Alone in the dark, Jack sat waiting to be taken before the Council, as someone had informed her when she’d first woken. Several times, she tried to locate a way out of the cell, but came out fruitless. The door was heavy and would not budge, and the only ventilation in the room was a series of holes the size of peas in the ceiling, which was made from an unfamiliar metal that she was sure even the strongest could not bend. Her only option of escape was to wait until they opened the door and try to fight her way out, or hope they put her in with a xenomorph that she could kill and use the blood to melt her cell around her. Both scenarios were highly unlikely. Though she would love the xenomorph to happen. It would be the easier out of the two.
Jack sighed and stood up from the barren bed, stretching to her full height. Since there was no way for her to tell time, she estimated that she had been in the room for at least eight hours. That was based on the fact that she had been to the bathroom- no toilet in the cell- a few times and they had given her food and drink twice. It was starting to get to the point where she had to use the restroom again, but she could wait a little bit. Not having anything else to do, Jack started to pace. She knew she should probably stay seated and rest, not having her medicine and all, but holding still just wasn’t something she could do at the moment. If she didn’t keep moving, she was going to go crazy. Besides, it was helping her think; though most of her thoughts consisted of smart ass remarks she was going to say to the Council. It was better than her dwelling on her brother that might or might not be dead and the man that might have killed him. If she thought of that, she was going to get mad, which it was not an appropriate time to get angry. If she was angry, she might do something stupid. Since she was in enemy territory, doing something idiotic was out of the question. She could end up dead before she even saw the Council. But at least she would be doing something. This just waiting around shit wasn’t really for her. She couldn’t stand it. Even when she was a child she had always been a person of action. If you wanted something or needed something, you get it yourself and do it the hardest way possible. Just sitting around waiting for something to happen never suited her. It’s going to be the death of me! Something needed to happen real quick or she was going to do something herself. Be careful what you wish for was something people heard from childhood until they were adults, and it never really clicked until what they wished for did happen, though not exactly as they’d hoped. In Jack’s case, what she wished for did come true. Something did happen, but it wasn’t what she truly wanted. The door to her cell opened wide and three Arathian males stood in the midst of it. She didn’t need to be a genius to figure out what they wanted. Without question or a fight, she went to them. She even let them put the heavy restraints on her wrists and ankles. Several times she tried to strike up a conversation with them, but they weren’t having it. She did get one of them, with black hair and bright green eyes, to smile once or twice. The looks he received from the other two told Jack he was new, as well as his losing composure. That moment might be the best time for her to escape since one of her guards were new, but she wasn’t even going to try. First, she knew there had to be others lurking around, just waiting for her to attempt an escape. Secondly, part of her was really curious as to what the Council was going to say. The only way she was going to find that out was if she went and actually talked to them. It might not be worth the risk, but then again, it might be. Besides, if she escaped, B’rasch and Hamilton wouldn’t be able to find her when they came for her. It was best if she stayed in one area. “Is it going to be much longer? I’m really starting to get tired,” complained Jack. She was trying to be witty, which she succeeded at, but all the same, she was actually starting to feel exhausted. The poison was starting to creep back up and wear her down. She could feel that her legs weren’t working as well as they should be. Made her rethink how long she had actually been there. It had to be rolling close to twenty hours now. Must have been asleep a lot longer than she had previously thought. Of course, the running she had done before she’d gotten captured could be a factor in all of this. Selest did say activity would make the poison act faster. The man on her right with golden hair and bright blue eyes gave her a look of annoyance. It made her smile. At least she elicited a response out of him. After receiving the smiles from the first male, one she had dubbed “the Cutie” she made it her goal to get some kind of emotion out of all of them. Two down, one more to go. This last one, dark brown hair with thick white strips and light yellow eyes, was going to be a little more difficult to get a response out of. He may not look it, but he was much older than the other two, and harder. The male definitely took his job seriously. A little too seriously if you asked Jack. “Mr. Grumpy,” she had dubbed him. When they reached a single door, Jack started at it incredulously. This was the door that was going to take her to the room of the all mighty Council. She had been expecting something with grandeur and presence and not something so plain and boring. It disappointed her a bit. But, at least she did get her response out of Mr. Grumpy. Seems he didn’t really like getting a foot slammed into the top of his. He was