((p.s. sorry for repeating the chapter! it was a mistake!))
Hours later, a warm and soft voice spoke, gently rousing her from her anasthesia.
"Nero... It's time you woke up..." *slowly my eyes flutter open and i frown trying to see properly as my eyes try and focus* hm? Gently nudging her, Laserbeak caressed her tear-streaked cheek, attempting to get her to focus. *slowly focussing i smile weakly blinking away tears and say in a soft weak voice* mm sorry lazerbeak~ "Sorry?" the spy vulture queried, his optics whirring her into a sharper view. "For what?" *sighs softly and closes eyes mumbling* for always being more trouble than im worth.... "Little fleshling..." the Decepticon chuckled, still caressing her cheek, brushing away the tears that once again began to fall. "... you think so little of yourself..." Laying down beside her, curling up in the manner of a large metal cat seeking heat from the human's small body, Laserbeak spread his wing over her in the manner in which he had become accustomed to do to protect and calm her. "To us..." he spoke, honesty strengthening his every word "you are worth the world." *weakly snuggling close i listen my eyes closed. hearing his honest words i blush faintly and give a small tired smile looking at him* thankyou~ *snuggles close. is still sad. mumbbles quietly*.....except for one.... Enveloping her in his steel embrace, the mechanical alien let his cheek rest against her hair. "Barricade?" my small head nods slightly sadly making no effort to move. still has yet to notice hand* "Sweet little Nero..." Laserbeak vented with a sigh, surprised at how deeply he too had begun to feel for the small human female that had come to be a part of their faction. "... he is the one who cares for you the most." *frowning i slowly lift my head sniffling alittle* b-but ....i....he said....*frowns more confused and making a cute face* "...that he only wanted you as a plaything - " Laserbeak echoed the Saleen's words. " -a living toy that he could enjoy until you'd break?" Moving his maw closer to the small and delicate shell of her ear, the vulture spoke again, so quietly only Nero could hear. "Those were his exact words, were they not?" *my heart clenches painfully and with a soft whimper of sadness i nod my eyes tearing up once more whispering back brokenly* y-yes..... "That was before he fell in love with you, fleshling..." *i go deathly still my heart even missing a beat and i look at you eyes wide* w-wha? w-why didnt he say? *i pause and realise id run away as soon as id heard his words. i dip my head embarrassed* o-oh.... Waiting for his words to sink in, the vulture drew the covers up around Nero's small form, keeping her warm. In the darkness of the vast Decepticon sick-bay could be seen the silhouette of the crimson medic, at work beside his desk. Turning his gaze to Nero once more, Laserbeak gave her a sad smile. "He never thought he deserved you." *i look down sadly and nod. looking to the vulture again i ask quietly* d-do you know where he is? *my eyes hopefull* "No." came the blunt reply. "He left when he thought you rejected him." "He'll come back..." Knockout's voice could be heard from the shadows, his optics glowing red as he turned his gaze to look at the injured girl and the small avian spy. "He just needs to cool down." Laserbeak nodded. "We know him. He's like a brother to us. He will return." *looking down i nod sighing softly. raising my head to listen to the medic i nod and give a small smile* thankyou...i hope your right...*i sigh softly and lift my hand to move my hair from my face and freeze seeing it* w-wha? Getting up from his massive chair, Knockout walked up to the berth where Nero lay, explanation ready for her. "Your injuries were such..." he began as softly as he could "...that I had to make a swift desiscion." Seating himself beside Nero, he continued "Your hand, or your life. I suppose I've made the right desiscion?" Glancing at her injured limb, the medic sighed. "Nihilus decided to go through with a procedure that has never before been sucessful... until now." Nodding toward her limb, he vented a sigh and explained further. "Your hand has been replaced with Cybertronian parts..." he said, somewhat unsure of how to continue. "but in order for them to attach to your flesh, you had to go through a procedure we call "the Fusion", a complicated procedure, so far sucessful only in theory." *i stare at my hand eyes wide breath still hitched shocked. timidly i flex the fingers* "All the other specimen subjected to this died." Knockout explained. "You did not." Touching her servo with his own, the Decepticon sent a small current of energy racing from his fingers to hers. *listening i nod slowly. as he does i gasp and flinch in surprise* w-wha? *i blink wide innocent eyes up at him* "Good." the medic smiled as the girl reacted to the touch. "No human would have felt that." he said, pleased at the result. "You did." *i blush and nod timidly shyly inspecting my own hand. i frown wondering how barricade will react to this. peering up at him from my spot