Kayla walked down several corridors with her guards. They
looked at each other wondering where she was going. She didn’t bother to tell
them she just wanted to walk. In the past they growled at her whenever she
decided to go for a jog.
Kayla and Sh’lok were trying to work out their
differences. They only mated once since they made up, but Kayla didn’t bother
to count how many times she would wake up to him roaring his release inside of
Lee’na. She feared she could have possibly made a mistake and lost her mate.
Sh’lok told her that Kul’vir words were foolish, but deep inside she still
believed them. “Ba’naj!” Kayla gasped as he punched a guard. The two guards
with her made a snickering noise. “What are you doing?”
“Punching a guard,” he said calmly as he walked up to her.
He looked at the two guards with her. “You may leave. I will walk Kayla back to
her quarters.”
“Sorry and with great respect we can not,” one of them
said as he bowed to Ba’naj. “We have strict orders to never leave her in the
company of anyone.”
So he is threatened by me, Ba’naj nodded his head.
“Very well. Walk one hundred meters behind us.” They looked at each other
before nodding in acknowledgement.
“Why so far?”
“I hate being spied on,” Ba’naj sighed. He told her of his
fight with Su’tara. Kayla stopped and looked at him when he talked. “I can not
believe she fights so well. She said you taught her.”
“Sh’lok spars with her as well,” Kayla smiled as they
continued to walk.
“You and I must spar someday,” he grunted.
“I only spar with my family.”
“Like I said, we must spar someday,” he teased. Kayla
laughed and pushed his shoulder.
“You wish to spar now?” he questioned, not understanding
why she pushed him.
“No.”
They walked in silence for a while. He enjoyed her
silence. Usually when his mates were this silent it meant they were up to
something.
“Ba’naj, why were you beating up on that guard?”
“He was speaking ill of Su’tara,” he admitted. “I felt the
need to protect what was important to you.” Kayla looked at him, not knowing
what to say. Ba’naj stopped and touched her face. “How are you adjusting to
Lee’na?”
“I thought we were ok,” Kayla sighed. “We have our
moments. I’m not about to discuss Sh’lok in a negative fashion. He is a
wonderful mate…” She was about to walk away.
Ba’naj stopped her as he looked down in her direction.
“But?” Kayla thought about her conversation with Sh’lok. “You can trust me.”
“I can trust the Yautja who wishes to challenge my mate
for me?” Kayla teased.
Ba’naj stepped closer to her. Kayla tried to step back,
but she was already against the wall. “If I wanted you I could have had you a
long time ago,” as he spoke his scent started to get stronger. Kayla noticed
and looked away. He chuckled softly at her and they continued to walk.
“I think he is developing feelings for her.” Ba’naj
started to laugh. Kayla looked at him angrily. “It’s not funny.”
“Kayla, you silly ooman. Of course he would care for his
mate. If he is fucking her properly and often, the feelings will emerge.” She
felt a little uneasy talking to him about mating. Kayla listened to him talk to
other males and he was always loose with his tongue. “Speaking of fucking...”
Kayla looked away and he laughed. “Every time I look at you I think of your
ritual. The way you bit me and begged me not to stop, the lust in your
eyes." He touched her face, making her look up at him. Kayla looked at the
few white locks that mixed in nicely with his black ones. It actually made him
look distinguished. He wore more rings than she had ever seen on any other
Yautja.
“I thought you were Sh’lok for a moment,” she stammered.
“You keep telling yourself that,” he purred softly. The
doors to her quarters opened and Sh’lok growled at Ba’naj. He looked at Sh’lok
for a moment and growled back, louder and deeper.
“Thank you for walking me to my quarters,” Kayla
interrupted their growling match. She touched Sh’lok’s chest. Usually when she
touched him, he would look down at her. He continued to stare at Ba’naj.
“I am of no threat to your family son of Aa’rth,” Ba’naj
nodded to him. “At least not right now. We have a job to do and that is to
acquire new technology.”
“After our job is done?” Sh’lok questioned. “Do I have to
kill you then Ba’naj?”
Ba’naj folded his arms and laughed. “Depends on how I feel
about Kayla,” he answered honestly looking down at her. “If you’re not fucking
her right, trust me, somebody like me will.” Kayla tried not to shiver at his
words, but they both noticed. Ba’naj chuckled, “See, she likes the idea.”
