Happy New Year!… I enjoyed
writing this story as much as I love reading the reviews. Thank you all!
“Sh’lok,” Kayla could hear
them all talking at once. Aa’rth trilled softly.
“He’s not part of the
decision!” Sa’tesh growled in anger. Sh’lok rushed in with Kul’vir and Kayla
smiled. He growled softly in her direction. For that moment no one else
mattered. He stared deeply into her eyes.
“I don’t care who I have to
challenge in this room, I’m taking Kayla as my mate,” Sh’lok growled as he
looked at everyone.
“I can accept that,” Ne’el
nodded to him.
Maha’vin stared at him for
a moment then nodded in his direction.
“Kayla was the female you
were telling me about?” Aa’rth laughed. Sh’lok never responded. He walked over
to Kayla and stood in front of her. He watched as she held her stomach. He
placed his hand near his knife just in case Pa’ram thought of attacking him.
“You’re late,” she
whispered. Kayla felt herself falling to her knees but Sh’lok quickly helped
her up. He lifted her up in his arms and looked at her. “I had to fight,” Kayla
whimpered. “The baby.” Kayla’s world faded to
blackness. She laid limp in Sh’lok’s arms as he rushed
her to the medical lab.
“She needs to rest for a
few days,” Pahel said softly to Sh’lok. “She lost the baby.” Sh’lok nodded, but
felt his anger rising. How could he even allow himself to listen to Kul’vir? He
stood up to go look for him.
“Sh’lok,” Kayla said
softly. She turned to look at him. She could see his hurt and anger. “It wasn’t
your baby. Kul’vir was my acting mate when Ga’gan left.” He tilted his head to
the side.
“Are you sure?” he sat
closer to her. Kayla nodded her head. The color faded from his eyes. Sh’lok
reached for her hand and massaged it gently. “I can understand and respect
that, if it happened before us.”
“Of course it did,” Kayla
looked at him. Sh’lok bent down and nuzzled his mandibles on her neck.
“Someday, I too will pat my
chest,” he spoke softly in her ear. Kayla rubbed the side of his face softly
before he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her close.
Sh’lok watched her as she
slept. Nam’rah snapped him from his thoughts. She watched Sh’lok with Kayla for
a moment. She didn’t question how Sh’lok felt, and knew Kayla was well
protected whenever she saw them together on the planet. Like everything else on
the ship, she knew Sh’lok did the things he did for a reason. Nam’rah knew he
was emotional, but he hid it so well she never said anything to him.
“Mother,” Sh’lok nodded to
her. Nam’rah caressed his cheek softly with the back of her hand as she purred.
She raised Sh’lok as her own since his mother died from his childbirth. It was
her closet friend, so she made sure he received the best of care. Nam’rah made
the other females breast feed him, and made sure he was not given synthetic
proteins like other children with no mothers. At night he stayed in her
quarters or with his father. As much as Sa’tesh protested about her favoritism,
Sh’lok was her baby. He always called her mother when no one else was around.
“You never told me your
feelings for Kayla,” she looked at him.
“Shortly before we landed
on the planet,” he admitted. Sh’lok turned to look at Kayla. She was still
sleeping. “I was slightly interested but I knew she was mated. I would never
cross that line. Since we have been on the planet we managed to spend a lot of
time together.” Nam’rah nodded. One thing she adored about Sh’lok was his
honesty. She never had to feel on his pulse like her sons and daughter.
“You will be moving into
her quarters immediately. I will watch my grandchild for a while. I already had
servants remove Ga’gan’s belongings. His trophies will remain with me.”
“She lost the baby because
of a tremendous blow to her stomach. I assume came from Pa’ram?” Sh’lok
questioned.
“Yes.”
“It was Kul’vir’s child,”
he told her.
“Will you be staying on
this ship?” she growled. Sh’lok looked into her eyes and nodded for her to
continue. “Pa’ram will be staying as well.”
“Then I think we will
stay.”
“Good choice,” Nam’rah
squeezed his shoulder softly. “No ritual will take place. Kayla needs plenty of
rest. That means you keep your hands off.”
“Of course,” Sh’lok purred.
“Kayla, my mate.”
Nam’rah chuckled softly.
“Words I never thought I’d hear you say. What you have to offer I knew no
female Yautja could ever give you. Now all of my older offspring have mates. I
expect plenty of grandkids.” She walked away and started talking to a few
guards.
Kayla woke up slowly.
Everything was a slight haze to her. She frowned and tried to look around.
“Just relax,” Sh’lok purred. “Pahel gave you a sedative. You’re in our
quarters.”
“Our?” she whispered
softly. Kayla chuckled and Sh’lok trilled softly.
Sh’lok held her closer to
his body. “You are mine now,” he growled in her ear. “I am so sorry for
arriving late.” He explained to her everything that happened between him and
Kul’vir.
Kayla turned to look at
him. “Why was he being so irrational?”
“Irrational
no. Jealous,
very. I don’t understand why.” He moved Kayla’s hair from her face. “You
have been sleep for two days. Do you wish for me to bathe you?”
Kayla shook her head no as
she sat up. “Shit, what did he give me?” She groaned. “I felt better a couple
of days ago. Where’s Su’tara?”
“He wanted you to sleep,”
he sighed as he picked her up and carried her to the bathroom. “Su’tara will be
with Nam’rah for a while.” Sh’lok took off her dress before placing her in the
warm water. She closed her eyes and held onto his neck. Sh’lok told her of the
different weapons they acquired and that they would be back in space soon.
“I will miss this planet,”
she smiled.
“We will be back in a
hundred years,” he said as if it was no big deal.
“That’s an ooman lifespan
if we’re lucky.”
“You have not aged since
you’ve been here,” he looked at her carefully. “Your eyelash count keeps changing,
but that’s it.” Kayla leaned her had back against his chest and told him about Lex and Scar. “And she’s completely ooman? Your father knew
her?”
“Yes.”
“They never mentioned
having an ooman on board whenever I docked on their ship.” Kayla turned to look
at him. “We get along well with them.”
“This clan doesn’t get
along well with others?” Kayla stretched before standing up and getting out the
water.
