When he came to, he could tell two things:
One: He hurt everywhere.
Two: His side hurt the worst.
Fuck.
That wasn't good.
That damn explosion had been far too close for him to be completely unscathed.
His side felt strange, wet and warm in the cold air and he was struggling to breath. He hissed in pain, fingers probing the area before lifting them up, drenched with blood. Broken ribs more than likely and more than one may have punctured a lung which would explain why it was so hard for him to take a kriffing breath.
"Well fuck."
"Fett! Mando, we need an evac now. That shrapnel grenade went off too close. Fett got hit."
"Ferrik! I'm on my way!"
Shand was pressing down on the wound, applying as much pressure as she could but the blood welled up between her fingers.
"Shit! It's not stopping Fett."
He was starting to fade in and out of consciousness. He motioned weakly to his helmet and Shand undid the fastenings, quickly pulling it off. He coughed, gasping in pain.
"Fuck. Cen's going to kill me."
"Not if this does first!"
"She still would. You would like her. Tough...smart...beautiful. Best decision I made."
Fennec smiled down at him, "Really now? How so?"
He chuckled weakly and she rolled her eyes. "You're literally bleeding out and all you can think of is how good of a fuck she was?"
He shook his head, "Best mechanic alive but yeah, hell of a fuck."
"Men." He grabbed her wrist tightly wincing in pain.
"This isn't looking good, Shand. If I...I need you to do something. For her."
She scoffed, "You die? That's laughable. You'll outlive me...Mando...hell you'll outlive all of us."
He shook his head, coughing again, this time spitting up blood.
Her insides turned to ice.
Shit. That meant a punctured lung.
She grabbed her radio, "Damn it Mando! Now!"
"Kriffing bandits shot the engine out!"
"Shit! Hold on, okay?" She grabbed her rifle and using one arm held it up, scanning the layout while simultaneously keeping pressure on the wound. Finally her scope landed on Mando's speeder. Or what was left of it.
She quickly shot off two rounds, downing two bandits on either side of Mando.
"Thanks for the assist."
"Boba may have a punctured lung. How close is the ship?"
"Fuck! Its a few meters away, but moving him could make it worse."
"Not much worse than what it already is."
Boba tuned them out, instead thinking of Cenry. He grunted as his side throbbed violently.
She was going to be pissed at him but he couldn't stop this...he doubted anyone could.
As soon as he got the details on the bounty, he should've turned it down but hell, The pay was damn good. Would have set her up with a shiny new shop and all the parts she needed to make even more mites...if she wanted to. He was glad that Din talked some sense into him, pushing him to go back to her.
That was the best week of his life...the time he spent with her.
Cenry Vessrah, best damn mechanic indeed.
He tried to think of her face...how she lit up when she saw the Slave-1 for the first time. She had been ecstatic to even touch the ship. His fearless mesh'la. She walked into his life so nonchalantly and completely flipped it on its head with how bright and cheerful she was even with all her scars. She took it all in stride. Her cybernetic arm and eye just becoming second nature to her. He had been in awe of her from the start...he knew that now. How someone could be so broken and torn apart and still be so full of life.
Damn that woman. Only one week and she had him eating out of her palm and he had enjoyed every minute of it. It had felt normal just being there with her, talking and laughing. Gods, he laughed much more in that week then he ever had...not since he was a boy. His chest twinged at the sadness of the thought. He didn't know what would've been different had his father lived...would he still have crossed paths with her? His chest ached again. That was a thought he didn't even want to entertain.
He had been so relaxed around her. That had been a strange new feeling. Not having to constantly look over his shoulder.
Since becoming a bounty hunter, he had always had to watch his back. He couldn't let his guard slip, not once. Too many targets on his back.
Cenry changed that...she had found every single weak spot in his armor and tore them open.
He tried to move and gasped when white hot agony tore through him. Shit. This was very bad.
"Don't move. It could make the puncture worse."
"Worse?" He snorted. What was worse than bleeding to death?
"Three bandits at ten o'clock!" Din's voice echoed around them. Fennec turned and fired three shots in succession, downing each one as they were running at her.
She shook her head, "These guys are idiots."
Boba had to...do something...anything. This was bad. He looked down at the blood pooling between Shand's fingers and he stilled. He wasn't angry at this. He was strangely calm. He had only one real regret.
