Grief can do awful things to even the strongest of minds, and as a Mind Wanderer Ki’taka definitely had a strong mind, he was able to disrupt the brain patterns of others even killing them, although this skill was never allowed on hunts or in sparring matches, mind dampeners had to be fitted on such occasions.
Not many Mind Wanderers are born, but those that are either become elders, arbitrators or loan hunters, pray that none ever become bad-bloods. Ki’takas’ mother Rian’tel passed this ability to him and his two brothers, before she died in childbirth; Ki’taka, Sy’gen and Tyclen were also rare because of the fact that they were triplets.Ki’taka was the first-born and of the three boys, the strongest of mind, but not the most powerful, then there was Sy’gen and Tyclen. There is only but one truly powerful Mind Wanderer, Jai’tien, even others of his subspecies feared him.Violence, that was where Ki’takas’ mind was now, violence for ones that killed his daughter, he did not care who got in his way, he had already sent several guards to the medical bay, and that was just with his fists. Even his beloved mate Kien’ata his friend since childhood and mate for the last 90yrs, he had hit her badly, he wanted to find her to try to make amends.Fear could be seen in her eyes as he approached, he was not normally like this, she knew it. He walked to her, knelt down in front of her and placed his head in her lap.”Please forgive me?” He askedKien’ata lifted Ki’takas’ head and looked into his eyes and purred saying, “I do forgive you, I love and respect you, I loved Alex’nia too, but hurting me or others is not going to bring her back, not even killing those responsible will help. How we all deal with grief is very personal.”Purring, Ki’taka lowered his head back down to his mates lap.She is indeed the strongest out of both us and the wisest, thought Ki’taka, as his mate stroked his head and passed her fingers through his hair purring.Raising his head, Ki’taka added ”I have been thinking of going to the back-water planet for a few months for a break and see what those funny little human creatures are up to, do you want to come?Kien’ata shook her head “I would like to but Bahan’cin is due to give birth any moment and I would like to be there seeing it is her first, since mother passed we have become closer, it is a shame it took her passing for it to happen but she needs me. Birth especially your first can be very traumatic.” She then added “And in a way I need her, I’m sorry my mate, but please if you feel you need to, go.”It was so like Kien’ata to think of the needs of someone else before her own but Ki’taka understood her reasoning, and that is why he is his treasured mate. Kien’atas’ mother had caused a lot of the problems between the two sisters, who always used to be close, when Kien’ata and Ki’taka became life mates that all changed. He was pleased to see that it had changed back to the way it was. It was unfortunate that it took death to make it happen.”But what if you need me, I could just go for a month. I just feel like I need to get away for a while gain some strength.” Said Ki’taka he then rose of his knees and picked his mate up in his arms and placed her on the bed.Growling she struggled, ”Please, no, I don’t want this right now.”Ki’taka purred and said, “I know”.
