With George and Kihr’yende deeply embroiled in the continuing negotiations, Darian found himself at a loose end and with the blessing of the Elder, he asked permission to explore the Federation ship and get to know some of its crew.
Kehlan was uneasy about the request but Da'rian was the most even tempered and stable of the three Predators and he had sworn on his honour to respect her crew. Honour, she had learned, was more valuable than even life to the Yautja. Kehlan could be certain that Da’rian would not go back on his word. He had even offered to remove his weapons and after some consideration she had accepted that offer. Conscious of what had happened to O’Henry during her absence, she sighed, hoping she was doing the right thing. Even divested of his blades and energy weapons, Da’rian was still dangerous. There was no such thing as an unarmed Predator, they WERE weapons. It did not help that while she believed that Da’rian could be trusted, Kehlan could not in honesty say the same of her own crew. The trouble in Ten Forward and the treacherous attack in the cargo bay had left the half Klingon captain deeply shaken. She trusted her seniors of course. She had served with them all for far too long to even entertain the possibility that one might be a traitor. She did not however have the same faith in the lower ranks. It was not by any means the first time she had lost crew. Starfleet was not and never had been, a risk free job. Sometimes people died in the line of duty; as a Klingon, Kehlan knew and accepted that, but they were not supposed to be killed by treachery from within.Repressing her anger, Kehlan frowned in concentration as she considered what best to do. The suspect was in custody but that did not mean there were no others involved. She needed to ensure that the guests on board her ship were safe. After some thought she decided to grant permission for Da’rian to have free access to the public areas of the ship and provided him with a guide. Contacting Lt Griffiths, she also discreetly arranged for increased security in the areas the Predator was most likely to visit.*********Da'rian's guide had led the big Predator on a private tour of Endeavour. This tour was a lot less formal and more relaxed than the previous one. Inevitably they reached the holodecks. The Predator had been unimpressed on his previous visit and he told his escort so."Well you just saw one programme," the security officer said cheerfully, "Some are better than others, it depends on the skill of the designer. They are quite a useful tool for staff training as well as relaxing. I like participating in ancient, historic battles, myself.""For recreation?"The man nodded enthusiastically. "My favourite is the Battle of Thermopylae. It’s one of the most epic battles in Terran history.”Da’rian cocked his head enquiringly and the officer elaborated. “Three hundred Spartans held the pass against the entire Persian Army. It’s not the real thing obviously, but it’s still fun." He craned his neck to look up at the tall Predator, "Oh, I never introduced myself. I'm Lieutenant Adam Kellie. And you're..." He hesitated for a moment, "...Darren, I believe?""Da'rian" the Yautja warrior corrected carefully. "However 'Darren' is acceptable if you have difficulty with the pronunciation"."Darrien" the Lieutenant repeated, saying the alien name as best he could. It still wasn't quite right but it was as close as he could come."The panel is lit, Ad-ham... what option is currently available?"Kellie studied the controls, "It’s running a spa programme at the moment.""Spar? Another battle simulation?"Kellie shook his head, "No, Spa, not spar, although I suppose they do sound the same." He stopped for a moment, trying to decide how best to explain, "Imagine a pool full of very hot bubbling water - or sometimes even a mineral rich mud - designed to sit in and relax."“Ah.” Da’rian nodded in understanding. The concept was a familiar one. It was common practice for the Yautja to indulge in such luxuries when returning from a hunt. The hot water soothed aching muscles and helped to remove any parasites that might have been picked up while planetside. "It sounds a very comfortable environment.""It is," Kellie said cheerfully. He studied the information on the panel. "This one is set on Romulus, in the Fire-fall caves. They are really famous." He grinned, "I keep hoping we'll get sent on a diplomatic mission there one day so I'll get to see them for real.""I would like to experience the simulation," Da'rian decided. He stepped forward and pressed the panel in the way he had earlier seen Kehlan do and the doors slid open with a faint hiss. Already the welcoming heat and humidity was tangible. He stepped inside.Belatedly, Kellie noticed the red privacy light on the panel. It was rare for the doors to be locked; health and safety did not generally allow it. The system depended on an observance of social etiquette, obedience of the unspoken rules that everyone knew; that red meant the occupier did not desire company, keep out. Rules, Kellie realised belatedly, that the Predator had no knowledge of. "Hey... Darren... you can't…" He was too late. The holodeck doors were already sliding shut behind the tall Predator. The doors shut and vanished. The Yautja found himself standing in a dark cavern, the only light coming from the glowing magma embedded in the cracks and crevasses of the rough stone walls. He glanced around curiously, taking in his surroundings and unconsciously scanning for any possible threat. This programme was very different to the previous one. A bubbling spring welled from the wall and ran across the floor into a series of deep, bubbling pools, steaming all the way. Flat rocks, about the size of a humanoid, were scattered here and there to lie upon. Giving a low growl of appreciation, he moved further into the cave. He liked the look of this."Who's there!" A flash of white moved in the gloomy depths of the cavern."I am Da'rian," the Predator responded, looking curiously towards the newcomer. Mineral highlights from the lava flow glittered in the female's unbound hair; soaking wet, it clung to her scalp before cascading past her shoulders, the wetness emphasising its vivid red colour and attracting the Predator’s attention. "You are one of the Yautja delegation," she observed. He inclined his head, "I am," he acknowledged, "and you... I remember you. You were the one who brought back Kay-lan." "My name is N'Sal. Kehlan is my friend."Da'rian inclined his head in understanding. "I am told this is a spa," he said, "I would like to try it."Not quite sure how she felt about this intrusion, N’Sal hesitated. With the meeting over, and the procurement of the evidence they so desperately needed, she’d taken some time out from the investigation and had come here for a little solitude, for some peace and quiet in which to think things over. Krang’s ploy with the mind sifter – and she could only hope it was merely a ploy – had badly upset her. "The programme is meant to be a private session,” she told the Predator. “And traditionally speaking... you're a bit underdressed."A look of confusion crossed his face. Underdressed? What did she mean? He was fully clothed in the traditional armour of a Yautja warrior. Then her earlier words penetrated and his confusion turned to horror. He had interrupted a female in her private bathing! While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
