(Ba’naj Ship)
He sat on the floor in the sparring room and waited for
Kayla’s sons. Ba’naj looked at his knife and twirled it in his hands as he
thought of the last time he was with Kayla.
(Flashback)
Ba’naj
paced back and forth in the small training room Kayla asked him to meet her in.
He was a little disturbed by her message. Kayla never asked to meet at night
under any circumstances. He knew something must have been wrong. She was
avoiding him for weeks. For the first time ever he lied to his mates. He told
them Sa’dar wanted to talk to him and he will be back much later. When she
walked in she smiled at him.
“So
there is nothing wrong?” he growled at her.
“Yes
there is,” Kayla walked up to him. Ba’naj looked down at her, waiting for her
to finish. “The problem is I’m not with you at night.”
Ba’naj
tilted his head to the side, not fully understanding her. “Explain.”
“I do
not want to spend another moment not being your mate,” Kayla blurted as she
stepped back from him. “Ba’naj, my pups are now mature. I will not be hurting
them in any way if I become your mate. My only request is during the challenge
if either of you become severely injured, the injured party must admit defeat.”
“Kayla,”
he touched her face. “It is to the death. You know this. You had seen it done
many times.”
She
shook her head no. “Death is not an option.”
“Then
neither is the challenge,” he growled at her as he started to leave. “I will
not appear weak for your benefit.”
“Ba’naj,”
she called out to him. He turned to look at her. “If I cannot have you as my
mate then I will put in a request to have you and your families return to
Sa’tesh’s ship.” Ba’naj stepped closer to her and roared angrily in her face.
He noticed Kayla eyes started to water. “Because despite the fact that you are
Yautja, I know it will hurt you as much as it hurts me to not be with you
whenever we want.” She shook her head. “I can’t do it anymore. I can no longer
sleep with my mate and not think of you.”
Ba’naj
tilted his head to the side as he watched her wipe her tears away. “I,” Ba’naj
hesitated for a moment. “I feel a deep sense of joy with you. Seeing you is
like stepping into my trophy room. I love my kills… I…” It was the first time
he ever thought of saying such words to any female. He shook his head in
disbelief.
“I
know,” she smiled. “I love you too.”
“Humph.”
Kayla closed her eyes and inhaled his scent.
She opened her eyes when Ba’naj started to take off her dress. “Is this why you
have been avoiding me? Because of your feelings?”
“I
needed to give Sh’lok a chance,” she explained as Ba’naj stood behind her. He
clawed her back gently, watching the fine bumps appear on her silky brown skin.
“I wanted to make sure it was the right decision.”
Ba’naj
closed his eyes as he took in her strong scent. “You have not been with him
have you?”
Kayla
shook her head no. “I couldn’t.” She turned to look at him. “You never gave me
permission.” Ba’naj bent down and bit her roughly. He knew he was marking her
and he no longer cared. Kayla was his. She tilted her head back as he continued
his marks down to her breast.
“You
are mine,” he growled. “You will finally become my mate.”
Kayla
shook her head in agreement as she undid his cloth.
Knowing
Kayla would finally be his for good sent a tingle through his body. Ba’naj
slammed her body against the wall as her scent made him ache for her. Ba’naj
roared as he ripped her dress off. Kayla’s eyes fluttered before emitting a
heavy groan. “Ba’naj,” she whispered. “Be gentle. I have been feeling weak
without you. I have not been well.”
“I will
be gentle when you are in my bed,” he growled in her ear, palming her moisture.
He entered her slowly. Fully impaled inside her body, he gently laid her down
on the floor before forcefully pushing himself inside her. He noticed since his
absence it tightened greatly. That turned him on even more as he grabbed her
hips and pounded himself inside her. Ba’naj grunted as he felt her coming and
roared with pleasure when she fainted in his arms…
Ba’naj
quickly came inside Kayla. His adrenaline rush reminded him of the time he
killed the guard while he mated with her. He tried to catch his breath as he
gently nuzzled her neck. She was still out cold. “I should have made you mine a
long time ago,” he whispered. “For a split second I thought of challenging
Sh’lok when you took down Pa’ram.” He shook Kayla softly as he eased himself
out of her body. Ba’naj tilted his head to the side as he pushed Kayla’s body.