But he thought he would try. Ki’taka knew just what Kien’ata liked, he lightly grazed her neck with his mandibles and gently nibbles at her skin, his hand gently teasing her breast. Kien’ata moaned with pleasure, her body wanted this attention but her mind didn’t.”Please stop”, she cried pushing Ki’taka off her. There was a loud thud on the floor and a pained sound, there he was spread out on the floor, bright green almost glow in the dark blood trickled down his forehead. Boy is she ever strong when she wants to be. Kien’ata then ran for the door, but Ki’taka ran and blocked her exit. “Let me go.” roared Kien’ata. “I am sorry, you are my beautiful mate you can’t blame me for trying, please, come.” Ki’taka motions to the bed. The mates walked to the bed. History had taught Kien’ata that he would not try anything more; he valued her respect too much. Kien’ata slowly made her way back to the bed then laid down and Ki’taka followed. Bending down to kiss her, he purred. “Please all I want to do is to hold you, nothing more, but I wont settle for anything less either.” with that said he laid down next to Kien’ataThe mates laid in their embrace for what seemed like an eternity, neither of them wanting to let go.Ki’taka made his way passed the honored guards, they bowed to him, and he proceeded into the elders chambers. His father Aach’ni was very respected and in some cases feared by his clan and other clans also.It was said that Aach’ni was a direct descendant of Cetanu, a strong, fierce and deadly warrior, it was rumored that he stood at least 9ft tall. After his death he became known as the Black Warrior, a Warrior of Death, the Yautja version of the Grim Reaper, no one got to the afterlife but through him. It was said that if he wished it he could send warriors back, but this was very rare.Aach’ni stood around 7ft 9” slightly shorter than that of his son now standing behind him of 7ft10”His build, as of all Yautja was humanoid and likened to a Greek God, the one marked difference was their faces, only a mother could love such a face. It consisted of mandibles that could stretch out and act independently of each other, covering a mouth full of sharp teeth. The skin has a reptilian appearance but without scales, as with humans they come in different colours, they also have various patterns covering their bodies. Their hair looked like dreadlocks, it looked hard yet was soft at the same time. There hands and feet have talon like fingernails.Aach’ni spun quickly in true Yautja fashion, his eyes fell on his eldest son by Rian’tel, his first mate and his only true love. God you look so much like your mother my son. And I am not even going to ask what has happened to you face.Ki’taka bowed his head to his father, a standard sign of respect to be given to an elder, after straightening his father purred at him and took him in an embrace. He missed his little Alex’nia too, his beautiful little granddaughter, never had he seen a child so full of life, loving adventure and getting into mischief.Clicking, ”I understand you want to go to the back-water planet for a break, you do know that it is not time for us to return.” Said the Elder.Sighing Ki’taka said, ”I know, I just need to compose myself, regain my inner strength, I just feel the back-water planet would be the place for me to do so. Do you know if any clans are there now?” Ki’taka asked.”I have already checked”. Ki’taka looked up at his father with wonder. “The Xri’tin’el clan are there at the moment, the elder is a friend of mine, he understands your situation and has agreed to allow you access to the planet, as long as you do not interfere in their dealings.”Ki’taka nooded and replied “I guess I’ll get to see if the translators on the wristbands really work, I can understand some of the human language that you have taught me but it should be very interesting to use the translator. I had better go prepare.Ki’taka went to turn but stopped “Father do you know where Sy’gen and Ty’clen are?, I want make sure they know to look after Kien’ata for me””They are checking the hard meat pens at the far end of the ship, they wont be back in their quarters for at least a day.” Said Aach’ni as he checked over an information panel.Aach’ni looked up at his son and said, ”My son go prepare, I think they already know what you are going to do, you know we will all look after her. You are both going through a lot at the moment, you need to do what ever it is you need to do, I understand both your reasoning’s for your actions.” Ki’taka bowed and spun around to walk out the door. His father gently placed a clawed hand on his shoulder “Go with honor, my son and return safely.”Ki’taka bowed his head again then continued out the Elders chambers. Aach’nis’ clan was known as Ti’karani, they were a very modern clan, while still observing all the traditional codes of honor, they also have a very unusual code. Warriors are encouraged to bring their families along on their trips, as it was felt that it develops stronger future warriors. As a young warrior Aach’ni had quite often observed families on his journeys to the back-water planet. He found that fathers there were aloud to live together with their mates and offspring, they took a great interest in their offsprings life, and he saw that the young thrived in this type of environment.Aach’ni liked this idea, it was then he approached the Elder of the clan at the time and explained what he had observed. It was decided that Nine test families would be selected and observed. Aach’ni and one of his mates, Rian’tel were one of the ones selected for the trial, even after her death it was found the Aach’nis’ continued