Two double doors opened on silent hinges to reveal a giant room. Shirah evaluated it carefully, six sets of double doors graced the outer wall with three more smaller doors interspaced. The room itself looked like a sitting room with a few giant couches spaced around. These couches were large enough for the hounds, whether they had been acquired for the beasts or it was coincidence she did not know. A few tables were scattered around but it was clear that this room was meant as a sitting room. Riddick pushed open the middle right door for the hounds and six of them wondered in exploring the room. The alpha male stood by his side and the female hung back while two of the females had already claimed a couch each. Riddick glanced down at the alpha and nodded his head, the brilliant eyes turned to the female standing next to Shirah and as one they both walked into the room. Riddick left the doors open and walked to one of the middle set of doors pushing them open. Shirah followed him in and he closed the doors behind her.
Riddick leaned against the door watching as she evaluated the room. It was dimmer in this room then all the others and as he watched her he pulled his goggles off but with her back to him she didn’t get to see this. The room was smaller then the last but not by much. Along the left wall was displayed daggers and small swords all used for close combat. Shirah stepped closer looking at each, Riddick’s eyes followed her movements closely. Pausing she surveyed the rest of the room. A large bed a large chest at the foot of it and two dressers with a giant mirror between them, in the reflection he saw her and she saw him. His goggles gone and in the reflection his eyes were different. She turned swiftly and as she did he was right behind her. As her eyes flashed to his a small gasp escaped her lips, the rumors she had heard were true. They had a shine to them dull and bright all at the same time, slowly his hand traveled up her arm over her clothes and rested on her neck. It was easy to feel the strength that rested in those hands. Gentle was not a word used to describe Riddick but in this moment his hand was. Slowly she swallowed watching his eyes and her mind tried to grasp onto something to distract herself from the way he looked at her.
“Your not worried about the hounds?” Slowly his eyebrow lifted and a small smirk came across his face but he didn’t move away.
“The Alpha will take care of them.” Pulling his hand back slowly his fingers caressed her chin and then the back of them drifted over her cheek. “Tell me your story, Shirah.” As her name passed his lips it was a purr and she shivered visibly. It was hard to focus on her thoughts and it was a long moment before she spoke. While he waited his other hand rested on her hip a deep breath past her lips and she could finally speak.
“My people… Our people have been searching for the last remaining males of our kind…” Shirah closed her eyes briefly trying again to collect her thoughts.
“Yes, Shirah,” He drawled closing his eyes slowly and opening them just as slowly. “I am painfully aware of this fact.” His hand left her face and motioned to everything around him. “Part of it is the reason I am here in this position.” Settling his other hand on her hip he pushed her back into the wall in-between some of his weapon decor. “What I really want to know is why your searching for me?” Curiosity was easily seen in his eyes but it was mixed with something else, something else she couldn't recognize. Another deep breath passed her lips as one of his hands lifted and fisted on the wall next to her face. Each move was slow and calculated.
“I received a vision of you on that ship so vivid and so powerful.” Of its own accord one of her hands lifted and rested on his cheek. A shiver flowed through him but he did not let it show. “I remember the smell of a ship, metal, steel and the warmth. I told you that it would hurt. From that moment on I have been searching for you drawn to you. Unable to escape the feeling that I had to find you.” Another breath left her body and she gathered her thoughts once again his proximity making it hard for her to focus for very long. “When I was young and we left our home on the outskirts of a cruel system but it was the only safe place from them. Even thou it was not that safe. I grew up with my mother and her husband but he was not my father. My father was murdered trying to protect my brother.” There was a pause and a tear rolled down her cheek for the loss. “She remarried to keep me safe. He was nice to me but things were complicated for us. Come to find out that our woman could only get pregnant by our own men but the men could… have children with anyone. So I was a reminder of what he could never truly have.” Shirah could feel her knees weakening and was thankful for the wall for support. “It wasn’t long before I ended up leaving and not looking back.” Shirah felt that it would be better if she never mentioned the abuse. Thankfully he only beat her and it was nothing more then that, but Riddick caught the look in her eyes at the memory. It was a familiar look and he had seen it in many a woman’s face.
“He beat you.” It was a statement of fact and she fidgeted under his gaze but nodded softly. When he said nothing further she continued but didn’t meet his eyes.
