Chapter Thirteen The Sons of Ipswich followed the witch in a single file line through the forest as she followed her vision. The sun was reaching noon above them, but the forest was shady and cool. It seemed they had been hiking for a half hour before Madison came to a halt. The trees had now opened up to a clearing in the center of which stood a long altar of stone. Madison held out her arm so that the boys knew they should not go further. They gathered behind her, gazing at the altar and wondering what she was seeing in her vision. “What’s happening now, Madi?” Pogue whispered. “There’s a man tied down to a stone altar. Everyone is circling around him. I think they are going to do some sort of ritual,” she whispered back. “Do you think you can expand your energy, Madi, so that we can see it too?” Caleb asked. Madison glanced at him. “I have no idea. I can try, though.” It had never crossed her mind that she could do something like that. But then, when Reid had made himself Captain Jack, wasn’t that an illusion too? One that he shared with her by expanding his energy? “Everyone put a hand on me,” she said, taking a deep breath and concentrating on being a bubble of energy, one that grew to encompass the boys as well. “Whoa, it’s working, Madi,” Tyler grinned. “I can see them.” “Good,” she replied, not realizing how black her eyes were at the moment as she shared her vision. “Let’s see what they do. I think it’s an Ipswich coven from long ago.” The vision coven was standing around the man on the altar who was trying to twist out of his bindings, obviously in distress. It was odd because his eyes were black with his power, revealing that he was a warlock, yet he couldn’t untie the ropes holding him. Somehow his power was ineffective at the moment. Madison wondered if the altar had something to do with that. “Elizabeth, you must do it,” a coven member spoke. A figure stepped forward, pulling off her hood and revealing a young woman with auburn hair. Madison gasped. “She looks a lot like you,” Reid commented. “I think she may be one of my Marish ancestors,” Madison replied. Elizabeth moved until she was standing at the end of the altar where the head of the warlock lay. His eyes looked into hers and he snarled. “Get away from me witch!!” Elizabeth placed her hands on either side of his head, covering his temples, and began chanting, “Be gone, sly Rael, be gone for good. You are banished from Ipswich, never to return.” She repeated these words, over and over, and the coven soon picked up the chant, adding their power to hers. Madison and the Sons watched as the warlock on the altar began screaming as if in great pain, his body twisting and contorting, pulling on the ropes. It was difficult to watch, yet they couldn’t look away. After what seemed like a particularly painful contraction, a black mist rose out of the chest of the warlock. The mist gathered and took shape as the chanting continued, growing louder. Madison reached out, grabbing Reid and Caleb’s hands on either side of her and squeezing them as the mist formed a very evil looking demon with large yellow eyes and horns. The demon snarled at Elizabeth in hatred before it was repelled straight into the sky, burning through the trees. Lightening arced through the sky and seemed to scatter the demon into the night. “It is done,” Elizabeth said, “the demon is gone.” The man on the altar was breathing heavily, drenched in sweat from his struggle. “What… what has happened here?” he panted. “What have you done to me?” “You are free now, Charles. The demon is gone. You have your second chance at life,” Elizabeth said, kissing his forehead. “A demon? What do you speak of?” Another coven member stepped forward, pulling off his hood and revealing his face. “When you used your powers to take a life, you left yourself vulnerable to demons. The demon, Rael, took possession of you. But we have expelled him. This is your second chance, Charles. Do not tempt the demons with evil again.” Charles closed his eyes and nodded, exhausted. “I shall strive to a better man, like you, my brother.” The vision faded and the clearing brightened with sunlight. All that was left was the old stone altar, empty. The new little coven stood a moment in silence, thinking about all they saw. “Those were our relatives,” Tyler finally said. “So many, though. I counted thirteen.” “Must have been many more witches back then,” Madison mused. Pogue looked