Dilios awoke with the sunrise, as he was trained to do. He felt warm and satisfied… lying in his arms was Alexia, still asleep. Smiling, he took a moment to observe her features. Her raven hair was a bit mussed from their lovemaking, but it framed her face beautifully. She had long, dark lashes, a small nose and bow shaped lips that he found himself wanting to kiss. Reaching up, he gently placed his left hand on her jaw and caressed her face: she had soft skin, smooth and milky. Dilios brushed his thumb over her mouth, which made her sigh in her sleep.
There was no doubt in his mind that she was a true beauty and he was lucky to have her. He knew that she would bear him strong children… and oh, but the idea of working toward that goal here in their bed sent tendrils of delight through him. Alexia was his, and he had chosen well.
Leaning forward, he pressed soft kisses to her eyelids, willing her to wake…
Alexia stirred at his prodding, opening her eyes and gazing at him. “Good morning” she whispered, smiling at him.
Dilios answered her grin with one of his own. “Good morning, Alexia”
“Do you have to go soon?”
He shook his head no. “Not today, my sweet… I’m allowed a day to show you more of our city and to have congress with you again”
Alexia blushed at his words. “Is that so, my Spartan soldier?”
The woman had a bit of cheek to her, but he found it endearing and he decided to answer in kind. “Yes, it is, my Athenian wife”
She closed her eyes once more as he kissed her chastely: oh, but he tasted good.
When he released her, he reached up with his left hand and began to tenderly pluck the small flowers from her hair.
“Dilios? I can take them out…”
“No, no” he denied, working at a particularly stubborn bloom. “It is custom, love… it is my duty so that when you are seen today by the others, they will know that you are spoken for”
Alexia sighed happily and turned her head to allow him better access to her hair.
He continued to groom her until he had removed every last flower, pausing to brush the final one over her forehead. “There… now you are officially a maiden no more”
She noted the satisfaction in his voice at his statement: there was a certain amount of possessiveness in his words, but she didn’t mind it one bit. “I am yours” Alexia swore, touching his lower lip with the tips of the fingers on her right hand.
Dilios captured her small hand with his own, kissing her fingers. “Yes, my sweet… and I am yours”
“You will forgive me, husband, but I need to relieve myself” she confessed.
“Of course… in the next room”
It wasn’t easy to scoot away from him when she wanted to remain close, but nature called. Alexia untangled herself from him and got her feet on the floor: for a moment, she considered covering her nakedness, but then decided against it. Off she went to the next room…
Dilios sat up in the bed and stretched: looking down at himself, he saw that she had bled upon him when he had taken her innocence. Oh, but the poor thing… Just as he swung his legs to the side of the mattress, Alexia returned to the room.
This time her modesty won out, and she hurried back to the bed and climbed onto it, finding the sheets and wrapping them around herself.
He chuckled at her actions and stood up, not the least bit ashamed of his body. “I’ll be right back”
Alexia nodded and watched him walk away: oh, but his body was glorious, all muscle and sinew.
Dilios relieved himself quickly and then wet a bathing rag from the washing pitcher that sat on a shelf. He cleansed himself of her blood, not wanting her to see it and grow upset.
She was lying in bed, turned towards the window and gazing out at the landscape as the sun rose. She heard her husband come back into the bedchamber… the bed dipped down a bit as he climbed in next to her. Alexia closed her eyes with bliss as Dilios lifted the sheet that covered her and pressed his body to hers from behind. Gods but he was warm and sturdy against her…
Leaning down, he kissed her shoulder. “I see that you are enjoying the sight of your new home”
“Yes” she admitted, shivering with bliss as he ran his bearded chin over her skin.
“My love, you need never be ashamed of your body… especially not in front of me”
Alexia let his words sink in to her consciousness as he ran his left hand down her shoulder and under the sheets. She could feel his hardness against the small of her back and it was intoxicating…
Dilios wrapped his arm around her waist and gently turned her to face him. She was so very beautiful in the morning light: he caressed her stomach and slid his hand upward, finding her right breast.
She moaned at his touch, his calloused hand sending a shock of pleasure through her.
“Touch me, Alexia” he entreated softly, brushing his lips over hers.
Obeying him, she placed her right palm on his chest and felt the strength of him. She couldn’t get over the fact that he was like a statue encased in soft skin.

Dilios was perceptive, though: he saw in her eyes that there was something that she wanted to express. “Speak your mind, wife” he entreated.
Alexia sighed and gently shook her head. “I dare not. I would acclimate to your culture and forego the wordiness of my people”
He raised an eyebrow: this was serious. “And I would have you always say what you need to in our bedroom” Dilios retorted. “As your husband, I would hear your words, be they Spartan or Athenian in nature. Please… say what you want to…”
There would be no denying him, of that she was certain. She could only hope that she wouldn’t sound weak to him. “I wanted to tell you… that I love you, Dilios. What started in my father’s garden as infatuation has become something more…” Pausing, she lowered her gaze to the hollow of his throat. “I love you and I want to be a good wife to you… I want to please you and bear you many healthy children…” Alexia stopped there, biting her lower lip as she awaited his response.
Her declaration filled him with great joy. He placed his left index finger under her chin and tilted her face upward so that he could look in her eyes. It wasn’t in his nature to use words to express himself, but for her, he would try. “Alexia… I love you as well. I wouldn’t have brought you to Sparta if I didn’t. I know that we were destined to be together as surely as I know my name… We will love together, and together we will give Sparta many fine children…” Dilios stopped then, hoping that she could understand the depth of his emotion for her.
Alexia thought that she would weep: she had no doubt that it had been difficult for him to say those things to her. Soldiers were not known for being gifted with language. “Dilios?” she queried softly.
“Yes?”
She kissed him with every bit of emotion that she felt, stroking his cheek with her thumb.
Groaning with relief that his message had been received, Dilios embraced her back. Here in their bedchamber, he could say all of the little things that he wanted to… the streets of the city were another story.
Still, he was anxious to show her around her new home and to have her be seen by his comrades…