still trying to get to her after she had been pulled into the room by a new pair of guards. The other two seemed to be having a little bit of a problem holding him back. It was a nice small bit of entertainment before she was bored to death by the Council. She already knew all they were going to do was talk. And she already knew she was only going to listen to the parts that she found interesting. Mostly the threats they were going to come up with and the bullshit as well. Really, she should listen to everything they were going to say since it was going to be nothing but bullshit and threats. The room she was forced into was small and dimly lit. It was made to seem smaller with the number of people in it. Including her, there were a total of ten people in the room, most gathered directly in front of her. There was a claustrophobic feeling about it, but Jack ignored it knowing it to be a ploy to intimidate her. Instead, she sat in the chair with a smile on her face. “I’m being obnoxiously childish about this,” she finally realized. “I’d kick my own ass if I could.” The only other woman in the room smiled at Jack flashing her sharp, white teeth. She sat in the middle of all the other Councilmen, and Jack guessed she was the so-called leader. The woman’s hair was graying and very long, the tips brushing the floor. Her eyes were such a vivid green they shined in the dim lighting. “Hello Jack,” she greeted so sweetly it made the other woman sick. “Have you been enjoying your stay here?” “Cut the crap. When are you going to execute me?” Hopefully, this made things go a little quicker. Maybe the woman would actually cut the crap and tell Jack what she wanted. The sooner she could leave the room, the sooner she could go lie back down on her uncomfortable bed and wait for her rescue. It would, also, ensure that her weakness didn’t come out as well. The woman gave Jack a condescending smile that nearly made her squirm in her seat. “Oh, child, we would not kill you. You are our greatest achievement.” The woman stood from her chair and sauntered over to Jack. “But we cannot take the chance of you escaping. You will be contained in a stasis chamber. Once a cycle, you will be awakened for a week so we can run test and so you do not become inept.” Stuck in a tube where she couldn’t fight back or do anything but dream could be considered one of Jack’s worse nightmares. If she had a say in the matter, she would chose death over that, any day. The woman seemed to know how Jack felt, and her smile grew cruel. If the woman would get just a little bit closer Jack might be able to wipe it off of her face. The woman never got closer. She looked to one of the guards. “Take her to the room,” she ordered. “Jokles will know what to do with her.” If Jack could have, she would have attacked the woman right then. The restraints and the guards both were holding her back. And she was starting to get tired. So, very tired. By the time they reached “the room” Jack was extremely tired. She hadn’t thought it was going to be that long of a walk. But she held it together, and hid the fact she was struggling to keep moving her feet very well. Once or twice (maybe more) she had nearly stumbled, but had caught herself just in time. The guards had given her looks, and watched her closer, thinking she was trying to attempt to escape. A fleeting thought of escape crossed her mind a few times, but that was all it was, fleeting. There was just no way she could fight off these men in her current condition. It was too late now. She was already in the room, and they locked the door nice and tight behind her. The guards led her to a lone metallic table in the middle of the room. All around her were thick glass tubes filled with frozen things she could not even begin to describe. The same stuff she had seen when she had gotten lost that one day. Before it had made her sick, now, it just frightened her. She was going to share the same fate as these poor creatures, though she didn’t think they were allowed to ever leave their chambers. “Put her on the table,” a disembodied voice commanded. It could only be Jokles, whoever the hell that was. Jack had never even heard of the Arathian before. The man must have been very reclusive considering she had made it a point to talk to everyone that worked on her and that she had come into contact with. Jokles was a name she had not heard from any of them. Since the restraints made it hard for her to move, the guards helped her onto the table. “You can leave,” Jokles said. The men glanced at each other nervously before deciding to take off. They were a little uncomfortable leaving Jokles alone with Jack. The stories they had heard about the woman made her out to be some kind of monster, and they weren’t sure Jokles could handle something like that. But they weren’t going to stick around either. They valued their lives. Out of nowhere, Jokles head popped into Jack’s view. She was shocked to see he was quite handsome for a man whose age was beginning to show. Somehow, she had gotten an Igor image in her head of the man, hunchback and all. His black hair, yellow eyes and sharp features were definitely not Igor-like. It depressed her slightly. Could have made for an interesting story. Then again, she could always make him ugly. Not like anyone else was really going to tell her she was wrong. The man tilted his head, resembling more a snake trying to hypnotize its prey than a scientist studying a specimen. “You’re sick,” he pointed out blandly. Jack gave the man a quick confused look and he tilted his head to the other side. “I made the poison that is