Obi-Wan didn’t want to return to the Temple when the time came. Padme promised to come to Coruscant in the next three months. He hoped she would be able to; Obi-Wan promised to help plan the wedding in Coruscant with her when she arrived. Fortunately for Obi-Wan, he was kept busy by Master Yoda, who constantly sent him on mission after mission. Finally Yoda summoned him to the Council room. He was alone and Obi-Wan was surprised, “A padawan, you still refuse to take.” Obi-Wan smirked. Of course Yoda was still mad about that. “I am too young for a Padawan, master. It is too much responsibility.” “Mature enough, you are. Stubbornness, the cause is.” “Master Yoda, I respect you a great deal. I just don’t wish to have a padawan.” “All Jedi should have a padawan at some point.” “I’m not dead yet, master.” “Once married, harder to convince you it will be.” “I don’t ever intend to have a padawan. I just…I feel like I can do more on my own.” “You, Jerex and Aayla. Great annoyances, you all are. Disruptive to the Jedi Order, you are becoming.” “Because we don’t want padawans?” Obi-Wan raised his eyebrows. “Really?” Yoda shook his head, “Guilt you, I cannot. Rise, young Kenobi. Leave, you may.” “Thank you Master,” Obi-Wan said with an amused smirk. He passed Nomi in the hall, “How is your training going?” “I’m off to the Agricorps, Master. I was not chosen.” Obi-Wan stopped walking and stared, dumbfounded, “Are you serious?” Nomi nodded, “I leave in two hours.” Obi-Wan frowned, “How could you not be chosen? You’re resourceful, clever, intelligent and patient. Everything it takes to become a truly great Jedi Master.” She blushed, “Thank you, Master Kenobi. Nevertheless, I was not chosen. Congratulations on your engagement. I’m sure you two will be very happy,” she smiled and walked away. He moved back into the Council, “Why didn’t you tell me that Nomi was being sent to the Agricorps?” “Never will you take a padawan, you said. Thought it settled, the issue was.” “I-She-She shouldn’t be sent to the Agricorps. It would be a mistake.” “No master, has she. What happens, this is.” Obi-Wan cursed under his breath, “I’ll take her on as my padawan. She is too talented to be lost to the Agricorps.” “What she wants, is this?” “I’ll go find her,” Obi-Wan sprinted from the Counil’s room. He found her just as she was headed to the ferry. “Nomi! Wait up!” “Yes, Master Kenobi?” “Would you be interested in being my padawan?” Her eyes bulged out, “Really?” “Yes,” he answered, breathing heavily. The Lethan Twi’lek could only nod, trying not to show her enthusiasm. “If you’re not that interested…” “Are you kidding? I would LOVE to be your apprentice!” Nomi exclaimed, hugging him. “I hope you’ll give me a break, I never expected to take an apprentice,” Obi-Wan apologized. “I’m sure you’ll do fine, Master,” Nomi said. “Don’t padawans live with their masters?” “Yes, they do. Come, I’ll show you my room. You’ll have your own bedroom. Do you cook?” “Not really.” “That works out for you, because I do. Are you clean?” “Yes.” “Good. So am I,” he smiled, escorting her back into the Temple and down to the Knights’ quarters. He opened up his apartment door and let her in first. She smiled. It was exactly how she would have pictured Obi-Wan’s apartment. Neat and orderly and very impersonal. Except for the bookshelf, which had a single shelf full of picture frames; one was a picture of him, Jerex and Aayla when they were all younglings. Next to it was him and Qui-Gon. Then there was a picture of him and Padme which was clearly recent. She grinned, “Really nice, Master.” “I like to have pictures of those important to me. That one with Padme was taken when I was there for her birthday.” “Was it what you hoped it would be?” “More so,” he answered, “but then I guess you found that out.” “I heard Master Zatoq talking to Master Secura. I was quite happy for you, of course. You were like a mentor to me, Master Kenobi. That mission was so exciting for me.” “Your room is the first door on the left down the hall. Mine is at the far end of the hall.” “Thank you,” she smiled and took her stuff in. Obi-Wan went to the kitchen to start dinner. That night he called Padme from his bedroom using the holo-phone, “Hello my love,” he smiled. “Obi-Wan! I have good news; tomorrow I’m headed to Coruscant. You only get me for a few days, but it’s been so long…I’ll take what I can get at this point.” “Me too, my queen.” “Please, I’m tired of being queen. This past month has been so hectic. They want me to run again and I’m not so sure that I want to. I just…I enjoyed being queen before. But not anymore. My attentions are wandering elsewhere.” “Padme, I thought we agreed we wouldn’t change our lives to make this work.” “That’s not why I’m doing this. I’m doing this because I just need a break from politics. Besides, I’m only supposed to serve one six year term. I’ve already done that. I’m not changing the rules and running again.” “So what will you do, stay here?” “I’d like to, if that would be okay with you. I mean, if you don’t want me to…” “You know I want you to stay here with me. But our lives…” “I could be a senator, spend my time on Coruscant. I appointed our current senator. He’ll be retiring in a few years, then I could take over. He only did it as a favor to Naboo after Chancellor Palpatine became Chancellor. I want to be with you for a bit, maybe we can start a family before I go be a senator.” “If