“Kayla?”
Ba’naj looked up to see Ta’noj and Shra’van walk into the
room. He looked at both of Kayla’s son’s. They were true warriors with no sign
of being half human. Their stance told him they were ready to fight. Ba’naj
wasn’t, he didn’t move as they walked closer.
“Don’t you think you should defend yourself before I kill
you?” Ta’noj growled angrily. Shra’van touched Ta’noj shoulder, but he pushed
his brother away. “For so long I have wanted to look at my mothers’ killer and
ask why. Now that I know it was someone she was close to I no longer care why,
I just want you dead.” Ta’noj extended his wrist blades and roared angrily.
“Not yet,” Shra’van barked. He stared at Ba’naj for a
moment. “Why were you heading towards my ship?”
“To kill me of course,” Ta’noj huffed. “Is this correct
Arbitrator?”
“I cannot kill you since I am the one that made you this
way!” Ba’naj roared at him.
“Then explain,” Shra’van stepped closer to him and growled.
“Why were you coming to my ship?”
“To tell Ta’noj the truth,” he finally spoke. “Do you both
wish to hear it or would you like to just kill me.”
“The second option is better for me,” Ta’noj growled.
“I need to know,” Shra’van crossed his arms. “Why would you
kill her? Was it because she refused to leave her family?”
Ba’naj tilted his head to the side. “From your months of
asking all of your questions about me, is that what you really think?” he
huffed. “You have your facts wrong Shra’van. Your mother was going to leave
your father the day she died. I was going to challenge your father for her
because she wanted me to.” Ba’naj told them of him and Kayla’s affair. He
finally told them about her death.
(Flashback)
Ba’naj
looked her over and pushed her again, but she wouldn’t move. He listened for
her pulse and howled as he shook her body. “What have I done? You cannot be
dead!”
Not
knowing what to do he jumped up and quickly got dressed. Ba’naj stared at her in
shock and horror. He couldn’t leave her. Ba’naj head started to spin as he
tried to think of what to do. He didn’t want anyone to find her naked so he
dressed her slowly before holding her lifeless body. He couldn’t understand
what he done wrong as he replayed the night events in his head. “You are not
that fragile. We have had far more invigorating sex but, you said you did not
feel well and I did not listen. My goodness Kayla if you were sick I can not
understand why you would allow me to go any further? What was wrong with you?
What was wrong with me? I did not sense any danger.” Ba’naj held her tighter as
his body shook from the shock. “I killed you. My mate, I am so sorry. I am so
sorry Kayla.” Ba’naj left the room but quickly returned. “You have to have an
honorable death,” he nodded. “You cannot be found here like this.” He held her for hours, studying her face and
whishing he had more time with the female he fell in love with. He extended his
wrist blades and without thinking he shoved them deep into her stomach. Ba’naj
let out a cry he knew would surly wake the ship. Gaining his composure he
quickly went to the medical lab.
Pahel
turned to see Ba’naj carrying Kayla. “What’s wrong with her?”
“A maul
or a wrist blade,” Ba’naj mumbled as he sat in a daze. Pahel roared angrily as
he stared at her.
Over
the course of the week Ba’naj didn’t know who talked to him or how he managed
to not kill himself. Pahel asked to speak to him alone. When the doors closed
Pahel punched Ba’naj in the jaw before kicking him in the stomach. “You killed
her! Why did you kill Kayla?”
“What,”
Ba’naj shook his head realizing he was talking to Pahel. “You hit me!” He
didn’t know the doctor had such a powerful punch.
“I
examined Kayla’s body and discovered your fluids inside her!” Ba’naj told him
what happened. “Ba’naj, she suffered a heart attack. I could have revived her
before you decided to take matters into your own hands!”
“She
had no pulse! She was dead!”
“Unlike
our species, Ooman's can come back if they are not dead for long! If you bought
her to me the moment it happened she would possibly be alive.”
“What?”
he stood and stared at Pahel. “I killed her?”
“Yes,”
Pahel spoke softly. “Your blade killed her.”
After listening to Ba’naj, Shra’van sat for a moment in
complete shock. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. From everything he learned
over the past few months it all made so much sense. Without speaking Shra’van walked
out of the room. He had to inform his brothers before they came over to kill
Ba’naj.
