It had been 4 years since Elizabeth miscarried the baby she had with Will. Stranded alone on an island she thought she would bleed to death and made a large smoke signal. Not long after a Portuguese ship came to her rescue and was treated by the on board doctor. After a day laying in the captain’s courters she realized the loss of her baby was a sign. She could not survive on that island on her own and it was selfish of Will to expect her to. How dare he keep her, alone, waiting for 1 day every 10 years. No, life was too short. She managed to barter a ride to England with the silver she had left, there was nothing left for her in Port Royal.
The first thing Elizabeth did when she reached Cardiff, England was to get her impromptu marriage to Will annulled. True it was never legally verified and true he was technically dead, but she didn’t want to leave any room for error. She needed a new life. She found herself the head maid of a prominent local house. Her time at sea as a pirate made living a privileged life both impossible without her father and unwanted.
Most of her days were spent cleaning and supervising the girls under her. At night they’d gather round and begged her to tell them of her pirating days and always asked why, if she was the pirate king, she was there and not out at sea. She always told them it was because she didn’t want the awkwardness of running into her ghost pirate of an ex-husband, which was true, but not the whole truth. She didn’t even admit to herself that it was because pirating would never be satisfying without Jack in more ways than one.
Jack swaggered off the small schooner he had convinced to drop him off in Tortuga. He was on the search for anyone who could tell him where the Pearl was. After about an hour of searching and many a woman of the night brushed off he wondered into the Wicked Wench pub and smiled wide.
Gibbs was sitting alone at the far side of the pub nursing a pint of grog.
“Mr. Gibbs!”
Gibbs looked up at whoever had said his name. Standing in front of him was a young man with a scruffy goatee and chin length dreadlocks. Gibbs swore he knew this young man but couldn’t place him.
“What d’ye want, boy? I’ve got…important business to attend to,”
“Oh, I see, too busy for me, eh?”
Gibbs looked up at the boy, a confused look on his face.
“What be yer name?”
“Sparrow.”
Gibbs eyes tripled in size, “Oh Mary Mother of God, I told Jack his fraternizin’ would come to haunt him one day. M’sorry boy, but I can’t tell ye where yer father is, I don’t even know me self.”
Jack’s grin broadened, “Gibbs, m’not some bastard whelp, it’s me, Jack. I found the Fountain.”
Gibbs’ mouth dropped open, “No! Oh dear…dear anything Holy! Are you serious?! Jack! Jack, you’re daft!”
“Aye, but that’s why ye followed me t’hell ‘n’ back.”
Jack sat in the chair in front of Gibbs, “So, where be me ship?”
“Aye, the Pearl,” Gibbs nodded, “when the crew discovered Barbossa had no map to the Fountain, they mutinied him and came back here t’find ye. We’re docked on the far side of the city.”
“Ah! Yer a diamond, mate! We ship out in the morning then.”
“Aye…won’t the crew find it odd that you’ve, well, yer a whelp Jack.”
“True, but what they don’t know won’t hurt me nor will what they do know hurt them, aye?”
Gibbs stared at Jack for a moment, “So..what do I tell the crew?”
Jack sighed, “Yer hopeless, mate. Tell the crew their new captain is me son. Is that so hard?”
“Aye sir. Where are we headed?”
Jack looked at his compass as it spun around a couple times before stopping. With a mischievous glint in his eye he looked up at his first mate.
“T’England, Mr. Gibbs, t’England.”
