A few more kisses in the growing passion and William reached down and
swept her up into his arms. The weakness he had been feeling since he had been
wounded and the bullet removed seemed to have disappeared for the time being.
Perhaps because his thoughts were elsewhere for the moment, rather then on the
wound itself and the pain he had suffered in silence since he was injured..
Tavington carried her to his bed and lay her down on the narrow confines of his
cot, not letting her fall from his touch for even a moment as he lay over her.
His hands moved to cup her face running his fingertips through her golden locks
once more as he looked into her eyes. No words were needed now, each action,
each touch, each caress said all that needed to be said. Months of loneliness,
empty dreams, and cold nights alone in the darkness, seemed to melt away as each
moment passed.
Heather gazed back into his crystal blue eyes. They were always a deep
blue color like two pieces of broken sapphires that were always cold as ice when
they weren’t looking at her. She had seen to many times when others were about
the icy stare that seemed to dare the world to challenge him. Often she wondered
if anyone else had ever seen the look in his eyes that he had now as he gazed at
her lovingly. Once, a long time ago, he had told her that they could not marry
until after the war. He had nothing to give her, nothing to offer except the
position in a family that was not very well thought of for his late fathers
exploits. Yet she did not care. It was not his family name, his title, his rank,
his wealth or his position she loved. She did not want him for a join ring,
measures of lawn, gowns, petticoats nor caps. All she wanted was to be with him,
and hold him close forever. It was what she saw in him in the quiet moments such
as this when they were alone that made her love him so.
Her fingers slowly reached up and caressed his handsome face, he had not
shaven today and a small smile swept her face on her lips at the feel of his
five o’clock shadow against her skin. William closed his eyes turning his face
further into her touch, cherishing the feel of her love and kissed her
fingertips as they past over his lips. “Forever, shall never be long enough my
love . . .” He whispered looking into her eyes once more. Leaning down he
stole another kiss from the warmth of her soft lips letting this soft and quiet
tenderness just engulf them completely.
Tavington wanted to remember her just as she was now, for there would be
many more lonely nights to come. He wanted to memorize every part of her, so
that she was fresh in his mind and he would not have to fear he was forgetting
how good it felt to hold her bare body close to his. His hand glided over her
skin with masterful touches and long caresses. Over her shoulder, down to her
bare breast, to her soft side that felt so incredibly warm and inviting. He
continued to lovingly explore her fragile body, each curve, each line.
Heather had never been weak; she worked very hard to get by before he met
her and while they first courted. Sewing, cleaning, cooking, laundry, and odd
jobs every now and then that gave her money to pay rent and pay for her food.
Even with the strength of her body, she was still incredibly feminine and a
beautiful woman. Her free spirit, strong will, and intelligence often caused her
to step outside the realm of what could be considered normal or proper by
others. Yet there was a mystery and gentleness about her that always caused him
to enjoy and take great pleasure in just being near her. Now that they had been
wed, he took great pride that she wore his last name and no other.
The kiss parted, as he began to trail caresses and kisses down the soft
satin of her throat. Heather closed her eyes feeling his long hairbrush over her
bare skin; sometimes it tickled, but now was not one of those times. Always, no
matter how he looked, he would forever be handsome to her eyes. Whenever he was
near, she couldn’t find the strength or the will to keep from staring at him.
His eyes were so entrancing, his handsome features, the passion he held with
what ever it was he perused, there was no part of him that she did not love. One
of her favorite times with him was when he had not shaved, and his face held a
dark shadow. He was always clean-shaven, but something about the roughness of
his skin, just made her body cry out for him. Heather would never speak of it
allowed, she was certain there was something improper about the way it made her
feel.
Heather held to him, her hands roaming over his back feeling his warmth
cover her from the cold. Breathing heavily he leaned up a moment looking down at
her once more. There was nothing else, no one else, no place else. The rest of
the world was not important and faded away. They were lost in each other just
being able to touch one another and stay close as a husband and wife should. His
arms wrapped around her body and he pulled her against him holding her tight as
they kissed passionately.
Later in the quiet of the night, they lay together on his cot in the
tent. William’s arm was wrapped around her holding her still, while
Heather’s head lay against his chest with her hand resting over his heart. She
had fallen asleep listening to the rhythm of his heartbeat. Tavington brushed
her hair back with long soothing strokes holding her body tight to his own. He
lie awake looking upwards towards the canvas roof of his tent watching the way
the wind moved the material. Williams’s free hand covered Heather’s that lay
over his heart. The sound of the flags beating in protest against the wind was a
very relaxing and common sound. He had never paid it very much mind before, but
now with his wife in his arms, each time he heard these sounds he could remember
this.
