Chapter 2: The Beginning Part 2 "Jatsu!!! Get back here, you are supposed to be getting ready for the ceremony today!!! Jatsu!!" A young mother shouted, shaking her fist as a young boy, her son, ran as fast as he could in to the forest. Jatsu smiled and giggles slightly, knowing how much it annoyed his mom, but he was not interested in this whole ceremony. When he was far enough away, and had found a nice tree to sit in, he climbed up and sat on the edge of the branch, looking around at the forest. He sighed as the sight of plants and trees, the calming effect taking over and relaxing him. He didn't know what the big deal was anyway, the tradition was to gather boys and girls of a young age and to pair them up as mates. Sometimes the parents would even talk to other parents so that when the ceremony came up, the child would be mated with someone their parent had chosen. "well, that won't be me." He thought, continuing to look out at the forest, unaware that there was another Navi in the same tree.Just as Jatsu was getting up to climb down the tree, he felt something poke him in the neck and when he looked up, he saw a boy around his age hanging from the branch above him, a stick held loosely in his hand. They both stared at each other in complete silence, even the forest seemed to have quieted in that moment as Jatsu looked over the other boy. The boy was a little older than he was, seeing that he carried a small bow strapped to his back, and that there was muscle already forming on the boy. Comparing himself who had just started training as a warrior, the boy had to be much farther along in training. Then, he looked at the boy's necklace and was shocked to see that the style was showing that this boy would be the next chieftain. Unconsciously, he took his own necklace in his hand, knowing that his showed that he was to be a warrior, but also that he has been blessed by Eywa to birth children when he was older. That was the other reason he didn't want to be apart of the ceremony. Because of what he was born as, the other children his age treated him differently, and his parents were making a big deal over how he was 'blessed' to be chosen for this.
The boy glanced down when Jatsu grabbed his necklace, but it seemed he didn't care that much about it. "he must have seen it before I grabbed it..." Jatsu thought, continuing the staring contest with the other, before the boy smiled and sat back slightly, still looking at Jatsu, but looking more relaxed. "(What is your name?" The boy asked, tilting his head slightly. He hesitated on whether or not to say, but figured if he wasn't going to interact much with the other, than it wouldn't matter. "......my name is Jatsu.." He said softly. The other grinned and nodded. " I see you, Jatsu, and I am Tsu'tey." The boy, now known as Tsu'tey, said before looking out at the forest. For the next few hours, they just sat in the tree, sometimes talking and laughing with each other, other times showing their skills, and then just sitting in companionable silence. When the sun had set, and they both knew that the ceremony was about to start, he saw Tsu'tey get up and stretch slightly before starting to climb down, motioning Jatsu to follow. He climbed down with Tsu'tey, knowing they both couldn't keep away from the ceremony, but feeling almost sad because he had made a friend, and that they were both to be mated to someone else.....though he couldn't understand why that part made him sad too.
Just before they were about to enter the village, Jatsu already seeing and hearing people gathering for the ceremony, he felt a hand grab his own and it started to pull him faster to the village. He blinked and looked up from the hand holding his own to see that it was Tsu'tey who had grabbed his hand, tilting his head slightly in curiosity as he saw Tsu'tey had an almost determined look on his face. When they came to a stop, Jatsu already hearing the murmuring of the clan at the sight of Tsu'tey, who seemed to ignore them and to call out to Mo'At. When the wise woman came over, looking curiously between them, Tsu'tey, in a clear and loud voice while holding up their joined said. "This is the person I have chosen to be mates with, if he shall have me." Jatsu was shocked, and felt his heart skip a beat at Tsu'tey's words. When Tsu'tey and Mo'At turned to him for his answer, he wasn't sure. On one hand, if he didn't choose Tsu'tey, he would be paired with a Navi he didn't know and may not even care for him for the rest of his life. But on the other....he would be mates with a friend, who he could slowly learn more about as the years go on. So, after a few moments, he looked at Mo'At and nodded. " I agree to be Tsu'tey's mate, Mo'At." He said, just as loud and clear as Tsu'tey had been.
Mo'At smiled and nodded, bringing both their parents over before she started the ceremony to bind them as mates. She took a part from each of their necklaces and placed the opposite on the other's necklace, to symbolize that Tsu'tey would carry a part of Jatsu with him always, and Jatsu would be carrying a part of Tsu'tey. Next, she took some bright red paint, and drew a symbol on both their foreheads and chest over the heart, to show that when they were older, they would be bound together as mates. When the ceremony was done for them, Tsu'tey smiled and squeezed Jatsu's hand, and he smiled back. He couldn't believe he was going to be mates with the next chieftain. That night, they stayed close together, talking and laughing with each other well in to the night as the ceremony came to a close.
~ It had been several weeks since the ceremony, and Jatsu had not been more happy. When he wasn't training to be a warrior, he was with Tsu'tey, talking about training and of the future that was ahead. Then came a time when Jatsu and his family would be traveling to the edge of the forest, his parents having been chosen to speak to these strange people who came a few weeks back. The village called them Sky People, because they came out of the sky when they first arrived. Not wanting to be left behind and curious to see these people, Jatsu convinced his parents to let him come along. After saying goodbye to the village and to Tsu'tey, Jatsu followed his parents out in to the forest. It didn't take them long to find the Sky People, they were making so much noise and disturbing the forest, that it wasn't difficult to find where they were. His parents went up to the Sky People to talk, Jatsu following slightly behind them. They talked differently, and it took a while for a translation to go back and forth between them. It seemed they were talking peaceful at first, but then, a loud noise filled the air that Jatsu had not heard before, hurting his ears and watching in shock as his father fell, a hole in his chest over his heart. He didn't have time to run or shout, for the Sky People were upon him and his mother, who pushed him behind her as she snarled and shouted for them to stay back. No one listened, and Jatsu could only watch as that noise went off again, and his mother fell. Jatsu fell to his knees, clutching on to his mother as the Sky People came closer. He hissed and snarled as best he could, not wanting them to touch him or his parents, when he felt something hit his arm. He looked down, not having heard that noise go off, and was confused to see some kind of shiny thing with a bright feather on the end. Soon, Jatsu's eyes were drooping and the last thing he felt was his body falling to the ground, his mind crying out for Tsu'tey as he fell unconsciousness. Little did the clan know, was that that was the last time the boy was known as Jatsu. His new name given to him by the Sky People, was Jake Sully.