Completely embarrassed, Kayla walked into their quarters and straight to her
room.
It didn’t take long for Sh’lok to walk in. He watched her
looking out of the window. She was really watching his reflection. “What in the
hell is your problem?” he growled at her. “You wish to be a part of his harem?”
“I’m already a part of one,” she growled back. “After our
talk Sh’lok you still treat me the same. I don’t know how much longer I can do
this.”
“You are never around Kayla!” he yelled at her. “How can I
treat you differently when you are constantly running out of the room?”
“I’m afraid to stick around and get my feelings hurt
again…”
“I am Yautja,” Sh’lok explained. “I am not going to chase
you.”
“Why not? Is it because I am ooman? Do you chase Lee’na?”
Sh’lok was quiet for a moment. He knew it didn’t matter what he said, she would
still not listen to him.
“Lee’na is pregnant,” he blurted. Kayla turned around to
look at him. She didn’t know what to say. “She thought I should be the one to
tell you. Lee’na is afraid that the news may upset you.”
“I thought she couldn’t have children?”
“It just took the right Yautja,” he grunted. He looked at
Kayla’s expression. She was shocked and hurt. “You can become pregnant whenever
you like. You don’t have to take the shots anymore.”
“Do not mollify me Sh’lok,” she yelled at him. “As much as
you fuck her I’m surprised it wasn’t sooner.”
“Fuck?” he repeated. “Have we been listening to Ba’naj
lately?”
“At least he listens,” Kayla stared at him. She could tell
her words stung and for a moment she wished them back until he spoke.
“You know what Kayla, go ahead. I give you permission to
go and fuck Ba’naj. I would tell you not to complete it, but we know how that
will end up.”
Kayla knew what Sh’lok was doing. She took in a deep
breath to remain calm as he folded his arms and waited for a reaction. “Thanks
for the permission. I will keep it in mind, but at least my children will not
go fucking everything at a young age in search of a mother figure.” Sh’lok
roared angrily at her. Kayla stood and folded her arms. “You do not want to
play this game with me Sh’lok. You will loose.” Kayla walked out and went into
Su’tara’s room. Luckily enough, her daughter wasn’t there to see her break
down.
Sh’lok gasped for air as he griped the railing near the
window. He had never been so angry with Kayla. Any other female would have
shown a sign of fear, but not his mate. She stood tall. For a moment he was
proud of her. At the same time he was disgusted with himself. He was fighting his
feelings for Lee’na and hoped that Kayla couldn’t see them, but it was obvious
she did. He loved Kayla dearly, but he felt closeness to his other mate whom
was now carrying his child.
Kayla quickly turned around as Su’tara’s door opened.
“Mother you are right,” she smiled at Lee’na. “It is beautiful.” She looked up
at Kayla. “Mother, are you alright?” Kayla couldn’t hide the fact that she been
crying.
Lee’na eyes opened wider as she stared at Kayla. She knew
by the way Kayla stared back at her, Sh’lok told her about the pregnancy. She
didn’t want to tell Kayla thinking it would upset her. Lee’na painfully
remembered what she attempted to do to Ne’el’s mate and touched her stomach.
“Excuse me,” Kayla quickly left the room. The guards
followed her as she went to the communication room. “Are we in radio range of
the Gro’thon-ious ship?” she questioned as she nodded at one of the officers.
“Yes,” he nodded in return before looking at the ship’s
gages in front of him. “Whom do you wish to communicate with?”
Kayla walked over to the small private room that elders
used when talking to other elders on different ships. No one could hear the
communication in the room. “Lex,” she said before closing the door. Kayla
waited until she heard her friend’s voice.
“Hello Kayla,” she said in surprise. “Please tell me you
are coming to visit.” Kayla couldn’t control her emotions and started to cry
again. Lex started to panic. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m loosing my family,” she sniffled. For a moment Kayla
felt foolish, like Lex was her mother and she was crying over a broken toy. “I
don’t know what to do anymore.”
“It will be alright Kayla,” she tried to soothe her by
talking softly. She knew Kayla had problems before with her family but she
never heard her break down and cry. “You are a few weeks away. Spend a few days
with me to relax and we will catch up.” Kayla nodded before realizing her
friend couldn’t see her.