currently flowing through your veins. It was made specifically for you, so it would be easier to capture you. Hasinth and his men were still inefficient. Their failure will not go unpunished.” His head left her view and then came back. There was a sharp pinch in her left arm and she winced. “That was just the antidote. I cannot have a specimen that is tarnished.” Another pinch on her arm in almost the same exact place. “You will sleep now. When you wake up, be prepared for pain.” Fuck off! Jack screamed at the man in her mind unable to verbally say it. The drugs were already taking over her system. She tried to fight them off as best she could, but in the end, she succumbed. Once she was out, Jokles walked to the chamber that she was to be placed in and did his final checks on it. When he was satisfied all was well, he hefted Jack into his arms and placed her in the metal and glass tube Before closing the chamber, Jokles stood by and drank Jack’s image in. She had to be his greatest achievement. After years of failures, he had finally gotten it right. Sure, Selest had gotten all the credit for it, as she had done so for many of his experiments, but he didn’t mind. It wasn’t about the glory, it was about perfection. Though Jack was not what most would call perfect, to Jokles, she surely was. It had hurt him when the Council had ordered her death, though he wasn’t supposed to hear about it. That was way he had given her so much power, so she could escape. Of course, no one knew of it. Until recently, the Council had been dead set on her death. It had taken much convincing, but Jokles had finally got them concede with keeping her alive. Being the smartest Arathian in existence made him a formidable foe, not to mention the many creatures he had under his control. The few Councilmen that had vanished into thin air after the black deaths were released to kill Jack, also, helped convince the rest of the Council she was best kept alive. Since then, Jokles had them all under his thumb. None of them so much as breathed without his consent. All of it, for her. Jack, his special secret creation. He would not allow anyone or anything to harm her. Whatever tried, would soon regret it. He would make sure of that. Good thing he really didn’t have to worry about that at the moment. While she was in the stasis chamber, nothing could get to her. Just in case, he was going to take the extra measure of watching over her. Satisfied he knew every inch of her, Jokles closed the chamber and headed to a chair he had placed in the shadows, that gave him a good view of his prized possession. The machine automatically ran the procedure to freeze Jack. Jokles planned on sitting right in that chair until he was satisfied no one was going to come and attempt to kill or take her. *** *** *** Back and forth the male Hamilton and his mother argued. They had been going at it for about an hour now. B’rasch was really starting to get irritated about it, though he could not understand a word they were saying. He could tell that Mar’tak, who was seated next to him, was getting just as irritated. If the verbal warfare did not come to a conclusion soon, both the yautja males would be going on their own. They already wasted enough time with B’rasch’s capture and the Arathian’s civil war. Considering how long they have been on the planet, they were lucky their little brother was even alive. And that fact was exactly why he was getting so angry that the male Hamilton and his mother were taking so long to conclude their fight. “We will leave with or without him,” Mar’tak said. He stood to his full height and started to head toward the exit. “I will be in the ship waiting.” B’rasch just sighed and continued to watch the pair, who did not even notice someone left the room. If he had to, the yautja would force the pair to stop and carry the male Hamilton away. His little brother and Jack were both counting on it. In the wake of his father’s death, the male Hamilton had told B’rasch of his deal with the Nameless. For a moment, B’rasch rational brain had left him and he nearly throttled the male. It was fortunate that Mar’tak had been nearby and had stopped him. Killing his friend really would not have gotten him anywhere closer to getting Jack back, and the male was the only one that would know where she was, and be willing to help get her back. Though it seemed trying to convince the male’s mother to attack the enemy was not going anywhere. They would have been better off if they had just left and went themselves. But the male Hamilton had been very insistent on getting his mother to go with them. That B’rasch did not understand, but it was not his place to ask. He was just going to keep sitting there until the fight came to a conclusion. “WHY?!” Hamilton screamed for what he felt was the hundredth time in that conversation, if you could call it a conversation. He just couldn’t understand why his mother was refusing to help him save Jack. It wasn’t like he was asking for much. Just a few people to go with him just for backup. Really, the Nameless would probably have everything taken care of by the time they get there. The backup was a just in case measure. “I told you, I will not risk many lives just to save one,” Selest replied, trying to stay as calm as possible. Anro was really starting to push it though. “I understand that you love her, but love is not a reason to get many of my people killed.” Hamilton growled in frustration. “No, you obviously don’t understand. Yes, I love Jack, but not in the way that you think. She is my friend. My best friend, actually.” One thing he could never