(Shra’van’s Cruiser)
Jasmine stared at Ta’noj as she held his
hand. “Don’t be mad at your mom,” she finally spoke. “In the end, she was
happy. She didn’t want to see anyone die and that’s understandable. If he made
your mother happy, why would he kill her?”
“That is what I’m going to find out,” he
growled.
“So you now understand why four of your
siblings have blue eyes?”
“I do,” he nodded. Ta’noj looked up to
see Shra’van walk in with his bag.
“Oh goodness no,” Jasmine mumbled.
“Do not worry female,” Shra’van chuckled.
“I do not wish to sleep with you, today.”
He looked over at his brother. “There is something I wish to give you.”
Shra’van sat the bag down and slowly opened it.
“Oh, that’s beautiful,” Jasmine gasped as
Ta’noj stood up in shock.
“Mothers Naginata?” Ta’noj looked at it
then back to Shra’van, whom held it up for him to take.
“She told Father that she wanted you to
have it someday,” he nodded once Ta’noj took it from his hands. “She said you
loved it. Now you can avenge her death with it.”
Jasmine excused herself. She didn’t want
to tell them that she was still hungry. During her pregnancy she knew she
gained more weight than she thought she would. As she walked down the corridor,
the largest male on the ship walked in her direction. “Hello Lo’kesh,” she said
in Yautja before giving him a big smile.
He thought she was so amusing. She
reminded him of his daughter when she was learning to speak. “Jasmine,” he
nodded.
She thought for a moment before she tried
to speak again. “How are you?”
“Fine.”
His size still amazed her. She noticed
others just as large or a bit larger on Shra’van’s ship, but she never stood
close to them. Lo’kesh bent down to eye level before speaking to her in
English. “Stop staring!”
“Sorry,” she whispered before he grunted
at her. To show no harm he patted her head before walking off.
Gav’alin looked up at Jasmine as she
entered the eating area. He managed to avoid her during most of the trip. He
stared at her for a moment when she sat across from him.
“Hello,” she spoke in Yautja.
“Do not speak my language,” he growled at
her.
“Angry, rude ass child,” she mumbled as
she ate. Gav’alin slammed his fist against the table as he snarled at her.
“I am over a hundred years older than
you,” he roared. “You, are a mere child.”
Jasmine gasped as she stared at him, then
her eyes narrowed to meet his angry glaze. “Well if you are older, act like
it!”
Gav’alin growled and stood up to leave,
but Jasmine suddenly grabbed his hand and held her stomach. He could hear her
heart racing. Gav’alin quickly picked Jasmine up and rushed her to the medical
lab. He sat her on the table and was about to leave. “Wait,
don’t just leave me here by myself. I'm in labor!”
He stared at her for a moment before
pointing to the door. “I am going to go get the doctor.”
Jasmine nodded in agreement and laid
back.
Ta’noj paced back and forth. “Are you
sure he is close?” he huffed angrily.
“A week or so away,” Shra’van nodded. “I
do not understand why he was on his way to my ship. Father is right behind
him.”
Ta’noj grunted.
“Ta’noj,” Shra’van was hesitant about
asking the question. “Why did you and Father fight after Mother’s death?”
“I accused him of not caring after I
heard him mating with Lee’na shortly after Mother’s death,” he shook his head.
“He hit me and we started to fight.”
They looked up when Gav’alin rushed in.
“She is having the baby,” he nodded.
“Don’t cut me!” Jasmine screamed at the
doctor. She pushed him away and suddenly kicked him. He snarled at her as his
body slammed into the wall.
“You damn Ooman,” he hissed. “You cannot
deliver the baby naturally! You will die!”
“I don’t speak Yautja,” she screamed at
him. She gripped the bed and closed her eyes as she felt another rush of pain.
She started to calm down when she felt a soft purr against her temple. Ta’noj
started to tell her what the doctor was saying.
