In the evening, after supper, James had disappeared into the great house
once more as there was another matter that needed his immediate attention and
couldn’t wait until morning. The young lady was shown to bedchambers so she
could retire for the evening, which she did without protest.
After changing into her nightgown, taking down her hair and brushing it
out, she knelt down beside the large bed with her rosary and said each of her
prayers. Making sure to thank God for all that he had given to her, and for
everything he had been generous enough to bestow on her. For a moment she
hesitated as her true feelings came out in her prayer and she explained that she
didn’t know why he had put this marriage in her path, but she knew he must
have had some purpose for doing it. Breaking down slightly, she held back her
tears as she expressed her fears, being taking away from everything she knew by
a stranger she knew nothing about.
Taking a few deep breaths, wiping
the tears away before they had a chance to fall she swallowed the lump in her
throat hearing footsteps in the hall. She thanked him again, said her final
prayer, and then stood putting her rosary away. Quickly she jumped in the bed
between the covers and blew out the candle laying down pulling the blankets over
her with her back to the door holding perfectly still.
When the door opened, she held her
breath and closed her eyes tight listening when the door closed to the persons
movements about the room. After what seemed like an eternity of noise and
rustling around, Norrington raised the covers on his side of the bed and slipped
between them pulling them back over as he slid closer to her. She felt eyes
starring on her back a few moments. Then, the worse thing in the world happened.
“Aislinn.”
The young woman didn’t answer
right away; she was like a frightened little girl who had awoken in the dark
from a nightmare and was afraid that if she moved the scary thing that was after
her in her dream might catch up with her. But finally she did answer, knowing
that perhaps it was obvious she was still awake. “Yes.”
“Did the sisters tell you of
your wedding night?” He questioned.
“Yes, the sisters told me that I
would share a bed with my husband.” She said in a soft voice. James waited
hoping that there was more to that, yet she seemed to stop with that statement.
“Anything else?”
Aislinn was quiet for another
moment before she answered him, “To trust my husband.” Well, it wasn’t
much she was told, but he supposed it was better then nothing. Having no mother
or sisters, and raised by nuns in a convent it might as well have been nothing.
James reached for her under the
covers putting his hand on her shoulder pulling her closer, rolling her to her
back and wrapping his arms around her. She panicked a little putting her hands
on her chest looking up at him not sure what he was doing, but the mere
fascinate of how close he was and his arms around her was enough to cause her an
enormous amount of terror.
Norrington leaned down and kissed
her gently, finding that her body only immediately went completely brittle in
response and her hands started to push against his chest. There was absolutely
no contest here, whatsoever. He was completely stronger then her in everyway.
He placed another gentle kiss on
her lips and then one on her neck, yet she was not calming down but becoming
more frightened by the moment. Her hands pushed more against his chest, and she
readjusted them several times trying to make him move away from her. Even though
it was a futile endeavor to push him off of her, it got to the point where it
was simply annoying and James reached up taking her wrists and pushing them down
onto the pillow at either side of her head out of his way. Then he kissed her
once again.
Aislinn struggled against him now,
and closed her eyes turning her face away from him biting her lip hoping that
perhaps he would simply stop touching her with his mouth like that.
Norrington decided that perhaps it
was best not to draw this out to long, and he released her wrists and reached
down under the blankets taking a hold of her nightgown and sliding it up over
her thighs and hips. Just as predicted, now she fell into a full out panic and
started to sit up beneath him her hands instantly trying to push him away.
However James quickly caught her shoulders and lay her back down beneath him as
he lay on top of her.
Reaching down he took her thigh in
his hand pulling it around his hip and wrapped his other arm around her as he
lifted her from the bed laying her flat beneath him so she was repositioned a
little better that they might both be a bit more comfortable. Releasing her
thigh he kept his other arm wrapped firmly about her since she was still
squirming so, and swiftly guided himself to her entrance. Once finding her
secret untouched womanhood, he slowly began to push inside of her trying to be
as gentle as possible. Even though once beginning he found that her untouched
young body was an exceedingly tight fit.
James could see the reaction on
her face, and could see the pain and horror in her eyes. He was neither blind
nor was he completely callous to her situation. Her body tensed and protested to
the violation yet he continued to push further into her quivering velvet body.
Aislinn whimpered as her hands tried to push him away once again but it was
completely pointless as her strength was no match for his and James held fast to
her body. Finally, he thrust deep in side her and her virginity gave way causing
her to cry out, shaking from head to toe closing her eyes tight.
