“I am telling you, this is wrong!” Maha’vin roared as he
paced back and forth. “The Jafren is monitoring all communication. They will
intercept the message and hear everything you send.”
“He is correct,” Sa’dar nodded.
“She has to know that they followed her!” Sh’lok roared.
“Those fools! They will ambush her without us being there.”
“We just have to trust that she knows what she is doing,”
Ba’naj shook his shoulder. “Do not worry. She will be just fine. They will not
harm her.”
“I know,” Sh’lok kicked a chair. It flew in the air before
crashing against the wall. “This has to work. This is not what we planned!”
“You have worked with her far to long for her to mess
things up,” Sa’dar spoke softly. “Kayla is strong.”
“And my son is a hothead.”
“Well, that is what frightens me,” Maha’vin mumbled.
“What if I take a ship over,” Sh’lok looked at them.
“Pretend like I am visiting her.”
“They will have her on their ship by the time you get
there,” Ba’naj growled.
“Not if I’m piloting the ship,” Kul’vir walked in. “You
are all far too loud when you are angry.”
“You are not to silent yourself,” Maha’vin grunted.
Kul’vir ignored him as he looked at Sh’lok. “Our
friendship has suffered, but if Kayla is involved I will help you get to her.”
“It figures you would do this for Kayla and not the clan,”
Sh’lok growled.
“Someone has to do something for her,” Kul’vir snarled.
“Since you have been mated to Lee’na you have completely forgotten about your
first mate.”
Sh’lok roared at him. Sa’dar quickly stepped in-between
the two. “Kul’vir can you really pilot a ship so quickly?”
“I have no doubts that I can make it to Kayla within a few
days,” he looked at Sh’lok. “But some guards may want to come because if I have
to be alone on a ship with him one of us may die.”
“I am the fighter, so we will know who that will be,”
Sh’lok growled.
“I will come along with you two,” Sa’dar nodded. “Kul’vir,
prepare a ship we will leave immediately.”
“My children…”
“I will watch over them,” Maha’vin volunteered.
“Su’tara detests you,” Sh’lok reminded him.
“Do not worry, they have a second mother on the ship,”
Kul’vir growled.
“One more word from you and I will cut your fucking head
off!”
“You will die trying.”
They stared at each other before Kul’vir walked out of the
room. Sa’dar looked at his brother. “I think I should have several guards
escort me.”
(The Gro’thon-ious Ship)
Ju’hi came to Kayla quarters everyday, asking questions as
he thought of something new. He wanted answers, but at the same time he wanted
her. Kayla kept her distance and reminded him of Sh’lok, which made him growl
in anger. In the evening Shra’van would share new words and phrases with her as
he learned them from Em’mi. And every day Lex reminded her that Ju’hi was not
her mate.
“I am starting to see images now,” Ju’hi said as he walked
into her room. “A tall female, with one white lock. And she crosses her arms a
lot. She looks at you as if she knows what you are about to say.”
“That is your mother, Nam’rah,” Kayla smiled as she sat
next to him.
“Kayla, you are giving me my life back,” he touched her
hand. “Thank you.” She touched his arm, but jumped when someone buzzed her com.
When Kayla opened the door she stared at the female. She didn’t have to
introduce herself, she knew it was Na’lam.
She stared at Kayla with the same curiosity. She knew this
was the female that Ju’hi moaned for at night. She never told him that she
listened to his moans before he woke up. Kayla was her mates’ source of mental
pleasure. He dreamed of Kayla, but simply mated with Na’lam. It hurt Na’lam to
know she would always be second to a human female.
“Is my mate, Ju’hi
here?” she questioned as she looked over Kayla’s body.
Kayla stepped aside so she could walk in. Ju’hi stood up
when he seen his mate walk towards him. “Na’lam,” he purred softly. Kayla
watched as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close. Ju’hi
noticed Kayla quickly looking away.
“I was going to go see my father and I wanted to check on
you,” she looked over at Kayla and back at Ju’hi.
“I am fine,” he touched her face. “Where are the
children?”
“With my sister,” she looked at Kayla again. “Kayla I
would like for you to meet our children.”
“I would like that very much,” Kayla lied as she nodded
towards her. Na’lam mumbled something to Ju’hi before walking out.
“Damn, maybe you should give her a laser so she can write
‘my property’ on your forehead?” Kayla mumbled when the doors closed.
Ju’hi laughed at her, “You have a mate and you remind me
of this everyday. Why are you jealous?”
“Because I can remember and you cannot,” Kayla was about
to walk into her bedroom, but he grabbed her arm and turned her around. “I have
no reason to be, but I remember all the good times we shared with each other. I
remember them every time I see you.”
