It's alive!!! Sorry about the long wait between chapters. I'm a horrible person I know. Just been very busy lately. From now on, I'm going to try to update at least once a month. Got some other writing going that's going to eventually make it online as a couple of web series. Don't know when that's going to happen exactly, but it's going to happen. If any of you are interested, I'll keep you guys posted every time I update this story, which I promise I will keep doing so. Even have a possible sequel for it, as long as you guys think you can handle the once a month update. Now, to thanking my reivewers!
Priscilla- Thanks for the review! I never view myself as good as character relationships of any kind so I'm extremely happy to hear that you like the flow of their friendship. Takes a huge weight off of my chest. Thanks a million. Angelleo- I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying the story thus far. I know my chapters are probably loaded with mistakes. I'm really bad at editing and I like to do everything myself, so it's a working progress. I try to catch as many as possible, but sometimes my brain corrects it automatically. It's a problem I'm working on. Thanks for the review! HTG- I'm assuming this was meant to be sarcastic. I'm sorry that you don't like my character's hypocrisy, but I try to make them as real as possible, and hypocrisy is a fault that a lot of humans have, therefore a few of my characters are going to have hypocritical moments. I'm very appreciated of the time you took to read my story and to review it. Thank you very much. speachestx- I understand a busy life. I may not be as busy as you, but I work full time and am a full time student now, along with doing some side-work and writing. Just read this story whenever you can. It's not going to go anywhere any time soon. Thanks for the review! RevDorothyL- Glad you're enjoying the story. I hope you enjoy this new chapter as well. You review is very appreciated. Thanks! Onto the story! *** *** *** *** Before Jack even made it into the woods, chasing the man that had stabbed her brother, she knew it was a trap just for her. But still she followed him with the hopes of at least killing him before she was tangled up in an even greater mess. Not that killing the man would bring her brother back, if he was dead, but it would make her feel ten times better than what she did. If she could get the satisfaction of hearing the Arathian’s head crunch and bones break as she repeated beat the shit out of him, she would gladly let Hasinth do whatever it was he wanted to do to her. Well, unless he wanted to kill her. Then she was obligated to put up a fight. Slowly, she started to gain on the man. Her arm reached out involuntarily when she believed she was about arm’s length away. Just when her fingertips brushed the back of his shirt, he gained a burst of speed that Jack could not keep up with. Jack had never been the fastest runner, but she could run long distances at a quick pace. Eventually, the man that was now several feet in front of her would tire and slow down. That would be when she would finally get her chance to kill him. Unless she was captured before then. If that was the case, she would have to wait for her escape and then kill him. No matter what, the man was going to die, even if she had to wait years for the chance. She loved when she was right. After a minute passed, the Arathian started to slow down. Just seeing it put a smile on her face and she quickened her pace ever so slightly. When he dead stopped in front of her, Jack wasn’t prepared for it. All she could do was slam into him and hope that she could knock him off of her feet. But when he quickly turned around to face her, bracing himself for her weight, she knew it was all over for her. He had been the bait and the trap itself. Hasinth wasn’t one for taking chances. If he sent this man to get her, it meant that the man could probably kick her ass without breaking a sweat. Or, the man was ready to die by her hands so that Hasinth could grab her. Either way, she was royally fucked. There wasn’t enough time for her to do anything but slam into the guy, hoping to possibly knock him off of his feet. He was a lot sturdier than she had wanted, and the result was her wrapped in the breath being knocked from her, his arms wrapped tightly around her, and a sharp pain in her neck. Without hardly any thought, she smashed her heel into the top of his foot, and pushed him away from her while simultaneously backing up, keeping him in her sights. When she saw the empty syringe in his right hand, instinctively her hand travel to where it hurt on her neck. A small part of her started to panic, and, though she tried to calm it, the Arathian saw it. A mischievous smile played on his lips as Jack started to wobble, hardly able to find her balance. The ground felt as