Chapter 4 – Old Acquaintances

Coils of mist were swirling through the holes in the ship and whispering through the air towards Oria. She dragged her jacket closer about her with a shiver and tucked her legs up to her chest. This was definitely a lot cooler than those nights with Jack. She smirked at the memory of last night; it seemed like days ago now. She rubbed her arms slightly trying to heat up her chilled blood.

Silence fell over the ship slowly till there was only the gentle snoring of the less than vigilant night crew. Oria dragged the key out of her pocket and eased herself up smoothly to unlock the cell door. The lock creaked and groaned as it was forced to open by the insistence of the key. Oria winced as the hinges squealed loudly at being disturbed in the dead of night.

With the cell finally open Oria crept towards where the sailors had deposited her belt of weaponry, buckling it back about her hips swiftly she scanned the area for anything useful. The ship rocked gently and leaned towards port for a few seconds, the wood groaning empathically. With a frown she headed for the stairs and froze at the glint of golden jewellery and a long sharpened cutlass.

“Well, well, what have we here?” A patch eyed pirate crept down the steps with a malicious leer as Oria slowly backed away her eyes wary. The pirate looked her up and down, “A pirate eh love? Or perhaps just the property of one?” He sneered condescendingly at her, “Care to show me his mark, might know him, only make the victory more sweet.” Slowly Oria’s bodyline softened and she stalked up to him slowly with a faint smile.

“Sure.” She purred and began to lift her shirt watching as the man’s eyes followed with a gleeful widening. Her other hand latched on to her dagger and she slit his throat swiftly rolling her eyes and shaking the droplets of blood from her fingertips in annoyance as he slumped to the floor. Kneeling she wiped her dagger clean on his jacket and rooted through his pockets for anything of value or use. Old habits died hard. Little was on the pirate’s person except for a rather well crafted compass and elaborately decorated dagger.

Oria quickly stashed her finds on her person and waited silently listening for any sound that the pirates were leaving. After nearly two hours she dared herself to creep up top and slowly glanced out over the deck. The deck was completely clear except for one figure stood at the end of the ship outside the Captain’s cabin, his sharpened teeth glinting maliciously as he unfolded his arms and stalked forwards.

”Hello Oria.” Oria nodded, she should have known better than to think she could have gone the full thirteen years without at least one visit from the bastard.

:/

Jack glanced out over Tortuga; the place looked a mess in the daylight. The buildings nothing more than shacks in most parts of the town, most of them looked as if they would come down with the next hurricane. At night though, oh at night, it all changed there was glimmering lights, attractive company, although this generally improved after several bottles of rum and the wonderful presence of his admirers. Jack grinned, he had missed the town dearly, perhaps it would be better to build a house and port here instead of Port Royal.

Certainly many more friendly faces than in Port Royal, but that was a given considering the town had been built for pirates. He felt eyes burning into his back and glanced backwards, Anna-Maria was glaring at him. Jack frowned and turned to face her, “Is there a problem?”

“I know what you’re thinking and it’s not right.” Jack scowled and checked just how far from the port they were. He decided there was enough time to debate whatever issue Anna-Maria had about his supposed thoughts.

“And what exactly am I thinking pray tell?” Anna-Maria stalked forwards.

“You’re thinking of all those whores you can bed while Oria isn’t here.” Jack smirked, god bless his piratey appearance.

“Very clever love, well done. Now if you don’t mind removing yourself from me thoughts, I’ll get on with getting this ship into port.” Jack turned back to guiding his ship. Anna-Maria glared at him.

“She could do better than you with her looks. I suggest you be very careful Jack Sparrow, or she’ll be following your example and going to greener pastures so to speak.” Jack opened his mouth in surprise and forgot to retort in any manner that would have been deemed sophisticated.

“What exactly are you insinuating?” He stuttered the question as if it tasted foul. Anna-Maria turned to look at him again, a sympathetic look to her eye.

“How much younger is she than you? Five years? Ten, hell the way she looks she could be fifteen years younger than you! You really think she’s going to stay loyal to you if you wander? You think she’s going to stay loyal anyway?” Jack glared at her.

“Age… age has nothing to do with our… relationship so to speak.” Anna-Maria raised an eyebrow disbelievingly.

“Of course it doesn’t Captain.” She turned and jogged down to help pull in the sails. Gibbs leaned over Jacks’ shoulder.

“She has a point you know.” Jack glared at him and humphed with as much dignity as he could muster.