“I joined a flyer team, they searched for materials on planets. It wasn’t a hard job but I had my own place. And it was on one of these planets that I had that vision of our home Furyan, I’m still not sure if it was the past or the future I saw but there was death and somewhere in the distance there was life. That’s when I saw you, when I told you ‘I think you know who tore Furya apart. This mark is the anger of an entire race, but its going to hurt.’” She had never remember the words until that moment. “I was in a state when I came to screaming for you, for a man I didn’t know. They took me to the medic and when they said that the vision I had was not a drug induced hallucination I knew I had to search for you.” She sighed glancing up at him through her eyelashes. “It took me a two weeks to save the money to leave and once I did, I had no idea where to go.” Shirah shook her head and a tear rolled down her cheek. “I tried to get to you sooner, I knew it was the Necro’s you were fighting but no one would go near them.” Riddick had watched her carefully and as he watched her it was clear to him under the dirt and grim that she was in fact the woman who had given him the mark. Even though her hair wasn’t pulled back and dirt on her face. It was her. Carefully his hand moved to remove the tear still crawling a path down her face and she looked up at him. Finally he spoke.
“So your Furyan aren’t you.” It wasn’t a question but she nodded anyway causing his hand to remove more of the dirt. As they looked in each other’s eyes she was beginning to get that feeling again so she spoke softly. Riddick could never forget the vision he saw the feeling of all the anger flowing into him even now some of that anger remained in him. It was not something he dwelled on, but it was her.
“You have to name them.”
“What?” Riddick shifted and leaned away from her stepping back not sure what she was talking about. Taking a few hesitant steps she walked around him and toward the far end of the bed before she spoke. Thankful to put some space between them.
“The Hounds. Otherwise it will be hard to keep track of them.” Riddick shook his head he did not enjoy naming things.
“Fine. You can name them.” He looked at her expectantly and she laughed. It was so lyrical and she looked so beautiful that he couldn’t help himself he started to cross the room toward her. A growl echoed from the outside room quickly followed by other growls and shuffling. Riddick shifted toward the doors before he paused. “The naming will have to wait. Bathroom and towels to shower.” Pointing to a door on the right he left the room closing the door with a click.
“Thank you.” Even with the door closed he still heard her. Shirah looked around the room again and mulled over the three other doors in the room but walked to the one she believed was the bathroom to shower.
Riddick stepped back out into the main room slipping his goggles on in the process to see one of the high lords standing in the room surrounded by snarling hounds. This lord had no fear standing by the door and waiting patiently. Riddick raised an eyebrow and leaned against the wall. Everyone knew not to pay this new Lord a visit without notice, although it seemed this specific ‘man’ did not understand basic commands. Most of the faith did not fear dying but Riddick had made it clear that there were many ways that he could torture someone without killing them.
“I see that you have a new guard contingent.” The man spoke calmly absentmindedly moving his hands as he spoke.
“Pleasantries were never your strong suite.” Riddick stepped over a hound and sniffed the air. “So speak quickly.” The man looked at him quizzically and the alpha male growled louder causing the others to be silent.
“The woman that you have brought into your rooms has caused quite a commotion among the women.” Riddick shook his head and swiftly walked towards the man.
“I understand the pre laws that have been put into place. But trust me I do not intend to lay with any of the whores you have sent to me.” The man stepped back as if smacked. “YES I know of your plans and schemes now. Give me ONE good reason why I shouldn’t let the pack have you for dinner?”
“Lord Marshall you have misunderstood my intentions!” The man took another step back as Riddick was now standing before him.
“I know you wanted a woman planted at my side so you could whisper to her and eventually get rid of me. I am not stupid.” The man was now white and shaking. “You do not fear death, you do not fear dying but what if I take what means most to you and let you live.” The man shook his head. Riddick opened the door and dragged the man with him as the alpha male followed.
“Guards.” A few of the guards that watched the area came over. Riddick was unfamiliar with them but most of the newer guards were posted here anyway.
“Yes sir.”
“Please escort the high lord back to his rooms post the guards there, search his rooms. Anything of importance return to me. Then find the names of all the woman that he has dealt with, take them to the conference room. Find Lord Vaako and request that he rouse my six guards to me.” The guards exchanged glances and a couple took the High Lord and walked off but two guards remained.
“My lord,” after the two guards bowed the one continued to speak, “I do not mean any disrespect but the high lord has married and joined many people if you create animosity it might bring about unusual occurrences.” Riddick stared at the man until he took a step back only than did he speak
“Noted. You should be there too.” The two guards looked at each other a peculiar look
“My lord, are you concerned that he might have become traitorous?” Riddick closed his eyes behind his goggles.