“No. We are not the
friendliest bunch of Yautja’s,” he laughed. “Which is why I
don’t understand why Kul’vir didn’t kill you.” Kayla looked at him for a
moment and turned away. “I promise I will say nothing.” Kayla told him
everything that happened as she slowly got dressed.
“So Maha’vin marked you as
a joke? I thought you wanted to be marked.”
“He didn’t like me much,
but I helped his nephew,” Kayla explained as she ate a piece of fruit. “I later
found out that he had an option. I wasn’t yet part of your clan, so he didn’t
have to mark me. I know you are angry with Kul’vir, but don’t use my words as a
weapon.”
“Kul’vir is like a little
annoying brother to me,” Sh’lok clicked his mandibles softly. He picked up a
piece of meat making Kayla eat. She growled in protest as she ate, making
Sh’lok laugh. “We have argued before. We will work through it.” Kayla walked to
the window when the ship started to shake.
“I didn’t get a chance to
say goodbye to Su’tara,” Kayla spoke softly.
“Kayla,” Stef’na walked
over to her and gave her a hug. “Are you feeling well?”
“I’m better,” she smiled.
Stef’na looked at Sh’lok and
clicked her mandibles softly. “Hello Sh’lok.”
“Hello Stef’na,” he purred.
Kayla tried not to laugh, but she couldn’t help it.
Stef’na noticed how close
Sh’lok stood to Kayla. She tilted her head to the side. “Where is Pa’ram? Is he
not your mate?”
“Sh’lok is my mate
Stef’na,” Kayla smiled. “Didn’t Kul’vir tell you anything?” Kul’vir walked up
to them as he stared at Sh’lok. Stef’na punched Kul’vir’s shoulder.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
she argued. “What the hell is going on?” Kayla had never seen Stef’na so angry.
Kul’vir emitted a low growl. Kayla pulled her away so she could fill her in on
everything.
“We need to talk Kul’vir,”
Sh’lok stared at him. He looked over at Kayla and Stef’na. She playfully pushed
Kayla’s arm, but it made Kayla stumble back a bit. Sh’lok chuckled before
turning his attention back to Kul’vir.
“One mate for the rest of
your life Sh’lok,” he growled. “Do you really think you can do that?”
“If not I can always take
on four more,” Sh’lok tried to joke but he noticed it made Kul’vir angrier. “We
need to put our differences aside Kul’vir and kill Pa’ram.”
“Why,” Kul’vir walked
closer to him. “He injured your mate. I’m sure you can handle him on your own.”
“Kayla was pregnant with
your child,” he said in a low tone. “Again.” Kul’vir’s
anger turned into confusion.
“Kayla was expecting?”
Kul’vir thought about how she started to fall to the floor during the meeting.
“Since I was late to a
meeting Kayla had to fight him,” Sh’lok growled. “When she wasn’t looking he
kicked her in the stomach. I will deal with you later for causing me to be
late. For now I need to deal with him. Where is he?”
Sh’lok noticed the anger
return to Kul’vir’s eyes. “Give him a few weeks,” he said calmly. “Let him
think everything is ok and we will give him a slow death together. After that
we will deal with each other.” Kul’vir looked at Sh’lok and shook his shoulder.
“Until then…”
“Until then,” Sh’lok shook
his shoulder in return. “Sharpen up on your hand to hand combat. We haven’t
fought in years and it’s about time.”
“I agree,” Kul’vir growled.
The last time he fought Sh’lok it was for weapons. They declared it a draw
after Ak’hil got scared and ran to get several guards to break them up. Both
were restricted to their quarters for over a month. Before that, they were
children and it was over a toy. Ak’hil ran and told then as well. They were
both severely punished. After each brawl they ate dinner together in the
medical lab to discuss their issues.
“Don’t tell Ak’hil,” they
said in unison.
“Well, I think I will go
and break the hearts of half the females on the ship,” Stef’na teased. “They
all lost their play mate.”
Sh’lok laughed, as he held
Kayla’s hand. He pulled her closer and held her tenderly by the waist.
“Maybe now they will
actually take on a mate instead of holding onto the thought of being with
Sh’lok,” Kul’vir said sarcastically. Unlike the females Sh’lok caught on to his
sarcasm.
“Soon my friend,” he
reminded him. “Until then Kul’vir.”
“My apologies,” Kul’vir
said softly. Kayla and Stef’na looked at both of them.
“Well, your schedule will
be full soon Sh’lok,” Stef’na laughed.
“Why?” Kayla looked at her.
“There’s a few rituals
scheduled,” she explained. “Females will be pleased to know he can prepare them
now.” Kul’vir growled in annoyance. Stef’na laughed at him. “You
too Kul’vir.”
“Let’s go,” he mumbled
grabbing her hand. He looked at Sh’lok. “I will contact you.” He looked at
Kayla and nodded before dragging Stef’na out the room.
“Bye Sh’lok,” Stef’na sang
as she left.
“Bye Stef’na,” he purred.
When the doors closed Kayla
started to laugh. “I think your biggest admirer just left the room.”
Sh’lok looked down at her.
“I was hoping that was you.”
“I admire more than your
scent,” Kayla replied. Sh’lok lifted her up to eye level and Kayla held him
tight. After a moment she pulled away from him.
“What’s wrong?”
“Are you angry with me?”
Kayla questioned softly stepping away from him.
“I don’t want to arouse
you,” he tried to explain his bitter scent. “I want you to heal a few more days
and I’m not leaving your side until you do.” Kayla looked at him carefully.
“It’s easy for me to change my scent if I really want to.” She nodded her head.
Sh’lok stayed with her
until she begged him to get out and go sparring. Kul’vir was practicing hand to
hand combat with Ak’hil. They looked at each other and nodded. Though Ak’hil
asked him to stay Sh’lok thought it was best to spar in another room. His
father was sparring with a few other warriors. When Aa’rth won the first round
he walked over to Sh’lok and shook his shoulder roughly.
“My boy,” he said proudly
with a chuckle.
Sh’lok had never seen him
act so proud. He even sparred with him. His father never liked to fight him.
Sh’lok thought it was the fear of him losing to his son. Aa’rth wanted to eat
lunch together, but Sh’lok declined his invitation. “I have to get back to
Kayla,” Sh’lok tried to explain.
