"
Evan put his arm around Lillian. "I said my wife inspired me into biology. From there I spread my wings and found Freshwater Marine Biology to be interesting, and it's constant change will keep me on track."
"Why d'you get into Cellular Research, Lil'?" Jonathan asked her. "I don't think we ever talked about this with everyone together.""I didn't take the test," she whined. After inquisitive stares, she continued and answered them. "When I was seven, my dog died of cancer, and I tried to sign him up for a study at the hospital. I have to give those nurses credit; it's not easy explaining to a little girl why her dog can't join a pharmaceutical study. As I got older, I spent my off time learning about cancer. After high school, I joined med-school. Flunked. But my adviser suggested the Cellular Biology program here."
"Aww," Jett said. "That's kind of sad."
"Well, what about you Jett?"
She smirked. "I studied genetics because I could never believe I was related to my relatives... Who knew my research would help develop boneless cows..." She twisted her mouth in disgust. The truth behind what really upset her about her research, which she had started in the boarding-secondary school, was a secret she kept and didn't even share with Jesse.
"Tasty, though," Jonathan murmured.
"What about you, Jess?" Evan asked, bouncing a mini-Oreo on Lillian's belly.
"She's in to biology because she's poetic," Jonathan said. "Like her pillow talk." He winked at Evan who rolled his eyes.
"'Poetic'?" Jesse repeated.
"Your reason is pretty fanciful, Pumpkin," Jett commented. "Not dissing it or anything, I'm just saying it's rather heart-felt for a little Irish drunkard."
"Hey! Jesse!" Evan exclaimed with a new idea. "Make more of your family recipe for the party tonight!" Lillian smacked him in the chest playfully, telling him not to be so loud. "But, why do you want to be a biologist-- hell, why'd you double major botany?"
Jesse looked up at the sky, a small, gentle smile pushing her lips. "It's just my view on life...I think everything living in this world-- the universe-- is beautiful..."