Casting his eyes downward, he gazed at his sleeping angel and smiled
slightly to himself watching her rest so soundly. There was no doubt in his mind
that she hadn’t been sleeping any better at night then he had while lying
alone in bed. Even though he felt no restlessness at all, and felt as content as
could be, he couldn’t shut his eyes for even a moment’s time. Tavington
didn’t want to miss a single moment with her while they had this unplanned
chance to spend the night together. He kept his arm wrapped tight around her,
loving the feel of her soft warm body.
Heather had already been through a lot in this war. She had seen things
that a lady should never have to even know existed, much less witness or live
through such horrors. Deep with in, he wished he could have saved her from all
of that, and kept the entire world at bay. From every filthy thing, each rumor,
each malicious thought spoken aloud, ever utterance that made her heart ache or
brought her worry. These thoughts reminded him that he was still quite angry
with whoever it was who delivered rather partial news of his injury where she
could hear it. However, if they had not spoken of his being wounded, she would
not be here now lying beside him. Tavington laid his head back against his
pillow closing his eyes, just reviling in the feel of her body lying against
his.
“You need your rest my love.” Heathers quiet voice whispered breaking
the silence. She looked up at him resting her cheek against his chest once
again. “Am I keeping you awake?” She said gently looking into his beautiful
blue eyes.
Tavington smiled as he looked down at her, “No my dear . . .” he
began, kissing her forehead ever so tenderly, “Your keeping me alive.” He
whispered back gazing deep into her eyes once more. Heather could hear the
sincerity in his voice, as she gazed at him for several long moments. Very
rarely had she seen him this incredibly open and actually seeming like a mere
man. Of course even without his uniform, he was still a Colonel of his majesties
army. But like this, lying with her now opening his very heart as they lay
together unclothed, he could not be anything they thought he was.
Tavington’s picked up her hand that rested against his chest placing a
kiss ever so gently on her knuckles. Pulling back he paused a moment looking at
her hand. It was bare, the wedding ring that he had given her that rested there
several months ago had been stolen away when she was captured. Brushing his
thumb over the spot a moment, before he reached over to his other hand removing
the ring that bore his family crest from his little finger, and slipped it onto
her hand where a wedding ban belonged. That was much more like it, it didn’t
seem proper that she wore his name and not a ring. William kissed her fingers
before covering her hand placing it against his chest once more. Heather looked
up at him a little in shock, “William . . . .that. . . that’s your family
ring. I couldn’t possibly . . .”
Tavington looked down into her eyes stopping her words before she could
say anymore, “You are family are you not? Lady Tavington? . . . You can wear
it as well as I can.” He said lovingly looking into her eyes. He smirked
slightly at the shock that seemed to be there. She was so beautiful, and she was
all his. Leaning down, he kissed her lips and his hand that covered hers moved
to tenderly caress her face, “We are going to have the most beautiful children
my love.” A soft smile crept over her face at the thought of children. She
wasn’t sure if he wanted them, but it was obvious to her now that he did.
Her smile turned into a grin as she leaned up looking into his eyes.
“Both of them?” She said quietly.
Tavington grinned evilly, and said without missing a beat, “All six of
them.” They both laughed at this, for it was apparently
something they were going to have to discuss. He pulled her to lay over his body
and hold her against him tightly, reaching up and pulling her down to where he
could rest his forehead against hers, and closed his eyes. “I do love you.”
He whispered kissing her again. Heather closed her eyes and kissed him back
passionately.
“I thank God each and every day, when I first wake up, and the last
thought as I drift into sleep, for giving me to you William.” She said loving
him even more with every passing moment as she gazed into his eyes. In all
honestly, he hadn’t expected her to say something like that, or to feel so
strongly about him. Tavington felt a wave of shock come over him that she valued
him so much, even knowing the things that he had done and endured volumes of
ridicule on his behalf. He thought for certain that she would have joined the
others in their opinion of him before long. William had dreaded that moment more
then anything, for he always suspected it was going to come. Yet it didn’t.
Nor did it look like it was going to.
Something came over him sudden, this desperate desire and need to hold
her closer, kiss her lips, to caress her body, and make love her filled his body
at her words. Reaching up and brushing the hair back from her face, he kissed
her almost feverishly. After another moment passed, he moved to lay over her,
now that it was she who lay beneath him. Kissing her with all the desire and
lust he was feeling within him.
For the rest of the night, it was how they stayed. Neither Heather, nor
Tavington slept and prayed that somehow this night would never end. They stayed
in each others arms, feeling ones love for the other burning deep with in.
Giving as much love and pleasure to the other as could be given. There was a
bliss in just being together they had found, but they had been kept from
enjoying for so long by the horrid war. Only God himself knew
when they would be allowed to know it again without being torn apart.