“You are rushing off to see
the same female?” an older Yautja joked. “Maybe I should taste this ooman.”
Sh’lok growled at him in warning.
“Kayla is Sh’lok’s mate,”
Aa’rth said proudly. The Yautja immediately apologized before Sh’lok walked out
the room.
“Sh’lok,” a female walked
up to him. He remembered mating with her before. “I need to be prepared and
breed. Will you help me?” She stepped closer hoping her scent would entice him.
Sh’lok held her waist as he pushed her back softly. Kul’vir walked past them.
“I will prepare you, but I
have a mate now,” he explained. “Kayla is my mate. I cannot mate with you.”
“Stef’na was telling the truth?”
she started to look upset. When Sh’lok walked away another female stopped him
when he reached the elevator with the same problem. Sh’lok sighed and told her
the same thing. He laughed when the elevator doors closed. Sh’lok couldn’t go
through this every day. He went to Nam’rah to explain the situation before
retiring to his quarters. After laughing about his situation she agreed to put
a stop to it. Kul’vir was walking out and Kayla was standing next to the door
when Sh’lok arrived at their quarters. Sh’lok tilted his head to the side as he
looked at his friend. Kul’vir nodded his head before walking past him. Sh’lok
watched him walk away before walking in.
”It hasn’t been but a day
and I already miss you,” he growled softly. He held her waist, pulling her
close to his body and growled near her ear.
Kayla pulled away and
stared at him for a moment before walking towards the bedroom. “Kul’vir told me
about the females today,” Sh’lok quickly turned her around. “Sh’lok...
“Don’t you dare ask me,” he
growled a warning to her. Kayla could tell her words upset him. His eyes grew
dark and he started to breathe harder. “Look at me Kayla. Answer your own
question.”
She stared at him a moment.
Sh’lok tilted his head to the side as he held her arm. Kayla shook her head no.
Sh’lok slowly released her arm, massaging the area he was gripping. “How did
they take the rejection?”
“Fairly
well.”
“Kul’vir, I don’t
understand him,” Kayla sat on the bed. “I’m sorry. Kul’vir is my friend and I
automatically took his word...” Nam’rah’s voice came over the loud speaker.
“This is Nam’rah,” she
spoke in a stern voice. “Sh’lok is now mated with Kayla. Unless you need to be
prepared, leave him alone. No ritual is scheduled. That is all.”
They looked at one another
before laughing. Sh’lok got on his knees in between her legs. “Would you ever
take on a second mate?”
“Would you want me to?” he
answered quickly. Sh’lok squeezed on her firm thighs before touching her face.
His body vibrated for her. Kayla shook her head no as his warm hand stroked her
cheek. “Then never ask me again.” Sh’lok stared at her as he pulled her dress
away from the top of her body. He growled as he looked down at her exposed
breast and back up again.
“Will you spar with me at
night?” Kayla smiled. “Of course if someone is watching Su’tara.”
“It’s not a breeder’s way,”
he reminded her with a sigh. Sh’lok squeezed on her breast but noticed the
slight disappointment in her face. “But I can never say no to you. If you wish
to spar I understand, but only if you’re not expecting a child.”
“Agreed,” Kayla smiled as
she kissed him on the cheek. He felt the tingle of her kiss. It felt odd to him
every time she kissed him, but he craved her lips on his body.
“Also, Su’tara will start
to ask questions about her father.” Kayla could feel his nails gently scraping
her back. “What do you wish for her to call me?”
“What do you think?” Kayla
answered. She bit her lip as she awaited his answer. Sh’lok slowly tapped his
chest three times before giving her a nod. Kayla reached for his clinched fist,
kissing on his knuckles before gently biting on his shoulder.
Sh’lok could smell her
scent getting stronger. His hand slowly went back around her waist and he
pulled her closer to the edge of the bed. He growled before ripping her dress
off with his mandibles. Kayla gasped from his roughness. Kayla hadn’t smelled
him since the meeting. His scent was so strong Kayla shook from anticipation.
“Do you feel ok?” he
groaned nipping on her breast. He sucked
her nipple into his mouth and Kayla moaned loudly.
“Fine, I’m fine,” she
managed to finally say. Sh’lok purred as he wrapped his other arm around her.
Kayla leaned her head back, letting out a loud moan. She craved him. Kayla
wanted to feel him inside her no matter how painful it was in the beginning.
She wanted Sh’lok’s body to smother hers. Kayla groaned as his tongue tickled
in between her legs before sliding inside her. “No. stop.”
“Am I hurting you?” he
questioned in a panic once he pulled away from her.
Kayla shook her head no.
“I, I can’t wait, “Kayla tried pulling him closer. “Sh’lok please, I want you
now.”
“I have to shower,” he
stammered as he stood up.
“No,” Kayla barked. She
grabbed his hand, pulling him close to her body. His sweat from sparring made
his scent stronger. Sh’lok was on top of her looking down. Kayla’s urgency to
mate made him growl in pleasure. She tried to remove his cloth, but her hands
were shaking.
Sh’lok growled as he ripped
his cloth off and positioned himself in between her legs. Kayla trembled as the
tip pushed in easily. They moaned loudly in unison. Slowly he went into Kayla’s
body. Each inch caused her to moan louder. Sh’lok looked down as his body
disappeared inside of Kayla’s. The sight caused him to roar before pulling out
and pushing himself back in.
“You feel incredible,” he
whispered in her ear. Sh’lok brushed his chest across her hardened nipples. He
increased his pace on Kayla until her body shook from her orgasm. He held still
as he listened and watched her scream. Sh’lok groaned from the sight as he
watched her look in between her legs as if something was attacking her.
Kayla looked up into his
serene eyes and pulled him closer. For that moment she wished she could kiss
him the way she wanted to, but it wasn’t possible. She rubbed her sweaty cheek
hard against his as they both moaned loudly together. Kayla twirled several of
his locks in her hand before roughly pulling his head back. She started to bite
on his neck and shoulder. He roared in pleasure.
