(Ok, I am back, here is the next chapter, hope you enjoy :)
Talltree-san- you're welcome, and thanks for the understanding. I'll try to make the chappies as long as I can, but sometimes it takes a bit to write since I am still getting back in to it, but will try as best as I can.
livelovelaugh- thanks, I tried to find a name that would fit and wouldn't be too far off from Jake Sully
storm- thanks for the review, I will try to write as much as possible, but for now, because I am in school and life is a priority, getting chapters out is not on the top of my list, but will continue on with the story)
Chapter 3: Back to the Planet ~16 years later~Jake Sully woke from a cryogenic sleep, yawning and stretching slightly, though not by much, hearing a few joints pop before relaxing. He knew in a few moments, he would be released from this enclosed space, but for now, he thought back to what he had dreamed. He had dreamed about colorful plants, somewhere he thought he knew, but in his mind, had no clue what he was looking at. Soon, he wasn't alone, and saw a tall shadow far off from him and he had tried to walk over to it, but couldn't seem to move. By the time he had woken up, he could barely remember what the dream was, only of the plants and barely anything of the shadow. Now, he pondered on what it meant and he sighed, thinking that it had been something from what his brother had told him in his letters to him. At the thought of his brother, he felt a clench in his chest and he had to swallow slightly the lump that had formed in his throat. The reason he had agreed to travel to Pandora, was because his brother had died on the planet, and apparently had been preparing an avatar for him to use in the next year coming. But when he had died, the date he was supposed to leave moved up, and he found himself not only being a part of the Navi project, but now, he was supposedly to help the eco-ists there to collect samples. At that, he frowned and huffed slightly, knowing full well he was not a tree hugger/eco lover, but a trained soldier in the army. Well, a past soldier in the army, since he had been retired from it after he had suffered an injury to his spine that had paralyzed him from the waist down. Since he did not have the money to spend on surgery to fix the injury, he was now bound to a wheelchair, for possibly forever if he never got the money for it. Hopefully, after this project on Pandora, that would change. Now, as the tank he was in opened, he unstrapped himself and slowly moved out, barely listening to the computer talking to him as he took out his things to change. Soon enough, he had changed, strapped himself in to a seat for landing and waited as the ship came in to orbit to land. When he felt the jolt of the ship landing on the planet, he turned the switch on the side to activate the mask to help him breathe, before unlocking his seat belt and taking out his wheelchair to unfold. He heard the other soldiers unbuckling and getting up from their seats, and tried to be as fast as possible to move to sit in his wheelchair to get out of the ship. As he wheeled himself out, he could already hear the other soldiers around him start to jeer about the new soldiers on the planet, but quickly ignored them as he looked around at the base. He almost paused as he saw some arrows stuck in a few ships, wondering if that was the work of the natives. He had heard from his brother about the Navi on Pandora, to have a better idea on how he would look when he would meet his avatar, but also heard that the natives had become more and more violent over the years, that no one outside of the eco scientists that they trusted, were allowed to come close to them. Apparently one of the stories that his brother had told him that had pushed the Navi to violence, had begun when people first came to Pandora. When having met the Navi, the people had not trusted them, and had killed both the Navi who were there to make peace, and the translator there. There wasn't much else to the story, but since then, the eco scientists that had came to the planet shortly after that incident, made sure that nothing like that would happen again.Jake snapped out of it when he heard his name called and looked up to find he was inside of the base, looking over his shoulder to see a tall lanky, sort of geeky kind of guy coming up to him. The man introduced himself as Norman and he showed him the lab where his avatar lay in a tube of liquid, looking merely asleep.
He couldn't believe his eyes at the sight of his avatar, seeing how big it was in person, and how much it looked so much like him. Though, he shouldn't be too surprised over it, his brother had told him many times in his letters how much it looked like Jake, and said that he would sometimes talk to it, as if it was his actual brother right next to him listening. He found himself smiling slightly at the memory, raising his hand slightly to touch the glass where one of the avatar's hands were placed, seeing it twitch slightly towards him and wondered if it actually felt him near, or if that was just a figment of his imagination.~A few hours later~After speaking to both the general and Grace, the head of the eco scientists, he was finally ready to connect to his avatar for a test run. Following Grace over to one of the machines, he pulled himself up in to it and laid back as Grace placed the top over him. He tried to relax as told and felt a sort of drowsiness settle over him as he heard the machine whir to life, slowly closing his eyes as if he was going to sleep. It felt like a pull when his mind transferred over, and then, he slowly opened his eyes again as he heard muffled voices slowly clear up, asking him questions about how he felt. He sat up as carefully as possible, wiggling his fingers and toes slightly before trying to stand up. Although a bit wobbly, he managed to stand shakily and find his balance, grinning as he could walk now. Once he felt stable enough, he started to walk, feeling his confidence build with every step he took, and suddenly, he needed to go outside, to feel the air on his skin and the ground underneath his feet, so he did. Ignoring the scientists telling him to get back on the table, he took off out the door, looking around as different sights and sounds surrounded him, almost as if in a symphony. He felt that odd feeling in his chest again, as if he knew this place from a long time ago, but didn't know how he did. As he looked around, he caught sight of the edge of the forest, feeling his heart thumping loud in his chest at the sight and feeling a pull to run to somewhere in the forest. Where, he didn't know, why, he couldn't say either, but inside he felt like he needed to. Just as he was about to follow his instincts and see where it lead him, he heard Grace call out to him and he snapped back in to focus, ignoring for the moment that pull to the forest. Grace helped with finding him some clothes to change in to, so he wouldn't be walking around in just a medical gown, and filled him in on what he would be doing, before leading him to where the avatar