Chapter 7 - Lies
Jack awoke sharply to the sound of a blood curdling scream and leapt out of bed when he found Oria was no longer with him. Fearing the worst he ran out on deck after shoving his boots on hastily. He stared at the amount of blood on the deck, “What the bloody hell have you done?” Oria glanced back at him, and wiped her dagger off on a scrap of cloth continuing to look nonplussed.
“He was working for Norrington, feeding him information. I ended communications… Stupid old fool.” Jack paused to stare at her suspiciously.
“Who exactly did you kill?” Oria glanced over her shoulder at him with a faint smirk.
“The ship builder.” Jack stared at her dumbly before gesticulating wildly.
“Couldn’t you have just bribed him or something! I’ve already paid him to finish off the ship! It wasn’t exactly cheap you know!” Oria glanced back at Jack with a roll of her eyes.
“I tried bribing him, he wouldn’t listen. Said he had only one master, Norrington and that he would never divert from that path into aiding pirates. He left himself no choice, he sealed his own fate.” Jack stared at Oria for a few seconds dumbly before sighing and nodding, the girl was no good at diplomacy.
“Next time let me handle it. Occasionally there are things that don’t need to resort to violence and even more that don’t need to resort to death.” Oria shrugged and tucked the dagger back into her belt; she glanced at the back of the ship where the cannons had raked the Pearl. It was nearly but not quite complete, the shipbuilder had started early, if she had let him and his crew get away with it they would have been finished by noon. Everything was still on track, the plan would continue without a flaw as long as she could keep control of herself and Davy Jones would be appeased slightly with their souls.
“Besides, what’s a few more days in Tortuga?” She whispered back to Jack grinning as she turned around to face him wrapping her arms about his shoulders. He slowly smiled back and rested his hands on her waist feeling the heat off her body under his palms like a forge fire. With great reluctance he pushed her away and went back into the cabin, she watched him go silently her fingertips still playing with the tip of the dagger.
“Best go and search for a new ship builder to get me Pearl done up.” Jack shouted back. Oria nodded and followed him back into the cool shade, “Which reminds me…” He smirked back at her and pointed towards a rather large package and a fancier box, “Had the kindest thought in my existence to replace your wonderfully torn jacket with… well…” Oria scowled at the box already suspecting what was within it.
“Jack that box had better contain swords or pistols.” Jack grinned; abandoning his jacket and belt he strode over to the desk and lifted the lid off the box. Oria laughed sarcastically at its contents, “You have to be joking.”
Jack grinned maliciously and stalked towards her, “I seem to remember a little bout we had a few months ago on the deck of the Interceptor. Which I believe I won and subsequently won the right to command you into wearing a gown for a full day of my choosing. This is that very day and that is that very dress which you shall be wearing this very day.” Jack proclaimed highly pleased with himself, Oria glared at him with a half-amused smirk.
“Jack I’ll look like a poodle. I don’t do dresses, gowns or any other word you’re going to come up with for it. I just don’t.” Jack pouted and lifted the dress out of the box.
“Well I personally think it’s rather pretty, however, if you’d rather go without I won’t complain.” He grinned suggestively, “Either way, you’re only leaving this room in this dress or… nothing. I won’t complain either way.” Oria gritted her teeth and sighed in frustration.
“You just love torturing me don’t you?” He smirked and laid the dress out as she began to unbuckle her britches.
“Thought that was your job… to torture? Although… I think now it would be far more advantageous to keep you without clothing and in this very cabin.” Oria smirked as he stepped behind her his hands travelling under her shirt to tickle over her stomach as he nipped at her throat. She stepped away already feeling out of control but he snapped her back to him harshly. Oria glanced at him over her shoulder warily.
“What are you doing? I thought we were going to hunt for another ship builder? That’s going to be slightly hard if we’re joined at the hip.” Jack’s hands ran over her own on the belt and lower. They tugged her britches loose with a smirk as the laces gave easily.
“I’ve had a better and much more overall enticing idea.” He whispered against the bare skin of her throat. His hands crept lower and Oria grasped his wrists tightly stopping him from going any further. He paused curiously and waited for her explanation.
“There’s someone at the door.” Jack glanced backwards and sure enough a lad with eyes the size of serving plates was stood there, his mouth catching the largest flies imaginable with the size of its gape. Oria smirked and Jacks hands quickly retreated and he stepped away quickly to glare at the lad.
“What do you want?” The lad was still staring dumbly between them, “Speak quickly boy.” The lad pointed towards Oria.
“I’ve got a message for her only. I was instructed that no one else must be present.” He whispered staring in awe between the two pirates. Oria glanced at Jack curiously, slowly he nodded.
“I’ll be stood outside then.” He left the room looking slightly dejected as the boy strode in with a curious look about the cabin. Oria folded her arms and glared at the lad with harsh eyes.
“Well?” His gaze snapped back to her and he pulled a piece of parchment from a pocket and held it out. Oria took it from him and glanced at the seal, her heart paused for a second at the mark in the wax. It matched the tattoo on her arm, she snapped it open, only three words filled the parchment in a swirling watery script.
“We have her.” Oria let her eyes slip closed with a groan and she handed the parchment back.
“He asked me if you had a message in return.” Oria snapped her eyes back open and glared, the boy took a fearful step backwards at the intensity and hatred that rested there.
“Yes, tell him if she’s harmed there will be no end to my wrath.” The boy nodded and backed up, turning sharply as he ran out of the room. Jack frowned as he watched the boy run at full tilt off the ship and back into Tortuga, he was tempted to follow but decided he’d best get the news from Oria first.
She smiled as he entered, the dress already half threaded up. He stepped behind her and finished the job off waiting silently for her to tell. When she didn’t give any sign of relaying the information he turned her to face him. She didn’t meet his gaze as his grip tightened on her arms, “What was the message?” Slowly she lifted her eyes to his.
“It was from Norrington. He knows about Sara, he has her under guard at Will’s house. If we don’t want her identity revealing… he wants a ransom.” Jack paled slightly.
“Of how much?” Oria hadn’t thought that one through and paused pretending that it was truly awful, “Oria how much?”
“Five hundred pieces of silver.” Jack’s face went through a myriad of emotions before settling on a calmer one.
“We’re going to have to get to the Isle de Muerta, there’ll be enough there to cover it and some.” Oria nodded silently, Jack took it as worry and held her to him closely, “She’ll be alright, and she’s a brave girl, Will’ll make sure nothing untoward happens to her till we get that money.” Oria wrapped her arms about him back tightly, she hated lies and she hated Jack for trusting her.