Sh’lok never let a female
bite him the way Kayla did. Being an unmated male he didn’t like the marks. As
Kayla bit him it validated something deep inside. She will be his for the rest
of their lives. His body vibrated from the thought and his nearing orgasm. Kayla could feel it. She placed her hand on
his chest. My drum, she thought as he came deep inside her. She could
feel the extraordinary amount of liquid he shot into her body. The tingling
sensation caused a loud moan to escape her lips. Sh’lok tried to catch his breath as they
stared at one another. “What’s wrong?”
Sh’lok noticed her eyes were watery.
“I want to give you a
baby,” she whispered as she felt on her stomach. For the first time since the
miscarriage, she felt empty.
“You have,” Sh’lok purred
as he wiped her perspiration away from her face. “Her name is Su’tara.”
“You know what I mean,”
Kayla smiled.
“Oh Kayla,” he groaned as
he felt himself get hard again. He was halfway out of her body but pushed in
deeper. “You will.”
Sh’lok didn’t leave their
quarters for several days. He wanted to lavish Kayla’s body in every position
he could possibly think of. He took her sparring as promised and every time
they ended up mating in one of the smaller sparring rooms. Smelling her sweat
drove him crazy.
They sat down and explained
everything to Su’tara. Kayla wasn’t quite sure if she completely understood,
but Su’tara tilted her head to the side and trilled softly. She was just happy to
have a father like everyone else. When she purred against Sh’lok’s cheek he
laughed and held her close.
“I think if we keep this up
I will kill you,” Sh’lok teased as he scooped Kayla up in his arms. He tried to
catch his breath as he stared at her. “I think we’ve mated in this sparring
room more so than the bedroom.”
She wrapped her arms around
his neck. “Am I wearing you out yet?”
He laughed at her before
looking up. Pa’ram watched both of them. “And to think I thought you were back
up to your old ways Sh’lok,” he said sarcastically as he watched him carry
Kayla out the room.
Sh’lok remained calm, but
he felt Kayla’s anger rising. Sh’lok stroked Kayla’s arm gently. He nodded to
Pa’ram before leaving the room.
“His smug laugh sends
chills through my body,” Kayla said as the elevator doors closed. She
remembered when she fought him and how he kicked her. Kayla caught herself
holding her stomach. Sh’lok watched her actions and held her close.
“Where are you going?” Kayla
watched Sh’lok head in another direction as they walked off the elevator.
“To speak with Kul’vir,” he
turned to look at her and nodded, “I will be with you in a moment.” Sh’lok’s
anger started to rise as he thought of Pa’ram’s words.
Kul’vir opened the door and
glared at his angry friend. “Are we ready?”
“It’s been a few weeks and
he practices alone at night,” Sh’lok growled.
“I will see you tomorrow
night then,” Kul’vir said before closing the door.
Sh’lok denied Kayla sex for
the first time that night and morning. She left him alone in his thoughts as
she took Su’tara to play.
“You look bigger every
time,” Kayla joked with Stef’na as she watched her eat raw meat. Kayla picked
up a piece and ate it. Stef’na shrilled with delight.
“Are you expecting?” She
asked as Kayla sat next to her.
“No I don’t think so,” she
sighed. “We have fun trying.”
“It’s Sh’lok, of course you
do,” one of the females teased.
“Kayla was he acting
strange today?” Stef’na questioned once the female left to check on the kids.
“Not talking much. Sleeping a little longer? Sharpening his talons, like he is
about to go into battle?”
“Yes,” Kayla tilted her
head to the side. “Kul’vir as well?”
“Something is not right
with those two,” Stef’na growled. “They are up to something.”
Sh’lok crept slowly out of
bed. Kayla slept soundly. Usually when she falls asleep she doesn’t wake up
until he wakes her with small nips or a loud purr. Sh’lok went to his trophy
room and to the wall where he kept his weapons. He didn’t need many. Just one, after
all it was only Pa’ram. He walked out the room and to the elevators where
Kul’vir awaited him. They shook each others shoulder before entering the
elevator.
“After this it’s you and
me,” Sh’lok reminded him.
“I’m ready,” Kul’vir
growled.
They walked into the
sparring room to find Pa’ram practicing alone. Kul’vir locked the door before
they attacked him.
Kayla woke up to Stef’na
shaking her. “What’s wrong?” Kayla sat up quickly and looked around for Sh’lok.
“I think they are up to
something,” Stef’na said in a panic. “Kul’vir is missing. Where is Sh’lok?”
Kayla started to get
dressed. “Watch the kids and I will find them…”
“No,” Stef’na snapped. “We
will go together. The kids will remain sleeping. Kayla, I don’t have a good
feeling about this.” They both looked at each other before leaving the
quarters.
Kul’vir and Sh’lok watched
as Pa’ram slowly bled to death. Both were heaving from the fight. They never
fought him together. That was considered dishonorable, two against one, but
they did take turns fighting him. They walked into the smaller sparring room
and locked the door. “You're next,” Sh’lok snarled as they dropped their
weapons and charged at one another.
“The doors are locked,”
Kayla said in a frantic as she banged on the door to the sparring hall. They
checked two other sparring halls before coming to that one.
“What are you doing here?”
A guard growled at them.
“Open this door,” Stef’na
hissed. “Now!” Ignoring her threat he walked to the door slowly and pressed a
button. It wouldn’t open. He tilted his head to the side.
“This door shouldn’t be
locked,” he mumbled as he punched in a series of codes to override the lock.
When it opened they gasped to see Pa’ram’s body lying in a pool of blood.
“Go get help!” Kayla ran to
the door where she heard a series of loud thumps. It too was locked. Stef’na
and Kayla jumped as someone’s body hit the door so hard it pushed the double
metal doors outwards.
“Sh’lok!” Kayla screamed.
She and Stef’na banged on the door as Kul’vir and Sh’lok snarled and roared at
each other in between blows. Stef’na ran to a com to call Nam’rah.
“Kayla, belongs, to, me!”
Sh’lok pounded on Kul’vir’s face with each word. Kul’vir kicked him off only to
land on top of Sh’lok.
“I know this, but you will
never be good enough for her!” he roared after choking Sh’lok. He punched
Kul’vir in the stomach and jumped up.
“It’s you who’s not good
enough boy,” Sh’lok snarled. “She doesn’t want you and it’s driving you crazy.