“So you see Ta’noj, we have something in common,” Ba’naj
finally stood up. “We have both been in pain since that day, though I am
luckier than you. You are about to end my pain for me.”
Ta’noj stared at him, not knowing what to say. He started to
think back to all the times his mother pulse raced when Ba’naj was in the room.
He never thought anything of it. His hand shook, wanting to kill the Yautja
responsible for his mother’s death, but he couldn’t kill someone she loved.
(Flashback)
“Ta’noj,”
Kayla smiled as she spoke to her son. They were having a mid afternoon snack.
“Funny you should ask about love.”
“Well I
remember you saying it a lot to Father,” he teased. “And I think I love my
mate, but I do not tell her this. Do you still love Father?” He noticed his
mother smiled and had a far away look in her eyes.
“I
still love,” she sighed. Kayla shook her head. “You just can’t choose whom you
love. It just happens.” She stood up and stretched before taking his hand. She
walked him into the trophy and weapons room her and Sh’lok shared. Kayla
carefully picked up her Naginata. “You love this weapon. I see you admiring it
every time you come in here.”
“It
would be a great honor to kill with such a fascinating piece of weaponry,” he
touched the markings and looked at his mother as she continued to speak.
“How
can you speak of love and death in the same sentence? If you love it, how can
you kill with it? If you love something treasure it for eternity. Put it on a
mantle and adore it.” They both turned to see Sh’lok staring at them. He nodded
and walked away. When Ta’noj looked back at his mother her expression changed.
He could tell she was saddened. “Even when you don’t think you love it anymore,
if you continue to cherish it, maybe you will see why you loved it so much in
the first place.” She slowly placed her Naginata back on the display case.
“That goes for your mates as well.”
He
noticed her sudden sadness beyond her smile. Ta’noj knew his parents were
having trouble in their relationship, but being her son he dared not to ask her
about it. “Have you thought about taking on a second mate Ta’noj?”
“Never,”
he grunted. “Kavi’ta is the only female for me.”
“I must go my son. I have a meeting.”
“With
whom?”
Kayla
smiled and looked up at Ta’noj before tugging on his lock with the newly
decorated rings. “Love.”
He
laughed at her as she walked out of the room.
“She met you everyday didn’t she?” he growled. Ba’naj nodded
as he walked over to his Naginata.
“Let’s get this over with,” he sighed. “If it means anything
to you, I cared deeply for your mother.” Ba’naj shook his head as the painful
images that haunted him everyday appeared. “I killed my mate, Kayla. I almost
told her that I loved her. I never thought I would use that word, love, in such
a manner. I am presuming it was temporary insanity.” Ba’naj trilled as he
thought of Kayla’s smile. “I love my children and I love my kills, but I have
never loved a female until her.”
“I know,” Ta’noj lowered his Naginata. “And she loved you.
That is why I cannot kill you.” He looked down at his Naginata. “Especially
with this.”
“This is unacceptable,” Ba’naj growled angrily. “You will
charge at me and you will attack! Avenge your mother’s death boy! It is what
you have always wanted.”
Ta’noj stared at Ba’naj for a moment before shaking his head
no. “You are in more pain than I am. All these years you kept it in. At least I
killed to relieve my pain. I cannot imagine how you are feeling.”
“My pain is none of your concern Boy,” Ba’naj roared at him.
“Attack me!”
Ta’noj took in a deep breath as he thought about the last
time he seen his mother. She was happy and it was because of Ba’naj, not his
father. “It is alright Ba’naj,” he nodded as he stepped away from him. “My
mother would have forgiven you. It was an accident and you tried to honor her
with an admirable death, to hide her indiscretion.” He thought of Lo’kesh’s
words. “I have my answers. This is no longer my fight.”
(Sh’lok’s Cruiser)
Sh’lok blood started to boil as he looked on with pure
hatred. Ba’naj was already there and it wouldn’t surprise him if Ta’noj already
killed him. He quickly went through the adjacent doors once his ship docked on
the opposite side of Ba’naj’s. Shra’van walked up to him.
“Father,” he nodded. “We need to talk before you go to
Ba’naj ship.”
“I wish to see him die,” Sh’lok growled as he stormed past
his other two sons.
