A/N: Hi everyone. Thanks again for all your responses to this fiction. It really makes it more fun and motivating to know that people enjoy reading along.
I had the most of this chapter written earlier this week, but I had to get in the right mood to finish the last scene, if you know what I mean. *wink* So, I finally finished it tonight. Yay! Disclaimer: I do not own The Covenant and do not make any money from the writing of this fiction. Chapter Eighteen Sarah followed Madison into the kitchen of Marish house and watched as a trap door opened in the floor on it’s own. The rigged up light bulb dangling from the ceiling crackled and swung from side to side, making her regret that she agreed to come to this spooky place. “Did you open that?” Sarah asked. “No, the caretaker did,” Madison said, nodding at the apparition in thanks. “Have you always been able to see spirits?” “Yes, all my life,” Madison replied. “That must have been scary as a child.” “At times it was. But I got use to it. It got worse when I turned thirteen. Then they seemed to want to show me how they died.” Sarah shivered, listening as the wind picked up outside, knocking a loose shutter against the house. The swinging light bulb and the creaking floors did not help as well. “This house is creepy.” Madison smiled sardonically. “Welcome to my world.” Then she turned and began walking down the narrow wooden stairs beneath the kitchen floor. Sarah stayed close behind her. At the bottom of the stairs, black candles had been lit in clusters at various places in the basement. The door to the ritual room opened on it’s own and candles flared up within. Sarah swallowed. “Well, they sure are helpful, aren’t they?” “Guess so,” Madison replied, walking into the other room and straight to the bookshelf of old, dusty books. She bent down to a row and blew the dust away from some titles. Thunder roared outside the house as a storm began. Madison looked up and said, “Good.” “What’s good?” “The storm. I was hoping it would work.” “You caused it?” Madison nodded. “I’m hoping the storm will stop Caleb from finding us. Though, it’s probably wishful thinking. Worth a try.” “You don’t want him to know what we are doing? Why? It would be useful for him to know this stuff too.” “I’m afraid he doesn’t plan on letting Chase live if he shows up.” “Would that be such a bad thing? Chase doesn’t exactly want Caleb to live either.” Madison removed a stack of books from the shelf and placed them on the big altar in the center of the room. Sarah moved next to her and they began browsing through the pages. “Think about it, Sarah. If Chase attracted a demon from killing someone, then what will happen to Caleb once he commits murder. Caleb, with all his power, will be very appealing to a demon. I don’t want him to tempt fate like that.” “But to let Chase live… What then, Madi? Let’s say your plan works, and you get the demon out of Chase? Then… what? We all live happily ever after? Do you think the other Sons will welcome him with open arms?” Madison sighed, turning her face to Sarah. “I don’t know, Sarah. They probably wouldn’t want him around. But maybe, just maybe, Chase would be able to get another chance at choosing to do the right things with his life. And without the demon, perhaps no one else will die by his hand. I just think it’s worth a try, especially if the alternative is risking the Sons getting demon possessed because they committed murder.” Sarah nodded. “I agree.” “They are capable of doing some very dark, bad stuff if they wanted - if they were that type of warlock. But I give credit to their mothers for raising them the way they did. And I’d like them to stay decent and not be tempted to commit extreme acts that may change them forever.” They spent the next half hour pouring over the books, trying to find anything that might be of help, but had not made any progress yet. “It’s strange having you know about us,” Madison said off-handedly. “Does Kate know too?” “No, she doesn’t.” “Caleb must really trust you,” Madi said, looking up from her book. “I trust him too,” Sarah replied. Madison felt guilty at that moment. Sarah was a genuinely nice person. She could see how Caleb could like her. She wished she didn’t have to make Caleb a dishonest person. But what else were they to do? Besides, she rationalized, if Caleb really did feel so bad about cheating on Sarah, he could have chosen not to use his powers. But realistically, Madison knew Caleb wouldn’t be able to resist her for long. She remembered