if it were moving, making her recall the time she had spent on a cruise ship when she was younger. She never got to enjoy her cruise, having sea sickness the entire time- even the medication didn’t work. The Arathian moved closer to her. “I’m surprised you’re still standing,” he told her. Jack knew it was the drugs, but his voice kept changing pitch, making it hard to understand. The fact that it was in another language made it even worse. “This is some strong stuff.” He got even closer and she tried to take a swing at him. It completely missed making her lose her balances. She had to catch herself on a tree so she didn’t fall. “A fighter! I always appreciated that in a woman.” Then, his smile vanished. “I hope you kill them all, Jack.” Somehow, her drug addled brain was able to tell he was serious. “Even me if you have to. I saw the same thing you did.” Jack’s legs started to get wobbly and the grip she had on the tree vanished. The drug was finally starting to take full effect and she was quickly losing consciousness. Fortunately, the man caught her before she hit the ground. He swept her into his arms and started to carry her further away from the house. “I volunteered to do capture you because anyone else would kill you and would have killed your brother as well. I made sure to miss his heart.” If she hadn’t been drugged out of her mind, Jack would have been glad to hear the news. Her brother, twin brother, the only person she considered her other half, was going to live! If she had been sober, she might have cried with joy. Though he could be the worst person at times, he was still the only person she has that had understood her when they were growing up and who had cared about her above all others, and she felt the same way about him. That was why she had gone after this man though she had known it was a trap, though she was regretting it a little bit now. Her name being yelled was the last thing she heard before the darkness consumed her mind. It had been shouted by Hamilton who had finally caught up with them, leaving Ashley in the care of his brother and sister. Immediately after she left, he regretted telling Jack to go after the man. He should have known it was a trap from the beginning. The first time they get attacked and they go after the one person Jack would kill anyone over. It had been too much of a coincidence. If the Arathian hadn’t had her in his arms, Hamilton would have tackled him to the ground and proceed to beat the shit out of him. Instead, he stopped a few feet away and stared the man down. “Put her down,” he hissed in his most intimidating voice. To Hamilton’s utter disbelief, the man put Jack down gently, leaning her back against a tree. That was just a little too easy. Hamilton highly doubted the man was going to give up his prize so quickly. It was starting to look like a fight was going to happen, which he was fine with. It had been a while since he had really gotten into a fight with someone, and this Arathian had an imposing feel about him. Maybe, just maybe, Hamilton would actually get to flex his muscles a bit and not outright kill the guy. Hell, the guy might possibly kick his ass. Many, many years had passed since that had happened. It just might do him some good. As long as it doesn’t kill him, that is. No one ever wants to end up dead. “I’ve heard many things about you, Anro son of Selest,” the man stated, standing up straight. Hamilton made a mental note that the man was several inches taller than he. The man would have a longer reach than him. “That though you are only half-Arathian, you seem to have the strength of ten.” An over exaggeration if Hamilton had ever heard one. Sure, he was a lot stronger than the average Arathian, but there was no way he had the collective strength of ten of them. Humans, yes, Arathians, hell no. “Let’s test that theory.” The Arathian’s sickly yellow eyes lit up in excitement. There was nothing left for Hamilton to do but get into a fighting stance and ready himself for the onslaught as much as time would permit him. Hamilton got into a fighting stance as the man got into his own version of one. The way the man was standing threw Hamilton off. It was vaguely familiar, as if he had seen someone use the same technique before, but it had been long enough that he couldn’t quite place it. When he did remember, panic and fear curled into his chest and started to squeeze his heart. There was only one group of people that would use a stance like that, and they weren’t supposed to be on Earth. They stayed on the home planet. It had been Hasinth who had showed him the stance and had told him to fear anyone that used it. “Who are you?” The fear had seeped into his voice, but at that point, he really didn’t give a shit. He might die in a few seconds, so putting up a façade was pointless. The man smiled knowingly. “I have no name,” was