Disclaimer: The Boondock Saints belong to Troy Duffy. I'm making no money form this fic at all and I promise to give Connor and Murphy back when I'm done. Kalin is my own. |
When I woke back up for the third time that day I was in pain. My jaw and lip were throbbing and my side was almost completely black. Damn Murphy to hell and back. Connor was standing in the doorway; I had a second to blink before a cold washcloth hit me in the face. When I say cold I mean freezing I was awake in a second as I pulled it off my face. “What is with the two of you doing that? Just throwing stuff at my head.” I used it to dab the dried blood off of my lip and winced. I saw concern in his eyes; he shut the door and sat next to me. “You’re awake aren’t you? You look like hell.” He put an arm around me, “Yeah nice to see you too, I fuckin’ feel it. Look Connor I’m sorry for it and all, actually you know, I’m not sorry he had no right. I’m not apologizing to him before you even ask, I will not apologize.” “Aye, you will.” Connor’s face was serious as he looked me in the eye; I remembered his little ‘promise’ from earlier and quickly said, “I mean I will just not right now. Ok? Please?” I got up and looked out the window evening was here and we had to go, I turned to him and smiled. “Let’s go destroy all that which is evil.” I walked to him and hugged him he wrapped his arms around me and pressed his lips to my hair. “So that which is good may flourish; Here.” He handed me a black t-shirt, since the neck of mine was all stretched out because of the fight. I quickly took off my shirt and walked to the bathroom, Connor watched me with hungry eyes. I shut the bathroom door and finally saw myself since the fight, I’m not vain by any means but I inwardly winced. A large bruise was making itself known on my jaw and my lip was swollen with a gash in the middle. I took off my shirt to examine my side; I just realized it hurt to breathe so I was sure he’d bruised a couple ribs. As much as I was pissed I had to acknowledge a good punch. I quickly showered and walked into the living room; I sat on the poor couch, lay my head back, closed my eyes, and began to think. Tonight we hit a big boss with the mob, neither Murph nor I were completely up to par, but that was our fault. Connor knew it too and it pissed him off. We weren’t after Yakavetta, not yet, but one of his underbosses. He was in one of the lower levels of the Prude, and that made it dicey. I didn’t like it but it wasn’t up to me. I was blending in again as one of the girls who hung around; I hated it that meant I was wearing a dress. Which Connor said I wouldn’t have to worry about wearing long, and at that I smiled to myself. It was almost sad the way we couldn’t keep our hands off one another, like a couple of horny teenagers. I shook my head and went back to thinking. They had disposable cell phones as did I; I would blend with the phone and send a text when it was clear for them to come in. What worried me most was I was going in without a gun. Connor would have it, but that scared me to be almost defenseless. Well not defenseless I thought as I ran a hand over my jaw. I started to think about how to cover up my bruises, and I walked back into the bathroom to try and let my make-up work its magic. Connor POV I sat in the kitchen with a cigarette in my mouth and watched her. I knew what she was doing, she was thinking. Analyzing. Making sure she had every detail of the plan drummed into her head. I watched her get up and walk into the bathroom. I blew out a stream of smoke and looked a Murph. “I don’t like it Murph. It doesn’t feel right. I don’t want to use her as bait.” He glared at me, “You wouldn’t have cared if you hadn’t started fucking her.” Murphy said quietly he was still seething. “Shut the fuck up. Have you grown so heartless?” I snapped, wanting nothing more than to black his other eye for that crack. “Maybe. Who the fuck knows? Let’s just get this over with.” Murph said shortly putting his smoke out in quick sharp stabs. “What the hell is your problem Murph? This isn’t you.” I accused, and it wasn’t him at all, and he wasn’t telling me things which worried me. “Nothing. I don’t know. I just don’t know.” He ran a hand over his face and looked at me, he looked tired and weary. “Are you lonely or something? What is it?” “I guess. I think I need more sleep, plus I hurt all over the damn place.” He smirked as he glanced into the living room, “She throws one hell of a punch.” “Ah I’m sorry Murph. Aye you might, and I bet she does, I’ve not seen anyone actually give you a black eye in years. Don’t worry once we’ve got Yakavetta we’re out of here, it’s too hot for us here. Maybe New York or something, hell, maybe even back to Ireland.” I said contemplating the options out loud, he nodded. “Aye that sounds good. C’mon it’s time.” Kalin POV I saw them stand in the kitchen and walked to the bedroom to get ready. I put on the dress I’d been wearing when I met them, long black boots and the purse. Which the gun could have easily fit in my purse but Connor wouldn’t hear of it, “What if they check your purse?” He’d asked. I had to agree with him there. I hated how he always seemed to be right. I sighed, have I mentioned I hate dresses? Yeah? Ok just making sure, but really I do. My makeup had done the trick; I almost hated the stuff it was a pain to mess with. I dropped the phone into the purse and walked into the main room. Connor hugged me close, and I saw over his shoulder Murphy making a face, I saw red but I kept it to myself. “Be careful. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you.” He whispered in my ear, I smiled. “Don’t worry Connor, I promise everything will be ok.” I kissed him hard, and swore to myself that this wouldn’t be goodbye. I picked up my purse and walked out the door. The Prude wasn’t but a couple of blocks, thank God, because these boots were hell on my feet. I took the elevator to the 8th floor and knocked on large doors, they showed obvious signs of wealth. It was opened by a street soldier and I was ushered in. I spotted our target immediately a big man of about 6ft and I’d guess 260-300 pounds. All muscle, he was a big mother fucker, and he looked like a bumbling idiot. Then he came and talked to me, we talked street wars and drugs. The man was a financial genius it was almost a shame we were going to kill him. He patted my shoulder and walked away. About an hour later the room cleared out and he ordered me to stay. I felt my stomach slick with nerves, and a shudder went through me. I pulled out my phone and quickly texted the boys. Now I stalled, waiting. “You are smart, so why are you dressed like some common whore? It’s obvious you’re not.” Russia intertwined with his words. “No, no I’m not, but a girl wants to look sexy every now and then.” He sat down across the room from me and looked me up and down. “Why are you here?” He asked and I’m pretty sure the color drained from my face. Was he onto me? “I-I was hired to entertain for the evening.” I said quickly, damn it where were the boys? Even as I thought it there was a knock at the door. The knock we used to let the other know we were there. “Should I get it? It looks like someone left their jacket.” I asked in a sweet voice, he waved a hand to tell me to get it and sipped on wine. I looked through the peep hole and saw the boys. I opened it and in they came. The man lunged to his feet, his eyes fixed on Murphy. “Down on the ground! Right now!” Murphy commanded harshly as Connor slipped behind him and knocked the man’s knees out from underneath him. He fell to his knees and they both dropped iron to the back of his head. The man immediately looked at me in shock and started cursing me in Russian and I cursed him right back. His mouth hung open in shock. Connor tossed me my gun and I pointed it at the man’s head from a distance so he wouldn’t dare move. The boys started the prayer; “And Shepherds we shall be, for thee my lord for thee. Power hath descended forth from thy hand that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. And we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patri, Et, Fili, Spiritus Sancti.” Their guns went off with a faint pop simultaneously and the man fell to the floor. The placed pennies in his eyes before crossing themselves, Connor looked at me and gave me a crooked grin. They grabbed the bag of money that was the now dead man’s and we exited out the service entrance. We walked back to the apartment quickly and unlocked the door. We went in and locked it behind us. I let out a loud breath that caught on a sob. Connor turned quickly and saw silent tears making their way down my face. “Oh shit. A-Are you alright? A Ghra what is wrong?” He arms were around me in an instant. “He was onto me! He knew I wasn’t there for business. He knew! I think he was going to kill me, he had a clinch piece in his boot.” They boys exchanged worried glances; Connor ran his hands up and down my bare arms. “Aye, never again. I didn’t like this to begin with, never again.” Connor said quietly placing a kiss on top of my head. I nodded I wasn’t disagreeing; I wanted this to be over. This violence was bringing back nightmares I thought I’d long locked away. They were coming back in bits and pieces and were getting worse. Now I was scared for Connor to sleep next to me in fear I would cry or scream and he wouldn’t understand why. I pushed it to the back of my mind and kissed him lightly. “I want a fuckin’ drink.” I said decisively and walked to the kitchen. I heard Connor chuckle and follow behind me. Behind the two of them Murphy turned away to hide a faint tear that ran down his face. A/N
