Accepting an offer from a stranger
Mort got up and hopped into his jeans and a t-shirt and was typing away at his keyboard with a half an ear of corn nearby and a mountain dew on morning sip mode.
He started to get hungry and figured a sandwhich at the cafe in town was what the doctor ordered so he piled into his SUV and headed into town.
Meanwhile, Sara had just woken up, and wanted something to eat. So normally, she got out of bed, changed from her nightgown into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. She walked down stairs, still wiping her eyes, trying to stay awake.
One problem, there was nothing to eat, so she decided to head out into town, and stop by a cafe some place, and have some breakfast.
Grabbing her keys, and opening the door, she locked the door, and headed towards her car. Then headed into town.
He drove up to the cafe and got out heading inside, the townsfolk really detested him being in town but no one said anything they just looked hard at him and tried to make him uncomfortable, none of it seemed to phase him however
Nothing seemed to please her that day. Not even how beautiful the sky looked, or how the sun shone down upon the city. Maybe she was just cranky, after all, she had just woken up. She arrived at the cafe, and got out of her car, but she noticed that all of the people looked afraid, like something or someone had frightened them. At first, she hesitated to walk inside, her mind kept telling her no, but her stomach told her something different.
Mort was sitting at the counter smiling at people mercilessly and trying to order from a staff that seemed to want to have dental surgury nude and without painkillers rather than say word one to him
She walked in through the door, and looked around, and saw nothing that she suspected to be harmful. Maybe they were all just paranoid, or maybe she was. But her mind stopped thinking, and her stomach started to growling. Finally, she sat down at the counter, ready to order some food
"Well hello there..." He smiled at the woman he hadn't met and who did not give him the evil eye.
Sara looked at the man speaking to her, feeling as though she knew him from somewhere, but didn't know where.. "Hello.."
"You new to town?" he asked.
"Yeah, just moved here all the way from London.." she replied
"Really? I'm Mort," he offered a hand
She accepted without hesitation. "I'm Sara."
"Pleasure to meet you Sara, you have a house around town or you at the hotel?" Mort asked.
"I'm staying with my sister, and her boyfriend for now, but I'm looking foward to actually getting a house here.." she answered, happily.
"Great, it'll do us good to have some fresh blood in town,"
Sara quirked a brow, and frowned abit but he just kept on talking.
"I have the lakeside cabin off route 14. Some of the nicest land in the area if you ever want to stop by."
"I just might do that.." her frown was replaced with a smile.
"What do you do for a living?" he asked out of curios
"I interview writers for a periodical called the "Writer's Journal," where they have columns published about writers, and their upcoming books, and so forth," she was porud of her job, and didn't hesitate to brag about it, even though she'd been rather cut short lately.."
"Interesting.. You ever hear of Mort Rainey?"
That name sounded so familiar, then it struck her.
"Oh yes.. "Everybody drops the dime".. I remember..."
"Yeah, want a signed copy?," he offered.
"Sure." Sara didn't expect this. Who would've known that she's actually run into somebody her first day here in Tashmore Lake.
"Come over to the cabin I'll sign one for you.." he said.
"Alright then.." once again she accepted an offer from a stranger.