“Thanks Lex.” She leaned back when the transmission was
terminated. Kayla sat for a moment as she tried to regain her composure. It was
almost evening time and the last thing she wanted to do was eat. She couldn’t
pretend to be happy. Lee’na was having Sh’lok’s baby. She could only picture
Lee’na getting bigger and Sh’lok purring every time he looked at her. Kayla covered
her face as she attempted to erase the images from her head. Kayla thought of
Ba’naj. The knock on the door woke her up from her thoughts. She pressed a
button for the door to open and Kul’vir stared at her. Kayla looked away and
sat back down.
Kul’vir watched her go into the communication room. He was
curious about her actions. He sat across from her, not saying anything. “Are
you upset because you are second?”
“Kul’vir I can’t deal with you right now,” Kayla said,
burring her face in her hands. After a moment she managed to look at him. “I am
telling Su’tara that you’re her father.”
“You can not do that,” he growled at her. “It would ruin
the relationship between Stef’na and me.”
“I’m not worried about your relationship,” Kayla snapped.
“I’m loosing my family Kul’vir. My daughter was assaulted. My mate is falling
for another female, whom is having his baby. My oldest son disrespects me on a
daily basis and the only person that makes me smile is my youngest son.”
“If you had chosen me as a
mate you would have never had these problems,” he roared at her as he stood.
“Why Kayla!”
She looked up at him. His large body towered over her.
When Kayla stood up she suddenly realized how large Kul’vir was now. For a
moment she thought of Ga’gan. “Is that the reason you have been angry with me?
For over twenty years your anger came from me accepting Sh’lok as a mate?”
“Do you know how many times I asked you,” he yelled. “All
the times you laughed about it. For years I tried to understand what was wrong
with me. Why is it you continuously rejected me. The more I tried to understand
the angrier I became.” Kayla could tell he wanted to say more, but for a moment
he was at a lost for words. “I wanted to hurt you and your family as much as I
was hurting inside.”
“I couldn’t become your mate because I love you Kul’vir,”
Kayla said softly. She noticed his eyes softened and he slowly sat down. Kayla
sat next to him. “I told you friends last forever and mates don’t. I realized
the last time we mated it was our goodbye to what should have never happened.
Though Ga’gan was gone, I couldn’t turn back around and tell you to be my
mate.” She looked over at Kul’vir. “I never thought I would not be friends with
you. You are the first Yautja I ever met. You were always there for me.” When
she touched his hand he purred softly. Kayla leaned her head on his shoulder
like she used to, and he looked down at her. He could feel the warmth of her
tears on his arm.
“I know how Maha’vin feels,” he admitted to her. “The
anger and rage. It embarrasses me to feel this way, yet I can not stop it. I
know my family thinks I am going mad.”
“I do feel, second,” she let out a chuckle. “Oh God
Kul’vir, what have I done?”
“Who is God?” he questioned.
“Never mind.”
“Sh’lok cares for you deeply,” he admitted. “More than any
female I had ever seen him with and that includes Lee’na. There is no first or
second with him. I was angry when I said that.”
“No, you were right. We haven’t mated in weeks. He mates
with her on a continuous basis. We can barely talk to one another anymore.”
“Lee’na is having his baby?” he clicked his mandibles in
question.
“Yes. I too want a baby,” Kayla stroked his hand gently.
“Ta’noj is too big to put on my lap now.” He laughed at her joke. “I haven’t
seen you laugh in years Kul’vir.”
“Yes I know,” he nodded. “Kayla I am sorry for the mental
harm I imposed on you. I will no longer interfere in the Jafren mission.”
“Interfere?” Kayla sat up and looked at him.
“I sent the distress signal so they could initiate contact
early,” he admitted. “I thought it would catch you all off guard and they would
see through the plan.”
“Why would you do that Kul’vir?” Kayla was shocked at his
confession.
“Jealously, rage,” he said softly. “My former best friend.
My father praising him at all times. You not wanting me…” his words trailed
off. Kayla stood up and walked in front of him. She opened his legs and he
growled at her in warning. Kul’vir didn’t expect to feel her arms around him.
Kayla closed her eyes when his arms encircled her waist.