comfortably curled close to the avian mech i ask* w-what does this mean for me? d-does this change anything? "It changes everything." Laserbeak said, his voice soft as he spoke. "The Fusion has brought together your human flesh with our Cybertronian metal. You are no longer completely human." Gripping her mechanical hand with his claw, Laserbeak gave her a smile unlike every smile he had given her before. "Sister." *my eyes widen in wonder as he says this and i blush smiling as laserbeak takes ahold of the slim metalic fingers. blushing i beam a smile and hug the vulture carefully happily while beaming a slightly teary smile up at the medic* thankyou~ Nodding toward her, Knockout answered her smile. "Now, you need to rest." Agreeing, the spy vulture let her embrace him, his affection for her growing with every spin of his spark. "... and eat." *smiling and yawning i nod but hearing him say eat i groan softly and mumble childishly* don wanna~ *pouts* Eyeing her down, Knockout noted her reluctance to eat. "Laserbeak informed me it has been two days, or even more since you ate last, Nero..." he scalded her gently. "...now, if you won't eat, then I'll have to administer nourishment to you via tube-feeding... not very pleasant..." * pouting i mumble playfully with a sparkle in my eye looking laserbeak in the eye* traitor,....*then giggles and sighs slowly sitting up* fine....mnot hungry tho *pouts and pokes tongue out childishly at the medic again just being cheeky* Chuckling, the medic patted the small human on the head, then nodding toward Laserbeak who sat up, looking mighty pleased with himself with his effort of "betrayal". "I'll have a drone serve you something to eat." Knockout said, still chuckling. "And you better eat up." *blushes and gives a mildly irked look my hair ruffled from his touch as i sit there pouting like a child. i cant help but giggle slightly tho when i see the vultures smug look and i shake my head. hearing his words i gron softly and grumble* yes sir~ *cheekily* *saluting* Leaving the two to their own conversation and to Nero's rest, Knockout returned to his station beside the immense desk, resuming his work after issuing orders to a drone to present the human with something to eat. *inspecting my hand i suddnely gasp and check my pockets then curse quietly looking to laserbeak hopefully* my blade? "You're done with that sort of human nonsense." Laserbeak informed her. "You are becoming one of us, a Decepticon. We do not engage in such behaviour." *bushing i nod and yawn cutely rubbing my eyes. sighing softly i look down at my "new" hand and ask quietly*...do....do you think barricade is upset with me? "Why would he be?" asked the vulture, curling himself up against her to aid her in maintaining her heat in the chill of the vast subterranean room. *snuggling close i shrug slightly and sigh* because i ran off without letting him finish... "If anyone else had done what you did-" Laserbeak spoke "-he would have ripped her head off before she took two steps away from him." Pausing, he gave her a steady look, his optics truthful. "So... no. He's not upset with you." *blushing beat red eyes wide i nod timidly and remain quiet.giving a soft groan as a drone brings in food i sigh and eat somequietly* Driving on through the darkening white landscape, the snow near blinding him as it pelted his vehicle form, caking thick against his grille and the sensors he used to navigate, Barricade sped onward, his spark burning with self loathing and remorse. He had never felt love for any being before, neither Cybertronian, nor human, and now that he did, and had poured his spark before her feet, and for once told her the truth, she had rejected him, and rightfully so. He deserved it. Not caring where his wheels took him, he shut off his sensors, ignoring the base that had, for hours now, been trying to reach him. In the falling darkness, the landscape that was barely visible through the thick curtains of snow that relentlessly came down from above, turned cobalt blue, then darker and darker until he saw nothing. Not bothering to turn his headlights on, he swerved away from the main road and out on a field, the only thought in his mind to come away from the base, and away from the human he knew he would never possess. He had been so foolish. How could he, a mere scout, a rogue, an outcast and an assassin of her race, expect her to love him? He had been foolishly close to asking her if she wanted to be his. His spark-mate. Turning off all sensors, the Saleen drove blindly now. Decepticons mated for life. It happened before he managed to react. Driving without sight, nor sense, the Saleen slammed straight into the oncoming vehicle, the force of the impact so great it nearly terminated him. Feeling his armour twist and bend as though made of aluminium foil, tears ripping open as the collision vaulted him into the air and down onto the rocky ground where he slid, on his side, to a painful halt against the skeleton trunk of a dead tree. Gasping with pain, Barricade tried to assess the situation, his senses too