Norrington paused only a moment,
before he slowly began to move inside of her. The young girl was horrified at
what was happening to her, and tears streamed down her face feeling her body
being violated by a man who was still very much a stranger to her. Now she began
to claw at his skin in a reaction to the pain she felt trying to make him stop,
and almost succeeded in swiping her nails across his face except he managed to
dodge out of the way. James quickly grasped her wrists as before pushing them
down against the mattress below, resuming his movements inside of her watching
her face.
After a few moments he began to
move a bit faster, concentrating on his efforts a bit more feeling the bliss of
her soft firm young body against his own. His breath was deeper in his chest as
he could feel his excitement grow and his climax near. James hands held a bit
tighter to her wrists, trying to keep his wits about him and stay in control of
himself not wanting to cause the poor girl anymore distress then she was already
in. Hearing her quickened breath, and feeling her breasts heaving against his
own chest only excited him that much more. Then, when what seemed like an
eternity to Aislinn passed by, James thrust deep inside her one final time as he
reached his climax and released his seed into her body.
Breathing hard, he lowered his
head down and rested against the girls shoulder for a second to catch his
breath. Aislinn was breathing hard as well from her struggles, her eyes wide
unable to move with how tight he was holding her pinned beneath him. His mouth
felt slightly dry and he swallowed, licking his lips as he started to regain his
normal breath. Then his grip on the young woman’s wrists relaxed as he leaned
up a bit so he could look down at her.
It was hardly a sight anyone would
want to see the first time they made love to their new bride. The look of a
scared rabbit on a tear streaked young face as she starred wide eyed up at what
she could only know really as her attacker. What a day it must have been for
her. A crash course in the real world and adulthood all in one day.
The Admiral studied her for a
moment, finding this an even more awkward moment then any other that had been
experienced during the day. He raised his hand to carefully move a stray strand
of hair from her face, only for her to gasp in terror and close her eyes turning
her face away as though she was afraid his hand were pure poison. Something that
was souly bent on her destruction if it touched her. If that wasn’t the most
horrid feeling in the world, he couldn’t imagine worse.
Despite her reaction, he felt he
had to show her that he didn’t mean her any harm. Ever so carefully he touched
the strained of hair and moved it away from her face, and traced it back into
place stroking her hair gently with his hand. She was so incredibly frightened,
and it set his teeth on edge not knowing what to do feeling so uncomfortable
that he was the one who had scared her so.
“Everything’s alright.” He
said softly. “There’s no need to cry. It’s over now.” That didn’t
sound like the thing to say, but he had to say something. What exactly did one
say in this sort of situation? Yet, when he said it was over she did seem to
calm down a bit. She sniffled a little more, but the tears did seem to stop. Her
eyes opened but her head remained turned away from him against the pillow, and
she raised her hand wiping the tears away from her face. There was a look of
embarrassment on her face as though she just wanted to be invisible now.
“Alright?” Norrington asked gently. She nodded a little hoping that it would
satisfy him enough that perhaps her might leave her alone. That didn’t seem to
go well at all, and James wished that there was some way to have made it go
better, but how? There was nothing to change it now, what was done was done.
Pushing himself up he started to
roll off of her pulling himself from within her body. She whimpered a bit as she
flinched and grasped at the blankets. He paused putting his hand against her
stomach. It was obvious that she was sensitive and tender from the experience
and he was apologetic as he guided her to lie back down, moving over to lie next
to her pulling the covers up over them to keep warm.
Aislinn moved back away from him
to the furthest edge of her side of the bed making sure that the covers were
wrapped around her. James watch a moment before rolling over onto his pillow to
go to sleep.
At breakfast, James tried not to stare at the young lady who sat across
from him as they ate. Neither of them really looked at each other and tried
their best to avoid it, but James had a particular difficultly considering her
choice of wardrobe for the day. It was summer, but she wore a winter dress with
a collar up to her chin, sleeves to her fingertips and dark as if she was
mourning the loss of a close relative. It was just completely unusual and it
would draw anyone’s eye, especially a husbands.
It wasn’t exactly a subtle reason that had prompted this reaction. He
had a feeling he knew what had caused it. The careful way she was walking this
morning when she came down the stairs into the dining room was quite the hint.