over at Caleb who was standing with a strange expression on his face. “Caleb, you all right?” Caleb sighed and nodded, glancing at Pogue. “Yeah, was just thinking.” Pogue nodded back. “You might be thinking what I’m thinking.” “Chase?” Reid asked. “You think he has a demon?” Caleb shrugged. “I don’t know. But he did kill his adoptive parents and that kid from our school. Maybe there are more murders he did that we don’t know about.” “Or maybe Chase is just a power hungry psycho,” Tyler frowned. “Could be that too,” Pogue agreed. “But I’m thinking that Madi was shown that vision for a reason.” “I never really thought of my visions as messages,” she replied. “I guess I should start paying more attention to them instead of trying to cut them off.” Caleb put his hand on her shoulder, rubbing it. “If we are around when they happen, you should share them. We can help you figure them out.” She nodded. It sounded great to her. She was tired of being alone with that particular so-called ‘gift’. It scared her quite often. “Enough with the gloom and doom,” Reid announced. “Let’s have some fun.” OOOOO The boys took Madison to an old granite quarry where they had played for the first couple of years after receiving their powers. It was a fantastic series of cliffs and platforms and she laughed as the boys showed off their magical prowess. They flew up, jumped off cliffs only to land on their feet easily, and threw balls of energy at the cliffs, sending rocks blasting in all directions. Everyone especially exclaimed over Caleb’s particularly big energy balls that rammed into the cliffs, starting rockslides. They had to jump up and fly out of the way. Madison sat near the bottom of the quarry, watching the action, and soon Pogue joined her as the others kept playing. He sat down next to her and nudge her shoulder. “Hey,” he said. “Hey back,” she nudged in return. He sighed. “You know, I’m starting to get a complex.” “Really?” “Yeah. It’s been a whole week since I invited you to come to me and you haven’t shown. I’m thinking, maybe I turn you off.” She laughed softly. “On the contrary.” She let her eyes sweep over his body. “You make me wet every time I look at you.” She loved the effect her words had on him. His eyes darkened with lust and his breathing became shallow. “Then what’s stopping you?” “Nothing,” she whispered, leaning in to kiss him. She intended the kiss to start off softly, but Pogue deepened it instantly, sighing with need as his hand rose to hold the back of her head. Suddenly a ball of energy smashed onto the ground next to Pogue, startling them. “What the fuck!” Pogue swore, looking at his brothers standing on the cliff staring at them. Tyler looked livid, while Caleb and Reid appeared as if they were trying to hold him back and calm him down. “Tyler’s jealous, I believe,” Madi said. “He could have hit you!” Pogue growled, rising to his feet and rushing toward the cliff, flying up to where the other Sons stood. “What the fuck, Tyler? You could have hurt Madison?” Pogue snapped. “I said no messing with Madi today,” Tyler seethed. “What? You’re the boss now?” Pogue snarled. “You don’t fucking own her, Tyler. You know how it is.” Madison had now flown up to where they stood, looking from Son to Son. “You are arguing because of me, aren’t you?” she said, feeling bad. “Don’t worry about it, Madi,” Reid replied. “We fight sometimes. It happens,” he shrugged. She walked up to Tyler and hugged him. He was stiff at first, not returning her embrace, but then he softened up and wrapped his arms about her as well. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I can be an asshole sometimes. I just…” “I know,” she whispered in understanding. Tyler wanted to be her boyfriend, yet he had to share her with the others. “Ty,” Caleb spoke up, “we are not trying to antagonize you. You know we need some of Madison’s time too. In the eyes of the public and everyone at school, Madison’s your girlfriend. Everyone already thinks that. But in private, you’ve got accept us being with her.” Tyler sighed. “I’ll accept it, but I don’t have to like it. And I don‘t want to have to see it.” “Just don’t make Madi feel like she’s doing something wrong,” Pogue grumped. “That’s not fair to her.” Tyler nodded, hugging her tighter. “I’ll try.” OOOOOO That evening Madison was walking back to her room from the showers when she ran into Kate. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