battered for him to grasp what had happened, and so he lay, dazed on his side, half in vehicle form, and half his own, unable to move, optics frantically trying to see through the snow, his night vision damaged. A shape moved before him in the darkness of the howling blizzard. Azure blue flecks of light hovered above his damaged form, approaching him. "It's affirmative." a deep voice could be heard over the wind, unmistakeable and steady as the firmament of the Universe itself. "We have the Decepticon." -Optimus. *as i sat still i flinched a feeling of dread pooling in my gut. frowning i sigh and continue trying to sleep oblivious to whats happening* Raising his head from his shallow slumber, Laserbeak blinked as he felt her slight shift in heartbeat and breathing. "What's the matter, Sister?" he asked, stretching from his position beside her on the mattress. *still holding a frown i say is a soft but resalute voice*....somethings wrong....i can feel it *im quiet for while more before my head snaps up and i look at him quickly my eyes worried* barricade! Optics whirring into sharp focus, the vulture shot up from her side in one sweep of his steel wings. "Are you sure?" he asked sharply, his voice echoeing through the dark sick-bay. "Raise the alert!" *eyes wide and worried i nod* positive! i can feel it! Darting toward the medic, scrambling for the intercom, Laserbeak grasped the device, screeching in Cybertronian into the receiver when the line opened. Somehow, some of the words he uttered, made sense. "Send a drone!" the vulture ordered. "...I don't give a scrap if it's against the protocol!" he screeched, cursing in his strange alien tongue, more and more words making sense. "... even if I have to locate him myself!" *my eyes wide after he finishes i ask* h-how come i can understand you? Halting in mid air, breath venting rapidly, Laserbeak clawed at the air in anger over the received answer, sputtering a particularly nasty curse over the Decepticon he had spoken with. His flame-coloured optics snapping toward Nero as she asked, angered as he was with the protocol he, himself had followed countless times before when a Decepticon was in peril due to it's own volition, knowing that what he was about to do was near suicide, he gave up a blood-curdling noise, cursing once more over what he thought was to be done with the protocol, and turned to Knockout, calling out to him as he vaulted past him and out into the corridor. "You tell her!" *clutching my sensitive ears i wince and watch on worriedly whimpering softly wanting to help but unsure of what to do* Watching Laserbeak leave, Knockout sighed and shrugged, his narrow, feline optics saddened. "You know what we are saying because of the Fusion." *frowning i nod and try to get down of the decepticon size berth wanting to find out whats wrong with barricade* Keeping her down with a servo, Knockout shook his head. "You are staying here, Sister." he ordered. "You are too weak to go anywhere!" *i squeak as im pushed back down and look up at him like a kicked puppy* b-but barricade....somethings wrong...he needs help~! "There is nothing you can do, Nero." the Decepticon medic sighed, still holding the human down against her will. "All we can do is hope Laserbeak manages to locate him, before..." *my eyes snap to him wide and fearfull* b-before what? "Before the Autobots find him..." a seedy voice resounded from the entrance to the sick-bay, as a tall figure, lanky and brooding stepped in to greet Knockout with a mocking grin, bowing his head to Nero, his red optics narrowing. Looking up at the sound of the Cybertronian voice, the Decepticon medic frowned. "Do you perhaps have information about your SUPERIOUR'S whereabouts that you have kept from us, Starscream?" the crimson medic snapped back. *i frown my anger and worry rising. unknowingly reverberating energy slightly as i listen* Snorting with affront, the tall Decepticon strode in to look down upon the smaller medic, his calculating optics filled with resentment and loathing. "I might..." Starscream disclosed, disregarding the angered girl with a dismissive look. "But why should I impart such knowledge to you?" he queried, his tone low and threatening. Walking up to where Nero half lay, reaching the berth in one long stride, the demoted Starscream eyed the human with tempered disgust. "Ever since that... bag of flesh came into our lives..." he gestured toward her as though speaking of a pile of toxic waste "-the otherwise perfect morale in our ranks have been dwindling!" Huffing with annoyance at the sight of her, he turned his back toward her, purposely dismissing her. "In less than a week, this... human... has managed to murder a fully capable Decepticon Lord, and an outstanding Commander, " the tall Decepticon went on " - she has turned the processors of many fine warriors... oh, excuse me..." he interrupted himself sarcastically, tracing his words back "... I mean... former warriors, off course... and has now managed to entrance our new second in command into thoughtlessly, and carelessly slip into the hands of our enemy!" *dipping my head sadly i find tears come to my innocent eyes. lifting my new hand i move my hair from my face and try and blink back tears as they run down my cheeks. looking up meeting the red gaze of starscream i say softly* i-im sorry.....