“Do you still think I made a bad choice when it came to
choosing Sh’lok as a mate?” she murmured.
“I will always think I am better,” he grunted. “But I will
now respect your decision. It will not stop me from asking you to mate with me
from time to time. I am still weak when it comes to your scent.”
“Did you kill Kon’kan’s brother?”
“Yes.”
“Thank you,” she whispered before shaking his mandible
like she use to. He playfully swatted her hand away.
By the time Kayla returned to her quarters everyone was
done eating. She checked on her kids before going into one of the foyers to lie
down. There was no way she could tolerate lying in the same bed as Sh’lok and
Lee’na. When Kayla woke up Ta’noj was sitting across from her. “I was not going
to leave until I knew that you were alright,” he purred.
“I’m fine Ta’noj,” Kayla smiled. If it wasn’t for him she
would never smile. He trilled softly before touching her cheek.
“Shra’van is practicing. Su’tara is with Lo’kesh and
Father is overseeing some ship repairs. I do not know the whereabouts of
Lee’na.”
“Thank you my son,” Kayla sat up to stretch. Ta’noj nodded
to her and left. Kayla managed to avoid everyone except Ta’noj for several
days.
Sh’lok knew she was avoiding him. He watched her at night
several times, as she practiced with Ta’noj. He missed her greatly. He dreaded
giving her permission to mate with Ba’naj. He couldn’t be angry with her if she
acted upon it. Nonetheless he was still angry by her words.
Kayla was looking for Ta’noj one day and accidentally
walked in on a meeting. Sh’lok and the other males turned to look at her.
“Sorry, wrong room...”
“Wait,” Maha’vin stood. “You are considered leader Kayla.
You should stay.”
Sh’lok stared at her. When she looked at him he nodded.
“Maybe after the meeting you can tell me where in the hell you have been
hiding,” he growled in the elder’s language.
“Don’t worry, I haven’t been with Ba’naj if that’s what
you’re concerned about,” she snapped.
“I do not understand, but I heard my name,” Ba’naj
grunted. The others started to chuckle. Kayla sat next to Ba’naj and across
from Sh’lok.
“Ooman,” Sh’lok mumbled as if it were an insult.
“Yautja,” Kayla mumbled in return. Several males growled
at her as if it were a challenge. Kayla pulled her sticks from under her dress
and sat them on the table as she looked at the males who growled. She stared at
them until they looked away. Ba’naj grunted in approval and Maha’vin nodded his
head. Sh’lok was impressed as well, but he didn’t say anything.
They talked over
various subjects from the eta’s to the training schedules and the list of the
next few hunts. “Before you arrived I was telling Sh’lok that we are being
followed,” Sa’dar nodded to Kayla, “The Jafren has been watching us since we
spoke with them.”
“They do not know that we can sense them on the radar,”
Maha’vin added.
“Thanks to the Kerrod technology,” Ba’naj grunted.
“Kerrod?” Kayla tried to repeat. “There is another
intelligent species?” Some of the males started to laugh and Sh’lok growled.
“Hundreds,” Maha’vin chuckled. “Some we respect and some
we kill.”
“I say we should allow Kayla to train the pups,” Sa’dar
nodded. “We are short a trainer since Maha’vin is going out with the new group
that’s leaving today.”
“She is a breeder,” Ya’sha barked. “She could be
pregnant.”
Kayla laughed in disbelief. “Maybe if I was getting some I
would be,” she mumbled to herself as she looked over her tablet. They started
to laugh. Sh’lok growled at her. Kayla looked at him and cocked her head to the
side. When she raised an eyebrow he almost roared at her.
“Stop acting so jealous and join Lee’na and myself in the
bedroom,” he grunted at her. “My dick is not going to run to you.” The males
started to laugh again as Sh’lok crossed his arms. Though she was furious she
could read his posture. He was challenging her. He never talked to her in such
a lewd manner in front of anyone. She took it as a sign of disrespect.
“And until you learn that you have two mates and not one my
pussy is off limits,” she snapped at him. She turned and looked at Ba’naj. He
purred in her direction. Kayla looked back at Sh’lok. “Well, off limits to you.
Since you gave me permission to fuck Ba’naj I guess he is the only one who can
have it.”
Ba’naj gasped and stood. He quickly looked at Sh’lok.
