It was night time. Only Hobbs and Anna were working late besides security. Most people had already gone home. They seemed to enjoy the quietness. She didn't have a whole lot more to do. Time seemed like it lingered on through the evening. Anna started walking out of the lab closing everything up. There was a sound of someone typing. She felt a little hesitant to look even further. Letting her instincts kick in, she walked towards the noise.
Hobbs came out of his office seeing her stand there. Anna stayed silent directing him to the noise she was hearing. He moved slowly over to where the sound of typing was coming from. Hobbs went up behind him figuring he wasn't someone that belonged here. The man was located in a cube. It was the same man Anna saw at the bar. Hobbs gestured her to stay where she was.
"Can you give me one good reason why I shouldn't arrest you for breaking an entry and hacking into police files?" Hobbs spoke coming up behind him.
"Well if it isn't Agent Hobbs. You have something I want." His tone was calm. Anna took a few steps forward to get a glimpse of the man that Hobbs was talking to. It was the man she saw at the bar last night.
"Didn't we meet this way before?" he asked him. Instead of answering, he got up punching Hobbs across the face hard enough to knock over a cubical near by. Hobbs got up throwing the guy onto a table. This fight lasted a good ten minutes. Anna stayed back moving away when they came her direction. Things were being broken and glass was being shattered. He grabbed Hobbs throwing him. He hit his head hard on the wall knocking him out.
The man turned to look at Anna sitting on the floor. She was scared not sure what he was going to do. "We meet again," he said walking towards her. For some reason, she looked familiar to him. He tried thinking back of all the people he had met from his past in the military.
"Yeah, now you talk to me," she said sarcastically. Before he could do anything, Hobbs got up feeling a little out of it. He pulled out his gun shooting at him. Shaw dodge his shots. Hobbs went after him. Anna was left there alone for a moment. A few minutes past and Hobbs came back into the room. "Anna, you ok?" he called out to her.
"I'm fine," she said getting up. He came over to her helping her up. "Who was that?"
"That was big brother Shaw." she nodded a little shaken up. Looking at her watch, it was only ten at night. Still, it really irritated her not being able to figure out how that name sounded so familiar.
Hobbs made some calls having people come to the office to clean up. He had her go ahead and take the rest of the night off. Anna decided to head to the bar seeing if any of her friends were around. It was a short walk down the street from the police station. As she walked in, people were scattered everywhere. She started being a little cautious of her surroundings after what happened at work.
Christian noticed her as he was talking to a few other off duty cops. "Anna." he called out.
"Hey, it's nice to run into someone I know. I wasn't sure who I would run into," He walked up to her holding his beer.
"Hobbs let you off early?" he said jokingly. She gave him a serious look. His expression changed to worrisome. "What happened?"
"Hobbs and I were working. A man by the name of Shaw went after him. He found him in one of the cubicles hacking into the computers. Shaw could have went after me but didn't. He escaped, but the place is a mess." She looked over at the entrance of the bar noticing Shaw coming in the door.
"What?" Christian asked her. He turned to look to see who she was looking at. Shaw was dressed in a black leather jacket and jeans.
"That's him." Quickly, she turned away hoping he wouldn't notice her. Christian stayed close to her. She had a felt a little constrained with him here. Something in her gut was telling her he was watching her. Christian led her to his table with a group of guys. There was about four of them sitting there. He introduced me to them.
"I'm going to grab a drink." Anna started to get up. Christian was about to get up and follow. She had him sit back down. "I'll be fine." she assured him, he sat back down watching her as she went to the bar. There were a few people ahead of her. Anna was stuck waiting. Shaw came up beside her keeping his distance. She was starting to feel agitated wishing this bartender would hurry up.
"Tell me something. How did you end up working for Hobbs?" It almost shocked her seeing he even spoke to her. His tone was calm.
"You know, it's funny how I tried talking to you. Now all of a sudden, you want to talk? I think your actions can be a little misleading." The bartender came up to her. She got her beer.
"Normally, you would have been warned to stay away. At least be appreciative that I brought your keys back. I don't normally do that for anyone." As he got a good look at her, he remembered her. He knew her father when he was stationed there for two years. Sometimes, he would bring her along on the weekends. He knew her as the girl who was understanding and sweet. They would make small conversation if not more depending on what was going on. He developed some sort of attraction to her. She graduated high school leaving when she was nineteen. There was at least a ten year age difference between the both of them. When she had left, he figured it was only a small infatuation.
"I said thank you. I guess I should be glad I didn't get a warning." She said walking away. He watched her as she sat at the table. She stayed quiet listening to the guys talk. It felt like it wasn't anything different than what her friends talked about. Now it was in a guys perspective.
Her phone had rang seeing Hobbs calling her. "Hello?" she said answering the phone.
"You ok?"
"Yeah, i'm at the bar not too far from the police station. Christian is here. We happened to run into each other. Are you ok?" she asked a little worried.
"I'm fine, i'll see you tomorrow." They hung up with each other keeping the conversation brief. It was nice of him to call and check on her. She appreciated that he made sure she was ok.
"I'm going to head out. You guys have a good night," she said getting tired. Anna went up to the bar to pay for her bottle of beer. "How much do I owe you?"
"It's covered, the guy in the leather jacket next to you paid." She looked around seeing he was no where to be found. Anna left the bar . Her car was parked not too far away. The walk was short. She got in noticing a car parked behind hers, but a little further away. It was a black Audi. Looking in her rear view mirror made it difficult to see with the tinted windows.
She turned the engine on leaving the parking lot. It didn't take her long to get to the parking garage. It looked like most people were out. There weren't as many cars parked in there for once. She got out of the car heading in the building. Today was eventful enough for her. There was no point in getting excited for the weekend. With the amount of hours, it made her feel drained. Sleep was calling her as tired as she was. It didn't take her long to throw on pajamas and head to sleep.
Night always seemed to leave quickly as she slept. The phone beeped waking her up. It was a text from Hobbs. "When are you due in?" Anna texted him back letting him know she was suppose to be in at one. It was about nine-thirty when she looked at the clock.
Slowly, she rolled out of bed. She did wonder how Hobbs ended up getting her number. Then she remembered they had a list of all the employees and contact numbers on a sheet hanging up on the board.
Anna got herself in ready for the day. She jumped in the shower and got dressed. When she finished up, there was a text from Hobbs to meet him at a bank. Something must have just happened. She headed out going to the bank. He texted her the address. Parking her car out back, Hobbs was walking her direction. Anna got out of her car
"What's going on?" She said walking up to him. He guided her to the front of the building.
"There was a robbery and shooting early this morning." Hobbs handed her the light to look for footprints. The glass was shattered on the ground in the front of the building. She went in looking for any sort of fingerprints. Whoever did this was good at covering up. There were no sign of their evidence anywhere except for the broken window.
"Find anything?" Hobbs came up to her.
"Not a thing. These guys must have been pretty good at hiding their evidence. It's making it difficult for me to find anything." Men inside where cleaning up or speaking to witnesses. Not having any luck, she headed outside.
Hobbs followed her out. "Want to go to lunch with me?" he asked.
"Sure where to?" She wondered.
"I got some friends of mine i'd like you to meet." Anna followed Hobbs to their cars. He followed her so she could drop her car off at the station. They rode together heading to a friend of his for lunch.