“Is that your father?” Jasmine whispered to Su’ram.
“Yes.”
“Is he a ruler like Shra’van?”
Sh’lok suddenly stopped and stared at the small ooman
female. She held a baby close to her chest and stared at him with awe as he
narrowed his eyes and stared at her intently. When he walked closer to her she
gasped and stepped back. Jasmine tried not to stare, but he was indeed just as
large as Lo’kesh. “You are Jasmine?”
Jasmine looked over at Shra’van. “I left my transmitter in
the room.” When she tuned around to go get it Sh’lok stopped her.
“I speak, your language,” he spoke slowly. He hadn’t spoken
Kayla’s language since her death. “May I see my grandchild?”
Jasmine hesitated for a moment. When she handed him the baby
his mandibles started to twitch. Jasmine stared at how well decorated they
were. The gold tips on his lower mandibles with fine etching on all four. She
looked over his body noting how he looked prepared for battle. His posture was
that of a warrior ready for an attack, never leaving his guard down and muscles
twitching. Their father was indeed, very intimidating. She remembered Ta’noj
looking the same way when she first met him, except his father wore an emerald
green cape that matched his piercing eyes.
“What is wrong with this boy?” he growled looking at her
then to Shra’van.
“It is what the Jafren predicted,” Shra’van sighed. “That
boy is our new leader.”
“Another Ooman saves the day,” Sh’lok huffed. When the baby
kicked him he chuckled and handed him back to Jasmine. She was so busy staring
at him she didn’t realize he was handing her the baby. Sh’lok growled lowly,
making Jasmine step back. Seeing her shocked expression, Su’ram sighed before
taking the child from his father.
“Father, you can not kill Ba’naj,” Mordecai sighed. Sh’lok
growled as his son stepped in front of him. Mordecai looked over to Shra’van
and back to his father. “Shra’van told us everything and maybe it is time for
you to hear the truth.”
Sh’lok crossed his arms and stared at his sons before
nodding his head. As the three of them tried to explain Jasmine left the room
to retrieve her transmitter. When she returned she watched Sh’lok roar in anger
before pulling out his combistick and charging towards the other ship.
Sh’lok walked in to see his son and Ba’naj staring at one
another. “Kill him,” Sh’lok growled in a low tone. “If you do not then I will.”
“If you touch Ba’naj you and I will finish that fight we
started,” Ta’noj hissed at his father. Ta’noj hadn’t seen his father in so
long. He could have sworn he gotten larger. He noticed he wore one white lock
that was filled with rings.
Sh’lok looked at him like he was crazy. “He dishonored your
mothers’ memory! He probably dishonored her elder’s status as well.”
“She won that fight by defeating me!” Ba’naj yelled. “She
was properly given her well deserved status.”
Ta’noj looked at his father, whom was about to charge at
Ba’naj. “He slept with your mother!”
“He made Mother happy, unlike you!” Ta’noj roared back.
“Thank him for doing your job and walk away!”
Forgetting about Ba’naj, he stormed over towards his son.
Sh’lok looked over when Ba’naj extended his Naginata. Sh’lok was so furious he
wanted them both dead at the moment. “You defend this imbecile? This, mockery
of a warrior who dishonored your mother? After all of your years of searching
and developing a bad blood status because of your pain you choose to side with him.
Your mother’s killer.
Ta’noj stepped closer to his father, ignoring the warning of
being too close in his space. “You are Mother’s killer.”
Without any hesitation or remorse, he took a ring off his
lock and dropped it on the floor. “Then you are dead to me as well,” he spoke
in a low tone before walking away.
“While you are at it take off Wa’jeeh, Tar’un, and Pa’naka
ring as well as my two daughters!” Ba’naj snarled at him. Sh’lok turned and
threw a dagger in Ba’naj direction as he roared with fury, but Ta’noj was quick
enough to catch it. Sh’lok stared at Ta’noj once more before leaving.
He looked down to see his birth ring on the floor. Ta’noj
had to blink several times as he noticed a hand picking it up. He watched as
Ba’naj slowly fitted the ring on his own lock alongside his children rings.
Ta’noj placed his fist on his chest and bowed towards Ba’naj
before shaking his shoulder. “I forgive you; now please learn to forgive
yourself.”
