It was fairly bright inside the ship due to the
massive number of computers. Maha’vin noticed how she stayed close to Kul’vir.
He would give her one week before she, he or someone else killed her. She
didn’t notice any windows and the only sound was coming from the computers.
Maha’vin would purposely maneuver the ship making a
hard right or left making Kayla fall out her seat. She realized after the third
time and watching him chuckle it wasn’t by accident. “Enough uncle,”
Kul’vir growled. He taped her shoulder and pointed to a rail she could hold on
to.
“Stop protecting the ooman…”
“Kayla,” she cut him off. “My name is Kayla.”
“You haven’t earned my respect to call you by your
name,” he roared at her. “Until then, you are just an ooman.” He shook his head
in disbelief. He looked back at her for a moment.
The way she glared at Maha’vin and narrowed her eyes
in anger actually made her look slightly attractive to him. He made a noise she
became to know as laughter before turning back around. Kayla couldn’t tell when
they were in space due to the artificial gravity. They did dock with a
tremendously loud thump.
Kul’vir could sense her nervousness. “Don’t worry. I
will always protect you.” She looked at him and nodded. “Stick these in your
nose. Our air may make you lightheaded after a few days.” Kayla stuffed the
small circular object in her nose. Surprisingly it wasn’t uncomfortable.
Maha’vin was greeted first as he exited the ship.
“What is this?” Sa’tesh roared as he glared at Kayla. “Son, you’re supposed to
kill your prey. Not bring it back as a pet.” Maha’vin explained to his brother
about their father’s letter, but left out the detail about his wishes for him
being an elder. “What is her name?”
“Ooman,” Maha'vin joked.
“Kayla,” she finally spoke. “My name is Kayla. She
bowed her head softly to the elder.
“She speaks our language,” he said to no one in
particular. Kayla watched Kul’vir finish his conversation with his mother. She
looked at Kayla and walked over. “I suppose she can sleep with the Eta’s and serve on the ship.”
Nam’rah hissed at her mate, “That ooman will not
become a slave on this ship. She saved your son’s life. She is an honored and
welcomed part of this clan.”
“What is that language called,” Kayla whispered to
Kul’vir.
“It is a language only spoken with the elders,” he
explained. “Not even I know what they say of you.”
Maha’vin listened as the two tried to decide if Kayla
was good enough to be honored or work as a slave. He made his brother teach him
the language decades ago.
“I am Nam’rah.” She placed her hand on Kayla’s
shoulder and bowed. “Please let me walk you to your quarters. You look weary.”
Maha’vin growled at Kayla as she walked past him. They walked in silence as the
four female guards walked behind them. Kayla noticed they wore full armor and
large weapons. She thought Yautja’s
would live in a dark ugly place, but it was just the opposite. Every corridor was
of a different color. Every room door was a different color as well. From her
father’s teachings, they didn’t see in color. He was wrong. Kayla stepped into
the room and smiled. She only saw something like this in a sci-fi show. She
never knew there were actually so many stars in the sky. She walked closer to
the large wall windows. “My son told me of your hunting skills and how you
helped him.”
“Those men were going to kill him,” Kayla explained.
“I’m sorry if I interfered with your hunting ritual.”
“I appreciate your help,” she clicked her mandibles
softly at Kayla. “He needs his rest and so do you.” She handed Kayla a thin
communicator. “If you need anything let me know and I’ll send someone right
over. Later I will feed you and we can discuss everything you know. When you’re
up to it I will have Maha’vin show you the rest of the ship.”
“He doesn’t like me.”
“Nonsense,” Nam’rah chuckled. “If he didn’t like you
Kayla he would have killed you by now. I will leave two guards outside your
door just in case he changes his mind.” Kayla smiled and nodded at Nam’rah,
though in her mind she was screaming to get off the ship. If
Maha’vin hadn’t decided if he wanted to kill her or not, she didn’t want to
stick around and wait for an answer.
