Author's Note: Sorry I haven't updated in a while guys. I've been busy and trying to figure out exactly how I wanted this chapter to proceed. Thanks for reading!! Chapter Four: Two months later- Leia woke up early one morning, nearly two months after her conversation with the Emperor. She and Luke had spent the past two months learning about the Empire's customs, rules and traditions. Leia had also been reviewing the Imperial officers who frequently interacted with Vader. While not overly excited about getting married, Leia wanted to approach this new challenge in her life with enthusiasm. She was very determined to strive to accomplish some of the Alliance's goals in the position she would hold. While she was excited to start on her new objectives, she was dreading the action that would bring her into this new position. “I'm getting married today,” Leia dejectedly thought, as she stared at the opposite wall from where she was laying in bed. Leia had thought that she would one day marry Luke. While they didn't come from the same social class, and there would have been many who would have looked down on her for marrying him, Leia loved him with all her heart. She had wanted to marry him, knowing that she would be incredibly happy with him. It didn't matter to her if he was a royal or not. He was the one man she had ever met who wasn't interested in her status, her money or her body. Luke loved her for who she was. And after today, they would be separated forever. Sure, they may be able to see each other at work, and elsewhere. But they would never be allowed to have a romantic relationship with each other again. Leia got up and got ready for the day. During the course of the day, she tried to pick her mood up, but nothing worked. The time seemed to go by all to quickly, and there wasn't enough time in Luke's arms to ever satisfy her. Late in the day, she and Luke left the Rebel base, and traveled to the Death Star. Once they landed, she and Luke were escorted up several levels, down a couple of halls and to a room at the end of a hallway. The door slid open, and Luke and Leia walked in. “Welcome, Your Highness,” the Emperor said from where he sat. “Your Majesty,” Leia respectfully returned. Palpatine gestured for the two to come sit down. As they did, the Emperor said “I do wish that you had agreed to a state wedding. It would have been beautiful.” “I'm sure it would have,” Leia said. “However, I really don't think that the people need that kind of expense. A royal wedding is quite a lot of money.” “Why not have them pay it?” Palpatine asked. “They are already getting a raise in taxes!” Leia gave a smile at the Emperor, but inside she was wanting to escape. Luke felt this, and reached under the table to take her hand. After a couple of moments, the door slid open once again. Palpatine stood up, and Luke and Leia followed suit. “Ah,” Palpatine stated. “Well, now that we're all here, lets get started.” As the holy man stood in front of the wall, Leia went to his right side. Luke stood back behind her, and to the left. Vader stood in front of Leia, with Palpatine and an officer behind him and to his right. As the holy man started speaking, Leia sadly listened. She refused to look at Vader, who she hadn't had any contact with since that day two months ago when she and Luke had come to the Death Star. Leia was brought out of her reverie by the holy man asking her a question. “I do,” she softly said. Leia put the ring on Vader's left hand and looked at the priest. The holy man turned to Vader and asked him the same questions. “I do,” Vader said. Leia was surprised by how smooth and deep his voice sounded. Vader took her left hand and slipped a ring on her finger. As the priest said they could kiss, Vader brought her hand to his lips and softly kissed it. Then he gently let her hand go. “You are now husband and wife,” the priest said. At those words, Leia almost burst into tears. But she refused to cry in front of the Imperials. She would wait until she was alone before she cried. Moving, she turned to look at Luke. They both looked at each other before Leia moved into his embrace. Luke lovingly held her in his arms, and whispered “It will be alright, love. We'll still see each other. And you can call me whenever you want.” “I know,” Leia whispered. “But its not the same.” “It will be one day,” Luke said. Placing his hands on either side of her face, he continued, “One day, I will marry you. I promise.” “Alright, Skywalker,” Palpatine interrupted. “Its time for you to leave.” Luke looked over at Palpatine and nodded. “I love you,” he whispered, looking at Leia. “I love you too,” she said. Luke placed a lingering kiss on her forehead, and left. Leia silently stood in one place for a minute after Luke left. Palpatine was talking to the officer who had come with Vader. Vader had watched Luke and Leia as they had talked. Seeing that Leia was upset, he walked over to her. “Maybe it would be better if we left,” he softly said. Leia looked up in surprise at Vader. Seeing the concern in his eyes, Leia nodded. Vader offered her his arm, which she took. Vader turned and said, “Thank you for your time, Admiral.” “Not at all, my lord,” Piett returned and bowed respectfully. Vader led Leia out of the room. They made their way to his apartment, which was near the top of the battle station. Vader typed in the code, and the door slid open. Leia stepped inside, and looked around. The room was very spartan, and definitely looked like a man was the only occupant. Leia