Obviously, her body was tender and sore from the evening before and no doubt
when she awoke whatever sense of shame that the sisters in the convent had
instilled in her over her naked body kicked into overkill and she felt the need
to cover herself to excess. It was anyone’s guess how many layers were
underneath the dress she wore.
Norrington realized that they were going to have to have a bit of a talk
before the evening came or things might be even more difficult then they were
the night before. It was quite a fine kettle of fish her father had gotten them
into wasn’t it. What Norrington couldn’t seem to understand was why her
father was so incredibly quick to rush her into marriage. It was quite apparent
that she hadn’t been prepared for it at all if the word was ever even
mentioned to her in her presence before the wedding day itself arrived, and
perhaps wasn’t even finished with her schooling. It was odd indeed.
It was yet another day of the Admiral’s absence except during meal
times for the simple fact that he was an extremely busy man. He had affairs that
had to be seen to, both social and military and of course a few ends to be tied
up here and there concerning certain agreements that came with Aislinn’s dowry
that needed attention. One last thing had to be done after dinner, even though
he wanted to put it off until the next day wanting to go straight away to his
bedchambers so he could speak with Aislinn as he had been practicing all day
thinking of how he was going to go about it.
Quickly finishing the task, he headed up the stairs to the room only to
be stopped by a maid who was nervous in her dismay. “Admiral Norrington . . .
I . . . Sir, I’ve just been to you’re room to check on Lady Aislinn to see
if there was anything more she needed for the evening.”
That seemed rather usual, and the admiral couldn’t see what the problem
was or why the maid seemed so upset. “Yes? What’s wrong? What has she asked
for?” Who knows what sort of unusual request the girl might have made.
“That’s just it sir, she’s gone. She’s not in your room.” The
maid said worried that she would be blamed.
“What?” James said, finding that extremely unusual as he looked down
the hallway to where their room was. “Are you sure?” He said as he started
towards the room to have a look for himself.
“Yes sir,” James opened the doors and began to look through the rooms
finding that the maid was correct. “I’ve looked all over but there’s no
sign of her. I’m not sure she’s even come in here this evening.” The
admiral raised his hand to his head rubbing his eyes slightly, knowing he should
have accompanied her in the first place. “Should I have the house searched?”
The maid asked.
“No! She’s scared to death as it is for Gods sake. The last thing she
needs is to feel like an escaped convict who’s made off with the silver.” He
sighed. “I’ll look for her. Just . . . go about your business. If you see
her, come and tell me . . . and whatever you do, don’t frighten her.” James
ordered before turning and walking out of the room to begin his search.
The Admiral walked around the house for quite sometime unsuccessful in
his search until finally he caught a break when he came to the library. He had
started to pass it when he heard a sound like something moving across the
carpet. Slowly the Admiral went back and slid the door open stepping inside
holding up the candles he carried to cast the limelight over the room so he
could see.
It was a large room so it was difficult to see everything with such a
small light source so he stepped inside and looked about a section at a time.
Then at last he saw a foot that couldn’t quite fit into the small corner
behind the table with the rest of the body that was hiding there. The game of
hide and seek had come to an and here she was. Norrington reached over putting
the candleholder down on a table before approaching the young woman carefully
and he knelt down beside her looking around the corner to where he could see her
and she could see him. Aislinn gasped a little pulling her knees tighter to her
chest having been caught, and swallowed the lump in her throat scared she would
be punished for not going to bed as she had been told to do.
“Were you planning on spending the night down here curled up in a
corner?” He asked. It wasn’t a scolding or mean tone, he wasn’t angry with
her. She looked as though she was going to answer. At least she was trying to
answer, and wanted to, but no words were coming out, and she bit her lip.
Norrington half smiled as he looked down slightly, there was no way out of it.
They had to talk. Reaching out, he offered her his hand. She looked at it a
moment before looking up at him. “Come on, you’ll catch your death if you
stay down here.” She still looked quite nervous about it and hesitated. “It
doesn’t bite I promise.” He reassured her.
Gathering her courage, she slowly reached up and placed her hand in his.
Well, it wasn’t too much but it was a start. James helped her to her feet and
led her out of the library picking up the candles on the way, taking her back up
stairs and returning to their bedchambers.
“Sit down, Aislinn. Please.” He said offering her a seat in the
sitting area of their room. That didn’t seem very threatening at all so she
did as he asked, and folded her hands in her lap. James took a moment collecting
his thoughts, and removed his jacket putting it aside. This felt like the
strangest thing he had ever done but he was resolved to do it for her sake. He
poured himself a drink and walked over sitting down in the other chair next to
her putting the glass on the table having a feeling he was going to need it
before to long.