involvement in his sons lives contributed to the great warrior status and continued success they have now.The study was found to be a success. And now the Ti’karani are one of the biggest, most honored and successful clans in the history of the Yautja, while still even now some members of his clan still live apart from families, families are encouraged to visit during special times, even this has helped. Some but not all clans are adopting this method, but there is still hope. The clan ship the Seeker has to be one of the largest Yautja ships ever. Almost the size of a small city, armed to the hilt with the latest weaponry and latest technology it is a very formidable sight. Up to twelve smaller ships and even more shuttles could be docked or housed at any one time, and that didn’t include the ships and shuttles that were permanently housed in the Seeker. Visitors ranged from families visiting hunters from the home world to clans for resting or a clan gathering, were hunting tales and mates were abound.Ki’takas’ smallest ship was about the length of a football field and about four levels high. It could house five full-grown Yautja or a family of nine (providing the young had not gotten too big). It was fully equipped with a small training room, weapons room, medical bay, eating area, and private chambers. He had commissioned it when Kien’ata had been expecting twins; they had always wanted a large family. But it just was not meant to be, and he loved and respected her too much to take another mateIt had the most up to date on board weapons, and cloaking technology, like on earth the Yautja are always improving on technology. Ki’taka sighed and set his personal equipment down in a spare room, he would have the ship all too himself on this visit to the back-water planet.Yautjas’ are able to go out on their own because they know the workings of every part of their ships, and to be able to repair them, it is an important part of their survival. Part of a warriors training is to design a ship, and make a working model, if it is to the Elders liking he has the power to have it commissioned to be built. Even though all males are trained to be warriors, training in other specialist trades are encourage if not expected. Experts in building, flight of the larger ships and medical personnel, etc, kind of jobs for want of a better word. Though Yautja have no use or need for money, the honor, success, survival and expansion of the clan is payment enough.Ki’taka could feel that someone was behind him but as he felt out of sorts he couldn’t tell who they were. He let out a loud warning growl and spun around, a flicked out his wrist blades.”We’re not Kien’tara, take it easy big brother.” There stood in front of him were his two brothers, smirking at his newly acquired bruising. “Thought you could leave without seeing us huh, you should know us better than that by know”.Ki’taka growled annoyed, but retracting his wrist blades, “I know, I just thought it would be easier this way. Less chance of you wanting to come with me or trying to talk me out of it.Ty’clen approached and put his hand on his shoulder, “We just wanted to see you before you go and to wish you well, I know you already know that, but sometimes it’s good to actually hear it isn’t it?””Yes, it is my little brother, yes it is.”Sy,gen then approached, and put his hand on Ki’takas’ shoulder. “Watch out for those funny little humans wont you, and if you need us let us know.”Ki’taka embraced Sy’gen, purring he said ”I will, I might even bring one home as a pet, how about that?” Leaving the embrace, the three brothers laughed. They knew he was joking, their clan, although believed that some humans were honorable enough to be given the mark of a warrior, they did not believe in taking them away from the back-water planet, unless the human agreed. Ki’taka then added, “Please keep an eye on Father, Kien’ata, and her little sister Bahan’cin. She’s about to give birth any day now, and like Kien’ata I am worried about her also, she is much smaller than Kien’ata and she is bound to have trouble.”Sy’gen placed a hand on his older brothers shoulder and said, “You know I am one of the best physicians in the clan, I will look after her, besides her mate is one of my friends, if anything did happen to her, well you know.” Ki’taka knew he would be true to his word. “The young are the furture of the clan, without them there is no future.” He added.Ki’taka finished inputting the remainder of the co-ordinates that would take him to the back-water planet, one last co-ordinate was needed that would set him down in his desired location, but he wouldn’t input it until he reached the outskirts of the planet. He then turned to his brothers, curled his hand to a fist and placed it on his chest. The brothers did the same and then said, “Go with honor, and return safely.” They then made their way out of the ship and to an observation area to watch their brother depart, there stood their Father and Kien’ata. They watch silently as Ki’taka engaged the hyper-drive.Ki’taka, set about organizing equipment that he might need. He looked at all his weaponry but something just, for once in his life he couldn’t think of what not right. Something was trying to tell him somewhere something was horribly wrong.Well I suppose it will come to me. I am going there to heal not to hunt, yes, just the barest of weaponry, only enough to aid me.Ki’taka decided on his equipment, cloaking gear, wrist blades and combi-stick. Nice compact weapons. Afterwards Ki’taka decided he would take a rest. It would be one and half earth days before he would reach outer atmosphere of the back-water planet.
