On The Ship:
Maha’vin heard a loud banging followed by the com
system alerting him that someone was at his door. Though he tried to ignore it
the banging grew louder. Sleep was finally able to consume him 15 minutes ago.
His overwhelming concern for his nephew had him up for the past four days. He
growled in anger as he got up and covered himself with cloth. “Does Sa’tesh
know you’re visiting my quarters at such hours?” Maha’vin turned around and
walked towards a table.
“Please Maha’vin, go get my son,” Nam’rah panicked.
“The smaller ooman has done something to him.” She sat her map down and turned
it on. Maha’vin could see the four larger human signs still close together and
his nephew was with the smaller one.
“This means nothing Nam’rah. He could have very well
captured this ooman and is merely toying with it. He has one more day before I
get him…”
“He was never ready for this,” she roared. “He was
never properly trained. Why don’t we hunt in packs like everyone else for the
first time?”
“It’s not our way.” He watched her nervously walk back
in fourth.
“Please go now,” she begged. “Between you and me, you
know you could very well be sentencing your son to death.”
“Quiet,” he hissed. “We mated for one day.” He
remembered thinking he wanted to take her as a mate but after a day he changed
his mind. His brother was glad to take his place.
“I was quickly with child afterwards.”
“Where are your guards?”
“In the hall.”
“Are they female?” he stood up and walked closer to
her. He could tell her breathing was getting a little sporadic as she tried not
to glance at his chest.
“No, they’re males,” she finally spoke.
“How foolish Nam’rah,” he clicked his mandibles softly
near her ear making her dreads sway softly. “Your child baring musk is all over
you. They are most likely planning their attack on you at this moment. It’s
even hard for me to resist.” Maha’vin walked away. “I will get dressed and walk
you back to your quarters. Then I will depart.”
“So I should slow my breathing before striking?”
Kul’vir asked again as he held his combistick.
“Find your center,” Kayla reminded him, “Your Zazin.” Kul’vir put his mask back on and nodded at her
before camouflaging himself and leaving. Kayla smiled. A true unblooded would never leave behind some of his weapons but
Kul’vir left two of them which she safely tucked away in her bag. She knew he
was going to go kill one of the militia men she came here with. It was his
destiny and though they were human she was not going to stop him. Kayla knew
these men may not make it back alive so she carefully picked militia nomads,
with no family and a bad criminal background.
Last night she was tired and tried to sleep, but
Kul’vir shook her awake whenever he had a question. She hadn’t slept in almost
two days and her body felt fatigued. She slowly moved closer so she could watch
Kul’vir hunt the men. As she watched she suddenly felt like she wasn’t alone.
Maha’vin watched his nephew then the human female. He
was still baffled and unsure how she could move slowly like they could and pull
a weapon just as fast. Was my nephew spending his time getting to know these
ooman's instead of hunting them, he thought. Why does this ooman have
rings in her hair? Did she take them from my nephew?
Kayla knew she was being watched. She closed her eyes
and could tell by the way the trees rustled that it wasn’t the wind or a small
animal. When she opened her eyes she lost site of Kul’vir. “Shit,” she mumbled
picking up her bag and moving slowly to another location. She walked down to a
small spring she had seen a few days ago to wash her face. If he remembered
what she told him it will be a while before he strikes one of the men. Kayla
bent down and ran her hand in the cool water. If she thought it was safe she
would go to sleep right there near the spring but she knew she was still being
watched. She could hear a low growl behind her. It wasn’t a Yautja growl. She
remained still for a moment. Listening to the growl she could tell the panther
was only a few yards away.
This ooman is about to die, yet she is so calm, Maha’vin thought to himself. She is a warrior of
her kind. Better than some male ooman warriors. Before he could blink the
panther started to charge at her. He watched Kayla quickly retrieve a shuriken
from her bag and sliced the charging animal’s throat in one swift motion. She
barely looked behind her yet she was able to slice the wild animals head off, Maha’vin
listened carefully to her heartbeat. It was calm and steady. “She has a
shuriken,” he growled softly.
Kayla felt as though she was being tested. Watched, to see if she was even worthy enough to communicate with.