all he said and all he needed to say. The Nameless were a group of Arathians chosen from birth to be the defenders of the home planet, because even a peaceful planet needs to work for it. They have no families, and are not allowed to hold any ties. Death and obedience are all they know. Which meant Hamilton was more fucked than he had previously thought. But, there was still one question that he needed to know the answer. Why would a Nameless be on Earth? They weren’t supposed to leave the home planet. If he was there, then he had orders to be there, but no one from the home planet has tried to contact them in years. Something strange was going on. As they stared each other down, Hamilton finally worked up the nerve to ask why the man was there, partially out of curiosity mostly trying to avoid fighting. “To kill all the exiles on Earth with the exception of you and this one.” He indicated to Jack. Relief flooded through Hamilton. The Arathian may want to fight him, but he wasn’t going to kill him. That took a lot of weight off of his shoulders. He could deal with getting the shit kicked out of him, but being dead was a whole other plane all together. “Wait, we’re exiles?!” It had taken him a second to process that. “I thought we were here to help the humans.” That was what his mother had told him while he was growing up. Sure, it had seemed strange to him considering they weren’t living with the humans, but it was his mother, he wasn’t supposed to doubt her. Feeling a little ridiculous, Hamilton relaxed his stance. The Arathian did the same while he said, “Your mother was always very good at lying. It is part of the reason she got stuck here with the rest, besides her little… ‘experiments.’” He didn’t need the man to tell him what kind of experiments his mother had done to get herself exiled, he could guess it all on his own. What he was worried about was his sister. Churo had been only a child when they had left for Earth those many years ago. She had done nothing since to deserve death. “Spare my sister and I’ll let you leave with Jack without a fight.” Jack would be safe. Not only would the Nameless keep her safe, but she could take care of herself as well. Churo, on the other hand, could not fight to save her life, literally. Harming another creature on purpose was not something she could bring herself to do. Even spiders were safe around her, though she was a bit terrified of them. The man’s eyes widened a bit. “Just your sister? You’re not going to plead for anyone else? Maybe you are as cold and monstrous as they say.” It was meant to hurt. To get a reaction out of him. Rumor was Anro was very quick to anger, and he wanted to see that. Just from the look in the boy’s human eyes, he could see that the rumors were true. There was a deep constant fury there form the years of abuse, but in this instance, there wasn’t an outburst. “Everyone else can fight,” Hamilton explained, barely containing his anger, “Churo can’t and will not. I will not have her murdered defenseless, and because of something her mother dragged her into when she was a child.” He didn’t care what the man before him thought of him, he just wanted his sister safe. The others could get what was coming to them. Yes, he would be hurt most of his family was dead, but it was their mess, and they needed to clean it up any way possible, just as they had left him to his own mess when their society had kicked him out. The least he could do was save his sister who couldn’t defend herself. The fact that she was the only one, besides his mother, that could cure Jack crossed his mind as well, and the possibility of him saving his mother was slim to none. Maybe all those years apart from his family had disconnected them from them just a little bit. The Nameless decided that he liked Anro. Liked him enough to agree to his terms. “I will inform the others, but I would remove her from the group to completely ensure her safety. Some of us get a little overzealous when fighting.” Jack was once again in his arms, and he saw a quick flash of pain in Anro’s eyes, as if he regretted letting the female go. “She will not be harmed,” he assured Anro. All the Nameless would be protecting her, though the exiles didn’t know that just yet. They needed all of the exiles together, or at least, most of them, and Jack was the key to that. The rebels would want to rescue her, and they’ll send a majority of their people to do that. It made the Nameless’ job a lot easier. But, if it failed, there were enough Nameless in the group of rebels they could completely eradicate them in a very short period of time. “You have one day.” Unless the Arathians decided to go after Jack, then it would be longer, but Nameless wasn’t going to tell Anro that. It was alright for the young male be stressed out over it all. Hamilton watched as the man started to leave with