Ju’hi was silent as he stared into her confused face.
“Do you know how long it took you to realize you wanted
me?”
He shook his head no.
“Less than a minute. You told me the moment I ran into
you, you wanted me. That evening I felt the same thing. That is not a feeling I
can forget. It was not the seba.” He looked at her until her com buzzed again.
“The Elder requests your attendance in the communication
room,” A guard nodded at her. Kayla and Ju’hi quickly followed the guard.
“The Jafren wishes to talk to you,” The Elder growled.
Kayla panicked for a moment. Ju’hi caressed her hand softly. When she nodded
they started to talk.
“Kayla, hello,” the smooth pleasant voice came on.
“Hello,” Kayla tried not to sound nervous. “I did not know
we would talk again so soon.”
“We are close by and would like to meet you and your Ooman
friend.”
Kayla quickly looked over to the Elder and he nodded. “My
mate is not with me,” Kayla tried to explain, but they cut her off.
“That is ok. Bring a male from the clan you are visiting
and bring along your son. Also, please inform your friend to bring her family,
and her mate. We would like to meet them.”
“A male from the clan?” Kayla repeated.
“Yes, it is customary in our society for a male to be
present when we speak with a female,” they explained to her softly. “You will
stay with us for a few days and be our guest.”
“Ok,” Kayla bit her lip. “How close are you and when would
you like for us to come see you?”
“Now,” they ended the transmission. They all felt a rumble
and looked out of the window. Kayla gasped as a huge blob shape came into view
in front of them. It was bigger than both ships she had been on combined. It
reminded her of a jelly fish.
“I will inform my guards…”
“No guards,” Kayla turned to look at the Elder. “They are
peaceful and so am I. Is that habitable for us to breathe on?”
“It is a hologram,” Elder Chi’rayu explained. “No one
knows what the Jafren looks like or how their ships really look. When you meet
them, they will either look Yautja or Ooman.”
Kayla was slightly disappointed. She looked over at Ju’hi.
“Please come with me.”
“I will be there for you,” he nodded.
“You do not have my consent to go,” Na’lam growled. “I
watched how she looks at you Ju’hi. Or should I call you Ga’gan now.”
“Later, when I get my memory back you just may have to,”
he touched her softly, but she backed away. “It is to better the clan Na’lam.”
“Whose clan are you trying to improve?”
He stared at her for a moment, “Ours.”
“What clan do you belong to Ju’hi?” she crossed her arms
and stared at him.
“Do not ask me such a silly question,” he looked down as
he continued to pack. “Please give me your consent.”
“Do whatever you like Ju’hi,” she sighed. “But you have to
promise that when you return you are coming back to me. I have been second far
too long in your life. It is time for your fascination with her to end.”
“I do not understand,” he tilted his head to the side. “I
just met her.”
“You met her years ago,” Na’lam spoke softly. “And every
night when you talk in your sleep you remind me of how you truly feel about
her. I thought if you spent more time with this Ooman I will finally have you
to myself, but your ramblings just gotten worse.”
“I talk in my sleep?” Ju’hi couldn’t believe that Na’lam
was just now telling him this.
“You have been saying her name every night since our
ritual,” Na’lam nodded. “If you do not come back to me then we will sleep in
separate rooms until I have my mate.”
“Na’lam…”
“If she were your second mate then I would be completely
fine with that, but she too has a family and I saw how she looked at you. In
that one moment I could see it.”
“You witnessed nothing,” he growled at her.
“I witnessed you and her wanting each other,” Na’lam
whispered.
“Are you ready?” Kayla questioned her son as she covered
his head with the hood of his cloak.
“Yes,” he nodded. “I sense your nervousness.”
“I never met another intelligent species before.” Shra’van
gave her a skeptical look. “Besides Yautja.” The guards escorted them to the
ship where Lex and her family awaited them. Shra’van purred softly at the site
of Em’mi in her family robe. She looked at him and shivered as she thought
about their last lesson together. She had a male touch her breast before, but
the way he touched her sent shivers through her entire body.
Ju’hi stood next to Rua’khe as Lex walked over to Kayla.
“Do you really think it is a good idea to bring him along?”
Kayla explained what the Jafren said and Lex nodded. Scar
walked inside the ship and started to prepare it for takeoff.
“Kayla,” Em’mi nodded. “Why would they request our entire
family?”
“I am assuming because you are half Ooman,” Kayla noticed
she looked a bit more cheery and her cheeks were a rosy color. “Will you be
calling me mother soon?”
