Lady Norrington carried a basket with her as she walked into the town to
do some shopping. James had given her permission and told her it would be
alright as long as she stayed in the high end of port royal among the shops.
There didn’t seem to be a cause for concern if she followed his instructions
and was back home at least a hour before supper was served if not before.
Everyone was so friendly and smiled happy to see her. Of course she had
money and they were merchants so it was to be expected. Yet there were a few who
were genuinely nice people and not trying to sell her useless items or entire
islands that probley didn’t even exist.
Coming out of one shop, she started down the cobble stone street looking
about to see where she would go next. “Lady Norrington?” She heard a voice
say. Aislinn didn’t recognize it, but it was her name so she turned around to
see who was asking for her.
“Yes?” She said politely seeing a woman standing there dressed a bit
shabbily for being in this part of town. All at once she found herself being
attacked from more then one direction, clawed at and the things she had with her
being taken away from her hands, and the hat she wore ripped away. She started
to scream out as she could feel herself being hit and bashed, but only for her
mouth to be brutally smacked with a fist to keep her quiet as she was pulled
into an alleyway.
“Do we have them all in custody?” Norrington said as he made his way
down the steps to his office.
“We’re not sure. We need word from Lady Norrington to identify her
assailants.” The lieutenant answered.
“Lady Norrington is under medical care. She will not be bothered with
this matter any further.” There was a dark look on the Admiral’s face, he
was in no mood for any sort of nonsense. He wanted all the culprits caught and
would be punishing them swiftly and as harshly as the law allowed. “An example
is going to be made of these vermin. I’m not tolerating this sort of criminal
behavior, especially when its directly targeted my wife.”
“Yes sir.”
That evening, James returned back to their home finding that the surgeon
was still attending to Aislinn. As he approached their bedchamber the doctor was
coming out just as he reached the door. “How is she?” James asked anxiously.
“Admiral Norrington.” The doctor greeted him closing the door behind
him. “She’s resting now. As comfortable as I could make her.” Norrington
sighed looking towards the door. “Lady Norrington withstood a rather harsh
attack before the soldiers were able to come to her aid.”
“How badly hurt is she?” He questioned.
“She has a great number of cuts, lesions and bruises. Three of her
fingers were broken, and even though she was in pain she insisted on their being
set a certain way immediately. She set two herself before I was able to get to
her.” James was quiet for a moment not wanting to ask the next question but
knowing he had to.
“What about the baby?” He finally said. “What harm came to the
child?” He said not looking up just waiting to hear whatever had to be said
weather it was good news or bad.
“It’s to early to tell. I’ve ordered her confined to bed rest for
at least two weeks. She’s not to do any sort of activity that could cause
stress to her body of any kind. Right now, she is still with child. Her body
needs time to heal properly, otherwise it might not be able to continue to
support another life besides her own.” The doctor explained.
“She could still lose the baby then?” Norrington said looking at the
doctor.
The surgeon gave a nod. “She needs rest. Plenty of it so she can regain
her strength Admiral. I’ll check on her regularly to monitor how she’s
fairing.” Norrington gave a nod and the doctor gave his salute before leaving.
James sighed and walked into his room finding Aislinn lying in bed with
her eyes closed, resting with the covers pulled over her. He closed the door
carefully and moved towards the bed taking off his hat and coat putting them
aside before sitting down next to her.
Aislinn’s eyes opened a little bit, “James.” She whispered.
James smiled, “How are you feeling darling?” He said taking her hand.
“Tired.” She said licking her lips a little bit.
“You should rest then dear. You’ve been through quite an ordeal. But
don’t worry we’ve caught them, they’re in our custody.” He said softly.
“Your safe now.”
“They were upset because . . . the woman’s husband was executed.”
She breathed. “She shouted that it was unjustly. That he was innocent.”
Aislinn started to cough when she spoke and James quickly packed the pillows
behind her back better so she could catch her breath.
“Shhhh. Don’t talk now.” He said softly. “It’s alright darling.
Don’t worry yourself about this anymore. Just rest.” She looked up at him
holding his hand as he stroked her hair gently.
“Was what she said true?” She whispered. “Her husband? Was he
innocent?”