understand is why his mother and sister were so insistent that he was in love with Jack. Just because he slept in the same bed as her and wanted to protect her didn’t automatically make him in love with her. She was his friend. Who wouldn’t want to protect their friends? “And if you knew anything about me you would know that I would do anything to protect my friends. Especially those two.” B’rasch and Jack were a package deal and he wouldn’t want it any other way. Selest scoffed. She didn’t know who Anro was trying to fool, but it wasn’t her. Of course he was in love with her. Why would someone go to such great lengths to protect just a friend? Her poor son must not understand his true feelings. That had to be it. A look of pity came across her face. “Why do you keep denying what you feel? Do you not understand what love is?” “I KNOW WHAT LOVE IS?!” he shouted so loud his mother jumped and his voice echoed across the room. That was the final straw. He could not stand to listen to his mother belittle him and treat him as if he were a child any longer. “I had a wife!” That was the first time he had told anyone that. Sure, he had joked to Jack when they first met about an ex, but never like this. Thinking about the woman he loved more than anything and lost was too painful. He tried to force it out of his mind. “There is nothing that can compare to the way I felt about her.” His mother looked taken aback. “Don’t look so surprised.” Content laced his every word. “It’s not like you know anything about me.” He had to leave. Get out of that room before he… he just needed to get out. Away from this place. Far away from his soon to be dead mother (even sooner if he stayed). “Come on, B’rasch,” he called in English on his way out. Together, the pair roamed the hallways of the facility in silence. Hamilton’s silence was a pensive one; B’rasch because he didn’t know what was going on. As much as B’rasch was curious as to why his friend had gone from yelling to complete silence, he decided to keep quiet. It would be best for Hamilton to work through the problem on his own. When he was ready, the male would talk. And he was right. “My mother isn’t going to help us.” Hamilton’s shoulders hunched. “We’ll have to do this on our own.” B’rasch had figured as much. It wasn’t hard to tell that the female Selest did not want Hamilton and Jack close to each other. The yautja did not understand why a mother would not want her child to be with his friend. The pair must have an interesting relationship. Maybe it was that love/hate Jack once tried to explain to him? He was still confused on the exact details of that kind of relationship. Jack was going to have to explain it to him further once they get her back. He intended on asking her right away. “We still have to figure out a way to get my sister out of here.” Hamilton sighed. That was going to be the hardest bit of the whole thing. Churo liked to ask questions and just telling her to go somewhere without giving her a reason was like trying to make a black death without a host body. Didn’t work out so great. “Maybe I should knock her out and carry her to your ship,” he muttered under his breath. That would make things a lot easier. She couldn’t ask questions if she was unconscious. He would have to come up with something if they were to run into anybody. It would be a little hard to explain. Hamilton released another sigh. Why can’t things be normal for once? Why is it him who always has to worry about getting killed or someone important to him getting killed? He must have done something really fucked up to someone in the previous life because this one had been pretty much shit from the get go. And things just keep getting worse and worse. Well, it had to start looking up from there, right? His entire life couldn’t be cursed, could it? Shaking his head, he pushed the thoughts away. Now, was not the time for self-pity. There were more important things to worry about. Getting Jack back was at the top of the list, and time was running out for that. The Nameless may have said that they weren’t going to kill her, but what they wanted with her was a complete mystery. For all he knew, they wanted to take her back to the home planet to experiment on her some more, as if she hadn’t gotten that enough. If he got there before the Nameless attacked, he could ensure she would end up going with B’rasch, which had been the plan for a while now. Hamilton was still on the fence about going. Yes, he wanted to get off this planet and go somewhere else, but he wasn’t sure that going with Jack and B’rasch was his best choice. He had always wanted to see the home planet. It would be nice to see where his mother’s people had come from since he had lived with his father’s since the day he was born. If he went with Jack and B’rasch, there was a possibility he would never get to do that. Yautja weren’t well known for being a social species, and he definitely wouldn’t be able to leave since he would be considered a captive. But he wanted badly to be with Jack and B’rasch. They were his friends and would be the only people he knew outside of the planet. Traveling through the vastness of space alone didn’t sound very appealing. He had been alone for so long, now that he found people he cared about once again, he was having a hard time letting them go. “I’ll just have to make a decision on the spot then.” It was the only way that he would truly make up his mind. Wait until they were all together and see what he wanted to do then. If he tried to make a decision beforehand, he was just going to keep changing his mind. He was never good