“I think we need to talk about . . . the way you dressed today.” That
seemed as good a place to start as any. “You are aware that it is the end of
June and July has just begun. The weather is far to hot to be wearing garments
of such style and thickness, are you not?” He asked.
Her eyes were turned downcast, “I . . . felt anything else I had to
wear was inappropriate.” She said in a quiet voice not able to look up at him.
“I don’t see how asphyxiating yourself can be deemed appropriate.”
He looked at the dress she was wearing. “That dress is made of wool, I can
tell just by the shapes of the material.” She didn’t say anything else not
having another answer and James could see that she was starting to get nervous
again. It was time to move on from the dress. “Aislinn, I know you don’t
understand the encounter that was experienced between us last night, and you
have questions and concerns about what took place . . .” when Norrington said
this, her face started to flush red in embarrassment and she was extremely
uncomfortable. So much so in fact that she started to rise to retreat from the
conversation if she could. Yet James reached out catching her hand and sitting
her back down, “ . . . no, Aislinn we must have this conversation.” He said
staying patient with her.
“You said it was over.” She said quickly hoping that maybe that would
end it. Ah, that was why it felt like the wrong thing to say when he said it.
James paused a moment and reached over taking a drink from his glass before
putting it back down on the table.
“That’s true, I did say that. What I meant to say, in full, was that
the worst part was over. Now that you’re no longer a virgin, it won’t be as
painful as it was last night for you. Things will be easier and better, not so
difficult.” He tried to explain.
Aislinn was deathly quiet; silent as the grave would be an excellent way
to describe her silence. “Again.” Was all she could say in a ghostly voice
as she starred at the floor.
Norrington studied her for a moment, “It’s the nightly duty of every
wife to her husband, Aislinn.” It seemed a harsh thing to say to a young lady
but what else was there to say? It was the truth. She was a married woman now,
and children were expected not to mention the act itself. The silence that
followed that statement could have filled a vast canyon or pit, and the long it
drew out, the more Norrington felt as though he had just assassinated whatever
hope she had been holding onto. “Do you have any questions for me?” He asked
hoping that might help a little bit and end the cavernous silence.
A tear escaped her eye as she continued to stare at the floor, “What do
I do.” She finally asked in a whisper.
The Admiral wasn’t sure if this was an improvement or a step back, or a
step in the wrong direction. The only way to really find out was to press on,
and try to see how things progressed. “As the sisters told you. Trust me?”
He suggested. Another few moments passed by, and she looked so incredibly
nervous and somewhat upset as if backed into a corner but finally she nodded.
James sat on the bed having stripped down to his white under blouse and
his trousers waiting for Aislinn to come from behind the screen in her
nightgown. She was taking a long time, which the Admiral accounted to nerves and
a winter sized dress that no doubt took some effort to free herself from. “Do
you require assistance?” He asked in case a clasp or a button was giving her
more then warranted difficulty.
“No.” she answered quickly, as though she was afraid that he was
going to walk around the screen if she didn’t. The Admiral tapped his fingers
slightly on the table looking around the room boredly. He waited a while longer
before realizing that there was a good chance she wasn’t going to come out at
all when any and all noise from behind the screen had disappeared completely and
it remained quiet. James stood from the bed and took a step but stopped,
deciding that might not be a wise course of action. Yet now he was once again at
a loss for what he was to do, not sure he had any ideas for how to coax her from
a hiding spot he had foolishly afforded her this time.
‘damn’ he said to himself not having a single thing come to his mind.
However, the young woman gathering her courage and slowly starting to come
around the screen saved him. Norrington could feel a sigh of relief at this, and
he smiled when her eyes looked at him. She stopped just next to the screen,
timidly. James motioned for her to come further. Aislinn closed her eyes and
took a deep breath of courage, and stood straight to walk with dignity and as
much confidence as she could find. As she approached, The Admiral offered her
his hands, and the young lady reached up carefully placing her hands in his.
Norrington could almost feel that she was starting to trust him a little
more and it was encouraging to say the least. He pulled her a bit closer to him
and reached up touching her face, and as before her reaction was to pull away
suddenly. “I’m sorry.” She said overcome with shame at her behavior.