Norrington looked at her not understanding, “Darling, I don’t know
who her husband was. I’m not even sure who she is. But I promise I will look
into this matter further. I would never order an execution unless the law
required such a punishment. If he was executed by my hand, the law demanded that
it was so.” Sighed a little he kissed her forehead. “Just rest for now my
darling. I’ll investigate this personally. Alright?”
She nodded a little as her tired eyes began to close, trusting that James
would do everything in his power to make things right if they were wrong. The
Admiral clinched his jaw as he continued to stroke her hair in a comforting way
wanting to speed her to sleep. Damnit. They attacked her to take revenge for
something that they were accusing him of. This would be the last day she went
out of the house unescorted, and there would be an around the clock guard put on
the house.
James sat in his office reading a letter when the surgeon came in after
making a visit to the Admiral’s house. Norrington put down the letter and
looked up at the man, “Come in.” He instructed. “How is she?” He
inquired.
“Much better. I think she’s making a full recovery, but it might be
best if she simply takes things at a slow pace until the baby arrives. Just to
be on the safe side. Bed rest as much as possible.”
“I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to keep her down once she’s
feeling better, Doctor. She can be quite the spitfire when she’s well.”
Norrington said reaching for his quill as he began to write on a piece of
parchment. “I’ll see what I can do. At least she’ll be happy to know she
won’t have to entertain as much as I would have liked her to.”
“I’ve given your cook strict instructions as to what she is to
prepare for Lady Norrington, I hope you don’t mind.”
“Of course. Anything you need. I just hope you conferred a bit with
Aislinn with these things, you know how she can be as far as diagnoses can
go.” James admitted.
“Yes, I did discuss these with her first. We came to an agreement.
Since she is inexperienced with child barring, she has agreed that she will
follow my instructions without argument.” He said in a tone as though he had
won a battle. James half smiled knowing how that could be.
“She would be very unhappy that I asked but . . . as a husband I have
to ask . . . .” James started turning the feather around in fingers glancing
at the doctor.
The surgeon nodded, “It’s alright, perfectly safe.” He said not
making the Admiral ask the question outright. James gave a nod and went back to
writing his letter. Then he gave a wave of his hand dismissing the surgeon who
promptly saluted and then left.
Aislinn sighed as she lay on her side of the bed starring at the wall.
James rolled over and leaned up on an elbow looking at her, “Are you
alright?” He questioned. He could tell she wasn’t, she seemed very upset
about something.
“When is this going to be over?” She questioned. James arched a brow
and rested his hand on her shoulder scooting a little closer to her.
“When is what going to be over darling?” He questioned pulling the
blankets up over them a little better wrapping his arm around her.
“I’m getting so big, and . . . and horrible.” She said with a sigh.
Norrington chuckled a little as he kissed her neck and settled behind her
resting his hand on her swollen abdomen. “You have never been as beautiful to
me as you are right now.” He said into her ear kissing her neck once more.
“You’re absolutely glowing. You have nothing to be ashamed of my dear. I
promise.”
“I’m massive.” She said with a frown. “My dresses you bought me
don’t fit properly at all, and I just look silly.” James smiled and nuzzled
her neck a little.
“Oh Aislinn.” He said rubbing her belly a little bit before reaching
for her hand and holding it in his tightly. “Aren’t you excited just a
little bit? It won’t be long before the life inside of you emerges and becomes
part of our lives. You’ll be a mother soon.”
She was silent for a moment, “I know.” She said softly. “Do you
think . . .” She was silent for another moment. “Do you think I will be a
good mother?” She asked finally. “I don’t know how a mother is to be.”
James knew this was something that had been bothering her for sometime.
Not knowing her own mother, and not growing up around anyone who had children of
their own made her even more nervous about having a child. “We’ll learn
together, Aislinn.” Leaning closer to her ear he held her against him, “But
I have a feeling you’ll make a wonderful mother.” Aislinn closed her eyes
and clung to his arm that was around her hoping that he was right.
The Commodore smiled a little, “We haven’t even discussed what my son
is going to be called yet.” Aislinn paused a moment looking back over her
shoulder towards him.
“Will it be a boy do you think?” She asked.