“No harm will come to you on the planet,” Ba’naj nodded to
him. “My father sits among the council and I will talk to him. I will tell the
truth. He will not condemn his grandson’s and granddaughter’s brother to
death.”
“Thank you, but if means dishonor to your family and your
death… then I will accept my punishment, but I assure you it will not be death.
I will die in battle, not by someone’s judgment of conviction. ”
“I must return to my family and remove them from your
fathers ship before he decides to retaliate,” Ba’naj was about to walk away,
but Ta’noj stopped him.
“Shra’van has built me a ship that will be ready once we
reach the home world,” Ta’noj informed him. “It has all the latest Jafren
technology. Please join me.”
Ba’naj stared at him for a moment. Though he looked fully Yautja,
he could see Kayla in Ta’noj’s eyes. “I killed your mother.”
“It was an accident.”
Ba’naj thought for a moment before nodding his head. “It
would be an honor Ta’noj, thank you.”
“Ba’naj, I have many questions…”
“I know,” he assured him. “And I have the answers.”
Jasmine made cooing noises to the baby and snuggled her nose
into his neck, causing a soft purr. She didn’t know Sh’lok was standing behind
her in the meal area. He suddenly remembered how Kayla did the same thing to
all their pups and he would enjoy watching her. “I never knew I would still
miss her this much,” he mumbled to himself. Jasmine quickly turned around and
he walked up to her slowly, staring into the astonished eyes of the small
female. “What is it you see in Ta’noj?” He spoke in Yautja. He knew she
couldn’t understand him. “I almost feel sorry for you, you poor ooman female.
He will hurt you like everything else around him.”
Jasmine shook her head. “No he won’t.” She pointed to the
device in her ear. “The other alien species gave this to me.”
“Alien species?’ he growled at her. “Are you implying that I
am an alien? You did not derive here ooman, you are the alien!"
“The non Yautja’s?” Jasmine tried to correct herself as she
bit her lip. “Why are you so angry with Ta’noj? And who do you miss so much? Is
it Kayla?”
“You ask too many questions,” Sh’lok turned to leave.
“Wait,” Jasmine walked closer to him. When he turned to
stare down at her she suddenly forgot what she was going to say. She stepped
back, hoping she wasn’t invading his space. His size, like other Yautja’s
intimidated her and she didn’t want to give him any reason to show her how
strong he truly was.
“What is it?”
“You asked me a question,” she suddenly remembered. “I see
you in Ta’noj. I don’t know you well, but you two act a lot alike when you are
hurt. And your laugh is almost the same.” She handed him the baby. Sh’lok
stared at the child for a moment before looking back at Jasmine. “And the way
you look at the baby. You are Ta’noj with green eyes.” Jasmine smiled at him.
Sh’lok stared at her for a moment before carefully placing
the baby back into her arms. He touched her cheek softly before nodding. “Thank
you Jasmine.”
“Where is Ta’noj ring?” Mordecai growled as his father
walked past him. He shook his head. “Tell me you didn’t Father.”
“He is no longer my son,” he barked before leaving
Shra’van’s ship.
“What does he mean by that?” Jasmine whispered as Mordecai
stood in shock. “Is Ta’noj ok?”
“He no longer acknowledges Ta’noj as his son,” Mordecai
spoke softly before shaking his head in disbelief. “He stripped our brother of
his Yautja lineage. When he speaks of his family he can no longer mention our…”
Mordecai paused for a moment. “My father.” They both turned to see Ta’noj walk
in slowly.
“Is he gone?” he growled.
“What in the hell did you do?” Mordecai roared at him.
Jasmine stepped back. She had never seen him raise his voice. Like Wa’jeeh, she
thought he was one of the calmer ones.
“I was not going to allow him to kill Ba’naj!” Ta’noj
bellowed. “He needs to live with the grief of not being able to fulfill his
mate!”
“So you are blaming my father for everything?” Mordecai
stepped back, just in case he had to attack Ta’noj.
Ta’noj noticed how his brother readied himself as he thought
over his words. “Humph,” he stared at Mordecai for a moment. “Your father. Do
not allow your father’s short comings interfere with our relationship.” Before
Mordecai could respond, Ta’noj grabbed Jasmine’s hand and walked her to his
quarters.