liked it almost immediately. It was very clean, smelled nice, and had space. More so than she had in the apartment she had had on the Rebel base. “I like it,” Leia said. Vader just nodded. “Come with me,” he said. Leia followed Vader into the depths of the apartment. Vader showed her which rooms were what. There was a kitchen with eating space, several common rooms, a 'fresher and three bedrooms. Leading her to one door, Vader opened it. Stepping inside, Leia saw a huge bed, a dresser, and a closet door. And all of her personal belongings. “Your things arrived this morning,” Vader said. “There are several drawers in the dresser that are yours. Half of the closet is yours also. That side of the bed is yours,” he said, gesturing to the right side. “You are free to do whatever you would like here, however, the only thing I request is that you please not go in my office unless I am there, and that you respect my privacy. I have no interest in your personal life, nor do I want to intrude upon your privacy. If there is anything you require, please let me know. I want you to be happy here. Do you have any questions?” he asked. “No,” Leia replied, shaking her head. “Alright,” Vader quietly said. Leia watched as he left the room. As she unpacked her things, Leia wondered about her new husband. She realized that she really didn't know anything about him. She didn't even know his age. After she had finished unpacking, Leia left the room. Following the smell of something good, she found herself in the kitchen, where Vader was. Vader gazed at her as she came in the room. “Do you have enough space for everything?” he asked. “Yes,” Leia answered, looking at him. “What is that smell?” “Its dinner. Would you like some?” he asked. “Yes, please.” Leia watched as Vader pulled out a bowl, and poured the concoction into it. Placing it on the bar, he placed a napkin and spoon beside the bowl. Gesturing for her to sit down, he asked “What would you like to drink?” “Just water,” Leia said. As Vader placed the glass in front of her, Leia tried the soup. “Wow,” she said, after she had swallowed. “Did you make this?” “Yes.” Vader said, looking at her. “I think you missed your calling. You should have been a chef.” Leia said, with a small smile. “Thank you,” Vader calmly said. “However, I don't think I could have made a career out of dealing with food.” Leia nodded, and the two fell silent while she finished. “Aren't you eating?” Leia asked. “No,” Vader said. Leia looked at him, wondering why he wouldn't. After dinner, Leia wandered around the apartment. Finding the library, she selected a novel, sat down and started reading. Once she had read awhile, Leia went back to the kitchen. Getting a glass of water, she spied the timepiece. With a shock, she realized that she had been reading for four hours. Going back to the bedroom, she walked into the 'fresher that was through a door on the left side of the room. Deciding a hot bath would be nice, she drew the water and climbed in. Leia lounged in the water for awhile, getting out only when it started to get cold. Drying off, she went into the bedroom, and found her nightclothes. After dressing and combing her hair, she walked out of the bedroom. Leia watched the HoloNews, which announced new laws that had been passed, skirmishes, protests, and the like. Turning the news off, Leia picked up the book she had been reading. Taking it with her to the bedroom, she sat on her side of the bed reading until Vader came in. Leia watched out of the corner of her eye as he went into the 'fresher. Two minutes later, he came back out. “Do you know how late it is?” he politely asked. “No, I don't.” Leia said. “Its after midnight.” Vader said. “Oh.” Leia sighed. Closing her book and placing it on the night stand beside her, she looked at Vader and asked, “Do you always stay up this late?” “Yes,” he answered. “Sometimes later. I have a lot to do.” Leia stood and pulled the covers on her side back. Getting in, she sat with her back against the headboard. Vader looked at her for a moment. “Is something wrong?” Leia asked. Vader silently shook his head, and started to undress. Leia had become increasingly nervous as the evening wore on, and now she was almost in a panic. She became confused, however, when Vader left his pants on and got in on the other side. Trying not to look at the well defined muscles on his arms and chest, Leia said, “What are you doing?” Vader gazed at her for a moment, and said, “Is there something you were expecting?” “Well, yes. Its our wedding night.” Leia looked at him, silently wondering if he had forgotten about that. “I know,” he softly said. “But you aren't ready. And until you are, I won't have any physical relation with you.” “And when will I be ready?” Leia asked, crossing her arms. Looking at her, Vader said, “You'll know. For now though, I think we need to get to know each other better before we engage in something that intimate.” Vader turned so that his bare back was to her. Leia stared at him disbelievingly for a moment, then laid down. Turning out the light beside her, Leia wondered if he was insane. However, she didn't want to test his infamous temper so soon, so she left the matter alone. Vader turned the lamp beside him out, and the room fell into darkness. Leia listened to Vader's even breathing until she fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of Luke. Vader stared into the darkness for the rest of the night, replaying memories in his head, as tears streamed silently down his face.