Jack, but then recalled something. “Wait!” he called after the man. “Is there a young yautja there?” Alive and well, he was hoping. B’rasch and Mar’tak had been very worried about their younger brother, though they tried not to show it too often. B’rasch was a little more open to sharing how he felt with Jack and Hamilton, but Mar’tak kept to himself mostly. Considering the pair had traveled without clan permission a very long way to get their stranded brother not even knowing if he was alive or not. Nameless tilted his head to the side, curious as to why Anro would want to know about the yautja. Then he recalled that one of the male’s companions was one of those species. “I captured the young one myself. Paraded him in front of the people so that exiles’ scientists could do him no harm. A war with the yautja is not something we Arathians of the home planet desire, especially because of the exiles.” The home planet would claim no allegiance with the exiles, but that didn’t mean the yautja would listen. An attack from them would be the end of all the Arathians. Thank the gods some of the exiles still held Arathian values- mainly the ones that had been exiled for the fact their mates or parents were the ones exiled. Hamilton nodded. Though he didn’t know B’rasch’s younger brother, it was a relief to know he was alive and somewhat safe. “We’ll be back to get them.” There was no doubt in his mind that he and B’rasch would get Jack and his brother back from the Nameless. It helps that they had Mar’tak with them as well, though the male didn’t seem to like Hamilton or Jack (especially Jack). But the male would put his feelings aside and work with them. He did save Jack’s life once already, why not again? A short bow of the head from the Nameless, and the man took off with Jack. It took everything Hamilton had to stay where he was standing and not go after them. After he turned around and started to head back to the house, he kept having second thoughts about following the Nameless to make sure Jack didn’t get hurt, but it wouldn’t do him any good. The Nameless was probably much faster than him, and he would take a chance on getting spotted by one of Hasinth’s people, captured, and probably end up dead since Hasinth hated him so much. If that happened, he wouldn’t be able to get Churo away from the group and she would end up dead, which would have defeated the purpose of letting the man leave with Jack without a fight. He only got a couple of feet away from where the Nameless and he made his deal before Monro popped out in front of him. “That must have been very hard for you,” he spoke in a monotone. “Giving up the human woman you love so much. And shit. Now, Hamilton was really fucked. His brother had heard the entire exchange between Hamilton and the Nameless. “Monro, I don’t know what you think you…” Monro punched Hamilton hard enough in the face to knock him down to the ground. While he was trying to get up, he got a couple of swift kicks in the stomach and one in the face. Fuck. Hamilton had forgotten just how fast and strong his brother was. It had been too long since they had gotten into any kind of scuffle, not that this could really be considered a sibling fight. “Stand up, we are not done yet.” Hamilton didn’t want to stand up. Just those few hits and he was already in a great deal of pain. Monro sighed. “Get up! You cannot go back to them without looking as if you had been in a fight. They will think you a traitor.” In shock, Hamilton glanced up at his brother. Monro was glaring down at him, as always. “I still do not like you, but I will save your life this one time for saving Churo.” There was nothing Monro wouldn’t do for Churo. His love for his sister was borderline unhealthy, though he didn’t see it that way. He just wanted what was best for her. Alright. Fine. He’ll get up and take this beating if it’s in the name of saving his sister and his life. He just couldn’t guarantee he didn’t start fighting back. When it came to punching his brother in the face, he could hardly ever resist that urge. What felt like an hour later, but was in reality less than ten minutes, Monro was bursting through the front door of the house, bellowing for Churo to come help him, who came bounding in right away. Her eyes widened to the size of saucers when she saw the condition her little brother was in, and immediately set to care for his wounds as best as she could. “What happened?!” she asked, her voice frantic, as she indicated he set the now nearly unconscious Anro one the floor. Monro did as he was told, though just dropping him hadn’t been what Churo had meant. Anro grunted when his body hit the floor. “He must have gone after Jack once he handed the human to Mother. They probably ambushed him.” He had to admit, repeated hitting his little brother was a lot more satisfying than he had believed it