“It’s alright.” He said, touching her face once more and smoothing
her hair away from her face back over her shoulder, “Nothing to be worried
about.” James reassured her. “You’re a very lovely young woman Aislinn.”
He complimented. “You have nothing to be ashamed of.” She half smiled
nervously and gave a quick nod to agree with him. Norrington gently touched her
chin, and stroked the warm softness of her neck raising her face just a bit so
he could place a tender kiss on her rose colored lips.
So far, so good and she seemed alright and semi cooperative although
quite nervous but he didn’t exactly expect her to be completely trusting and
comfortable after the night before. His hand moved to carefully cup her neck
pulling her a little closer as he place another more lingering kiss to her lips,
raising his other hand and placing it on her arm so she could get used to the
feel of his touch.
Just then, a rather inconvenient knock came to the door causing Aislinn
to jump as they both looked over wondering who it was at this hour. James
sighed, and looked at the young lady a moment wishing he could just ignore it
but chances were that whoever it was, wasn’t going to go away. The Admiral
reached up and stroked her cheek lightly with half a smile letting her know it
was all right before heading towards the door.
He opened it a crack to find the maid who had reported Aislinn missing in
the first place, “Yes?” He said trying not to sound to annoyed.
“I’m sorry to disturb you sir, but were you able to find her?” She
questioned quietly.
“Yes, yes I was. She simply went for a walk before retiring for the
evening, she’s fine.” He said making her excuse to save them both from a
certain amount of embarrassment.
“Oh, I’m glad to hear that sir. Will you be needing anything else
this evening?” She asked.
“No, you may retire.”
“Thank you. Goodnight sir.” Norrington half smiled still a bit
irritated at the interruption before closing the door and locking it to avoid
any other unwanted interruptions that might arise.
James walked back into the room to find that Aislinn wasn’t where he
had left her, but she had quickly moved to the bed and he could only assumed
dived in between the blankets as soon as he turned his back. For some reason, he
found it somewhat amusing as he looked at her, the candles were still lit so he
could see her clearly. His hands where on his hips and he smiled walking
casually towards the bed. “Was it a bit chilly in here for you?” He
questioned.
Aislinn starred at him for a moment and decided it was best to simply
agree, and nodded slightly. James couldn’t help it, she was quite adorable in
her manner and one couldn’t help but feel compassion for the young creature.
He sat down next to her and just looked at her for a moment. “You can’t hide
from me, Aislinn. I’m your husband now. You do understand that don’t you?”
Her eyes remained downward with her arms wrapped around her knees even
though the blanket was covering them. She was so quiet, and it seemed she never
spoke unless she was spoken to and even then it felt as though she didn’t
speak unless she thought it was worth saying. James reached up and tucked her
hair behind her ear kissing her cheek, and then her chin.
After a moment he took her hand unwrapping it from around her knees and
pulled the blankets back from her, wrapping her arm around his neck and wrapping
his own arm around her in turn. He leaned her back just slightly holding her
against his body as he gave her a deeper kiss then he had before, showing a
little more affection but trying not to be to quick about it.
Reaching down with his other arm, he laced it under her knees and picked
her up, laying her back down on the bed, starting to reposition himself to lay
over her somewhat getting comfortable. Then he reached up and swiped the hair
back from her eyes, cupping her face in his hand, beginning to lean down and
kiss her once again. When he started to press his hips against hers slightly, he
stopped cold feeling a sharp shooting pain in his side as his eyes went wide.
He rolled back as his hand went to the sharp pain and he looked down,
finding the cause instantly. “Aislinn!” He said finding that her hand had
driven a long hatpin squarely into his flesh. “Jesus.” Needless to say, he
was shocked and had never expected this from what had seemed to be a defenseless
mouse. Reaching up for the hatpin he quickly pulled it out finding she had
driven it at least two inches and the wound was bleeding quite a bit. Despite
the depth of the wound, it really wasn’t that bad. Luckily she’d missed
anything vital.
Still, it hurt, and anyone would be upset being stabbed in that situation
and he threw the hatpin across the room holding his hand over the wound feeling
slightly ill. James grit his teeth together breathing slowly trying to keep from
passing out. The Admiral looked over at the young woman who seemed as though she
was waiting to be struck, ready to bolt should he make a move toward her. “Go
to sleep.” He commanded a bit more forceful then intended but the stab wound
was rather painful. Getting up from the bed he blew out the candle leaving to go
and attend to himself.