She knew it was an experienced warrior. She washed her blade in the water
before snapping it twice to its closing position. Now she had to do something
she’s only done once in her lifetime, and the last time it made her so sick she
threw up. Kayla thought her father was crazy for preparing her for something
she would never do. Now she felt like he didn’t prepare her enough. She took
out the Ceremonial Dagger. She heard another growl. This time it was in the
large tree across the spring. She proceeded to skin the head of the panther
down to the bone.
Kul’vir has not been here long enough to teach the
skills this ooman possess, Maha’vin climbed down from the tree and checked his
map once he heard the rapid gun fire. He still saw his nephew’s life sign and
one of the male humans. He let out a soft trill. He watched the human as she
finished cleaning the animal and stuff the head in her bag. He didn’t
understand why she chose to hide her trophy.
Kayla walked back towards the camp site to see Kul’vir
holding the spine and heads of three men. He let out a loud roar as he held up
his kill. Kayla didn’t see the bodies and she didn’t want to know where they
were. Kayla nodded her head in approval. She watched him as he bent down to
finish cleaning the skulls. She didn’t know what kind of liquid he was using
but when he was done they were almost as shiny as a marble. He carefully took
off his mask to talk with her. His mandibles clicked softly and he bowed his
head to her. Kayla didn't think 'thank you' was in their vocabulary. Though he
didn't say it out loud, a bow was good enough for her. “You’re welcome,” she
said out loud but he tilted his head to the side not fully understanding her.
In turn Kayla bowed her head to him.
“Uncle,” Kul’vir looked in her direction. Maha’vin
noticed her heart started to beat quicker when she slowly turned around. It was
steady when she killed the animal.
Kayla turned around and looked up at the Yautja whom
was a foot taller than his nephew. His mask was in his hand and he had on full
body armor. He looked down at Kayla and held her stare. His eyes reminded her
of an angry wild lion. His mandibles opened as they stared at one another.
“Explain,” he growled not looking at Kayla any longer.
Kul’vir handed him the parchment paper. He snatched it from his nephew as he
looked at Kayla once more before looking down.
Kul’vir went and stood next to Kayla and bent down so
only she could hear him. “Don’t worry, I will protect you.”
“Shut up,” Maha’vin barked. He couldn’t believe what
he was reading but, as a last honor to his father he could not ignore the
words. “You speak of this to your father and I will kill you.”
“But uncle, you are suppose to be the elder,” Kul’vir
began, but his uncles angry roar hushed him. He walked over to Kayla and looked
at her carefully.
“Do you understand me?”
“Yes,” she said softly.
Maha’vin let out a soft chuckle as he turned to his
nephew. He took out a tool as he beckoned his nephew over. Kayla looked at it
carefully. To her it looked like a soldering iron. It burned the clans symbol
onto the young mans head with ease. Maha’vin then turned to her. “You hunted
with my nephew. You may have even taught him. It’s your turn.”
“Uncle,” Kul’vir tried to protest. Maha’vin hissed at
him.
Kayla nodded her head softly. Maha’vin stood in front
of her. “You do understand if you flinch or show any signs of weakness I will
kill you. After all, my father said you follow the same code and ethics.”
“Just get it over with,” she mumbled. She closed her
eyes and awaited the pain. Kul’vir made a clicking noise causing Kayla to open
her eyes. Maha’vin gave her a nod for her bravery before walking off. He wasn’t
done with her yet.
They walked down to the creek and Maha’vin’s shuttle
appeared before them.
Kayla looked at Kul’vir before placing her hand on his
shoulder. “You be well. And maybe we will cross paths again.” She nodded at
Maha’vin and turned to walk away.
“Since you are part of our clan you will live with us
as such,” Maha’vin said stopping her. “You will come with us. That’s not a
request.” He walked closer to her. “After all, you are now part of my clan. Whether I like it or not.”
Kayla watched his chest rise and fall before looking
up into his piercing eyes. His body looked like it was chiseled out of a
yellowish green stone.
“Are you in heat ooman?”
“Of course not,” she laughed in disbelief but he
didn’t believe her. She walked closer to the ship then stopped. “Are their any
other ooman's on board?”
“None that’s living,” Maha’vin chuckled. He took her
bag and looked inside. He knew she would have camera equipment and he was
right.
“What are you doing?” she demanded to know as he took
the equipment and dropped it on the ground. He smashed it to pieces with one
step before tossing her bag back to her.
“Making your load lighter.”