slept and he could go back to his own body. After Grace turned off the lights, he lay there for a few minutes just listening to the sounds around him and letting them lull him to sleep. It only took a second for him to transfer back and he was opening his eyes to Grace opening the lid, sitting up and blinking slightly at the bright lights. He got back in to his wheelchair and followed Norman to where he would be sleeping. He said goodnight to Norman and after putting away the meager things he had packed, he pulled himself out of the wheelchair and in to bed. He stared up at the ceiling, thinking back on his day, and remembered the pull he felt earlier. It was still there, but it wasn't as strong when he was in his avatar and he wondered why that was. He looked through his memories, trying to see if anything related to the pull came up, but nothing did. Just a gap that was filled in shadow that he did not understand. He was told a long time ago that he had been adopted by his parents, but that when he was found, he had not shown up on any records, and no one had claimed him. When he was adopted at seven, that is where his memories really started, but further back was nothing, as if his own mind couldn't even fathom why that space was empty. He sighed and turned on his side, closing his eyes to fall asleep and hoping that whatever the pull was would go away, so he wouldn't be so confused as he was. It only took a few moments for him to fall asleep, and within the dreams, he saw the same shadow haunt him.~A few days passed and when the new week started, it proved to be eventful, because he was chosen to go out with Grace and Norman in their avatars to collect samples, and he was to go to be a body guard. He didn't mind going, in fact, he was excited about it. He would be able to walk around in his avatar again and get to see some of the planet, though he knew it wouldn't be a lot. But, nevertheless, he was excited and he got dressed, ate, and ready to go in to the machine in record time. Once inside and he had transferred over to his avatar, he found some clothes neatly piled at the foot of his bed and got dressed in them, admiring the way they fit perfectly and slightly curious on who took the time to make them. Grace shouted for him and Norman and he hurried with putting on the rest of his gear and grabbing the gun given to him by a soldier on his way over to the helicopter Grace stood by. It didn't take long to get to where they needed to, and soon they were landing, letting him jump off and scope the area with his gun up and ready to fire if needed. Once he saw it was all clear, he put the gun down and turned to see Grace roll her eyes and mutter something along the lines of 'jug head' as she lead Norman to where they would be collecting samples. He followed behind them, but a kept a short distance, not really interested in whatever they were doing anyway. He looked around at the different plants and listening to the different sounds of animals. He felt the pull in his chest again and frowned as he looked in the direction it supposedly wanted him to go. He was really confused over this, having been able to ignore it mostly at base as he trained, but within the forest, it felt constant and harder to resist. 'Maybe… if I only go a few steps that way, whatever I am feeling will lessen.' he thought, looking back at Grace and Norman to see they were still collecting samples. He bit his lip as he looked back in the direction and took a few steps that way, stopping in a part where he was surrounded by these strange flowers. He groaned slightly, still feeling the pull, and it feeling even worse than before. He tried to focus on the flowers around him and reached out to touch one, only for it to pull itself inside, making him jump in surprise. Grinning, he touched a few more that pulled themselves in, and saw a chain reaction of them pulling in until he was face to face with a creature he had never seen before. He quickly grabbed his gun and pulled it up, ready to fire if needed, and called out for Grace. They went back and forth about what he should do, but it didn't really matter, because the choice was made for him as after a while, it charged him and he charged back. It backed off at the last moment, and he thought he had done a good job, when he heard a growl behind him. He turned slowly and saw another creature, and there wasn't much time to ask what he should do before he just decided to run.It took almost forever for him to give the creature the slip, he had even had to jump off a cliff, and was thankful there had been water at the bottom. But as he looked around, panting for breath after the chase, he realized he had no clue where he was and he wondered what he should do. When he felt his heartbeat stop racing in his chest, he began to walk in to the forest, looking around and wondering where he should try to go. But the longer he walked, the more lost he became and soon, the light had faded and now only the glow from the plants were seen to him. He sat by a tree for a while, wondering what he should do, when he felt the pull again. He sighed in frustration, the pull had to come just when he was lost and he was now considering if he should follow it. It would either one, help him find help, or two, get him even more lost. Number two seemed more likely than anything, but knowing he had no other choices he could try, he got up and started walking, letting the pull he felt guide him. He noticed as he walked, he was going deeper in to the forest and the plants seemed to glow even more brightly. He stopped to rest a moment, and admire the plants around him, when suddenly, something wrapped around his ankles and he fell to the ground. He grunted as he barely caught himself and when he looked up, he saw Navi come out of the bushes around him, spears and arrows pointed at him. He stayed down, looking around and wondering what he had done, when all of a sudden, he saw one of them get off a creature they rode. He looked up, going to ask what exactly he had done and to apologize, when the words died in his throat and his eyes widened slightly. In front of him stood a very tall Navi, with broad shoulders and muscles that rippled with every movement. His eyes trailed up the long legs, seeing the tail swish by the Navi's feet, up past the Navi's abdominal muscles, all the way up until he was staring straight in to narrowed eyes that seemed to glow in the dark. For some reason, he felt his heart flutter in his chest at the sight of this Navi and he had no clue why. But the longer he stared at this Navi, the more he got the feeling that he somehow knew him, though he didn't know why. He saw something flicker in the Navi's narrowed eyes, recognition? Confusion? Couldn't be, they had never met before. He saw the Navi shake his head and say something to one of the others he did not understand, before the Navi looked back at him. The last thing he saw were those eyes before he was knocked out from behind.(Well, that is it for now, please rate and review!!! :3)While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
