Hey everyone! Thanks for the reviews! Sorry it's taken me a while to update. And once again, sorry it's taken me so long to get to the good bits! There will be much smut, and even more fun teasing soon. I'm building up to it. Promise.
Chapter .5.
His head was
throbbing. When he found he couldn’t move his arms, Norrington slowly opened
his eyes. After taking some time to adjust to the dim light, the saw that he
was in one of the smaller cabins. He was in a cabin aboard The Interceptor,
tied to a chair.
Ah, yes. The
pirate.
Kohl-lined eyes
glinted in the fading light, and began to circle around him. Norrington didn’t
bother trying to follow them; he felt sick enough as it was.
“Couldn’t let you
loose; I’m sure you understand. Too tenacious for your own good mate…like one
of those yappy little dogs, you just wanna kick.”
Sparrow was standing
somewhere behind him. His voice was as annoyingly calm and amused as always;
but there was an underlying tension, a sense of exhaustion, that leeked out
through his words.
“Where are they?”
Norrington moistened
his lips, trying to decide how to answer. In the end, all he could think of was
the truth. “I don’t know.” There was no
point either in feigning ignorance as to the ‘they’ he was referring to. “We
spotted them two days ago, then lost them. They keep changing course.” Was
it today? How long had be been unconscious?
“Makes sense, if they
were after me. The compass is never wrong, mate.” The pirate once again began
to circle. “After me crew, are ya? Curious, seeing’s that you already got what
you wanted. Or perhaps tryin’ ya hand again at the fair Miss Swan, Commodore?
She’s a handful, that one.”
He couldn’t help but
smile, even though it caused his cracked, dry lips to split. He licked them,
and tasted blood. His smile widened.
“I’m sure you mean
Mrs. William Turner.”
Commodore Norrington
was pleased to see the pirate pause in his movements. A good few seconds passed
by, the only sound to be heard was the creaking of the ship around them. Those
seconds were enough to confirm his suspicions.
“Married, eh? When did
that happen?”
“Just before setting
sail to find you, Captain.”
Sparrow closed his
eyes, and seemed to try and gather himself together. Norrington was rather
beginning to enjoy himself, despite his predicament. Yes, despite the cool feel
of a blade suddenly resting on his collarbone, he felt like laughing. He held
back though – the look in Sparrow’s eyes hinted that he was perhaps a lot more
than one card short of a full deck.
“Listen mate, I’m not
sure yet whether I’m almost alive, or slightly dead. I don’t know how long it’s
been since I saw my Pearl go under from the ‘horrible insides of a giant
beastie that was trying to digest me at the time. But listen to me, closely
now,” Norrington felt the tip of the blade pierce his skin. “I am tired, and
very, very sober. How long have they been lookin’ for me?”
Norrington would’ve
smirked, if gentlemen were capable of smirking. Gentleman do not smirk, they
smile smugly. And god, did he feel smug.
“Mr. and Mrs. Turner
were married three days ago.” Norrington punctuated every word, answering the
real question the pirate was asking.
Sparrow stepped back,
bringing the sword from his neck. They stared at each other; one bound captive,
quite pleased with the progression of things. The other, the armed captor,
obviously shaken despite the odd curling of his mouth.
“Well well…” The
pirate breathed out, taking another step backwards. Then he was gone, and
Norrington was alone with his thoughts.
So it was true.
He’d suspected, but
not been sure. He’s realized Elizabeth’s feelings – even if she hadn’t herself
– but he hadn’t been sure of Sparrow’s. The pirate didn’t just want her; he wanted
her. Norrington had a feeling that he would not have to wait long for the
‘opportune moment’. He could destroy both Jack Sparrow and William Turner in
one move, if it was skillfully done.
And he would make of
it.
*************************************************************
“I think it’s The
Interceptor! What the devil…?”
Gibbs had the scope to
his eye, as Elizabeth squinted at the horizon.
“The Interceptor?
Are you sure?”
The Interceptor meant Commodore Norrington. Any navy ship was
bad enough, but Norrington had made it abundantly clear that he was no ally of
theirs – even during the short stint that he had been a pirate aboard The
Pearl, he had betrayed them.
He can’t stop us
now, not when we’re so close to finding Jack! Elizabeth thought, half praying.
Although ‘close’ to
finding Jack was off the mark, somewhat. They had no idea where he was – they
only had the compass to guide them, which now had them heading in almost the
opposite direction of what it had started off with…
I want to find Jack. The compass keeps changing direction.
Jack is moving, he must be. He’s alive, and we’re going to find him.
“No, it can’t be…”
Gibbs mumbled to himself.
“What?” Elizabeth
asked, trying to take the scope for a closer look at the fast-growing form
heading straight towards them.
“Why would they…”
Gibbs trailed off. Elizabeth wanted to kick him.
“Why what?!” She
growled, and finally got a hold of the scope.
“She’s flying the
white flag.” Gibbs said quietly, just as she spotted it herself. “Why the hell
would they be raisin’ that, to pirates?”
“Maybe they don’t know
we’re pirates. This is a merchant ship, after all.”
“A stolen merchant
ship, and I bet they know that too.” Gibbs grumbled. “I expected ‘em to come
after us, but why the show of peace? Navy men ‘ave codes, proper conduct in
warfare an’ all that. Didn’t think they believed in hiding their intentions,
but I could be very wrong.”
From what she had
learned from her time with Commodore Norrington, Elizabeth didn’t think Gibbs
was wrong. To attack a ship under the guise of peace was an unforgivable breach
of honour. She had thought it a stupid concept at the time. War was war.
It could never be civilized, as much as they tried. But if it was the
Commodore…
“We can’t take the
chance of finding out what they want. They’re a fair distance away, we
could turn around –“
Gibbs interrupted. “Aye
Miss – sorry, Mrs – but that there navy ship’s still faster than the Lady
Luck. They’re be on us within’ the hour, whether we run or no.”
Damn that man, she thought. Hadn’t he done enough? She had
mourned him, thinking that he died saving them, only to find out that he had
been serving his own selfish desires.
Much like Jack.
At least it was
expected of Jack. Jack had never pretended to be honourable, as Norrington had.
“What can we do?”
Will was suddenly
beside her, taking the scope from her grasp.
“Not much I’m afraid,”
Gibbs sighed. “Best just to see what they want.”
Will put his arm
around her waist. Elizabeth knew it was meant to be a comforting gesture, but
in actual fact it…almost made her skin crawl.
That wasn’t a good
sign. Not a good sign at all.
They had been married
for several days now. She didn’t feel married; unless this constant
claustrophobia and panic was normal for a new bride. It wasn’t normal was it?
Oh god, what if this was what marriage was…? You fell in love, got married,
then suddenly….
What? Fall out of
love?
When had she stopped
being in love with Will? When had she stopped wanting his hands on her, his
lips on hers? What had changed, to make being with Will seem wrong? He was her
husband; a handsome, strong, brave man, that loved her more than anything. What
more could she want?
“Jack…”
Elizabeth jerked her
head, surprised to see Gibbs with the scope once more.
“Wh-what?” She
breathed out, confused. Will gripped her tighter, and she had the sudden urge
to shove him away from her.
“Jack… it’s the
Captain…” Gibbs babbled.
Elizabeth snatched the
scope away from Gibbs again, holding it to her eye. Her hands shook. She had
The Interceptor in her sights, but the rocking of the ship made it hard for her
to see any detail apart from the while flag and a flurry of red coats.
Elizabeth pushed the
scope at Will and drew out Jack’s compass. She stared at it a moment before
opening it. It was all too strange, too fast. It couldn't be…
