Chapter 8: You're my wonderwall

8. You're my wonderwall…

When Orlando came home, he found his flat empty. No trace of Johnny. Somehow he was relieved that he didn't have to face him immediately. Now he had some time to think about everything before talking to Johnny, which was inevitably. He walked around his flat, lost in his thoughts. He didn't notice that Johnny had just come out of the bathroom and was looking at him. Johnny didn't say anything because he didn't want to frighten Orlando. Beside that, he enjoyed looking at him. When Orlando still didn't notice him after a few minutes, he decided to sneak back into the bathroom and flush the toilet, so that he would hear him. When he came out again, Orlando was looking at him and blushed. They stood still for a while, neither of them knowing what to do, before Johnny broke the silence.

"Hey." He said. "You're back." The moment, the words had left his mouth, he realized how stupid they sounded.

Orlando nodded. "Apparently..."

"I... um..." Johnny began. "I'm sorry for earlier. I don't know what happened there, but I'm truly sorry." He said with his sweetest puppy look. "Can you forgive me?"

How could anyone resist a look like that?! "It's okay... I'm sorry I slapped you." Orlando said lowering his head.

"Well, I kinda deserved it." Johnny smiled. "I shouldn't have kissed you. I know that you've got a girlfriend and that you're straight, I just couldn't resist. I'm really sorry. I'm not going to do that again." Johnny assured. "Unless you want me to, of course."

When Orlando looked up, his face turned dark purple of embarrassment. He looked so sweet that Johnny almost kissed him again, but he reminded himself of what he had just said. At that instant, he wished he hadn't said it.

Orlando was so embarrassed. Johnny hadn't actually said something to embarrass him, but he blushed nevertheless. He wasn't really sure how to feel about what he had just been told. Johnny wouldn't kiss him anymore, so he had time to think about his feelings, but was that really what he wanted? If he decided to really accept his feelings for Johnny, which he wasn't even sure he had, he wouldn't be able to just walk to him and tell him that. He would be too embarrassed. What if Johnny didn't even want him? Okay, he had just said that he couldn't resist, but did that mean that he was in love with him? Or was it like Sean said, that he was just a guy looking for his next one-night-stand? Anyway, now he had enough time to figure out what was going on with his feelings and then... who knew?

Johnny was going slightly mad. He wished he had never promised Orlando to keep his hands off of him. It had been two weeks since their first kiss and nothing - /nothing/ - had happened. Orlando was acting normally, he didn't mention the kiss and didn't give him any sign that he wanted him to do something. He decided that it was about time to take another step. He couldn't bare to look at Orlando and not to be able to show him his love. Well... not love, but... thing.

"So, what have you planned for us tonight?" Johnny asked when Orlando came out of the kitchen and dropped on the couch next to him.

"We could watch a movie." Orlando suggested. "Or go out or go to a movie. It's up to you."

"Hm... let's do something crazy." Johnny said looking at his friend. He knew that Orlando could have some very crazy ideas. When they were in the Caribbean some years ago, he wanted to take Johnny bungeejumping and skydiving and all kind of stuff, but he didn't dare to.

"Bungee?" Orlando asked with a big grin on his face knowing that it would freak Johnny out.

Johnny's face turned white and he wished he hadn't said anything.

Orlando laughed. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I don't know. What do you consider as "something crazy"?"

"I don't know... I was thinking about something harmless like running naked through the streets of London or something." Johnny suggested.

Orlando frowned, then laughed. "Well, go ahead, I'm going to follow you with the camera because the only place I'm going to be naked, is in the shower and in bed."

Interesting. Very interesting. So Orlando was sleeping naked at night. Well if /that/ wasn't worth a peek... He grinned. "Okay, stupid idea. Let's just go to a movie."

"No!" Orlando smiled suddenly having an idea. "Karaoke!"

Johnny opened his eyes wide in shock. "You can't be serious."

"Oh yes I am. I'm gonna call some friends now and tonight we're going to sing." Orlando said excitedly. Johnny couldn't help but smile at Orlando's excitment, so he accepted his fate and agreed to join them. Now he was going to make a fool of himself in front of all his friends. And all of it only because he wanted Orlando.

~ * ~ * ~

That evening, they were sitting around a round table in the new Karaoke-bar in London. They, that was Orlando, Johnny, Sean Bean, Viggo, Elijah, Dom and Billy. Johnny was surprised to see two of the hobbits holding hands. He'd always imagined that they were kind of gay, but he was surprised to actually see that his fantasies were true. Johnny ordered a glass of Malibu-Pineapple. He couldn't sing without some good drinks.

The first one who dared to sing was Elijah. He hopped on stage and performed 'Lemon Tree' by Fool's Garden. He sang quite well and earned himself a kiss from his boyfriend Dom who was the next to sing. He chose something by Nirvana, it was also not bad. Johnny began to become desperate. Was there anyone present who couldn't sing? The next one to go was Billy. He sang 'Don't Speak' by No Doubt and this time, Johnny was truly amazed. Billy had such a great, melodic voice and did a real great job.