“I have delivered many babies in the
village,” she looked a Ta’noj and his brothers. “I feel the head. I can push.”
“The way the baby head is shaped it will
tear you apart,” Shra’van tried to explain as he looked in-between her legs.
“Did Aa’hana not give you all my
messages?” the doctor snapped. “This child appears to be Ooman.”
He looked over at the doctor. “Is the
baby developed properly?”
“I know little about the Ooman anatomy so
I suppose so,” he shook his head. “Alexa stopped having pups a long time ago.
My father never taught me much about the ooman female before he died.”
“Shit,” Su’ram crossed his arms as
Jasmine screamed in pain.
Shra’van looked at her carefully then to
Ta’noj. “She shouldn’t be able to even talk right now,” he spoke in Yautja.
“The pain for Alexa and our mother was too great for them. It is even hard for
Em’mi and her sisters.” They all started to look as Jasmine begun to push. She
screamed, pushed and panted.
“It is a girl,” Su’ram chuckled as her
head was suddenly out. When the ordeal was over they looked at each other in
shock.
“What’s wrong?” Jasmine smiled as she
listened to the baby cry. They all started to talk to each other and Jasmine
looked at their concerned faces. “Ta’noj what’s wrong with the baby?”
The doctor hesitated for a moment before
placing the baby in her arms. Jasmine smiled before lifting the sheet from the
crying child. “It’s a boy Su’ram.” She cuddled the baby close to her. His eyes
were a soft blue color, like Jasmine’s eyes before they were enhanced. Besides
the spots on his body like his father, he looked human. Jasmine looked up at
Ta’noj. “I thought you said he would have mandibles,” she paused for a moment.
“I thought he would look like you.”
“We all thought that,” Mordecai growled.
“Well he will certainly have the strength
of a Yautja,” the doctor rubbed on his stomach. “I do not know about his
temperament.” They looked at each other with a worried expression.
“Well maybe it’s time for a change,”
Jasmine touched the baby cheek before putting him on her breast.
“Change?” Shra’van tilted his
head to the side as he recalled walking in on one of his parents arguments.
“Why did you say that?”
“Well,” Jasmine looked a little unnerved
as he stepped closer to her. “Everything changes, and evolves. Don’t you
think?”
“No,” he growled as he stared at her. His
mandibles twitched as he looked at the baby. “They knew. Jasmine, give me the
baby.” Jasmine held onto her child tighter as she stared at the angry Yautja.
“Give me the baby!” Ta’noj roared angrily at him as he stepped in front of
Jasmine. “They will not speak to me without the baby.”
“Who are you referring to?” Lo’kesh
questioned. Shra’van looked over at him.
“The Jafren.”
Ta’noj gently took the baby from Jasmine
and handed him over to Shra’van. “If any harm comes to my child I will kill you
slowly.”
“I am beginning to think if any harm
comes to this child they will kill us all,” Shra’van growled as he went to the
observation room. Su’ram and Mordecai followed him, but he would not allow them
to enter the room, as he locked the doors behind him.
He stared at the almost human looking
child as he laid him down on the bed of pillows. Slowly Shra’van walked over to
the window. He stared into space, hoping to see them. “I know you are
watching!” he roared. “I know! You knew this would happen!”
“Yes we did. He is a beautiful baby is he
not?” one of them appeared next to the child. Shra’van quickly turned around.
The Jafren placed a small device next to the child. “A gift
for his mother. She will need to be understood very soon, though we do
admire how you insisted on getting rid of the translation technology.”
“You are the one my mother called Paul,”
Shra’van stared at him as he slowly picked up the baby.
“No harm will ever come to this child,”
Paul assured him. “He is the future of your species. The evolution has begun.”
The Jafren noticed the confusion on Shra’van face. “You remember hearing your
mother say the Yautja do not like change. She was correct.” He slowly laid the
baby back down and walked over to Shra’van. “You all fear change…”
“We fear nothing,” Shra’van snarled.