As he walked into the bedroom he noticed something. It was the toy shuttle and hard meat he had made for Alex’nia, he picked them up. She had left the shuttle in here when they left the ship to go out and explore Zentael. It was the first time Alex’nia had been there, she was all full of wonder and excitement. The planet was so peaceful that Kien’ata and he thought nothing about letting her go back to retrieve it alone. Ki’taka laid himself down the huge bed, and drifted into a deep sleep.Zentael, a planet in the Geato system. A beautiful planet that the Yautja often visited for recreation, and for teaching the very young to hunt. It was full of creatures perfect for the very young to go on their very first hunt. Creatures that wouldn’t kill them, but still gave them a challenge. The young were shown hard meat from a very young age, so they knew what they looked like, they were taught to imagine that the creatures they were hunting were hard meat.Explosions, that sounds like a plasma caster. An old yautja male comes running. “Bad-bloods, a group of them are taking over the lower settlements, they have killed twenty locals already.””Oh, No, Alex’nia went back to get her toy, which way are they heading.””East over the clearing, by the giant waterfall.””That’s where the ship is, how far ahead are they? I said how far ahead are they?”About an hour away.””It took us an hour and a half to get here, Ki’taka, what will we do, we should not have walked on when we let her go, we should have stayed where we were and waited.””She is a clever girl, we have taught her about bad-bloods and if she is anything like you she can evade being captured, you have taught her well, that much I know. I have played hunting games with her.””I know but these are real live bad-bloods she has never seen one before, oh Ki’taka I’m so scared.”Running, Runnning. A girl screaming. “No Alex’nia.””You know what we do with pretty little yautja females”. Painful groans.“That a girl Alex’nia, kick em where it hurts”.More screams and booming laughter. Five different sounds of laughter. Then they were in more pain ”Oh my head, a Mind Wanderer, lets get out of here, the little whore is not worth it.””How dare they call my baby girl a whore, they will pay, deal with them later.”A little body and a small toy shuttle near by, she was on her way back.”Oh Ki’taka, the things they were yelling, did they?”, “No, that much I can tell but she is in a great deal of pain.”Mummy, Daddy I’m sorry I tried to fight them off but I, I couldn’t, they were too big.” Breathing failing, blood everywhere, little hands squeezing, then going limp. “Nooooooo.”Ki’taka awoke drenched in sweat, he looked at the shuttle then threw it, but then went to retrieve it setting it back in place. They knew from the camera on board the ship that Alex’nia put up a great fight, she held on for as long as she could, her little body not being able to recover from the numerous cuts, bruises and broken bones she sustained, and their ships medical bay was not equipped to handle her injuries, that has all changed now. She would have made a great warrior or what ever she wanted to become. An alarm sounds in the cock-pit. Have I been asleep for that long?, Ki’taka looked out of the viewing window, the back-water planet. Ki’taka set in the last of the co-ordinates, but he would let the ships computer select the safest place to set down. He then pressed the button. In a few seconds he would land on the warmest of the Great South Lands.Note: In this story where I have added the section on families I no way imply that children from single parent families do not thrive. This chapter is sort of a little bit of back ground information to the characters and stuff, so it probably doesn’t tie in too well with the first chapter, but it’s got to be done somewhere right, keep an eye on the first chapter I may change part of the first section yet and make it look a bit better so that it is not as bulky at the beginning, easier to read and stuff. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