You are mad because I have what you always wanted. Kayla and your daughter!”
Kul’vir lunged at him. Sh’lok moved on time to punch down on Kul’vir’s back,
sending him tumbling to the blood covered floor. They didn’t use their claws but
they both agreed to use their talons. Both were weak from the blood loss and
neither one was giving up until the other one admitted defeat or passed out
from the blows. Sh’lok kicked him in anger against the door. Sh’lok thought he
heard Kayla scream his name. The moment he was caught off guard was Kul’vir’s
chance to attack again. With broken ribs he hit Sh’lok in the face so hard it
broke his lower mandible. In a blind rage Sh’lok broke Kul’vir’s arm.
Several guards appeared
with Nam’rah and Sa’tesh. The door was heavily damaged so none of the override
commands worked. Nam’rah roared in frustration. “Why are they fighting each
other!” she growled looking at the two worried females.
“We do not know,” Stef’na
trembled. There was a terrible cry from the other side as a body was thrown
against the wall. Everyone felt the shake of the blow.
“Get these doors open,”
Sa’tesh roared. There was silence from the other side for the first time. Kayla
covered her mouth as she thought about the worst. They killed each other. The
guards had to use plasma cannons to blast the wedged door. Ak’hil called in
medics as the smoked cleared. He ran over to Stef’na and Kayla. Other Yautja’s
started to walk into the sparring room to see Pa’ram lying on the floor. Sh’lok
and Kul’vir laid on the floor in their blood.
“No,” Kayla cried. She and
Stef’na tried to run inside but Ak’hil stopped them. Pahel ran in with his
medical team.
“They’re alive, but
barely,” he growled. “Get them to the lab now!”
Nam’rah covered her mouth
as she watched them carry out her sons. “Who knows the meaning of this?” She
roared. “Why in the hell would they try to kill each other?”
“I knew there was tension
between them,” Ak’hil said softly. “But I didn’t think they would have to fight
about it.” Ak’hil was angry because they chose not to tell him. “Why would they
kill Pa’ram?”
“That was obvious,” Nam’rah
growled. “He fought a pregnant woman.”
Sa’tesh looked at her then
at Kayla. Kayla gave him a slight nod. “Someone clean up this mess.”
“Let’s go,” Stef’na grabbed
Kayla’s arm as they quickly walked to the medical lab. Nam’rah caught up with
them.
They watched in silence as
several doctors stitched them both up. Kayla could barely recognize either one
of them. “My stupid boys,” Nam’rah said softly as she watched Pahel fix
Kul’vir’s arm.
Pahel walked over to them
as the other doctors continued their work. “They will be fine,” he assured
them. “Kul’vir has a few broken ribs and a broken arm. Sh’lok has a broken
mandible and a few cracked ribs. Neither one has any serious internal injuries,
but they both require a lot of stitches. There was also heavy blood loss. I
sedated them both. They will wake up in a few days.”
“Have they awakened at
all?” Nam’rah questioned. “Did they say why they fought each other?”
“The only thing they both
said was ‘who won’,” Pahel chuckled but no one laughed. “Yes, well please go
get some sleep and check on them in a few days. Oh, Stef’na, please sit so I
can check you. I don’t want the baby to be stressed over this.” Stef’na sat
down slowly as he scanned over her stomach. “The baby is fine.” Pahel looked
over at Kayla.
“I’m not pregnant,” she
announced. Pahel ran his tests anyway.
He shook his head in
disbelief. “Yes you are. You are so fertile. A great asset to our clan.”
“Well at least we have some
good news tonight,” Nam’rah shook her shoulder softly and Stef’na gave her a
hug.
“It’s a boy, if you were
wondering,” Pahel added. Kayla was too concerned for Sh’lok to be happy. She
nodded at Pahel as Stef’na held her hand. Kayla could see the worried look in
her eyes as well. They both looked back at their mates before leaving.
“Will you be ok?” Kayla
asked her softly as they stepped off the elevator. Stef’na growled a yawn
before answering.
“I will be fine, but I think I will spend time
with Kul’vir just in case he wakes up so he can see my hand slapping him.”
“I agree,” Kayla said
getting angry. “I don’t understand what had happened Stef’na.”
“No matter what, we will
not let their stupidity break our friendship,” she gave Kayla a hug before
walking away. “Get some rest Kayla, we are having babies.”
Kayla walked into their
quarters completely exhausted. She went directly to Su’tara’s room. She was
still sound asleep. Sometimes Kayla felt the urge to just wake her daughter so
she could hold her, but tonight she looked so peaceful. She closed her door and
sighed. Kayla finally fell asleep in the foyer on the pillows.
Stef’na and Kayla took
turns going to the medical lab and waiting for both of them to wake up. She
noticed how their wounds heal so quickly. Kayla thought Sh’lok’s mandible was
growing back. She sat in between both of them.
“Kayla,” Sh’lok said
softly. He opened his eyes and looked at her. Seeing how angry she was he
thought about asking Pahel for something to knock him back out.
“Stupid,” she replied as if
it was his first name. Stef’na walked in to see Sh’lok moved.
“Are they awake?” she
questioned.
“This one is,” Kayla
huffed. “What the hell is wrong with you Sh’lok?”
“A broken mandible and a
few cracked ribs I think,” he tried to joke.
“Stef’na,” Kul’vir managed
to whisper.
“You idiot,” she growled.
“Why Kul’vir? Why did the two of you fight?”
“Who won?” Sh’lok
questioned.
“Neither one of you,”
Stef’na growled at him as well.
“Well who had the most
injuries?” Kul’vir questioned. Stef’na looked at him as if he lost his mind.
Her growl started to get louder.
“Why did the two of you
fight?” Kayla raised her voice at the both of them.
“That’s between Kul’vir and
me,” Sh’lok said loud enough for Kul’vir to hear. “We worked out our
differences.”
“Nam’rah is confining you
both to your rooms for a month,” Kayla replied.
“But Kayla and I decided
that was too easy for the both of you,” Stef’na added. “So you two will be
staying in Kayla’s quarters and Kayla and I will stay together.”
“For a month?” Kul’vir
questioned. “The two of you don’t have the right to make such a decision.”