“I am concerned that his only desire is to raise the heir that I ‘might’ have.” The two guards looked at each other and started to walk away. “Oh and gentlemen,” the two paused and turned to him. “Show me something special and I will see to it that you rise with the other guards.” Riddick turned back to his room annoyance began to spread throughout his body. When he entered he was surprised to see the door to the inner room opened and two of the females missing. Moving silently was a skill he used often it was second nature to him and as he slipped in the room and around to the open door. What he saw he never would have expected in all his years, Shirah was sitting on the floor her body wrapped in a robe, but that wasn't the odd part. One female hound was lounging behind that Shirah leaned on and the second was draped over her lap as she scratched behind its ear. Riddick refused to move afraid to break the spell. It was obvious that she had showered but he was far enough away that her smell had yet to drift to him. The words she whispered to them reached his ears.
“So what do you think? Are the names suitable?” The one that laid across her legs leaned back and glanced up at her question and purumped at her. “I guess I will take that as a yes.” The one behind her leaned forward, gently nudged her hand and she giggled as she scratched her ear too. That was the moment her scent finally drifted to him, clean and soft, that is if you could smell soft. Under all that was a sweet smell that enticed and called to him. Refusing to move a small groan echoed from his lips louder then he had intended and it brought her attention to him.
“Riddick?” Her voice was louder, it was the first time that she had said his name since they were on the planet. “Sorry I didn’t know how long you would be and I wanted to think of names for them.” She stared at him for a long moment when he didn’t speak. “Are you okay?” Shirah continued to watch him, something was different about him now.
“Yes,” He knelt next to her while the alpha male curled up next to the small female and looked over to see the pup fast asleep curled between the females paws. “What do you have so far?”
“I have Venus for the small female, Venom for the alpha male and for this beauty here.” The largest female looked at the alpha male and growled softly. “Vixen.” Shirah looked down at the list. “I was thinking of Viper for the pup but I am still thinking on it. I have a lot of names maybe you can help me match them." Because she was looking down at the paper she missed the look that came across Riddick’s face as another wave of her scent washed over him. She didn’t hear him stand or sit on the couch so when she looked up to see his head leaned back on the couch she almost jumped up. “Riddick?” When he didn’t respond she rose stepping over the hounds she sat down next to him.
Riddick was overwhelmed by the smell pouring off her body, what had started as a little sweet smell had quickly grew into a pungent aroma that he could not ignore. The realization dawned on him that before it was covered by dirt but now she was clean it swept over his senses like some kind of drug. He slumped down on the couch and he heard her say his name but he couldn’t make his mouth work. Her smell got stronger and he shifted.
“Riddick?” She said his name again resting her hand on his forehead, but she couldn’t tell if his eyes were opened or closed for the goggles that he wore. Once her hand touched his skin his hand shot up and it encircled her wrist. “Riddick.” Concern flooded her face.
“Shirah,” his words seemed rough and thick, “You need to go put something on.” His last words were so thick they were almost a growl and it took her a few moments to understand.
“Why?” Riddick stifled another growl slipped forward and took a deep breath but it didn’t matter more of her smell surrounded him he couldn’t escape it. If being around her was going to cause him to loose control he needed to keep his distance. But she was there almost naked in one of his robes.
“I…” He took a deep breath and ripped off his goggles so she could see his eyes. “If you don’t I won’t be able to control what happens next.” She stared at him a moment the need as clear as day in his eyes.
“I don’t understand.” Riddick let a growl slip over his lips and she looked up at him.
“Sorry.” Riddick stood quickly his back to her.
“For what?” In a split second he had turned and grabbed her laying her down on the couch and rose above her his dark glinting eyes stared into hers and he descended on her lips. The kiss not only surprised her but it surprised him as well because it was soft and it lingered for more then a few moments. When he pulled away he also stepped away from the couch and looked at her laying on it. He took a moment to appreciate her from. The robe had slipped open revealing her long legs that laid half on and off the couch. Although it did hide her nether region from his eyes it opened again just above her breasts. Beautiful auburn hair sprayed out just behind her head damp and free. Lastly his eyes traveled over her face and something in her brown eyes could just draw him in.
“Riddick.” Unintentionally her voice was soft and urgent. “What was…”
“Its your smell… its like…” He trailed off, there was nothing he could compare it to nothing had drawn him in and unleashed him like this. Not even when he desired blood was the pull this strong, he was exceedingly patient it was the reason he was very good at what he did.