to be. The fact he hadn’t fought back did not bother Monro in the least. When Churo asked if they should take their little brother downstairs and have their mother examine him, Monro rolled his eyes. “Just clean his wounds and leave him be. He will heal in a couple of days. He’s not human, as he likes to pretend he is.” There was so much Churo wanted to say in response to her brother’s comment, but not being one for confrontation, she bit her tongue instead, and watched him walk away. It was obvious why Anro would chose humans over Arathians. The humans had accepted him for what he was, while his mother’s people had cast him out as if he were a piece of garbage. Even Churo had been abhorred by him when his violent side had come out, but she had always tried to be kind to him though he had made it difficult to do so. Churo left her little brother’s side for just a moment to get something to clean his wounds with. By the time she got back, Hamilton was already trying to stand up. “What are you doing?!” She had been trying to go for chiding, instead she got panic. “You can’t move yet! You’re hurt!” “I’m fine,” he muttered, finding his feet. There was something he had to do that was more important than getting a couple of scraps cleaned. “They got Jack. We need to get her back.” I, also, need to get you out of here somehow, he added in his head. That last part was probably going to present a challenge. There was only one day for him to get her out of there, but he couldn’t do it too soon. Too soon, and people would get suspicious, too late and well, she could end up dead. There was, also, the question of where to hide her. Only one place came to mind, and she really wasn’t going to like it. The yautjas’ ship was the safest place he could think of. None of the Arathians would dare go on the ship, even the Namless. It would make Churo uncomfortable as hell, but she would definitely be safe there, as long as she didn’t figure out how to get out of it. Hamilton had been on the ship once, and it had been confusing as hell. Everything was in a different language and it all seemed to be the opposite of what it was supposed to be. Then again, Hamilton had never really been on any ship that was meant for space travel, not even the Arathian ones. Churo was a lot smarter than him, so she could figure it out. Vegas would probably have to stay with her just to keep her occupied. That made him remember all the humans that were currently with them. He had no idea what to do with them. If they were lucky, the Nameless would overlook them or just ignore them completely, but he didn’t think that would be the case. They would most likely end up dead for trying to help the people that pretty much saved all of their lives. There was possibly a way to get word out to them, and only them, but if they all left in a massive horde, the Arathians would know something was up and they would be on guard. Hopefully, when they went to save Jack, they would leave the humans at the base, since they would get in the way more than they would help. That would definitely ensure their safety, and he wouldn’t doubt his mother and the other Arathians have thought of the same thing. Thinking of humans reminded him of something. “Tell mother about Jack,” he commanded his sister as he started to head toward the basement. Churo nodded, her eyes wide. “W-where are you going?” All of it was becoming a little too much for her to process. So much was happening at one time. “I’m going to go see my father.” Cleaning up had never crossed his mind. After all the fights he had gotten into as a child, Hamilton was sure his father was used to seeing his son covered cuts, bruises and his own blood- sometimes other’s as well. His father had never been ashamed of his fighting though, seemingly able to understand what Hamilton had been going through, but never outright saying it. He could probably tell his father what he had done, and the man might actually understand. He could hope, at least. One last thing for Churo to do. He called over his shoulder, “Send B’rasch and Mar’tak down there when they get back. I need to explain everything to them.” By that he meant he needed to tell them their brother is alive and he had let Jack be taken to save his sister’s. Hamilton was really looking forward to that last part. If he was lucky, which he wasn’t, B’rasch would just quickly rip off his head and not make him suffer. That’s what a friend would do. He didn’t even wait for a response, just kept walking. Churo would do as he asked, knowing how important it was. His sister was good at taking orders when it was important. Actually, she was good at taking orders period. Though, if she didn’t like one, she would say so in the politest way possible and refuse to do it. There was a little fire in Churo. Maybe not as much as most, but it was enough to keep her going.
