For two nights, he had managed to avoid his Sire. It had not been easy: he was the Regent, after all, and his duties expected him to spend some time with the ruling Elder, even for purely business-like reasons.
Kraven had spent much time in his own chambers, appearing publicly only when it was absolutely necessary. He knew he couldn’t keep this up forever, though. He was doomed to confront Viktor sometime, and as they were living under the same roof, he feared it might happen pretty soon.
He also wondered if the Elder was mad. Viktor really didn’t have any right to be. True, Kraven had caught him in a very compromising position, but the Regent didn’t think any of it was his fault. He had knocked on the door - several times - and after not getting an answer, he’d looked inside purely out of concern for his Sire.
Although… there was the question why he had stayed to watch. Kraven really didn’t know the answer to that himself. He’d simply been… mesmerized.
On the third night after the incident, Kraven simply couldn’t hide anymore. He was angry with himself for letting it affect him so strongly and with Viktor for… well, for simply not locking his door before indulging in such activities!
Shortly after sundown, he dressed in a stylish, dark attire and left his chambers, heading for the kitchen area. This early in the evening, no other Vampires should be there, and he needed some time alone to prepare for his inevitable confrontation with Viktor. Maybe he should simply pay his Sire another visit to explain himself? Although he’d have to figure out what to say beforehand…
Kraven only met one Vampire on his way to the kitchen, and that was a lowly house servant. Normally he wasn’t up at this hour, and the servant girl was clearly surprised to see him.
When he reached his destination, the Regent instantly realized that Fate would not be kind to him tonight, either. The kitchen was already occupied by none other than… Viktor! The Elder sat in a chair by the table, dressed very informally in a wine-red silk robe, sipping casually on some heated blood. A thick book with silver covers lay opened before him, but Viktor was not reading the words written on the pages. Instead he was absently gazing out through the window at the still darkening sky.
Kraven very nearly swallowed his own heart when he laid eyes on Viktor and spun on his heel, making a 180 degree turn as he once again prayed that the other man hadn’t seen him.
“Kraven, wait!” Viktor’s sharp, commanding voice called out. “You are definitely not leaving! Not until we’ve talked about what happened… three nights ago. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you,” he added sarcastically.
Despite the urge to simply run away again, Kraven halted and slowly turned around. He realized that Viktor was right; they couldn’t just keep on avoiding each other for all eternity because of a… stupid incident like this.
But even though he was now facing the Elder, he could not look into Viktor’s eyes. Viktor was looking at him, though, and the other Vampire’s hard, icy stare was making his insides cold.
“Kraven, I can no longer stand this situation,” Viktor continued in a softer tone. “We need to… sort some things out. Can you look at me, at least?”
The younger Vampire reluctantly raised his eyes.
“Don’t you agree?” the Elder continued pressuring.
“I suppose so…” Kraven murmured.
“Sit down,” Viktor said, gesturing at the chair opposite him. “Oh, and that wasn’t a request.”
The Regent complied, still feeling uncomfortable when he seated himself at the table. Was he supposed to say something now? His cheeks were already burning with embarrassment, and he had to fight not to avert his gaze from Viktor’s. “I… I’m sorry…” he stuttered finally. “Please forgive me for… intruding on your privacy, my Lord… I didn’t mean to…”
Viktor silenced him with an elegant wave of his hand. “You don’t have to apologize for that,” he said. “It could have happened to anyone, I suppose… And I felt foolish for not locking my door before I…” The sentence trailed off, and a hint of embarrassment could be seen in the Elder’s face, as well. “However, I am more curious of why you ran and why you’ve been avoiding me these last few nights. And why you stayed in the doorway for so long…”
Kraven swallowed and realized that he was hyperventilating. What was this? An interrogation? Was Viktor trying to make him feel worse than he already did? “I said I was sorry, my Lord…” he murmured. “What more can I say… It was an awkward moment…”
“True,” Viktor agreed. It had been an awkward - and frightening - moment for him too, when he discovered that he was no longer alone in his chamber. And Kraven was really the last person he had expected to see… “I suppose that a youngling like yourself can’t quite comprehend that someone as old as I still indulge in carnal pleasures.”
Kraven literally jerked in his chair. “I wasn’t…!” he objected vehemently, but Viktor simply let out an amused chuckle.
“Did you like what you saw, Kraven?” he asked.
Kraven felt his jaw drop again. “I beg you pardon, my Lord…?”
“I asked if you liked what you saw? Answer me. Did you?”
“I…I… I was…” The Regent’s brain couldn’t compose anything coherent right now. What was he supposed to say? In truth, he had enjoyed what he saw, very much. The image of his Sire splayed out naked in the bed with an unmistakable look of intense pleasure on his face had been very satisfying, indeed. And contrary to Viktor’s beliefs, Kraven did not find him old at all. At least not in a negative way.
But would it be appropriate to let Viktor know that? Revealing the truth could cause further tension between them, but a lie could do as much damage, if not more. So Kraven decided to be honest. Viktor deserved that much.
“Yes, I liked what I saw,” he admitted, sighing.
The Elder snorted softly and repressed the urge to laugh out loud. Did this mean that Kraven found him attractive? He certainly hoped so. The beautiful, raven-haired Vampire had been the object of Viktor’s desire for over a century, but he’d always believed that Kraven, even though the boy was rather promiscuous, found him too old to be attractive. So he’d never expressed his desires. But maybe now was a good time to… escalate things?
Viktor rose from his seat and slowly walked around the table over to Kraven’s side. He carefully placed his hands on the Regent’s shoulders, rubbing them reassuringly when he felt Kraven tense up.
“Don’t be frightened, Kraven…” he cooed in a voice very different from his usual severe, authoritative pitch that made people obey his smallest command in the blink of an eye. “I am not going to hurt you…”
Bringing his face close to Kraven’s neck, Viktor inhaled his scent. The younger Vampire smelled very fresh of soap and newly washed hair, and the Elder’s nostrils savoured the fragrance.
“My Lord? Viktor…?” Kraven murmured anxiously when the Elder’s hands pressed him down and the distance between them had shrunk to zero. Viktor was right behind him… so close that Kraven could feel his body heat!
“Relax…” Viktor cut him off, and this time it sounded like an order. If Kraven had been uncomfortable a few minutes ago, it was nothing against how he felt now! But on the other hand… he felt something else too, which was not discomfort or embarrassment; a small tingle in the pit of his stomach, signalling that a part of him enjoyed the close proximity to his Sire.
Then Viktor spoke again, and his words increased that small tingle tenfold. “If you like what you saw three nights ago, then maybe you would like to come with me to my quarters and do more than just… look?”
Kraven didn’t know how it happened, but he felt himself nod, and before he even knew it, Viktor had seized his hand and started leading him out of the kitchen toward his personal chambers…