Sean Bean refused to sing which gave Johnny a small hope that he also wouldn't need to sing. Orlando got up and walked to the stage. Johnny observed him. He had never heard him sing before, but he loved his voice when he was speaking, so it couldn't be that bad when he sang, could it? Orlando looked pretty nervous. The song began- it was Oasis' 'Wonderwall'. Johnny couldn't take his eyes off of Orlando. He looked so great that evening. Then he began to sing the first lines.

"Today is gonna be the day
That they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you should've somehow
Realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do about you now"

Wow. Orlando was actually a great singer, who'd've thought? And was he only imagining things or was Orlando actually looking at him while singing that? While Orlando continued singing, the smile vanished from Johnny's face because now Orlando was definitely looking at him. The reason why Orlando had seemed so nervous began to dawn on him...

"And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would
Like to say to you
But I don't know how"

Johnny swallowed. Orlando locked eyes with Johnny and his voice was trembling a bit while he sang the next lines.

"Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my wonderwall"

Johnny didn't hear the rest of the song because he couldn't think clearly anymore. And it felt like there were a hundred butterflies in his stomach. He had never felt such a thing before. Orlando had just expressed everything he felt through a song. And Johnny knew exactly what to do as soon as they were at home. When Orlando got off the stage and came back to them, he wasn't able to look Johnny in the eyes. He sat down and avoided to look at Johnny as good as possible.

The next one to sing was Viggo. He had this dark, dirty voice and sang a song, Johnny didn't know and he didn't even listen. He kept staring at Orlando hoping that their eyes would meet but Orlando was only looking at the stage. When Johnny turned his head, Bean was looking at him and grinning. Johnny frowned. What was his problem now? Did he know something? Viggo came back and the three hobbits ran on the stage to sing 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. It sounded awful because they were singing it with such passion and made exagerated theatrical moves causing everybody to laugh. When the song was over, Elijah kept the mic and said something to the DJ.

"Johnny Depp, get your ass here on the stage, I picked a song for you." He said into the microphone and grinned. Oh no. Johnny thought he had escaped that torture. He sighed, got up and walked to Elijah, taking the microphone.

When the music started, he thought he couldn't believe his ears. Barbie Girl?! Oh, he hated Elijah. He gave the young man a hateful look, but decided to show some humour and actually sing the ridiculous song.

"I'm a barbie girl, in a barbie world, life in plastic, it's fantastic! You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere, imagination, life is your creation. Come on Barbie, let's go party." He sang. He was embarrassed but grinned to hide it. His eyes met Orlando who was practically rolling on the floor laughing. His head rather looked like a tomato than like Orlando and Johnny was afraid that would fall from his chair every second. Johnny giggled, then asked the DJ to play an other song. Some seconds later, the intro of Aerosmith's 'I don't want to miss a thing' was playing. Johnny saw that Orlando had calmed down and kept looking at him while he started singing.

"I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Where every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don't want to close my eyes
I don't want to fall asleep
Cause I'd miss you babe
And I don't want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I'd still miss you babe
And I don't want to miss a thing"

They didn't break eyecontact for one second when he was singing. But the strange thing was that he actually meant what he said. He didn't chose that song in order to seduce him, he truly meant what he was singing. After the song, he returned to their table and sat down. He emptied his glass quickly.

Some minutes later, Sean got up pretending he had to be somewhere, so Johnny and Orlando grabbed the opportunity to get a free ride home. They didn't speak to eachother in the car, Sean only said something occasionally because the silence was a little uncomfortable. When they arrived in front of Orlando's building, they thanked him for the ride and then went upstairs, still not talking and barely looking at eachother.

As soon as they entered Orlando's flat, Johnny pushed the Englishman against the wall and kissed him softly. After Orlando had gotten over the first shock, he put his arms around the older man's neck and answered his passionate kiss. Johnny's hands were running over the sides of Orlando's body, sliding under his lover's t-shirt and tenderly caressing the warm, soft, olive skin.

Orlando's heart was pounding in his chest. He had wanted this so badly since the last time Johnny's lips had touched his owns. He had been wondering every night what he would taste like, how it would feel to be /really/ kissed by the older man. And it felt wonderful. Better than he expected. He tightened his embrace and Johnny's kisses became more demanding.

Suddenly, Orlando felt one of Johnny's hand sliding between his legs and pushing against his groin. His eyes flew open in shock and he pushed Johnny away. "What are you doing?" he asked louder than he intended. Then, not knowing what to do, he turned around and ran to his room, locking himself in it, then dropping on the bed where he burst into tears.

Johnny stood there for some seconds scratching his head. What the hell had just happened? He thought, Orlando wanted it too. He had been answering his kisses so passionately that he imagined that Orlando wanted more too. But apparently he was wrong. Sometimes, he really didn't understand Orlando. He knocked on Orlando's bedroom door.

"Orlando? What's wrong, honey?" he asked softly, not exactly knowing what else to say.

"Leave me alone!" came Orlando's voice from the other side of the room. Was he crying? It broke Johnny's heart only thinking about it.

"Please open the door, talk to me. Is it going too fast for you?" Johnny asked helplessly, but Orlando didn't answer. He knocked a several times and called Orlando's name, but he didn't get any answer. He sighed and sat down on the couch, wanting to wait until Orlando came out again, but eventually he fell asleep.