Lex laughed when her daughter looked away. She turned back
towards them. “If your son asks me to be his future mate,” she said proudly.
“But I think he is struggling with whom he is. I try to help him, but he is
stubborn.”
(Kul’vir‘s Cruiser)
“We are preparing to dock,” Sa’dar nodded to Sh’lok. It
was a better trip than he thought. He only had to break up three fights between
him and Kul’vir. Both asking him the same question in private, ‘Who do you
think was better.’ Sh’lok stared out of the window at the Jafren ship. It
looked like a giant squishy blob to him. He was told once you go past the
protective coating it was actually the size of several ships, but it looked
more so like a planet, rather than a ship. He remembered his father calling it
a hologram, so their species didn’t think they were in space, but rather at
home. Of course it was all speculation.
As soon as the ship doors opened, Elder Chi’rayu greeted
them. Sh’lok did introductions before asking about his mate. “You are an hour
too late,” he sighed. “They have requested to see her immediately. Her friend
went with her, along with her family. She was also accompanied by Ju’hi.” The
Elder looked at Kul’vir. “Give your father my sincerest apologies. I did not know
it was his son.”
“I do not understand you,” Kul’vir nodded to the Elder.
“Your brother Ju’hi went with Kayla. He has been living on
our ship.”
“I do not have a brother name Ju’hi,” Kul’vir explained.
“I am sorry,” the Elder nodded. “I think Kayla called him
Ga’gan.”
(The Jafren)
Kayla gasped at the site in front of her. It was
beautiful. Everything was clear and it felt like she stepped into a different
time and space. For a moment she completely forgotten she was actually in
space. It was a city. All she could see were lights that appeared to dance in
the distance. “Hey!” She frowned when it suddenly looked like the port to Lex
ship.
“They changed the hologram,” Scar noted. He didn’t open
the doors until he could tell the air was breathable.
“Wait,” Kayla mumbled as she walked over to her son. “Hand
them over.”
He growled at her before opening his cloak. Everyone
waited as he pulled three daggers off his body.
“He is his father,” Lex laughed.
Kayla continued to stare at her son. “He is not done.” She
held her hand out.
“Mother, who will protect you?” he growled.
“They are peaceful,” Kayla pushed his shoulder. “They will
do us no harm. Take off the rest, little Sh’lok.”
Shra’van grunted as he pulled out two knives. “That is
all.” Em’mi smiled at him before looking away. Ju’hi watched in silence. Kayla
still didn’t tell him if they had children together. She was extremely loving
to the unruly child. He looked away as his friend growled at him.
Kayla smiled when they stepped off of the ship and several
figures appeared out of nowhere. Some of them did look like Yautja’s, including
two females. Some others looked human. They smiled at her in return.
“I knew I should have kept my knives,” Shra’van growled as
he took a charging stance. “This is an ambush.”
“Shra’van, it is ok,” Kayla felt a sense of peace among
the strange people that surrounded them. One of the human looking males walked
up to her. Shra’van immediately growled at him. He stuck his hand out and Kayla
shook it.
“I am Paul,” he nodded towards her. He spoke in English,
with a heavy accent.
“That is not your real name,” Kayla smiled. The Jafren had
trouble even pronouncing it.
“I do not have a real name. We know one another without
using names,” he looked at Shra’van. “Is this the male we ask you to bring in
attendance?”
“This is my son,” Kayla turned back around to look for
Ju’hi. When their eyes met he walked over to her. “This is. . .,” Kayla didn't know
which name to use. “He is the male I chose to bring with me.”
“Why did you choose him?” a Yautja questioned as he walked
closer.
Kayla didn’t know if they were as keen as the Yautja’s
when it came to being lied to so she decided to tell the truth. “He was my
former mate. I thought he was dead and I recently discovered he was alive. I
still trust him.” Shra’van looked at her in shock then looked at Ju’hi.
Kayla looked over to see the Jafren talking to Lex and her
family. “If you will follow me,” Paul nodded. “I will show you to your room.”
Kayla looked around the landing bay and sighed. Lex nodded to her as they
walked off with several Jafren’s. She looked back at Paul. He smiled at her and
touched her shoulder. “You are disappointed. It is not what you expected.”
“No it is not,” she nodded to him. “I thought I would be
interacting with another species and not looking back at my own.”
“But you are interacting with a different species,” he
chuckled. When he looked around he noticed everyone else left. Kayla gasped as
he took the shape of a Minotaur. “How is this?”
“Oh my goodness,” Kayla stepped back from him. “Do they
really exist?”
