Chapter 5 – Old Times Remembered
Oria cleared the steps and stood watching silently as he stalked towards her, the moonlight finally filtering through the mists to light him up. The hammer-head, the shark teeth, and the scaly skin.
“Maccus, long time no see until now unfortunately.” Davy Jones’ first in command chuckled maliciously and began to circle her, “I suppose you did me the favour of clearing the ship of any other living creature?” He nodded silently and continued circling.
“He’s not happy Oria… You’re not doing your job.” Oria followed him with her eyes and folded her arms over her waist protectively.
“I’ve not had the chance to implement my plans yet.” Maccus grabbed her by the throat and slammed her against the wall of the ship. She didn’t fight against his grip and watched him quietly.
“You’re not even trying. You’ve gone soft… he knows Oria, he knows the little secret your trying to hide. He knows more than you think about all of your little plans. Tell me Oria, who exactly are you working for?” Oria glared at him.
“I work for Davy Jones, unfalteringly as was agreed. So why don’t you just run back to him and tell him that I’m on it but I’m going at my pace.” Maccus chuckled again.
“He’s not convinced. That’s why he sent me… to ensure your unfaltering loyalty.” His hand tightened on her throat and slowly released, “You’ve got a month to prove your still on our side. You’re lucky you’re his favourite.” Oria watched as he stalked towards the side of the abandoned ship.
“And if he’s not convinced?” Maccus chuckled cruelly and looked over his shoulder at her baring the sharp carnivorous teeth.
“He’ll come back, claim you and make you very, very sorry for your betrayal. One month Oria, then he’s coming.”
:/
Oria stood on the end of the pier at Tortuga; it had taken her a full three days to get to the port. She watched as the sun sank beneath the crystal ocean framing the Pearl in a blood red glow, none of her crew aware Oria was back. She drew her dagger and slashed her palm letting a few drops fall into the ocean before kneeling down as bubbles came up. Maccus smirked up at her.
“Not up to the challenge?” Oria tugged a parchment free of her pocket; the plan had taken her several hours to concoct and a few more to perfect. Finally though it was ready, she handed it to Maccus. He took it with a grin and laughed cruelly.
“Always knew you’d come through. It will be ready for you when you arrive. Make sure you succeed this time.” Oria nodded curtly and stood back up, “Oh and Oria.” She turned back to glare at him, “Davy Jones has a new destination for Jack’s soul.” Oria knelt down again hurriedly but Maccus was already gone, she cursed.
:/
“All right, all right! Who’s buying me this round? I’ll exchange it for another most rousing tale.” A few coins dropped down in front of Jack he grinned down at them and scooped them up quickly before someone stole them. He turned the grin up to his benefactor and his grin widened as the group went silent, “Hello love.” Oria raised an eyebrow at the whore trying to get Jack’s attention; the woman began scowling rather angrily at Oria for intruding.
Jack completely ignored the whore and grasped Oria’s wrist dragging her down onto his lap with a broad grin. His arms wrapped tightly about her when she tried to slide into the seat next to him, the whore rubbed her ample shoulder against his, “I wouldn’t be so wriggly my love, at least not unless that’s what you want?” She batted her eyelashes at him but Jack was completely ignoring her. The woman humphed annoyed at the lack of interest and strode away to find another man.
“They didn’t do anything to you did they?” Jack whispered in her ear with a sly grin.
“An absolutely fantastic orgy on the deck, under the moon. Some paganistic festival.” Jack glared at her pointedly, she bit back a laugh and draped an arm about his shoulder, “No they didn’t do anything, just the usual lock her in a cell and leave her there ritual. Might as well be paganistic… besides, personally, I think the whole orgy thing sounded a lot more interesting than the truth. Don’t you?” Jack glared at her and tightened his grip possessively.
“I don’t think of it as being at all amusing.” Oria decided to wind him up a bit more.
“There was a very nice looking lad on board actually, he had the most fantastic…” His glare silenced her quickly and she frowned, “Were you taking me seriously?” He looked away in annoyance, “Jack?” She shuffled around in his grasp till she was in a position to face him, “You don’t actually think?”
“It doesn’t matter. Just something… someone said.” Oria nodded slowly and filed away this little piece of information for later use. The grin quickly returned to his face as he was presented with yet another bottle of rum.
“Ah! Another story I hear my friends call, very well. This is a tale of…”