what he was like when he tried to resist her in the beginning. She would have to leave Ipswich for him to be able to function normally, and that would be bad news for all of them. Speaking of which… “He’s here,” Madison announced. “Who?” “Caleb. He just pulled into the driveway,” Madison sighed. “I guess my storm didn’t prevent him from seeing my signature. He’s too powerful.” “You can sense him coming?” “The caretaker told me.” Sarah looked about, “Oh.” “The ghosts here seem to get nervous around warlocks.” “I wonder why.” “Probably because not all of them have been friendly to witches in the past. And Marish House is a witches house.” Madison looked toward the door. “You can let him through. He’s o.k.,” she said to the invisible apparition. In a few moments they heard doors opening upstairs and the sound of footsteps growing closer. “Madi?” Caleb called out. “Down here,” Madison replied. Caleb came down the stairs and into the ritual room, stopping at the door, his eyes going from Sarah to Madison. “What’s going on in here?” “Research,” Madison replied. “I found this room and wanted to know what was in these books. Sarah’s helping me.” “Really?” Caleb said, coming around the altar and standing beside Sarah, glancing at the books. “I didn’t realize you were interested in spells.” Sarah gazed into Caleb’s dark eyes. “Madison asked for help. There were a lot of books to go through.” She could tell that Caleb seemed less than thrilled that she was doing this and she wondered if he was upset at her interest or at the fact that she was working alongside Madison. Then his eyes shifted to Madison. “Why the storm, Madi? What are you trying to hide?” “Hide? What makes you think I’m hiding?” “I expect complete honesty within our coven,” Caleb stated. “Really? Yet you didn’t think it was important to tell me that Sarah knew about us? That you told her about me?” Madi replied in irritation. “I thought that one of the others might have told you,” Caleb replied, getting defensive. He look at Sarah and said, “Do you think you can go upstairs for a bit? I need a word with Madison.” “I don’t want to cause a problem,” Sarah replied. “Please don’t fight about this. I’m just helping her research, Caleb.” Caleb softened his voice and put his arm around Sarah. “I know. I’m not upset with you.” He kissed Sarah’s cheek, making her feel better. Sarah nodded. “O.K., I’ll go up to the kitchen. But don’t be long. It’s a bit spooky in this house.” Caleb and Madison waited, listening to Sarah go up the old wooden steps to the kitchen, while they stared each other down. Then Caleb’s eyes flashed and the door to the ritual room slammed. “What do you think you are doing getting Sarah involved?” Caleb hissed. “I got her involved?” Madison laughed sarcastically. “You’re the blabbermouth, Caleb Danvers.” “No, I mean getting her involved with you.” “So I’m not allowed to be friends with her?” “Fuck, Madi, you can be friends,” Caleb said, running a frustrated hand through his wet hair. “It’s just that… I’m trying to keep my two… situations… separate.” He walked to her side of the altar, pushing his body against hers and pinning her in between his arms. “Do you realize how difficult it is for me not fuck you three ways to Sunday every time I lay eyes on you? And then, to have to pretend I don’t want you when Sarah is standing there…” Madison couldn’t help herself. His body felt so good against hers and he smelled exactly right, her knees buckled and she had to put her arms about his neck to keep from sliding to the floor. As soon as she embraced him, his hot lips devoured hers, kissing her deeply and making her forget everything but him. Finally he broke the kiss, panting against her neck. “We can’t… not with Sarah here…” he reminded. “I know,” Madison whispered heavily. “You taste so good, Caleb. Why do you taste so good?” And her lips were back on his, their tongues tasting one another and their bodies writhing against each other. He reluctantly tore himself away again. “I don’t want her to find out,” he rasped. “I don’t want to hurt her.” Madison nodded and reluctantly let him go, trying to calm her heart and nerves back to normal. “I did try to keep you away tonight,” Madison said. “I don’t want to hurt Sarah either.” Caleb nodded. “O.K. I’m sorry I interrupted. I got curious as to what you were doing.” He looked around the room. “A witch’s laboratory?” Madison laughed softly. “Perhaps. I wanted to find out what was here exactly.” “Be careful,” he said, giving her a meaningful