“Not that I am aware of,” they started to walk towards the
room. “I remember reading it from one of your earth books.” Kayla stared at him
as they walked. She was really curious about how the Jafren actually looked, but
knew she would never find out. Despite their appearance their voices were still
the same, angelic. The room was identical to her quarters on Lex ship.
“Where is your sparring room?” Ju’hi questioned.
“We do not have one,” Paul replied softly. “But if you
wish we can generate one for you. We understand your need to fight so
aggression will not set in.”
“You keep saying we,” Kayla noticed. “I only see one of
you.”
“Have you not noticed by now, appearances is deceiving,”
he placed his hand on his chest. “I am many, yet you see one.” Shra’van and
Ju’hi walked away to survey the living area. Kayla continued to stare at Paul
whom was still a Minotaur.
“How many,” she whispered.
“My entire species has greeted you on the landing docks,”
he nodded to her. He made an animalistic grunt noise as Kayla gasped. “Rest
today. We will talk tomorrow. Food will be sent to your room.”
Kayla looked at him in amazement. She wondered how many
different shapes they could take. Paula smiled at her.
“That is what we love about your species,” he touched her
face. “Your innocence is what we try to protect.”
When her doors closed Paul turned himself back into a
human. “Do you think she will help us?”
“Yes she will.” Paul replied.
“Do you think our plans will succeed?”
“Of course,” Paul nodded. “We have come too far to change
our plans. Having her onboard is a good diversion.”
“What if the Yautja’s suspect us?”
Paul shook his head. “They will not catch on. Kayla’s
father trained her just as we thought. She is taking the correct path. Her children
will follow.”
“It is not too late to simply eliminate the threat,” one
of them snapped.
“Elimination is not our way,” Paul reminded him.
“So you are Ga’gan?” Shra’van questioned as his mother
walked into the room.
“I have been told that I am,” he nodded. “And some of my
memories are coming back.”
“So, you expect my mother to be with you now?” he growled.
“I know of your family Shra’van,” he growled in return.
“Do you know of your daughter…”
“Shra’van,” Kayla
snapped, but it was too late. Ju’hi gave her a shocked look.
“I have a daughter?”
“Yes and she does not like
you,” Shra'van huffed. “The great Ga’gan and his many battles. She is tired of
being compared to you.”
“Is she a warrior?”
“She is a fighter,” Kayla spoke softly, “Shra’van go to your
room while I talk to… Ga’gan.”
“My name is Ju’hi,” he reminded her.
“And I told you I can never call you that.”
“Kayla, all the time we talked you never told me of my
daughter,” he said in disbelief. “How can you keep this from me?”
Kayla suddenly felt a heavy weight on her chest. She sat
down before looking at him. He sat next to her. “She is not your daughter.”
“But Shra’van…”
“Everyone thinks it is your daughter, but she isn’t,”
Kayla looked at him before looking down at the floor. “I did not want to have
this conversation with you so soon…”
“I want to know.”
Kayla nodded before telling him everything that happened.
From the night she accidentally finished with Kul’vir until the birth of
Su’tara and his stillborn son. She wiped her tears as she spoke. She was afraid
of how he would feel and react, but he stared at her blankly as she told him
everything.
“So everyone automatically assumed it was my child,” he
finally said as he stood up. He looked out of the window at the only home he
remembered. The Gro’thon-ious.
“Please forgive me Ga’gan,” Kayla walked up to him. “I
have wanted to say that for almost thirty years.”
“I forgive you, but I do not forgive my brother,” he
growled. He suddenly placed his hand on his head and bent down in pain. “Fuck!”
“Are you alright?”
“A blast,” he mumbled. “Is Ne’el ok?”
“He is fine,” Kayla stood closer to him and felt on his
face. “He is your brother. You went to rescue him on a planet.” Without
warning, he grabbed her arms.
“Kayla,” he gasped before holding her tight.
He held her the exact same way when she returned from her
planet. For a moment Kayla held him back. “No,” she pushed him away as his
mandibles grazed her neck. They looked at each other. “Please don’t, because as
venerable as I feel right now I don’t think I can tell you no again.”
“Na’lam is afraid that we still care deeply for one
another,” he stood up and walked to the door.
“Is she correct?” Kayla regretted asking because she
honestly didn’t want to know the answer. Ju’hi didn’t understand why he grabbed
her. He remembered suddenly seeing her for the first time in almost a year and
for a moment he felt like he had just seen Kayla. He remembered her warmth and
her cheek pressed hard against his. He needed to feel that again.
“I am getting more than just my memories back,” he nodded
before walking away.