Paul smiled at him. “You fear losing your
family, losing a battle and change.”
“So this was your plan all along?”
Shra’van stepped back, just in case he had to kill him.
Paul nodded. “We could not completely
interfere, but we could urge and make suggestions. Your mother was very
important in this. She lived a good life.”
“Do not speak of my mother! I know how
she agreed to help your species.”
“We need help from no one.”
Shra’van noticed the angry look on his
face for a moment. If it weren’t for them protecting his ship, he would have
never known they could actually get angry or impose any harm.
“I will not explain the details, but your
mother needed to feel like she was helping our species,” Paul tried to explain.
“We did not take anything from her. Instead, we removed the remaining drugs in
her body that inhibited her from having children. We made her very fertile.”
Shra’van thought about the first set of
triplets then the twins she had a few times after that and nodded.
“You will continue to receive advance
defenses. Your species will try to kill the child.” Paul looked over as the
baby stirred in his sleep. “He will lead many like himself. With
the help of his cousins, Su’ram’s offspring and Wa’jeeh offspring. They
will bring peace among you.”
“We are peaceful,” Shra’van growled.
Paul looked at him and laughed as if he
told a joke. “At the rate you all are going you will continue to hunt the
planets until there is nothing left. You will turn among each other, killing
for the title of superiority. We could not foresee the Yautja’s future because
there is none.” He walked back over to the child again and smiled. “Wherever
him and his siblings go they will have our protection as will you and the rest
of your family. This is a good thing, son of Kayla. Someday we hope to join
forces with Ta’noj clan. We would like to open communication and we now see
that happening. When this child becomes a leader and defeats the opposing
Yautja’s we will share our knowledge with you, and give you the technology to
build Jasmine her food replicator…”
“There is such a device?” Shra’van’s
mandibles twitched in shock.
“It could be,” he smiled. “Until then…”
Shra’van watched as Paul bowed
respectfully before disappearing.
“Jasmine bit her nails as she looked at
Ta’noj. “So are you disappointed because he looks human?”
“Of course not,” he purred softly. “I am
concerned about his future.”
“Don’t be,” Shra’van handed Ta’noj the
baby and looked at them all. “The Jafren just assured me that his future is
more protected than our own. I can not go into details, but this was their
plan. They even assured me that Su’ram will indeed find an Ooman female.”
“Really,” Su’ram trilled softly. Mordecai
elbowed him as Shra’van continued.
“He will be the leader among us all
someday.” He handed Jasmine the small device and instructed her to put it in
her ear. Shra’van nodded before walking out of the room.
“Um, who are the Jafren?” Jasmine looked
at Ta’noj, then his brothers. “And how do they know so much?”
“We do not know,” Su’ram touched the
baby’s cheek. “To both of your questions. Though it does look promising that we will finally find out
someday.”
Shra’van sighed as he sat down in front
of the communications panel. He tapped his claws against the panel as he
recalled the conversation with the Jafren.
“The communication is still being blocked
by them.” Lo’kesh walked in.
Shra’van shook his head. “The baby is
born. They will not block any communication.” He pressed a button to hail his
fathers ship.
“Shra’van,” Sh’lok nodded. “I am
surprised we are able to talk. The Jafren…”
“I know,” Shra’van crossed his hands as
he spoke. “I will explain everything once I see you Father.”
“So you know about Ba’naj?” he growled.
Shra’van nodded. “Do not kill him until I get there.” Shra’van nodded again.
“How is Ta’noj?”
“He is doing well. He just had a boy.”
“I can not wait to see him,” Sh’lok
clicked his mandibles softly.
“Ta’noj or the baby?” Shra’van tilted his
head to the side. His father grunted before turning off the communication.
“Say something again,” Jasmine smiled at
the doctor as he examined her. She winced as he checked to see if she ripped
herself during the labor.