“Your mother does,” Kayla
chimed in. “She agrees." Kayla looked at Sh’lok and shook her head in
disbelief.
Sh’lok had never seen that
look of disappointment on her face before. He started to regret fighting with
Kul’vir. He tried to smell her scent but she was bitter. “Do not be angry with
me,” he purred.
Kayla stood up to walk out
with Stef’na. She stopped by the com and called Nam’rah to let her know they
were both awake. “Shit,” Sh’lok mumbled.
Kul’vir and Sh’lok didn’t
say anything for a while. “I think they’re mad at us,” Kul’vir said softly.
“I think so,” Sh’lok turned
to look at him. “Tonight over dinner we will talk.”
Kul’vir nodded.
They both tried to talk to
their mates before their confinement, but neither one would talk to them. Kayla
could smell Sh’lok every time she passed the room. For a moment she would feel
weak. Stef’na would laugh at her and push her along. The coms were taken out of
the room so Kayla didn’t talk to Sh’lok for a month. She started to wonder if
this was her punishment as well.
The guards outside of Kayla
and Sh’lok’s quarters bowed to Nam’rah before opening the door to her. She
wasn’t surprised to see them sitting across from one another talking quietly.
“Have you both come to your senses?”
Sh’lok looked over at
Kul’vir before talking. “We are fine Nam’rah.”
She sat across from them.
“Why did you two fight?”
“We’ve settled our
differences Mother,” Kul’vir spoke in a low tone.
“That wasn’t my question,”
she growled angrily at him. “A doctor is dead…”
“He deserved to die,”
Kul’vir barked.
“I know son, I know it was
your child Kayla lost,” Nam’rah sighed. “You two are like brothers. I thought
the last fight over weapons would be your last. Why now? Was it over Kayla? Did
you Kul’vir have something to do with Sh’lok being late for the meeting a while
ago?”
Kul’vir was about to speak
but Sh’lok interrupted him. “Kul’vir and I are close again.”
“I did not ask if you were close!”
Nam’rah roared at them. “Don’t you see? It doesn’t matter if you’re close or
not. You both are strong and another fight like this will end in someone’s
death!”
“We would never kill one
another,” Sh’lok interjected.
“Why did you two fight! I
want answers!” Kul’vir and Sh’lok looked at one another for a moment. Nam'rah
watched them. They didn’t say a word to each other, but their eyes did. They
both looked back at her before hunching their shoulders in unison. Nam’rah
roared in frustration. “You don’t want to tell me then fine! Tell each other
your secrets for another month.” When Nam’rah stood up they too stood as well.
“So we have to stay in here
for another month,” Kul’vir growled.
“Kayla is in heat,” Sh’lok
told her.
“Kayla will be fine,”
Nam’rah growled. “You both are to stay docked here for a year. No missions.”
They both growled at her, but Nam’rah snarled and roared, daring either one to
try and attack her. She knew they wouldn’t dare touch her, but she wanted them
to know she wasn’t afraid of a simple growl. “Would you like to make it two
years of no missions and three months in this room? Or, how about eta duties
for a year? Don’t test me boys. You will loose.”
“Mother,” Kul’vir was about
to say something. He couldn’t imagine not going on a hunt for another year.
Sh’lok pushed him. They stared at one another again and back to her.
“Fine,” she said softly as
she walked away. “I’ll see you next month.”
Stef'na went to answer the
com. When Kayla heard Nam’rah’s voice she walked over to the door. Nam’rah
looked at Kayla then Stef’na. “They are confined to their quarters for another
month,” she growled angrily.
“But why?” Kayla
questioned.
“Because I said so,”
Nam’rah barked at her. “They refuse to tell me why they were fighting so they
can talk among each other for another month.” She stormed out the room. Stef’na
and Kayla looked at each other for a moment.
“Can you stand being around
me for another month?” Kayla tried to joke.
Stef’na trilled softly. “Of
course.”
Kayla and Su’tara walked
back to their quarters from the play area. Su’tara wore herself out from
playing in the play room with the others. Their confinement was lifted after
two months. Kayla was still angry with Sh’lok and though she wanted him badly
she couldn’t get over the fact of how childish he acted. When the doors to
their quarters opened he was standing there looking at her. Sh’lok noticed the
anger in her eyes suddenly went away once she looked at him for the first time
in two months.
“Father,” Su’tara ran over
to him. Kayla smiled as he held her tight before flipping her over and tickling
her side. He laughed along with her. He missed Su’tara. More importantly, he
missed being called father. Kayla noticed his mandible grew back as she watched
him playfully bite Su’tara’s head.
“Go prepare for bed and I
will be there shortly,” he purred to her. When she ran off his eyes went to
Kayla. Sh’lok walked closer to her, but Kayla stepped back and looked away. Her
body was against the wall. He closed in on her space, sniffing on her neck.
Kayla closed her eyes as she felt his warm breath on her neck. His scent was
strong. She finally looked into he deep, intense eyes.
“Kayla,” he groaned softly.
“I miss you.”
“Su’tara is waiting for
you,” Kayla said. She ducked under his arm to walk past him. Sh’lok reached out
and grabbed her arm. Kayla stopped, but refused to turn around. She could feel
his warm body on her back. His heavy purr vibrated throughout her body. Kayla
wanted to turn around and jump into his arms but instead she walked to the bedroom.
Sh’lok watched her. Her hips swayed as she walked. It had been two months and
he wanted to attack her. Sh’lok caught himself growling as he walked towards
their bedroom, but forgot Su’tara was waiting for him to tell her a story.
Kayla undressed and got
under the covers before Sh’lok came back in the room. She stared out the window
as the question of why popped in her head again. Sh’lok and Kul’vir refused to
tell Nam’rah and Sa’tesh why they fought each other. Even when they were
stripped from going on missions for a year they refused to talk. Kayla felt the
covers being pulled from her body.
“I miss you,” he growled
again. Sh’lok’s chest pressed against her back but he wanted more. He rolled
her over and grabbed her hair, making Kayla look into his eyes.
“Why,” Kayla finally said
to him. “He’s like a brother to you.”