As Kayla went through another door the lights
automatically came on. She felt like she was looking at the world as a child
would. Everything seemed so large but almost the same
as being home. She didn’t know which one she needed more, a shower or sleep.
She striped off her filthy clothes and stepped into the shower. Kayla stood for
a moment because she couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. She clapped her
hands, but nothing. “Shit,” she mumbled. She thought for a moment. “Shower.” Still nothing. She
stepped back out and grabbed the communicator. She couldn’t find anything to
press. “How in the hell does anything work here!” She shook it for a moment.
“Hello?”
Her weariness made her completely forget Kul’vir
mother’s name. She said the name of the only person she could think of. “Maha’vin.”
She stared at the communicator a moment longer before sitting it back down. She
knew she would just die in this room. They would forget she was there and she
would just starve to death because she didn’t know how to work any of their
technology. A voice startled her from her crazed daydream.
“What do you want?”
She could hear the irritation in his voice. “I need to
take a shower…”
“So you want me to come bathe you?” he questioned in
annoyance.
“How do you turn on the shower,” Kayla started to get
angry. “I just want to take a shower and go to sleep.”
“Say the body temperature you want and say on,” he
barked. “Now, never call me again!” He turned and looked at his communicator
before turning it off. Did she just growl at me, he thought. He let out
a soft trill.
After her shower Kayla slept like a baby. She have never felt a bed as soft and comfortable as the one she
was in. She remembered looking at the stars and thanking her daddy for the
chance to see them up close.
“Wake up Kayla,” she heard someone purr. She opened
her eyes and Maha’vin was stroking her cheek softly. She tried to quickly cover
herself but he effortlessly pulled the covers back exposing her body.
“You said my name,” she said softly. His hand traveled
down to her breast stopping on her stomach.
“You earned it,” he bent down slowly and touched his
mandible to her nipples, making them erect instantly. Kayla let out a soft
gasp. “I knew you were in heat.” He sat closer to her on the bed.”
“I’m not,” she stammered.
Maha’vin pushed her legs apart as he looked at her.
Kayla moaned when his hand touched her. He took his finger out of her and
tasted it. “You are ready.” He removed his cloth and positioned himself in
between her legs.
“Oh my god, no,” she panicked looking down. “Maha’vin,
I don’t think this is natural. I’m not ready.”
Her body jerked when he touched her again. “Yes you
are.” Maha’vin pushed the tip in making her yelp in pain. He squeezed her
thighs softly before placing his hands on her hips. She knew what he was about
to do. Before she could protest he laughed before slamming himself inside her
body.
Kayla jerked up out of bed in a panic. “It was just a
dream,” she said aloud looking around. She laughed to herself wondering if in
fact they were actually that large. Or if they even had one
at all.
“Uncle, oomans sleep a long
time,” Kul’vir said stepping in front of his uncle so he couldn’t disturb
Kayla. “They need at least twice as much sleep than we do. Give her a little
longer.”
“She’s a young blood like you now,” Maha’vin pressed
the button alerting her of their presence. “She must train with us as well.”
Maha’vin banged on the door.
“Come in,” Kayla yelled on the other side.
“Stupid ooman,” Maha’vin mumbled as Kul’vir chuckled.
“Open the door!” He pressed the button and banged again.
“I, I don’t know how,” she yelled. She banged back on
the door causing Kul’vir to laugh harder.
“Say open Kayla,” Kul’vir said. “Mother had it
programmed for you today.”
Maha’vin stepped in first. He stared at her for a
moment. “You smell better today.” So cute, he thought as she narrowed
her eyes at him. He watched her wrap the towel around her body tighter.
“Mother sent these things over for you,” Kul’vir
stepped aside as a woman the same size as Kayla handed her some clothing. “This
is my sister, Siva’nee.”
Siva’nee clicked her mandibles softly at Kayla. In
return Kayla picked up her shells and clicked back making Siva’nee trill
softly. “She is so funny uncle. Come Kayla, I will help you change.”
