The night gave way to day as what was left of the moon traversed across the sky and sank into the Western horizon and the two suns rose above the NorthEast and SouthEast horizons. All this time, Sakura slept peacefully through it all as one of her sleves acted a sort of sleeping mask as it rested gently against her face. It wasn't untill the suns were well in the sky when Sakura rolled over onto her right side and the sleve fell off her face. Even though she laid in the shaded side of the tree, some small patches of sunlight were able to shine through the branches and a couple of them shined on her face.
Sakura whined a little at the bright light that hit her left eye. She scrunched up her eyelids before she finally opened her eyes and looked around a bit with bleary eyes. She blinked a couple times to clear her vision as she sat up and looked around to find that Chamberlain was gone. Sakura frowned at this, sad that her new friend had vanished and left no indication as to where he would be found or if she would ever see him again. She then had to push this to the back of her mind as she felt hungry gnawing on her stomach. Grumbling at this, she got moved out of a sitting position to a kneeling position and then stood up without having to push herself up off the ground.
"Well, I guess I better find something to eat then," Sakura said as her stomach growled lightly at her. She was about to collect her cloak and lantern when she heard a vaugly familar noise. She looked around at eye level first only to find nothing out of the ordinary and it was only when she heard the noise again did she look up. There, up amongst the branches of the tree she was standing under, was a pure white Crystal Bat. At first, Sakura was awed by the fact that this was the first white one she had ever seen and curious as to why it was u the the tree. Then she noticed that it was holding something in its tallons. Sakura focused her attention upon it and gasped lightly to see that it was the necklace meant for the Choseen One.
Crafted from 13 inch long black cord, it was laced with what looked to be bleached white fangs or tallons and bore a shiney black orb that represented the new moon. Just as Sakura began to register the fact that today was the Day of Chossing, the bat flapped its wings a couple times before it took to the air. Sakura stood ready to chase after the bat as all thoughts of her belongings fled from her mind. Yet, instead of flying off to the village the bat began to fly circles around Sakura. She tilted her head at this, curious as to why the bat would be doing this. Then, in the blink of an eye, the bat released the necklace and it landed at Sakura's feet.
Sakura froze up in shock as she watched the necklace fall through the air as quiet as snow. Her knees began to wobble before they finally gave out underneath her and she fell to her knees. As she knelt in the long grass, her arung ung limply at her sides as she stared ahead with a zone out look in her eyes. Her mind was flooded with shock and fear as the words "I'm the Chossen One" repeated themselves in her mind like a sacred mantra. Sakura's trance was broken the moment she heard a loud noise from the tree. She looked up and saw that the bat had returned to the tree. As she stared at itr mir mind began to clear and she remembered the threat that was issued if someone tried to escape again. With a sigh, Sakura stood up and then bowed respectfully to the bat.
"I will honor the pact," she said and stood back up as the bat let out a small squeak before it left the tree and landed on her shoulder. Sakura smiled faintly at this as she nuzzled the creature with her index finger and it nuzzled her face. She then collected her things and made her way back to the village as she munched quietly on random wild berries that she could find along the way.
"You're being awfully calm about this," came a gruff male voice from the bat, Sakura vaugely recognized it as the same one that issued the warning.
"Why shouldn't I be?" Sakura asked absentmindly.
"You're the Chossen One," the voice replied.
"Yes, that means I have a duty to fullfill the pact for the village...and my family," Sakura said, the last part heavy with saddness as she came across a patch of strawberries and she stopped to kneel down and pick a couple.
"You're very mature for your age," the voice said.
"If you say so," Sakura replied before she bit into a strawberry. The rest of the walk was a quiet one and Sakura left the woods before she knew it. As she approached the village, she could sense that the agitation was still in the air and it was mixed with fear. Sakura walked into the village and amongst the simple wooden structures that served as home. As she made her way home, she looked around and noticed that no one was noticing her. They were to busy being worried or confussed as they watched the skies for the bat.
Sakura was close to home when her mother stepped out of the hut and looked left before she looked right and saw her daughter. Sakura stopped in her tracks as her mother glared at her and stormed over to her.
"Where ha...oh god no," her mother started in the typical 'you are in so much trouble young lady' tone of voice and it changed to shock when she saw both the bat and the necklan San Sakura. Needless to say, the sudden change of tone attracted the attention of several people and they looked over to see that Sakura was the Chossen One. Their surprise attracted the attention of more and more people like a giant Domino effect. It didn't take long for Sakura's father to hear the news and he rushed over to his hut and arrived to see his stunned wife staring at their daughter.
"Mother?" Sakura asked tentivally. Her voice was enough to snap the older woman of hof her trance and she was thrown into a rage as she shouted angrily and lunged for her daughter. Sakura shriked and moved backwards only to fall over her own two feet.
"No!" shouted both the voice from the bat and the father as the man hurried over, took hold of his wife in his strong arms and held her back as two women rushed over to Sakura to see if she was allright.
"No! Let go of me!" the older woman shrieked as she struggled to free herself from her husband's strong grip.
"Hold yourself woman, you've gone mad," her husband said.
"Nay! It is she who's gone mad, playing a cruel prank on me," the woman shouted as she glared at her own daughter.
"It's not a prank mother," Sakura pleaded tears threaten to fall from her eyes. The woman didn't listen to her and continued to struggle as the crowd around them stood there and murmured amongst themselves.
"She is the Chossen One," came the same voice as before, this time filled with anger. Sakura's mother stopped her struggles and focused her attention on the bat as her anger was washed away by shock.
"She can't be, she wasn't in the village."
"Neither were four of the past Chossen Ones," the voice said.
"No! You already took one of my children," the woman pleaded.
"And she will be taken as well, the choice has been made and it can't be broken," the voice said.
"No," the mother said as she her legs gave out beneath her and she began to sob as her husband held her weight.
"Mother," Sakura said sadly as she felt the sorrow radiating off her mother. Yet she wasn't allowed to go over and comfort her mother, she imeditally was taken away from her fmaily and moved into the hut that was set aside for the Chossen One where she was to remain for the next three days. Once the two were alone, the bat left Sakura's shoulder and it went over to a small tree that had been place in the hut for the bat. As it preened itself, Sakura ed aed around at her surroundings. It was a fairly large hut with room for a roll out bed, cooking fire in the middle of the room, several chairs and a small square table. After taking in her surroundings, Sakura sat down in one of the chairs and stared at her hands as they sat in her lap. After a couple moments, Sakura finally broke down and cried.