stare. “I’ll never tell her about us, Caleb. I promise,” Madison replied, caressing his cheek. “You don’t have to worry about that.” Caleb nodded. “I know.” OOOOOO After school the next day, Madison, Tyler, and Reid sat in the library working on homework. Since Madison had stopped taking her medications, she did find it a bit easier to concentrate, but now with the memory of Chase in her head, she felt even more flustered and stressed. Where was she suppose to find the Pope family Bible? It could be anywhere. It wasn’t in her Marish House collection. It could be at one of the Sons’ homes, a library, or even a museum. She would have to think of something to tell the Sons if she wanted to check out their home libraries. She supposed she could express a great interest in learning all she could about Ipswich histories and old families and ask the boys if she could see any old books they had. All she knew is she had about three weeks before winter break - three weeks to find this Bible, or her father would be in danger. And no doubt Chase would want to have sex with her at that time. The thought of a repeat of what happened last time made her stomach turn, and she quickly pushed it out of her mind. She hadn’t wanted to deal with what had happened yet. Every time she let her mind go to that memory, her hands would shake and she’d start to perspire and she felt a full blown panic attack arising. So in defense, she pushed it away, tucking the memory away behind anything she could possibly find to distract herself with. But lately, with the research she was doing, the thought came to her that if she and Sarah could find the binding spell for warlocks, perhaps she could bind Chase before he raped her. But how long would it last? Would she be able to get him back to Ipswich and complete the ritual? Madison knew that she had to have answers before the winter break. She had to be ready for Chase, one way or the other. “I thought Pogue was going to meet us here too,” Madison commented, trying to get her mind off Chase. “He’s breaking up with Kate right now,” Reid replied. “What? Really?” Madison asked, shocked. “Why?” “She flirts too much with other guys, and probably more,” Tyler replied. “Pogue’s the jealous type and he’s tired of wondering if she’s fucking someone else. He’d rather not deal with the aggravation.” “That’s kind of hypocritical of him, don’t you think?” Madi replied. “Don’t even go there, Madi. You’re essential to his well being. Those dudes Kate’s fucking aren’t essential to hers. She’s just being a skank. Totally different situation,” Reid said. “Are you sure she’s cheating? Flirting doesn’t mean she’s actually slept with someone else.” “She wanted me to fuck her just before fall break. I turned her down and she got mad,” Reid frowned. “Seriously?” Madison asked, shocked. “Yep. It was that night you first slept with Pogue. So if she’s asking guys to fuck her, some of them are probably saying yes.” “I had no idea.” “Now you do, sweet cheeks,” Reid smiled, earning a frown from Tyler. “It’s going to be awkward for Sarah - having to share a room with Kate while still dating one of the Sons.” “Not your problem.” OOOOOO Pogue awoke to the sound of knocking at his door. He groggily lifted his head and looked at his clock. It was nearing midnight, which was usually early for him, but tonight he had passed out around nine after getting back from Caleb’s house. He had headed to his best friend’s house after his fight and break up with Kate that afternoon and was fairly exhausted from all the emotional drama. The knock persisted. “Who is it?” he called out groggily. “Madison.” Pogue used his power to unlock and open the door, turning onto his back as she came in. His eyes flashed and a candle on his nightstand lit up, allowing him to see the sexy witch standing at his bedside. His eyes took in the white silky camisole and short outfit which didn’t leave too much to the imagination. He felt his body reacting immediately. “I heard what happened. Are you o.k.?” she asked. He had to think a moment to understand what she was referring to as his mind was already on pulling the witch into bed with him. “Hmmm? Oh… yeah. I’m fine,” he replied, his hand moving to caress the bare thigh next to the bed. “Even better, now that you are here.” Madison climbed onto the bed and straddled his hips, running her hands over his bare chest. She loved that Pogue always slept nude. It was so damn sexy. “I’m serious. Are you feeling… hurt? Betrayed? Or what? Do you need to talk