*my eyes sad but full of innocence* Bending down to look at her, his gaunt, angular face close to her's, so close that the crimson shutter-swirls, glowing from his optics could easily be discerned, the former second in command gave up a cold chuckle, one of his servos coming to rest upon the vast berth upon which she lay. "Are you?" Rapping with his claw-like fingers against the mattress, the brooding Decepticon let the claw of one index slip in underneath her chin, forcing her head up to meet his gaze. "Shall I tell you of the Decepticon Law?" he asked cruelly, an amused smile spreading across his smooth facial plates. "Stated in the Chrome Plates..." Starscream began "It is clear to any Cybertronian that one who carelessly puts other at risque during times of war, is to expect no help, no rescue, and - should he or she return to their designated base - no quarter." Pausing to let the words sink in, Starscream watched her face, with the eager intent of a predator about to strike it's prey. "Should said... traitor... return" he vented, relishing the moment "... the punishment is usually death, or, in milder cases... life long banishment." *frowning i say back tilting my head to the side cutely ignoring the sharp talon under my soft chin* but barricade has not put another at risk.....nor is he a traitor~ *blinks innocently* your argument is invalid~ *my bright wide eyes flicker slightly* "Hasn't he?" smiled Starscream cruelly. "In that case, I have news for you, *fleshling*..." Forcing his claw slightly upward until it drew blood, but not enough to truly harm the girl, the Decepticon projected a blurred 3 D image onto her lap, a miniature image of the Saleen being led away by Optimus. Flecks of snow distorting the image somewhat. "I followed him." Starscream chuckled. "To see where he was going, and this... is it." "You would do wisely to return to find him then, since you clearly were too terrified to take my brother on..." the voice of Nihilus thundered behind the Decepticon. Turning, the tall Starscream seemed to shrink before the black Prime, who's optics pinned him down with a mere gaze. "I know what you are, Starscream." Nihilus spoke, his voice dangerously void of emotion, but holding a dark promise of retaliation "-and I was counting on you to act precisely as you have done now." Red optics wavering, Starscream tried backing away from the advancing Prime, only to find himself trapped against the berth where Nero lay. "You are pathetically predictable..." vented Nihilus, striding closer. "Just the way I needed you to be..." "M-my Lord?" Stopping before the cowering Decepticon, Nihilus stood, albeit shorter than the demoted Starscream, towering above him, as the now nervously fidgeting mechanical alien shrunk back to avoid the impending wrath of his new Commander. "I knew someone was plotting..." Nihilus turned, offering the demoted warrior a true chance at attacking his un-protected back "... and now I know who." Keeping silent, remembering all to well what had befalled his former Commander, Starscream wisely remained still. "and for this... treachery..." the Prime kept his back toward him as he spoke "... you know full well what you are facing..." Remaining deadly quiet, colour draining from his optics, his slender servos trembling slightly, Starscream swallowed nervously. "However..." the Prime turned, looking at the cowering creature, "...you have proven to be of better use to me alive than dead, and so, I am offering you your life, in return, off course, for your obedience and loyalty." *i whimper and wince slightly as he draws blood. blinking back tears i watch nervously. im relieved the moment i hear nihilus voice. shifting back away from the jet as i wipe the blood off my now sore chin i watch worried and hoping against all odds that barricade is ok. watching in awe as the previously preening jet cowers in fear* "As you are so keen on divulging secrets - " Nihilus spoke, his optics fixed on Starscream who dared not return the gaze for fear of reprisals "- why don't you tell your superiour's sparkmate exactly why you have tried to overthrow your "beloved" Lord, and former commander?" Mouth tightening to a thin line, agony showing in his optics, Starscream turned his face away, shaking his head in refusal to speak. "You WILL tell us." Nihilus spoke, his voice rasping forth a hidden menace. "Or else, by Primus, you will suffer the same fate as him!" Still refusing to speak, the tall Decepticon began trembling as though he had been injured. "Well?" "I... can't..." "You will if you want to live... Tell us, Starscream... why you hated Megatron." Venting in and out as though he was in severe distress, his voice barely discernable, the demoted Decepticon finally spoke. "I... loved him."While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
