Disclaimer: I do not own Constantine, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Four reviews for the
last chapter, so I'm jumping in joy. Thanks for their wonderful
reviews go to Loki, Wolflady, Morningstar and Patty.
Patty: Originally I
hadn't planned on having John help Lu in ruling, but since you
suggested it I have thought about the idea for a while and come up
with a scene that I will write in a later chapter. So thanks for the
suggestion.
Warning: contains
murder (just one sentence)
Chapter 8 – Old friends, new games
“How the hell am I supposed to
do that? The kid was a fucking saint even before he became an angel.”
“Be creative. I'm sure you can
come up with something.” With these words Lucifer was gone,
leaving a scowling exorcist behind.
Now Lu had finally gone
completely insane, John concluded. He had told the exorcist, that he
wanted to see Chas fall from grace and that it would be John's job to
achieve that. The problem wasn't, that he
was unwilling to do it. No. Although he had quite liked the kid, John
was still pissed off at his new angelic, holier than everybody else
attitude and the kid had always annoyed him anyway. The real problem
was, that he had no idea how to tempt Chas.
Even when still human,
the kid hadn't drunk, smoked, done drugs or something. Hell, he
hadn't even shown an interest in women or men around him. The only
thing he had been constantly interested in had been his books and
exorcisms.
Mulling over the
problem currently on his hands, John got up and walked towards the
exit. His ass was throbbing in pain from the raw fucking he had
received earlier. Next time, he definitely would demand some lube.
Rubbing his sore ass brought the perfect solution to his problem to
his mind.
The only person Chas
had ever been interested in had been himself. True that it was mostly
hero worship, but that was a basis he could
work with. John had faith in his charms, but Chas was most likely too
innocent for a good seduction. Well, one could only hope.
The plan formed in his
mind, John left the throne room.

John had tried
Midnite's at first, but Chas hadn't been there. Taking a quick guess,
John headed over to the church, hoping to find the angel half-breed
there. He hesitated in front of the church as a strange feeling
spread through his body. Almost as if the building tried to tell him
to stay away. Smirking at the door, John
stubbed out his cigarette and entered.
As usual a young man
approached him, asking if he wanted to put his jacket away and as
usual John declined.
“I'm looking for Chas Kramer.
Is he here?”
“He's in the library, sir. Do
you want me to lead the way?”
“No, I know where it is.”
Heading in the direction of the library, John lit himself a cigarette
as he passed the first 'no smoking' sign. When Gabriel was still the
resident angel, she had always thrown a fit, if he had shown up
smoking. He was wondering what Chas reaction would be.

Totally engrossed in
his book Chas jumped in surprise, when John suddenly talked to him.
“John. What are you doing here?”
“I just thought I would visit
you again.” The exorcist smirked, moving a little closer to
Chas. The small seductive smile he sent his former apprentice was
ignored as Chas turned back to his book.
“I don't have time for you,
John. Why don't you go back to hell, if it is so nice there.”
John could hear a faint sliver of regret under Chas' venomous tones,
so he decided to talk to the angel a little longer. He needed to earn
back the compassion Chas had once possessed
for him.
“Like it was my original plan
to go to hell.”
Silently cheering in
triumph, he knelt down next to Chas who had abandoned
his book and was now curiously studying his face. “What do you
mean with that, John.”
“I only wanted to save
Angela's sister and working for Lu was the only way he was willing to
let her go.”
“You gave up your own
salvation for her?”
The admiration for him,
that Chas' eyes had always held during his whole apprenticeship was
beginning to return. Maybe it wouldn't be as hard as he thought to
get Chas to give in to him. Before he could continue to win back the
angel's trust, the priest entered.
“Chas, I need your help.”
“Of course, father. Sorry,
John. Bye.”
Damn it. The old fool
had ruined it. A little more talking and Chas would have trusted him
again. What had astonished him most, was that Chas hadn't even
commented on his smoking, although the angel had always nagged him
about it, when he was still human.
Shrugging
in indifference, John left the church unsure what he could do next.

It was already getting
dark as he aimlessly walked down the streets. He wasn't in the mood
to go back to Lucifer just now, since his ass was still too sore.
When he walked by a small magazine shop, a photo caught his
attention.
The picture showed his
brother shaking the hand of another man, both of them dressed in
perfect corporate attire. Scanning the page, John quickly found the
article that belonged to the photo.
Big business deal
almost complete!
Matthew
Constantine, chief executive of Holly Industries is about to make it
big. He has almost completed a major transaction with the Luce
Corporation, that will make his company one of the richest in LA. The
success of this operation will also
catapult Mr. Constantine upwards on the corporate ladder, whereas the
unlikely event of a failed business deal would seriously damage his
reputation in the business world. As far as we are informed...
John stopped reading then. Somehow Luce Corporation rang
a bell in his head, but he wasn't able to place it at the moment.
Then it hit him. This was the company Balthazar worked for. It seemed
like it was time to pay another visit to the annoying half-breed
shit.
Since Midnite's was the place he was most likely to find
Balthazar, John headed in that direction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John had almost reached Midnite's, when two presences in
a dark alley caught his senses. A customer was beating up a whore, an
occurrence that normally wouldn't catch his interest, but something
about the whore seemed familiar to him.
Standing at the entry to the alley, hidden by the
shadows, John scanned the whore's memories. And then he found them.
Memories of himself, of his father screaming at them in his room, of
the boy's own father throwing him out of the house, of the boy
becoming a whore because he had nowhere else to go.
Anger immediately gripped John. This wasn't just any
whore. This was Steve, the only person who had ever liked him while
he was a teen. The boy whom he had once loved and slept with until
his father found them out. John also hated his father even more than
he had before, since obviously he had not only fucked John own life
up, but also Steve's by telling his father about their relationship.
When he saw the large, beefy man looming over Steve draw
a knife, John decided to intervene. He couldn't let the one person,
who hadn't thought him mad in his youth be killed by a worthless,
horny bastard.
“I wouldn't do that if I were
you, asshole.”
Both Steve's and the other man's eyes focused on him. He
saw a glimmer of realization shine in
Steve's eyes as a whispered 'John?' reached his ears. In his
unbelievable arrogance and stupidy the
large man just laughed at him, unable to see the demonic fury boiling
under his surface. He had no idea, what he was up against.
“Keep out of it, punk, or you
get the same treatment as this filthy, worthless whore.”
“Is that so?” An
arrogant smirk spread over his features,
John advanced on the other man. Since he had no visible weapons the
other assumed that it would be easy to overpower him. He could read
the other's mind like an open book, all his sins laid before him.
This one truly belonged in hell.
The beefy man swung his knife at John's face, but with
his demonic strength and speed John twisted his arm behind his back,
before the attacker knew what had hit him. Screaming in pain, he
tried to get out of John's grip as his bones snapped. He could hear
Steven whimpering in fear and pain.
John would have liked to make him suffer a little
longer, but he was intend on taking care of his old friend. Besides
he could still play with that bastard, when he was back in hell.
Putting his hand on the other's head he used all his demonic strength
to twist, breaking his neck with a sickening crunch.
A disgusted look on his face,
John turned his attention back to Steve.