it out? I’m here for you, you know.” “I’m cool, Madi. Seriously. I’ve been thinking of breaking it off with her for weeks now. The thing with Reid just convinced me it was the right decision.” “But…” Pogue smiled and pulled her down onto his chest. “Would you just relax? I’m fine. Besides, I’d rather concentrate on you.” They fell into some heavy kissing while Pogue’s hands roamed over her silken pajamas. “Mmmmm… there is something you could do for me that would help me feel better,” he grinned. “Stay with me tonight.” Madison kissed him and replied, “I’m all yours.” “I wish that were really true.” She looked into his eyes, realizing that he really did mean that. She could see that he wanted her to be his - and no one else’s. And she could also see sadness because he realized he couldn’t have it that way. And for that moment, she wanted that too. She wanted to be able to be his one and only. But she also wanted to be that for the other Sons as well. How fruitless were those thoughts? Madison placed her hands on his cheeks, bringing her lips close to his, and whispered, “When I’m alone with you, it can be exactly how we imagine it to be.” She kissed him deeply, losing herself the sensations of warmth and need, and the delicious smell of his hot skin pressed onto her. She longed to feel all of him with out the barrier of her night clothes. She sat up while still straddling Pogue, grabbing the bottom of her camisole and ready to pull it off her body, but Pogue stopped her hands with his. “Let me,” he rasped, sexily. Madi shivered in anticipation when he slipped his fingers under her straps, sliding his fingers softly against her skin before pulling them slowly down, his bedroom eyes following his progress. When he pulled the silken material down off her breasts, his dark pupils dilated with approval and he lifted his head to taste her soft mounds. Madi threaded her fingers through his hair, holding him to her breasts as she watched him bite, lick and kiss. His eyes connected with hers and a wicked grin formed on his face as Madi began moving her hips, sliding her core against his erection. “Mmmm… baby, let’s get your bottoms off. I want to be deep inside you,” he whispered, urgently. Madi got off his hips for a moment to remove the rest of her lingerie, loving how Pogue’s eyes lusted for her. His hands guided her back to her place on his body, and Madi sank down onto his pulsing, excited cock. She loved how deep it felt when she sat on top like this. They both moaned in pleasure as Madi began moving up and down on Pogue. He held her hips and arched up to meet her at just the right time, starting slowly and building up faster. After a while, Pogue felt he was getting close and he sensed Madi was getting tired, so he moved a hand to her clit, gently playing with her sensitive button as she moved on him. “Come for me, baby,” Pogue groaned. With Pogue’s expert fingers it didn’t take long for Madison’s climax and she was soon moaning and shaking as Pogue let himself go as well, holding onto her hips and moving gently until she had come down from her peak. He was soaking wet from their combined release and he loved every moment of it. “Fuck, Madi, I love you.” Madison smiled, laying on top of him and kissing his lips. “I love you, too, Pogue.” Then she put her head down on his chest and relaxed, sleepy after a long day. “I know you’re tired,” Pogue said, kissing the top of her head. “I’ll let you rest a bit. But then I want to play with your body some more.” Madison laughed softly. “I know you will.” And she closed her eyes, content. OOOOOO A/N I know some people have mentioned that I did not focus enough on how Madison dealt with being raped. During the scene, I purposely left out too much detail as I personally abhor the violence and horror of some rape scenes I have read or seen on a movie. Though, at the same time I did want to show what Chase was capable of. It was a tricky scene for me to write. Dealing with the aftermath - I wanted show Madison dealing with it by suppressing it for now, because she really feels that there is no one she can tell at this time. Unfortunately, that was not the last time she’s going to have to deal with Chase, and so you will see a build up of her anger over her situation that will force her to deal with it all. Suppressing it will also cause her to act out in other ways as well. Well, enough of that. I just want to wish everyone happy holidays and I hope you enjoyed this latest chapter. Please write and let me know.
