Alex was terrified for me, because we didn't know how deep everything ran with my biological parents. We eventually left the motel to head to the diner; we planned on being there a little early so we could get dinner before we spoke to Missy.
We headed down the road, and I noticed the blue car again. “Alex, look in the mirror. I told you the car was blue, that's the car from earlier.” I said panicking because it wasn't Alex who was driving, it was me. Alex looked back, and said “that car was sitting across from the motel earlier, that's why I didn’t see it in the parking lot of the motel, just keep driving, you’re almost to Missy’s diner, just watch your speed, and keep your eyes on the road, don't worry about that person behind you.” She said watching the car closely.
We pulled into the diner and slowly got out. I saw the closed sign, we saw Missy moving around slowly, stopping occasionally, to look out the windows. She soon spotted us and came out of the door, waving us in the same way she had entered that morning. “I’m so thankful you came back, I didn’t know if you were going to, I’m sorry about this morning, I kind of sprung that on you.” She spoke. “No, it’s ok, I’m glad someone knew me, and could tell me what I don’t know.” I said, “Uh, would you girls, ladies like something to eat? I still have the grill on, I hadn’t shut it off and cleaned it yet, please let me make you something.” She said, “A burger and maybe fries.” I said, looking at her with the utmost kindness. “A Burger and some onion rings, please,” Alex replied.
Missy disappeared into the back, we could hear her moving around quickly. She soon reappeared with 2 plates. “What made you come up here? I never thought I would ever see you again.” She said, sitting down across from us. “I am so confused about so much, and I’m still processing that my dad killed my mom, and then himself, and our neighbor,” I said. Missy stared at me funny. “You’re dad didn’t kill your mom.” She said. “What do you mean? I was told it was a murder suicide.” I said, staring at her in shock. “Ellie, Libby, there's a lot about this town you don’t know, but I know for a fact your dad didn’t kill your mom.” She said.
“Your parents called me last night and begged me not to give you any information, but you have every right to know, and I’m going to be as honest as I can with you about everything.” She said, reaching across the table, touching my hand. “First of all, how did you know my biological parents and our family?” I said, “Your family moved here in 1988, you were 4, and your brother was a year old. I took on watching your brother while your mother ran errands or whatever, and eventually you on half-day kindergarten.” She said. “So you knew my little brother, what was he like?” I said. “Sweetest little boy, you were a good kid too, you 2 never gave me any issues.” She said. “You said my parents called you, how would they know to get in touch with you if they didn't have any information for me besides the adoption papers, and what they were told by DCFS?” I said. “Libby, your parents were from Ludlow; they moved to New Jersey so they could take custody of you after your biological parents died.” She said, staring at me in shock. “WHAT?” Alex said with much more voice than I had.
“No, that's not possible, they told both me and Alex that they didn't know anything other than my parents died in a murder suicide,” I said, tearing up. “That explains it Lib, they were too quiet, and then they didnt even want you researching anything on your biological family, they didnt want you going to see your grandmother, and they didn’t want you coming up here, Mom was pissed almost irrate on the phone with us last night, she knows and she didnt want you to find out.” She said before putting her arms around me.
“Oh, Missy, what can you tell me? Start from the beginning.” I said. “Your family moved here in 1988, Your dad took on dr at the college, his first day on the job he lost a paitent, and things just went down hill, by 1989 your brother was hit by the semi, a week later your mom and dad were deceased, and you disappeared, I tried to get custody of you, but your grandmother signed off on you being adopted by the MIchin’s and thats the last I heard of you until your mom called me last night begging me not to tell you anything.” She said giving me vague details. “Missy, what was the patient's name?” I asked. “Um, I think it was Victor Pascow, 20 year 20-year-old from New Jersey, he was hit by a car, and he died shortly after at the university medical center.” She said. “Mother Fucker, I knew it, I knew he had something to do with your past life, I told you that headstone was something to research.” She said. “What are you talking about?” Missy said, looking a bit scared. “Alex got married a month ago, and we had the wedding at a small church in New Jersey, We were taking sister pictures and while walking back I tripped over a headstone, the headstone belonged to Victor Pascow, Alex said she remembered me having nightmares about someone with the name of pascow as a kid, and my parents thought it was an imaginary friend,” I said.
Missy stared at me in stunned silence. “Libby, have you ever heard of the Mimac Indians?” She asked. “No,” I said. “Ok, good, don't even want to go into that just yet.” She said. Just then, the door dinged, and a young man came walking in. “Hey Missy, you didn't come home, I got a bit worried, are you alright?” The Young man said. “Yeah, Bra, I’m alright, I had something I needed to take care of before leaving the diner tonight.t, Brad, this is Ellie Creed, Libby Michin, and her sister Alex.” She said I watched the guy's face fall. “Why would you even talk to a lunatic like her, she’s going to bring nothing but trouble to this town and shit will start all over again.” He said. “Woah, don't talk about my sister like that, what gives you the right to even say fucked up shit like that,” Alex said pushing me behind her. “She killed her grandparents with an ax, they found her licking the brains off the blade. Get that lunatic out of here.” He said, looking very serious. “What are you talking about?” Missy said, looking between us. “Licking the brains off the blade, what don't you understand? She's crazy and should never have been let out of the insane asylum. Brad said, pushing Missy away from us and further behind him.
“Ok Let’s all calm down, because this shit is getting way out of han,.” I said now really freaked out by the situation. “Have you never heard the stories told by the kids, during my time growing up, even now they are still the same. The only 2 words she could mutter were Pet Sematary, the cops were called, and she had murdered her grandparents with an ax, and was found licking the brains off the blade., She’s spent her life in a mental hospital. He spoke. “Ok, not true. I don't remember my life here before I was adopted, I came up here to find out about my past, and about my family, I just reconnected with Missy this morning, and my grandparents, well my grandmother is still alive, I just saw her 2 days ago, my grandfather passed away last year, Whoever told you that story is spreading misinformation.” I said even more pissed off. “Missy, get him under control before I do it, and he will hate me even more. I said
After a little bit, things calmed down, and eventually Brad looked at Missy. “What all have you told her?” He spoke. “I hadn't told her anything before you came in, only that her parents didn't die in a murder suicide,” Missy said, looking scared. “Ok someone better start talking since I got here I’ve gotten told that the law firm didn't send me a letter, I couldn’t have the location to my parents graves, I’m having nightmares about a yellow house and a cat, and then Brad came in here ready to have me committed, Whatever is happening, or has happened, I’m the center of it, and I need to know every detail from beginning to end, start talking,” I said. “I don't know you, I don’t to tell you anything, I don’t need to tell you anything, Our town was quiet, and this shit is going to start all over again, why couldn’t you have stayed away” Brad said.
“No, Brad, she needs to know, it’s only right,” Missy said, patting his chest, which was now heaving up and down. “Please I’m about to have a panic attack, someone start fucking talking, this is bullshi,.” I said, knowing the world was going to go black in less than 20 seconds.
“Sit down, let me get you a glass of water, and I will start talking,” Missy said, forcing me into a booth seat. I slowed my breathing and was able to calm down, I waited for Missy to come back with a glass of water. Just then, I looked up to see the blue stalker car sitting in the far corner of the parking lot, almost out of sight. “Alex, they’re back, far corner of the parking lot,” I said, not wanting to point, but Brad stood up quickly. “ That was sitting there when I pulled in, someone looked like they were asleep in the driver's seat.” He said, heading for the door, but Missy aappearedputting down the glasses of water before stopping him. “We will just keep a close eye on the girls from this moment forward.” She said, pushing Brad into the booth before sitting down.