“Annoying Ooman,” he mumbled as he
watched her fit the small device in her ear. Never seeing technology so
advanced, it amazed him that it actually sounded like she was speaking their
language. Ta’noj growled at him and in turn the doctor busied himself with a
meaningless task on the other side of the room.
“We will never agree on a name Jasmine,”
Ta’noj scratched his son’s chin and purred softly.
“Ok, how about Steven,” Jasmine smiled as
Ta’noj snuggled the restless baby closer to him. “Or maybe
Trevor. I like that name.”
“Ugh, such mediocre Ooman names,” Ta’noj
sighed. “I will not dishonor my son with such a name.”
“Ja’wa-har,” the doctor trilled softly as
he looked at them both. “I have always liked that name, but unfortunately all I
have are daughters."
Ta’noj nodded and Jasmine smiled. “I’m
sorry for kicking you.”
“I have seen doctors die at the hands of
females in labor,” he nodded. “You were easy.”
Ta’noj watch Jasmine lay her head back
and sigh softly. After being with Su’ram half the night and talking to him the
other half, then delivering a baby he was surprised she managed to smile. “You
rest. I will take care of our son until you awaken.” Jasmine didn’t argue. As
soon as she closed her eyes she was asleep.
Lo’kesh looked after the child while
Ta’noj prepared for his battle. Jasmine was so exhausted she slept for days,
only waking up to ask if the baby was ok. Per Shra’van’s request, the doctor
kept her mildly sedated so her body could heal properly.
When she slowly woke up Mordecai was
sitting next to her. He was purring softly to the baby and talking to him. “I
will tell you of your great, great, great, grandfathers
glorious battle someday. Then you have to hear of my tales as well,” he looked
over at Jasmine, whom was smiling at the both of them. “I thought I would get a
little practice in. My mate is having a child.”
“Congratulations,” Jasmine smiled.
“We did not wish to wake you, but he
needs your nourishments.”
Jasmine sat up and stretched before
taking the baby. Mordecai watched as she breast fed the small child. “How is
Ta’noj?”
Mordecai sighed before answering her. “He
will fight our mother’s killer tomorrow. This is the battle he has been waiting
for, for over a century.”
“Is he ok?” Jasmine looked down at the
hungry baby and back to Mordecai.
He shook his head, “No, he is not. He
does not wish to see you and the child until it is over.”
Jasmine was silent for a moment. “Do you
think he will survive?”
“His anger may help him survive, but
Ba’naj is one of the greatest fighters I have had the honor of training with.”
Jasmine looked up in time to see Gav’alin
walk into the room. He stood closer to her and looked down at the baby. “I am
sorry I was not in attendance of his birth,” he looked at Jasmine. “Are you
well?” When he sat next to her Mordecai quietly left the room.
“Yes, are you and your father ok?”
“He requested not to see me until the
fight has ended,” he sighed. He grunted in the baby’s direction. “My brother.” Jasmine smiled and handedz a him the baby. “I
appreciate you wanting me to come along on this trip. I still do not like you
much.”
Lo’kesh walked in and nodded at both of
them before he spoke. “Please let her know that Shra’van asked me to bring her
an extra cloth for the pup.”
“I understand you now,” Jasmine smiled as
she pointed to her ear. Lo’kesh tilted his head to the side in amazement.
“Thank you Lo’kesh, for everything.”
“You are welcome. It is nice to finally
talk to you. We shall converse when you are well.”
Jasmine looked at Gav’alin and nodded. “I
think everything will be ok.”
Ta’noj stood in his room. When he felt
Ba’naj ship dock with theirs he clinched his Naginata and roared loudly. The
adrenaline from killing all the years flooded back and he could only think of
chopping Ba’naj head off and displaying it in his trophy room. As he stormed
out of the room Shra’van was already on his way to Ba’naj’s ship. His other brothers
were right behind him.
“Ta’noj and I only,” he growled at them
as they unlocked the doors. “Father will be here soon and you both will be
needed to control him.”
