The second half of Save the Citizen was clearly turned in favor of the Villains. Crystal was standing close to the Death Trap. Lash was occupied with the zaps of electricity Sparks employed so Warren should have had a clear path to her. A wave of wind had halted him very efficiently. First it had thrown him into the safety glass. She was good at evading the blasts of fire as well, keeping him at bay with her own hurricane-force winds.
Actually, he had almost gotten close to her when the wall of wind suddenly became a cyclone easily lifting him up into the air.
"Lash!"
He caught her shout just as he was suddenly flung from the twister. In a second, he crashed into a hard body. Spark's powers delivered him a nasty shock before both of them slammed into the barrier. Lash laughed just as the buzzer sounded.
"The Villains win!"
Picking himself up, he got free of his struggling partner and tossed his hair out of his face. Crystal was beside Lash who seemed busy laughing at the cheers from the crowd. She turned her head and looked at Warren. For a moment, there was the faintest hint of a pleased smile there before her hazel eyes slid to the side and the smirk became noticeable.
Looking as well, Warren saw Sparks was a bit battered and visibly limping. When he looked back, Crystal was no longer smirking but there was something in her eyes that told him enough. So she was still sore at her ex-boyfriend. Glancing Freon's frigid glare aimed at him, he could understand that sentiment. At least his girlfriend had openly broken up. Sparks had let the rumor-mills catch on that he was dating others and not interested in Crystal.
Maybe he was not all that mad about being used to catch the guy between a wall and a hot place then. Warren smirked himself. Crystal blinked, raising one brow, but accepted the shrug he gave her. It made him pause. When had they begun to speak through signals like that anyway? He was caught on that even when he took his place on the bench again.

Halloween night should have been spent at work. Unfortunately, due to the increased activity during Save the Citizen, Warren actually found himself too stiff and sore to manage his usual duties in the kitchen. That and for the first time in its history, the Paper Lantern was closed on Halloween. He had not asked why and was not told. So he had actually planned to stay home and relax.
That was changed when Will Stronghold and his friends turned up at his door in costumes. His mother was of no help, actually conspiring with them to get him dressed up and out of the house. If his room had not been fireproofed, likely the fire department would have been called. Needless to say he took his time to get dressed. Warren actually loved Halloween, for a lot of reasons that he never really stopped to think about.
When he emerged, he was shoved to the door and the gang hauled him off down the street. Actually, he just stayed quiet aside from the expected growl at Ethan or Magenta. It gave him time to try and relax while taking in the noisy groups of kids going around in costume.
Layla was dressed as a fairy or something in green with sparkling wings and glittery makeup. Stronghold had apparently chosen to be a mummy. Magenta shocked everyone by dressing up as a cheerleader of all things. Ethan was a classic wizard and tripped over the robes or his staff every few steps. Zach...he was almost afraid to go there. Something related to Disco that was even more freaky than Magenta's costume.
Compared to the rest of them, Warren supposed he looked pretty normal. He liked black. It really had nothing to do with his father. Ripped black jeans, combat boots, and a bright red T-shirt that drew attention to the red streak in his hair completed the general outfit. His usual black leather jacket was replaced by a long black leather duster. Makeup made his skin white though and he had used some fake blood on the side of his neck as well as his mouth so the fangs were noticeable.
The group was apparently interested in simple Trick-or-Treating so he hung off to the side at every house. He was not out for candy--even if he was given it once in a while--that was for the others. As they continued on, he tuned out their chatter for the most part to look around. In the process, the group actually drew ahead of him as he fell back further and further.
"Warren?"
He knew that voice. Stopping, he turned around to see Crystal on the other side of the street. For a moment when he saw her, he forgot everything else. The costume she wore was something else. Camo-pants in gray, green and black rested snug enough to reveal the lines and curves of her legs and hugged her hips. The boots were heavy, off-black and buckled along her outer calves. A matching belt encircled her waist while the T-shirt was a dark slate gray mottled with hazel.
As always her hair was pulled back into a ponytail though a cap was pulled down over her head. Her hands had black gloves snapped securely about her wrists. The strap of a fake high-powered rifle of some sort rested across her chest, drawing his eyes there...and toward the tempting curves of her breasts. Sure he had seen a few glimpses of how her body was developing in the past months, but for some reason the costume drew it all out.
She turned however and broke his sudden preoccupation. That was when he noticed that Gavin was with her amidst a pack of kids likely still in elementary school. He too was dressed in camouflaged clothes though his was closer to the uniform of a marine on desert operations. He nodded to whatever Crystal told him and herded the kids on down their side of the street.
"Didn't think you came out of the house that much."
Warren blinked, "What?"
Crystal shrugged as she joined him on the corner. She was wearing her glasses again, or so his mind absently noted to him.
"Well, this is the first time I've actually seen you out on Halloween."
He shrugged and turned away. She moved to follow which was not surprising at all. Warren had really gotten used to her invading his quiet areas. Unlike the rest at least she seemed to understand why he chose those spots and respected it as well.
"I've gone out on Halloween before."
"Obviously not to Trick-or-Treat. I take it the S.S.S. came by to drag you along with them."
"S.S.S?" he asked dumbly.
"Stronghold's Sidekick Section. Sorry, kind of an inside joke. Military minds."
Actually, Warren smirked. That was kind of amusing and all too true. "Yeah. They insisted."
"I'm guessing either you didn't put up much of a fight or they really are more forceful than I thought. Great choice."
"Didn't really fight hard. Needed to get out." He reached up to finger one of the fake fangs. "Feels more comfortable than the rest of the stuff people wear. Vampires are overdone but they're still cool, unlike those fantasy-creatures in fairy tales."
Crystal nodded and grinned before shifting the strap keeping her costume-gun against her back. He could not help but look again where it pressed between--before he mentally kicked himself. Again that moment in the arena came back to him and he frowned.
"Just wanted to say 'hi'. I better get back to the brats before Gavin cracks. It's the last time we get escort duty so can't really just abandon him."
Looking up, he just studied her then glanced across the street. "Looks like he's having a little trouble." He wanted to ask her why she was escorting kids around, but it would not come out. Maybe it was better.
"Damn. Okay, off to the rescue. See you tomorrow."
Before Crystal turned away however, she leaned closer and actually slid one arm around Warren's waist to pull him into a half-hug. The curve of her hip was pressed against his and he could feel the warmth of her body against his arm...as well as the firm curve of one breast. Stunned, he blinked only to realize she was already jogging across the street to help her friend.
"Yeah...tomorrow..."
He moved after the group who was just coming down the walk from another house when he realized his stomach actually...fluttered a little. That and he felt a bit...well, warm for no reason. It was cold enough outside and the coat was not that warm. Swallowing, he shook his head and just went to join the S.S.S. None of them noticed the sudden smirk on his lips as they argued over the candy.