you’re sure that this is what you want,” Obi-Wan sat down on the bed, “I support your decision.” “Thank you,” she said. “So about our wedding?” “Master Yoda insists upon seeing you again before discussing anything with me.” “Then I will see him tomorrow,” she smiled. “Now excuse me, I need to go aboard the ship. We’ll be getting to Coruscant early in the morning.” “So I could wake up to your face?” “That’s certainly an option,” she smiled, “will they let me in?” “I’ll leave a message with the desk,” he smirked, “they’ll show you up. My room is at the far end of the hall.” “I know that baby,” she teased, “I have seen it before.” “I have a padawan now, I just don’t want you popping into bed with her.” “You took a padawan? I thought you didn’t want one.” “Nomi was going to be sent to the Agricorps otherwise. I couldn’t let that happen; she is too talented.” “She was very sweet when I met her,” she said, “Obi-Wan, I love you and talking to you but I need to leave now. Goodbye, my love.” “Certainly, my queen. I will see you hopefully when I wake up,” he grinned. “I hope so too.” Padme got her wish. Just before sunrise Captain Panaka drove her to the Temple and Master Yoda himself led her to her fiancée’s room. “Thank you, Master Yoda.” “Welcome, you are.” The old master drove away on his hovercart. She opened up the door and placed her bag on the floor before shutting and locking the door. Then she walked down the hall to Obi-Wan’s room. Once inside she shut the door and then undressed, lying down in his bed. Obi-Wan moved and she took a deep breath. He turned and pulled her into his arms. She smiled and shifted, laying her head on his chest. She closed her eyes and felt sleep claim her. Obi-Wan woke with a grin at around 9 am. Padme in his arms never ceased to be a good feeling. He moved onto his back and pulled her with him. He loved her body against his. Padme mumbled and snuggled into him. Obi-Wan kissed her forehead and closed his eyes once more. At noon he woke again and caressed her cheek. “Padme?” “Mmm?” She mumbled, finally waking. “Good morning/afternoon, my sweet.” “What time is it?” “Noon,” he answered. “Why didn’t you wake me sooner?” “Because I was enjoying our time together,” he smiled. “I love you,” she leaned up and kissed him hungrily, “and I need you, my love. It’s been so long without you,” she blushed. “Believe me, Padme, I’m feeling it too,” his hands moved over her body, “should we eat first?” “After; I intend to make you very hungry,” she rolled on top of him and ran her hands down his chest. “Sounds excellent to me,” he pushed his boxers down, exposing his erection, “now come on, I’ve missed you.” “I’ve missed you more than words can say.” “Then show me,” he breathed, guiding himself into her. Padme moaned and fell against him. Damn she loved this man. The feelings that he caused within her made her heart just melt as she moved against him. Eventually they made their way to the shower and then they went to the kitchen. Obi-Wan was forced out as Padme started to cook. He talked to her about getting married and living together and whatnot. They ate together, Padme enjoying his company. “Master Yoda led me up,” she finally told him. “Of course, the sneaky little troll. He also managed to somehow trick me into getting a padawan.” “Speaking of which, where is Nomi?” “Meditating,” he answered. “And then she’s going to spar for a bit before returning. She told me about her schedule yesterday.” “You’ll be on more missions now, won’t you?” “Now that I have a padawan, yes; but we will make it work, Padme. I know that we can; and on the plus side, I’ll be given safer missions as I begin training her.” “Well that’s nice,” she smiled as they washed the dishes, “Obi-Wan, when do you want to get married?” “Soon,” he answered, drying his hands off and wrapping his arms around her, “I want you to be Mrs. Kenobi,” he kissed her neck as she finished placing dishes in the drying rack, “as soon as possible.” She laughed, “I’m okay with that,” she turned in his embrace and kissed him, “but first we have to see Master Yoda.” “Very well,” he sighed. He invited Master Yoda over for dinner, so that they could talk to him about the wedding. Finally they managed to set a date. After the new queen was selected and on the throne of Naboo, Padme would return to Coruscant and they would be married at the Temple in the Room of a Thousand Fountains. Obi-Wan wished it could be sooner. Saying goodbye was becoming increasingly difficult for the two of them. Padme relaxed into his embrace, “I wish I didn’t have to leave,” she sighed. “Me too,” he whispered, trying to savor the few moments they had until she left the next morning. “Soon we won’t have to say goodbye,” she smiled at the thought. “Except when I’m sent on missions.” “But Obi-Wan, missions don’t separate us for months on end. When I leave tomorrow, we won’t see each other again for almost six months. That’s too long to go without you.” “I agree,” he leaned down and kissed her, “I love you.” “I love you too,” she turned in his embrace and let her hands wander over his bare chest. “Maybe one of us can break away for a weekend here and there?” “Now that would be heaven, wouldn’t it,” he groaned in pleasure as her hands moved lower, “maybe I should hide you from Panaka,” he leaned down to kiss her. “The minute you can return, I’ll be on Naboo to pick you up.” “Less talk, more loving,” she mumbled.