“Riddick…” Shirah stood and took a step back. “I’m sorry I forgot.” One eyebrow arched dangerously high at her words. “When the Furyan females get around an active male, well we begin to give out a pheromone and,” Shirah blushed and looked down, “If both parties have the beginning attraction the pheromone sends the males senses into hyper drive so they can’t resist.” Shirah took another step back but she needn’t worry Riddick wasn’t going to move.
“Shirah you need to choose.” She looked up suddenly. “I am going to need you here I don’t want to let you go but if you choose to stay with me…” Riddick slammed his fist into the wall and stepped back. Shirah had never heard of a Furyan man resisting the pheromone’s which is why she had forgot about it. “If you lay with me you will never die.” Riddick turned around and walked towards the shower.
“I will NOT make that decision for you.” Shirah had never heard of a man able to walk away from the pheromone, the part she did not tell them is that the pheromone only worked on real lovers. So no matter what her decision was clear.
“Riddick, stop.” When he stopped she knew that she had some kind of power over him. He waited but she did not speak although he heard her walk closer he braced himself. The smell got stronger but he stayed still he did not move for fear of losing what little control he did have left. “The decision for me is already made, not because of you but because you reacted to the pheromone.” He held his breath but refused to move. “You can choose to sleep with another woman, even have another woman have your children. Even fall in love with someone else. But,” Shirah looked down and turned towards the door. “I can have no other man now.” Shirah sighed and wrapped her arms around herself. “There have been very few cases of destined love. Life with me would be different.” For Riddick the words ran together he heard something very different, ‘You can choose to sleep… even have…. Your children. Fall in love… with me.’ Riddick shook his head he knew there were pieces he had missed but the pheromone overran his senses.
“Shirah…” She looked at him and could see how much he was struggling, watched the muscles in his back tensing, when she took a step forward he held up his hand. “If you stay, what will happen…” Riddick finally moved and in an instant he was behind her running his hands over her arms. When he reached her shoulders he moved her hair and rested his lips against her neck. “Two things the lights will go out and you won’t leave my arms or this room for a few hours.” He felt her shiver and felt the goose bumps along her arms, he leaned closer to her ear and shook his head softly. “I have better control then most men something I learned deep inside a prison.” Twirling Shirah around he looked into her eyes and she stared into the dark pools.
“You were in prison?”
“Shirah I am a murderer, an escaped convict, and now they can’t catch me because I am lord marshall.” Shirah stepped back.
“Why are you telling me this?” There was no fear in her words but he could see something in her eyes.
“Because you need to know that if you stay with me that’s who I was when I chose to fight. When the elemental gave her life to me she give me immortality,” he looked down, “When I realized the hell I would go through alone I almost said no.” He shook his head.
“Then why did you say yes.” Riddick’s head snapped up at her words and a growl left his lips.
“I didn’t she said that my next lover would join me in eternity. To watch over Furyan.” Shirah shook her head.
“Its not possible.” Riddick laughed and for a moment he was free from his senses he walked to the desk and picked up a knife.
“Trust me it is, I spent the first three days trying to die.” He looked at the alpha male that sat by the females and motioned to them all. The male stood and led the other females from the room. The pup in the jaws of the last one.“I don’t need them smelling the blood.” He pulled the knife forward, “After this I might not be able to hold back so if you don’t….” Riddick took a deep breath his eyes unreadable. “If you don’t want to be here with me then head for the hounds. They will protect you, even from me.” He rested the knife on his forearm when there was a loud knock at the door. The knife clattered loudly to the floor as Riddick headed to the doors the smell passed over him as he passed Shirah and her impression of him changed. He was a convict but he was a leader, he was led astray and did what he had to like a lone wolf. Now he was shoved into a pack he had not created and was trying to make do with the best it had to offer.
“What?” his voice was loud as he ripped open the door. Shirah could not see who it was because the door to the room she was in blocked her sight.
“Sir everyone is waiting in the conference room for you.” Riddick slid on his goggles over his eyes and nodded he waited until the guard was out of sight before he spoke to Shirah.
“Shirah get dressed there will be a guard waiting for you to escort you to the conference room I would like you to see something.” Shirah walked to the door and peaked out watching Riddick’s back disappear from the room with the alpha male in tow. One of the females looked up at her.
“How could he resist that smell?” The beast ruffled her scales and Shirah turned back to the room to change.
