Chapter
Four
Will awoke
the next morning from the bright sun that was shining merciless into the room
above the tavern, making his head ache. He groaned, swore he would never drink
rum again. At least not that much.
For a moment
he laid still with closed eyes. He still had a huge hangover, but he remembered
very well what had happened last night. So it hadn´t been a dream.
Did Jack
remember, too?
Cautiously
he looked over to the other side of the bed.
It was
empty.
Will sighed
- relieved and disappointed at the same time.
He washed
and dressed, went downstairs. The tavern was empty, the only man left was the
innkeeper who collected the remains of a few broken chairs.
Will
cleared his throat.
“Morning…”
The man
looked up.
“Huh?”
“Have you
seen Captain Sparrow?”
“Who the
hell… – ah, yeah…Remember. Paid room, wanted to go and buy things for his ship.
Said you wait at ship.”
With this –
for his means - obviously very long speech the innkeeper returned his attention
to the damaged chairs, muttering something incomprehensible.
Will left
the tavern, walked down the streets - which appeared even dirtier now in the
sunlight- to the harbour.
The
“Endeavour” looked proud and huge in the sunlight, and though it was a stolen
ship, Will had a sudden feeling of pride that this their ship, waiting for him
and Jack, waiting to sail out into the ocean again. Yes- there was a
fascination.
A few men
were carrying boxes and barrels onto the ship, and Will wondered if Jack had
found a crew.
A hard slap
on his back made him nearly fall forward.
“The marmot
has finally woken up.” A familiar voice at his ear.
Will turned
around, smiling uncertainly.
“Morning.”
Jack´s eyes
looked darker than ever, there was even more black khol around them. But they
seemed to smile, although his face showed no expression.
“Come
aboard, mate. We haven´t got all day.”
Their crew
were eight men, all looking a bit suspicious, Will thought, but they obviously
were able to work hard. They eyed him curiously, as he did not fit in their
sailor or pirate pattern, but they never asked, and they accepted orders from
him after Jack had told them so.
They left
the harbour when the sun began to set, Jack at the helm and Will standing by
his side. What a change it was after the stressful journey- just standing there
now, no need to run over the deck all the time, no need to do all the work on
their own.
Will looked
back at Tortuga, disappearing in the distance.
“Where are
we going?”
His voice
sounded a bit strained, as he felt he certainly was neither willing nor able to
board some innocent trading ship the next moment.
Jack
grinned, his white and golden teeth blinking in the light of the setting sun.
“Mate- I once sacked Nassau Port without
even firing a shot. So it´s not all shooting and slitting throats.” He looked
at his compass. “Don´t
worry. I have other plans for us. The Captain of the ´Endeavour´ had some maps of
an island in his cabin which look a bit suspicious – or better, promising- to
me. I bet he kept some goods for himself he should have delivered to the
Governor. We´ll check out that island first. Should be a week´s travel.”
He chuckled
when he sensed Will´s relief.
“I promise
you, no one will be killed in the next days, except for some fish, maybe.”
He watched
Will closely.
“Oh- and,
by the way- I also intend to keep my other promise.”
Will leant
over the rail, watching a few dolphins accompanying the ship.
“What other
promise?”
“The
promise I gave you in Port Royal.”
A slight
shiver crept up Will´s spine. He felt Jack coming nearer.
“I… can´t
remember…”
Jack´s hand
was on his neck, squeezing it lightly.
“I promised
to tie you up and spank you. And I intend to keep that promise tonight.”
Will
grabbed the rail, not daring to turn around.
“But…”
Jack
laughed.
“Oh, don´t
try to tell me you thought it was a joke… Or a threat…”
Will stared
into the ocean.
“Yes… I…
Thought it was a joke…”
Jack´s hand
massaged his neck now.
“No, Will.
You knew it wasn´t a joke. And it was one of the reasons why you came with me.”
Not waiting
for an answer, he patted Will´s back.
“Come to my
cabin after sunset. I´ll wait for you.”
When Will
dared to turn around again, the ship´s mate stood at the helm. Jack was gone.
He paced up
and down inside his cabin when it was already dark outside.
`I won´t
go.` he told himself. `Jack is crazy. I didn´t do anything that gives him a
reason to do this. To punish me.`
It would be
different this time. It would happen in Jack´s cabin. No one would be there…
A familiar
shiver ran down his spine.
`It is
fear` he told himself.
He knew,
Jack was waiting for him. He could go. He could knock on his door. He could
tell Jack that he would not allow him to…
And while
he was still thinking, trying to decide what to do, Will suddenly realised he
already stood in front of the Captain´s cabin, his hand raised.
No.
He turned
around to leave.
The door
opened.
Jack smiled
mysteriously.
“Come in, Will…”
The cabin
looked different, now that Jack lived in it. When they had boarded the
´Endeavour`, the cabin had been the mirror of the former captain – orderly and
bare. Now there were colourful fabrics lying around, candles, a bowl full of
beads, and maps and parchments spread over the table. A huge pile of some
thick, rough fabric, the size and height of a table, was placed in stacks in
the corner of the room. Will recognised it was an old sail.
He took a
deep breath.
“I came to
tell you…”
He had to
clear his throat, had to start again, his eyes closed.
“I came
here to tell you that… There is no reason to punish me and so I won´t allow you
to do it.”
The words
had come out fast and when Will opened his eyes again, Jack was standing in
front of him, smiling. Raising a hand, letting one finger trace the line of
Will´s jaw. Will could not help but tremble.
“Punish…?”
Jack´s finger trailed down his neck. “I won´t punish you… And you know it. This
won´t be about punishing.”
He walked
over to the desk, leaving Will slightly swaying.
When he
came back, he held a thick purple rope in his hand, the kind that Will
recognised from visits in noble houses, used to hold heavy curtains together.
“Come,
Will. Turn around. Put your hands on your back.”
Will´s eyes
were wide open.
“No…”
Jack came
close, very close. His lips brushed over Will´s cheek. His moustache tickled.
“What are
you afraid of… You´ll enjoy it, Will.”
Will looked
at the door, trembling. Why didn´t he just walk out?
“What are
you planning to do…” he whispered, inhaling Jack´s scent.
Jack´s lips
moved over to the sensitive spot right under his ear, and Will´s knees nearly
gave in.
“I´ll tie
your wrists together. Don´t worry, the rope won´t hurt.” He pointed with his
chin to the pile.
“Then I will
pull your pants down and bend you over there. It is better than a chair or
table. You can relax on it.”
Will had to
hold on to Jack´s arm. Did the sea suddenly became rough? He felt dizzy…
“And
then…?” he whispered.
Jack
reached over to the table, pulled something from under a cloth. It looked like
a small wooden paddle with a short handle, made out of some exotic, dark red
wood. It was smoothed and polished, the surface shining in the candle light.
Will stared
at it. He felt a bit safer on his feet now- then he realised it was because he
was leaning against Jack, who held him now with his free arm.
“Why…” he
breathed.
Jack let
his fingers run over the paddle.
“Is it that
important to know…?”
It was important
to Will. And he wanted to know. Why Jack did all this.
But was
there a need to know it tonight…?
No. Not
tonight.
He was
thankful that Jack gave him a moment of time to decide.
He let his
head drop against Jack´s shoulder. Breathing in, breathing out. Imagined what
was to come.
And he felt
the heat rise in his body.
In the
prison he had been grabbed brutally, had been chained to the wall, fighting in
vain.
Here, in
Jack´s cabin, he now raised his head, looked into Jack´s dark eyes.
Then he
turned around, crossed his wrists behind his back.
“Do it…” he
whispered.