“Of course it’s going to be a boy. What else would it be.” Aislinn
looked over her shoulder a bit more with a confused look on her face. James
grinned at her with a sly look in his eyes. Aislinn narrowed her own a bit.
“You’re teasing me.” She said.
“Yes I am actually.” He said tickling her side a bit. She smiled and
squirmed a bit. “So what do you think our first son should be called?” He
said continuing to tickle her.
“Stop that!” She said starting to laugh. He grinned. “James!” She
said wiggling about a bit more.
“Well I don’t know if we should name our first son after me straight
away, but if you think ‘James’ should be his name then who am I to argue!”
He said still teasing her knowing that she was simply calling out his name
trying to get him to stop tickling her. When she rolled back he caught her in
his arms and leaned over her looking down into her eyes as they smiled at each
other.
The laughing died down a bit as she looked up at him. “Don’t
worry.” He said softly. “You’ll know what to do. When the time comes.”
He reassured her.
“Do you really think so?” She said softly.
He smiled, “I know so.” Looking into her eyes another moment he
leaned down slowly and kissed her ever so tenderly. She kissed him back and
slowly slid her arm around his shoulders.
After a few moments, James broke their embrace and carefully turned her
over on her side lying behind her. Aislinn wasn’t sure what was going on, and
looked at him starting to turn back towards him but he gently put his hand on
her shoulder turning him back away from him. “Shhh, it’s alright darling.”
He said wrapping his arm around her again.
“What are you doing?” She asked caught off guard, not knowing what
was going on. He had never done this before or anything like it as he pressed
his body against the length of her back. “James?” She said nervously. James
rested his hand on her belly a moment before moving his hand up to her middle
and pulled her body back to press against his. His hand slid up over her breast
to her throat then his fingertips gently turned her chin so he could find her
lips.
Norrington kissed her lovingly breathing deeply, hardly able to contain
his excitement. “Trust me.” He whispered against her lips, “Everything’s
alright. I promise.” He said gently kissing her a bit more passionately.
Aislinn closed her eyes and kissed him back leaning against his body a little
bit as her head rested against the pillow a bit more and she relaxed into his
body.
Slowly, the Admiral’s hand moved down her throat, and to her breast as
he caressed her for several moments continuing to lavish affections on her
eagerly. Then his hand moved down further over her swelling belly, over her hip
to her thigh. Finding her knee, he raised her thigh sliding his own between hers
readjusting his body just a bit. His manhood found her entrance and slowly began
to tease her soft velvet womanhood ever so subtlety.
Aislinn broke their kiss as her eyes opened and she looked up at him.
Sliding his free arm underneath her he wrapped it around her body and leaned
down kissing her neck a bit. “James?” She whispered nervously.
“Relax darling.” He reassured her. Gently he began to push into her
soft warm sex causing her body to tense. Norrington slowed a bit but continued
to move into her trembling body. Aislinn took a deep breath closing her eyes as
her back arched a bit. James hand rested on her swelling belly as he pushed
himself deep inside his young bride filling her completely causing her to gasp
at the feeling.
Her breath was deep in her chest and shutters crawled up and down her
spine as James held fast to her. Still holding to her knee he raised her thigh a
bit more so he could push a bit further inside of her, and Aislinn moaned as
another shutter of pleasure crept up her spine.
Slowly, James began to thrust his throbbing member inside her with long
deep strokes causing Aislinn to writhe against the Admiral’s body. She could
barely breathe as the sensations that were being caused just seemed to over take
her entire being and made her legs and body shake uncontrollably in pleasure.
Norrington smiled when he felt her hands cling to his arm that was wrapped
around her as he held her tight against him and thrust his hips driving himself
deeper inside her body.
Aislinn could hardly contain her excitement, as she whispered his name
almost pleading for more unable to control herself feeling the bliss that he was
causing to run through her body. Turning her head back towards him, he caught
her lips and kissed her passionately thrusting a little harder inside of her.
It wasn’t long before he moved a little faster holding her tightly
against him, that she cried out into his mouth feeling the peak of her pleasure
causing her body to tense around him. A few more deep, hard deliberate thrusts
and he found his own climax releasing himself deep inside her holding her
against him.