“It’s a little childish, I
know, but he is not dead. I would never kill Kul’vir,” he tried to explain to
her as his cheek rubbed against hers. Sh’lok pulled her body closer. Though Kayla
was acting cold and aloof towards him he could sense her excitement and smell
her scent growing stronger in the air. He fought with himself as he tried not
to take it from her. He never forced himself on any female, but he had never
been over a month without it either.
“Sh’lok,” she moaned when
his tongue came into contact with her nipples. Kayla managed to push him away.
She got out of the bed and wrapped the sheet around her body. “When I saw you
lying there in a pool of blood, the only thing I could think was that I was I’m
losing another mate,” Kayla wiped her tears as he got out the bed and started
to approach her. “You were only thinking about yourself,” she cried as she hit
his chest. “Ga’gan left me before Su’tara was born…”
“I’m not Ga’gan,” he purred
softly as he tried to ease her fears.
“You can’t leave me before
the baby is born,” Kayla said softly.
“Baby?” he stammered. He
placed his hand on Kayla’s stomach. It wasn’t as soft as before. He clicked his
mandibles softly.
“Yes, a boy,” she whispered
looking at him. She tapped his chest three times before he started to laugh.
Sh’lok pulled her closer
and rubbed her cheek softly with his hand. His face registered confusion for a
moment before he spoke, “I love you.”
Kayla stared at him but
didn’t reply. She didn’t understand. “Your species is incapable of love between
mates,” Kayla shrugged her shoulders before turning to look out the window.
“Have you turned Yautja on
me?” he growled. “You are now so much like us you can’t say it back? Or is it
that you just don’t feel that way about me?”
“Do you know what love is?”
Kayla heard them refer to foods they love or weapons. They even praised and
loved their trophies, but never another mate.
“Love is what I see when I
look at you,” he purred in her ear. He felt on her stomach and rubbed it
gently. “Love is, knowing that you are carrying my child and you’re happy about
it. It’s a feeling better than killing on your greatest day. I know love.”
“I love you as well
Sh’lok,” Kayla smiled as he held her. That night Sh’lok made love to Kayla for
the first time. She had never seen him show more emotion during their mating
than he exhibited that night. It was a new experience for her. Sh’lok actually
turned the lights off. He closed his eyes and listened to what her body wanted
rather than watching her. If it weren’t for his mandibles and animal noises,
Kayla would think she was mating with an extremely large human who stayed erect
for hours. Sh’lok even held her afterwards.
As her body grew, Sh’lok
groaned with delight every time he saw her. His eyes would glow brightly
whenever he purred and the baby kicked in response. Kayla had never seen him so
happy behind closed doors. Around others he would act differently. He wasn’t as
touchy and laughter was out of the question. He still had an occasional snide
remark or two to others and would chuckle about it, but he only shared his
feelings and emotions with Kayla. Sh’lok continued to mate with her during her
pregnancy.
Stef’na had another boy.
Within a month she left her two sons with Kayla to watch so she could spend
time alone with Kul’vir. Sh’lok would watch her in amazement as she breastfed
Stef’na’s baby. Since she was due, her milk supply was abundant. Everything was
back to normal between Kul’vir and Sh’lok. They never told anyone why they
fought and they made it up to Ak’hil by giving him a weapon. From time to time
Sh’lok had a feeling that Kul’vir was still harboring ill feelings, but he
would shake them off once Kul’vir shook his shoulder.
“I’m next,” Sh’lok teased
as he watched her feed Kul’vir’s baby.
Kayla laughed at him.
“Stef’na is at it again.”
“Well Kul’vir should be
pleased,” Sh’lok teased. “I hope you are leaving enough for our child. He is
due.” Kayla laid Kul’vir’s heavy son down. At eight months he was a big baby.
Kayla laid back and sighed. Sh’lok noticed over the past few months how Kayla
would move slower and would tire easily. “Are you eating enough raw meat?”
“Yes,” she sighed as she
tried to get comfortable. Sh’lok sat next to her. He noticed the perspiration
on her face and wiped it away.
“The group I’m training is
going on their first hunt soon,” he chuckled. “I think they will all be
successful.” He watched Kayla grab on to her stomach. “Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I think your son is
ready to see you,” she tried to laugh.
“I will take Su’tara and
the baby over to Stef’na,” he said calmly. “Then I will be back to carry you to
the medical lab.” They looked at one another and started to laugh. Sh’lok was back within a minute. “Wait,” Kayla
barked before Sh’lok picked her up. She didn’t want to be touched as a sharp
pain went through her body.
“Fighting is so much
easier,” she groaned. “I can dislocate my shoulder, no problem. This is pain.”
Kayla tried to move on the medical bed but even breathing was painful.
“But it’s so much more
fun,” Sh’lok growled in her ear. He looked over at Pahel and Pahel nodded to
him. “Sleep Kayla.” Those were the last words she heard. Sh’lok watched as
Pahel cut her stomach to remove the baby.
“Does she know her blood is
green?” Sh’lok questioned softly.
“No, I don’t think so,”
Pahel mumbled before looking up at him. “If Kayla knew she would be in the
medical lab once a week for a checkup. Do you not pierce her skin during
mating?”
“No.” Sh’lok eyes opened
wide and his mandibles clicked softly as Pahel lifted the baby slowly from
Kayla’s stomach. “He’s…”
“Yes, he is,” Pahel stared
at the baby in amazement before looking at Sh’lok. “Let, let me clean him.” The
baby started to cry and Sh’lok smiled.
“My son,” he whispered to
himself before looking down at Kayla. Another doctor came over and started to
stitch her back up. Another one cleaned the area. Sh’lok stroked Kayla’s cheek
softly as he looked at her in amazement. He was in awe of what a female body
was capable of.
“She should awake any
second,” A doctor nodded to him. The doctor looked over at the baby and tilted
his head to the side before walking away. Sh’lok picked him up slowly. He was
tightly bundled in a silky lavender blanket. When Sh’lok purred the baby
immediately purred back. He started to laugh.
Kayla opened her eyes and
smiled. Sh’lok didn’t care who was watching. He held his baby proudly. Sh’lok
looked at Kayla as she leaned on her side. Sh’lok sat next to her. “How are you
Kayla?”