When they were done Kayla looked at herself and
smiled. “The netting will help your body stay cool, “Siva’nee explained. The
netting fit snug on her entire body. She wasn’t too fond of the fact that it
showed her front and back but she assumed the holes were small enough to not
complain. Soft black cloth went around her breast. “Now, while you’re sparring
you will not get over heated.”
Kayla tuned and looked at her. “Sparring? I’m about to
fight?”
“Train with the other young blooded.” She stood up and
traced her finger on Kayla’s scar. “When you are marked after battle you are
declaring yourself to follow the path of a warrior. I’m a breeder like my
mother.”
“Hell no,” Kayla said in English as she stormed out
the bathroom. “I refuse to fight! I can get killed!” She said to Kul’vir.
Maha’vin walked closer to her as he growled, “You
accepted the mark. What did you think it was? Pretty skin art?” He laughed at
his own joke as he walked out the room.
“Do not worry,” Kul’vir said to her. “You may get a
few bruises. Nothing serious. Everyone knows you are
here. Father told the ship while you were resting.” Kayla took a deep breath as
Siva’nee opened the doors. There was chatter and noise until everyone looked
their way. Suddenly it was silence. Kayla wanted to run. “Calm down,” Kul’vir
whispered. She forgot he was close enough to tell her pulse was racing.
Maha’vin went towards a few other men that were almost
his size and greeted them. “Pair off and begin,” One of the men roared. He
looked at Kayla and nodded. She nodded back and looked back at Kul’vir. He
handed her a combistick.
“What happened?” She asked as two men carried a man in
another direction.
Kul’vir looked at the man then back at her. “He was
just practicing. We will go slowly,” he pushed her shoulder and stepped back in
a fighting stance. Kayla started off well at first until she nervously dropped
her stick. She could hear the other younger warriors laughing. After a while
she started to get the hang of the different positions she didn’t know about
until Maha’vin walked over to them and let out a loud roar.
“What are you doing with this ooman, playing?” He
pushed his nephew away and called someone else over. “We train to survive. She
goes by the rules like anyone else.” Kayla noticed everyone stopped and started
to watch. “Begin!”
The warrior did the same as Kul’vir, pushed her
shoulder and stepped into position. Kayla tried to remember everything her
father taught her and it worked. Within a minute she was able to sweep the
warrior from under his feet and stood on his chest with her stick at his
throat. Kul’vir let out a laugh as he shook his head softly. Maha’vin angrily
called someone else over. How many times will I
have to prove myself, she thought as the aggressive warrior tried to pin
her to the wall. She quickly slid down in between his legs and pushed him,
making his face come into contact with the wall. This made him furious. He
roared as he charged at her. Kayla jumped onto a flat table like surface to
catch the Yautja by surprise and with all her strength hit him on the head wit
her stick. As he was losing his balance she once again swept the feet and
placed her stick at his throat. In between her heavy breathing she could her
them talking to each other. Thanks daddy for making me take gymnastics,
she smiled.
An older male who was teaching the class walked over
to her. She recognized him as the one who roared at the others earlier. For a
moment he watched her chest rise and fall then looked back at her. “Very well
done Kayla,” he nodded. He tilted his head to the side as he looked at her. “We
will talk about your skills later. In the meanwhile teach the two you’ve just
humiliated.” Maha’vin caught their attention with an angry growl.
“She should be practicing with us,” Yo’jit chuckled.
“The ooman isn’t that good,” Maha’vin mumbled.
“Maha’vin she just took down the strongest boy in
here,” another Yautja pointed out. “These kids are of no match to her.”
“What is she doing?” Yo’jit questioned as they watched
her. Kayla had the two boys sit down and find their center. She was trying to
explain to them how concentration will help them learn where their attack will
come from.
“She’s being a female,” Maha’vin answered. “I’ll meet
you all in the meal area.” Maha’vin walked pass her with a low growl.