He was breathing hard himself and clung to her body, kissing her mouth
greedily, hungrily holding onto her swollen pregnant young body. He was growing
eager to become a father, and she did look so radiant carrying his child.
Sometimes he would just look at her in awe and couldn’t help but smile and
want to take her in his arms and kiss her or make love to her right then and
there. Yet this was really the first time since she had been injured that they
had been intimate together.
As their bodies started to settle a little bit James lavished kisses at
her neck and then found her lips once more and kissed her softly a few times.
When their eyes met, he stroked her cheek ever so gently, just listening to one
another breathe.
James sighed as he watched the ships in the harbor. The ones that had
finished being refitted heading out and the ones that were to begin their
refitting coming in. To be honest they were ahead of schedule. Things were going
much better then planned, they had managed to bring in a record number of
criminals, and smashed several threats that had been threatening East India
Trading Company routes. Things were running rather well even if every threat had
not yet been stomped out and there was still much to be done.
However. At home, there were other issues that were becoming a problem. A
large portion of Aislinn’s inheritance had been received but the reason for
this was not disclosed. There was no explanation, no letter; no one seemed to
know anything about Walter Bartley himself. Yet this huge chunk of inheritance
had been turned over to James and Aislinn and was now in their position.
The Admiral was finding it rather annoying that they couldn’t seem to
get an answer from anyone about what was going on. Walter Bartley was perhaps
one of the most wealthy men, if not thee wealthiest in all of Britain. Yet his
daughter had been writing to everyone trying to find out any information she
could about her father and why he didn’t come to Port Royal as he promised he
would and receiving no reply on the matter. On top of this, was the inheritance.
The fortune that came with their marriage that was her dowry, was easily put to
shame and looked like pocket change compared to the piece of inheritance that
had now come into their possession.
Aislinn had fallen into severe depression over this whole matter and she
had become ill with the thought that some horrid fate had befallen her father.
She was constantly writing letters now, to everyone who had any sort of
influence anywhere in London asking about Walter Bartley wanting to know if they
had any news of him. Each day, James had another handful of letters to add to
the post. It was consuming her life now. She was so hungry for news of what
became of her father, and she was going through stacks of stationary, pots of
ink, sticks of wax and bushels of quills.
“James.” A voice said causing the Admiral to look away from the
window to the door. There stood Cutler Beckett waiting for permission to enter.
James sighed and waved for him to come in putting the book he had started to
thumb through aside. Cutler walked in and sighed glancing out the window. “I
think you may be pleased to know that someone has just arrived on the ship
Crosswinds. Someone that you and your wife have been expecting for sometime.”
James looked up at Beckett. “Who?” He asked.
“Lord Walter Bartley. He may be disembarking within the hour.” James
quickly stood grabbing his coat as he started towards the door putting it on.
However Lord Beckett stepped in front of him. Norrington arched a brow. “He
MAY be disembarking James. He has to be cleared by our medical staff before
he’s allowed to leave the ship or set foot on the island.”
“What?” James pulled the coat on and started out the door with Cutler
following behind. “If a ship with an epidemic of some kind has come into our
harbor I should have been notified straight away.” He said with an annoyed
tone. He looked out to see that they were at least two miles out, not allowed to
get any closer and only long boats were allowed to an from the ship.
“I insisted on informing you myself, Admiral Norrington. We only just
heard from the ships aid. They lost their surgeon sometime in a pirate raid a
while back. Our surgeons went to the ship to see if the illness is treatable or
if those aboard will have to be sent to live in a colony to live out their days.
They’ll be back before nightfall.”
This would explain volumes. James hated the sound of all of this; it
could be a number of things. It could be a simple aliment of food poisoning
throughout the ship, scurvy even. Or it could be something worse, like leprosy
or the very worst . . . the plague. Which would mean that the ship wouldn’t be
allowed to go anywhere. It and its passengers would be escorted to a safe
distance and then it would be destroyed.
“I want a tight lips on this matter until we have better details. Mass
hysteria on the island is the last thing we need.” Cutler agreed. “And I
don’t want Aislinn to know her father is aboard that ship. She is ill enough
and is due to give birth in just a short while.”