at thinking ahead anyways. So wrapped up in his thoughts, he never noticed that Vegas (who was not paying attention either) was in front of him until he literally ran into the man, hard. Both men end up on the floor. “Sorry,” Hamilton apologized as he got up, “didn’t see you there.” When he saw who it was, an idea instantly came to his mind. “You’re going to tell my sister to meet you in the wood in a half an hour.” “What?!” Vegas was still a little disorientated from the collision. With Hamilton’s help, he made it to his feet. The other man repeated his demand. “Why?” The request was a little weird to Vegas. He would do it since Hamilton had saved his bacon before, but he would still like to know the reasoning behind it. Churo was slowly becoming very important to him and he didn’t want to accidentally put her in danger, not that he thought her brother would intentionally do that. “So I can kidnap her.” Yeah, that came out wrong. There was no way Vegas would go along with that. “I know that sounded a little crazy,” Vegas vigorously nodded, “but it’s for her own good, I swear. I can’t really explain it right here, but I will. Just be sure to be in the woods too. I can explain everything then. Okay?” For several very long seconds, Vegas stared at the other man, trying to decide if he was crazy or not. The look in his eyes was desperate, but it wasn’t that crazy desperation he had seen before that got people killed. It was more of the I-want-to-help desperation; the kind usually only got the person who was trying to do the helping hurt. Vegas agreed to it. If Hamilton got hurt, that was his own problem. Besides, he was a grown ass man; he could take care of himself. “I’ll see you in the woods in fifteen.” Should give Hamilton plenty of time to explain why he needed to “kidnap” Churo. It better be good or he was going to regret it. Great! With that taken care of, now all Hamilton had to do was figure out how to get Churo into B’rasch’s ship without her completely freaking out. The only thing his mind kept coming to was to knock her out. It was his only option that really wouldn’t hurt her. Just sneak up behind her and give her one good whack on the head, and she would be down for the count. At least, this way she wouldn’t panic and get the guards’ attention. That was the last thing anyone wanted to happen. Hitting his sister from behind really didn’t sound too appealing to Hamilton. Drugs were another option, but he had no idea what kind to use. Medicine wasn’t really his thing, though everyone else in his family seemed to know a great deal about them. Asking was another option, but a dumb one. People would wonder why he wanted to know what drug was the best to render someone unconscious almost instantly. “Just making conversation” was not an excuse that would cut it, unless the person was a complete idiot. He wasn’t lucky enough to get one of those. “You don’t have anything that would knock someone out?” he jokingly asked B’rasch. “Knock out?” The ooman language English was still as confusing as ever to him. He really did not like it, but there was no one that knew his language in his present company. He could not wait to get back to his home where he could understand everyone without having to think about it. Then, it would be his turn to teach Jack, and he would not feel so foolish around her any longer. “Put to sleep instantly.” That was the only way Hamilton could think to describe the term to B’rasch in a way he would understand. For some reason, he thought Jack would have covered something like that already. Maybe he was wrong. Or, B’rasch might have just forgotten. It was easy to do that. Hamilton knew from experience. It had taken him a few years to master the English language on top of the others he knew. For a moment, B’rasch was completely silent. It had been his job to check all the supplies on the ship, so if there was something there like the male Hamilton was talking about, he would know. Having mentally gone through everything, he nodded. “We do,” he confirmed. It was a liquid that was drank only by those that were having trouble sleeping, which happened to Mar’tak quite a bit. It took a few minutes to work on his older brother, but he was sure that it would take only seconds to work on the male Hamilton’s sister, if that. Hamilton couldn’t hide the awe on his face. Not only was he impressed, considering he had just been joking, but he was very happy as well. One of the biggest problems he had been facing was out of the way. Now, all he had to worry about was getting to Jack before the Nameless did. That, hopefully, was going to be the easy part. If he timed it right, which he hardly ever did, they would arrive when the Nameless were killing everyone. Then they could just sneak by and find Jack in a facility that was the size of a small island with many hidden rooms. Yeah, easy as pie. “Alright, let’s get this party started.” B’rasch looked to him with a face of confusion. Hamilton sighed again. “Just take me to the ship and show me where the drug is.” The yautja nodded and indicated for the other male to follow. I hope this works. If not, I’m screwed. ~~~~~~~~~~ Another chapter for you all. I hope you enjoy. I had this chapter done last month, and forgot to post it. I apologize for that. Also, noticed that all of my italics disappeared and since I'm updating this at work, I really don't have time to go back and fix it at the moment. I will try to do so when I update the next chapter. Hoping to have that by the end of this month, and actually remember to post it.While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