“Fine,” she said softly.
“Pahel’s medicine works like a miracle. I’m numb.” Kayla looked at Sh’lok with
slight concern. “Is he ok?”
“He’s ok,” Sh’lok laughed.
He laid the baby down in Kayla’s arms.
Her mouth opened in
confusion as she stared at the baby. “I don’t understand.” He opened his eyes
and they were brighter than Sh’lok’s when he was happy. “His eyes are
beautiful.” The baby started to cry.
“Male genes are far
stronger than the females,” Pahel explained. “Maybe that’s why he looks
completely Yautja.” Kayla unwrapped the blanket to
look at the baby’s feet and hands.
“I did the same thing,”
Sh’lok trilled. “He has no trace of you. Is that ok?”
“Of course,” Kayla laughed.
“He is still my baby.”
“Shra’van,” Sh’lok purred
again and laughed as the baby purred in return. “My son. He will be a leader
someday.” He tapped his chest three times. Kayla couldn’t help but to cry.
“That is one emotional
Yautja,” Pahel mumbled to Nam’rah as they watched them from a distance.
“He always has been Pahel,”
she purred as she clicked her mandibles. “You and I both knew that. With
something as great as having a baby, he can’t hide his emotions.” Nam’rah
tilted her head to the side as she watched in horror. “What is he doing?”
“He’s wiping the water from
his eyes,” Pahel watched in amazement.
“Where are the other
doctors?” Nam’rah panicked. “No one must see this.”
“They have already left,”
Pahel patted her hand. “He would make a great leader Nam’rah.”
She looked at Pahel
carefully and waited for him to continue. “He is someone who will listen and
judge with his emotions. He is violent when he has to be and tender, like now.
I’m sure in their quarters he’s completely different. I had never seen another
Yautja like him. If I weren’t a doctor I would kill him for his emotional
outburst, but as a doctor his psyche is deeply intriguing.”
Pahel allowed them to
return to their quarters after a day. Sh’lok didn’t train for a couple of
weeks. He didn’t want to leave his child for a moment.
“We need the technology
that the Jafren species have,” Sa’tesh growled. He
looked over at the warriors he always confided in. “It will set us apart from
every clan there is and protect our planet from any attacks.”
“They will not share with
us Sa’tesh,” Mo’gar growled in annoyance. “We can’t kill them. Their planet has
the best defense I have ever seen.”
“And surly they think we
are salvage,” Aa’rth added. “They don’t understand our need to hunt. We will
have to act peaceful.” The peaceful species have been denying the Yautja’s
request to make peace with them for hundreds of centuries. The Jafren knew of the Yautja’s evil ways against other species
and themselves. They feared the Yautja’s would use their technology against
them eventually. Though they were polite and always spoke with the softest of
tones in the Yautja language the answer was still very clear. Until they
stopped hunting other species they would never share any of their technology.
“That’s not good enough,”
Sa’tesh growled in annoyance. “Acting is not good enough. We will have to prove
it. I spoke of this with other elders on the planet. Still, there is no
answer.”
Sh’lok walked in looking
for his father as the men continued to speak. Sh’lok heard them complain about
this before, but nothing was ever resolved. “I don’t mean to interrupt,” Sh’lok
spoke softly as he nodded to everyone. Sh’lok turned around to see Nam’rah walk
in.
“Have either of you heard
of a closed meeting?” Sa’tesh growled.
“You must be discussing the
Jafren,” Nam’rah chuckled. “Just let it go. We will
never be good enough for them.”
“How is my beautiful
grandson?” Aa’rth trilled as he walked closer to Sh’lok.
“He is doing well,” Sh’lok
nodded.
They all started talking
among one another until Sh’lok spoke. “I have a solution.”
“My boy has the answer to
the question that we haven’t been able to answer for centuries?” Aa’rth
chuckled. “Ok boy, let’s hear it.”
“Show them Kayla.” The room
went silent and Sh’lok laughed to himself before he continued. “They want proof
that you’re peaceful. Send Kayla, Su’tara and Shra’van over not as a mere
breeder on your ship but a leader with interspecies children. Teach her the
language of the elders and how to communicate with them. The Jafren sees us with an ooman as one of our leaders they
will have to assume we changed our ways. They will only share with us and no
other clan.”
No one said anything for a
while. They looked at one another. “That can work,” Nam’rah said breaking the
silence.
“I have to agree,” Sa’tesh
mumbled as he thought of the possibilities. He looked up at Sh’lok and nodded.
“But Kayla mentioned to me that she doesn’t know how to read in our language.
They would expect her to know this.”
“It will take us a few
years,” Aa’rth nodded. “Ooman’s learn at a slow pace. She will be taught a
language she shouldn’t know.”
“Sh’lok will be taught as
well,” Nam’rah said walking over. “He and Kayla should talk to the Jafren. They should act as leaders on the other ship. Ne’el
will show them everything…”
“Why, do you not see Ne’el
as a good choice?” Sa’tesh questioned. “Why are you in here discussing this
among us?”
“Ne’el is hot headed like
you,” Nam’rah growled. “And I’m here because I’m your mate.” He growled at her
making Nam’rah trill softly. “We have one chance at this. Send the two who understand
emotions the most. They will laugh with them and share stories. Sa’tesh this is
our chance.” Nam’rah thought of what Pahel said to her when they watched Sh’lok
and Kayla together.
Sa’tesh walked over to
Sh’lok and looked at him carefully. The young man always reminded him of a
great leader. As they stared at one another not once did Sh’lok blink. He was stronger and better than any warrior his age,
mentally and physically. Sa’tesh shook his shoulder softly.
“This will take many years
to prepare perfectly and I think you are up to it,” he said softly. “Your
family will act as leaders and you will change our clan forever.”
“I’m honored,” Sh’lok spoke
in return. “I will not let our clan down.”
“If everything works well,
I will make you leader of the new ship and the youngest elder any clan have
ever seen.”
Kul’vir grew angry each
second he watched his father praise Sh’lok. He listened to everything at the
door. He vowed to himself as he walked over and shook Sh’lok’s shoulder in
praise, that he would see his plan blow up in his face. He didn’t care how long
it took; he would see his former friend go down.