“Really I can fuck… sorry, mate with Kayla? Oh my goodness. I must go and beg
P’tea. If she says yes so will the others.” Sh’lok stared at Kayla. His eyes
were dark and he couldn’t control his temper any longer. He roared in her
direction. Kayla folded her arms and stared at him.
“I said that out of anger!” he yelled at her as he stood.
“Ba’naj is not mating with you.”
“I read your laws,” Kayla stood up as well. “Once you say
it your word is final.” Sh’lok watched Kayla read a lot and she carried a
tablet with her at all times, but he never thought she read about mating. He
didn’t know what to say because she was right. Ba’naj grabbed Kayla and
whispered in her ear.
“I know what you are doing and if you ever use me this way
again I will fuck you. And you will like it.” Kayla shivered from his words. He
groaned softly when he smelled her scent. Ba’naj turned his attention towards
Sh’lok. He watched him carefully. He knew Sh’lok had daggers hidden on his body
and he was quick to throw one. “Well I’m going to find my mate and get
permission.”
“You just remember Sh’lok,” Kayla spoke softly in English.
“If you put me second you too will be second.”
“You’re not second,” he argued with her.
“What you say and what I feel is two completely different
things,” she argued back.
“This behavior is not appropriate for leaders!” Maha’vin
growled, interrupting their English banter.
“They are young,” Ya’sha chuckled. “They will learn.”
Sa’dar nodded in agreement.
“You two are the smuggest couple I have ever seen,”
Maha’vin growled as he stood. “If this behavior does not stop I will be forced
to mediate with the others and come up with a suitable time for confinement.”
Kayla looked at him like he just went mad. “You can’t do
that.”
“Yes we can,” Sa’dar nodded.
“Well if you confined us together Maha’vin I am sure
Sh’lok would go crazy because he would be away from Lee’na.” Sh’lok roared at
her again before slamming his fist on the table. Kayla looked at the impression
he made on the metal table with his fists.
“You two were meant for one another. Just make up,”
Maha’vin pleaded.
Kayla looked at Maha’vin. “I don’t know if that is even
possible anymore.” She looked at everyone else. They all had a surprised
expression on their faces. She strapped her sticks back on her thigh. “My
apologies, for disturbing your meeting and for my unruly outburst.” Kayla
nodded and left.
“I got you something,” Su’tara trilled softly as Lo’kesh
followed her into her room.
“But I am leaving,” he reminded her. “Can I take it with
me?”
She held up a plant. “It is from my mother’s planet,”
Su’tara explained as he looked at it carefully.
“Thank you,” he nodded. He picked one of the leaves off
and ate it. “It is somewhat bitter.”
“You’re not supposed to eat it,” Su’tara smiled. “Your
room is so bare and has no personal things in them.” Lo’kesh looked around her
room and noticed she had several of the same plants. Different color fabrics
covered her lighting to give everything a soft glow. Su’tara even covered her windows
with the same thin fabric that was used for the female’s dresses. On a stand
near her bed sat a golden pyramid. He watched her touch it once and the top of
the pyramid started to glow and produce images of Yautja’s fighting the kainde
amedha. Lo’kesh jumped and growled when he first watched it. It was extremely
real and life like to him. He had never seen such an object.
“Decoration,” he said slowly with a nod. She nodded in
return. “Keep it until I return. I do not wish for it to die.”
“Please be careful,” she said softly as she touched his
face. It was Su’tara’s first time seeing him in his hunting attire. He
displayed his new weapons proudly. He hadn’t touched her since her horrid
incident with Kon’kan. Lo’kesh thought about it everyday, but respected her to
much to mention it. He felt her take his hand and place it on her waist.
Su’tara stepped closer to him and purred when his mandibles brushed across her
cheek and neck. He too started to purr as his hand caressed her back and moved
up to her neck. “I never thought I would feel this way again.”
He stood up straight and looked down at her. “You are a
strong female,” he growled playfully. “I must go.” He balled up his fist and
placed it on his chest. He opened his fist and placed his hand on her chest.
“My heart is yours.”
Su’tara trilled softly. “Only mates do that,” she smiled.
“I know,” he nodded.
She answered him by doing the same gesture, “And my heart
will go with you. Be safe.” She watched him leave before sitting down on her
bed.