Cenry...this was not what he wanted. He wanted to go back to her, to pick her up and entwine his body with hers in her bed.
In their bed. The last four months, he had replayed that night and that morning over and over again in his mind but it slowly changed into something else.
He had started to let himself hope...to dream something just for himself.
He started to secretly dream of a future...a future with her. Dreamed of her stomach round and heavily pregnant with his child...their child. The first time he had had that thought...he had been torn in two by it. It was selfish of himself to want that but this was Cenry. His Cenry. His mesh'la...the woman who inadvertently taught him to have hopes and wants for himself. To dream for himself. And now it was fading like the light from the sky as the sun set. Shattering like asteroids from a seismic charge.
He knew now that there was was only one way to set things right between them. He swore softly but it was all he had...all he could give her now.
Forgive me, mesh'la.
His breathing was starting to become ragged and Fennec shuddered with pain for the man. He had saved her life but now...she couldn't do a damn thing and it made her burn with anger at herself. She was failing to repay her life debt.
A shaky hand came up to land on her hand and she looked down, grimacing at how pale he was.
"Shit, Fett? Hold on okay? Din's getting the ship."
"Need a recorder...now."
"What?"
"Recorder. Please?"
The 'please' threw her and she studied his eyes, he nodded, patting her hand softly. She understood then what he was really asking her. She nodded grimly, setting her gun down and patting her pockets down until she felt the small device in one and pulled it out.
The blood-soaked hand gripped hers over the recorder and he chuckled softly before it dissolved into a rattling cough. "You no longer owe me Fennec. I release you from your debt."
She nodded suddenly numb. She pressed a few buttons and held the recorder up to his mouth, before nodding again.
"Well shit...not how I wanted this to go, Cen..."

Music blared loudly but Cenry's mind was wandering, swirling with wild thoughts. It had been nearly four months and he hadn't returned yet. She knew that it could take a long time for hunters to locate and take down their bounties...but this was Boba Fett. Not to mention he had Din and Fennec Shand with him. It shouldn't have taken this long...
An alarm went off then and she frowned as she looked up to her living quarters.
She sighed heavily, her shoulders dropping uneasily as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
God she missed him...so damn much.
Sure she missed Din but Boba...that man had changed things...had changed her. He walked in with that green and red armor and she hadn't stood a chance.
And it had all started with that ship of his.
Slave-1.
It had been a common ground for them and she could tell that from his reaction that not many people were as happy to see his ship like she was. She shrugged at that thought. He was one of the most dangerous bounty hunter's still alive. He was a legend. Of course people would be terrified to see that ship but to her...it was a lifeline back to her childhood...to her gramps and those blueprints. That ship was an absolute gem, a once in a lifetime ship to get her hands on and he let her, albeit tentatively. He even accepted her mites scrambling all over and scanning bits and pieces here and there.
And Bit...oh sweet little Bit absolutely helped them both when he tripped her into his lap. He had felt so solid and when he lifted her up and over the seat, she had been slightly stunned by his strength.
Then the quickforge exploded and he called her beautiful.
'Mesh'la.'
That led him to staying a few days and that was when she really got to know him. He had a sharp mind due to his profession and she had enjoyed their talks immensely. And the discussions ranged from her mites and her process for turning scans into working blueprints and he didn't get bored, just listened intently as her hands moved animatedly as she spoke. He asked a lot of good questions...some that led her to creating a few new programs for her mites.
And then she spent time listening to him as he opened up about his life. He talked about his father who had been a bounty hunter and taught him most of what he knew...Jango Fett. A Mandolorian who had been just as notorious in his day. The way he lit up talking about his childhood on Kamino had made her smile. But the sorrow that quickly replaced it had made her heart ache for him.
Having someone so important ripped away at such a young age had led him down a path of such bitter rage and vengeance. It had kept him going even when the odds were stacked against him...as they had been with the Sarlaccs.
She had lost both her mother and father, but her grandparents had given her a happy childhood and it hurt her deeply that that scarred, handsome, intelligent, grumpy man had had to suffer so much all his life.
The alarm went off again and her hands shook.
'Yeah, I know your there. Thanks for reminding me.'
Ferrik. This was a hard thing to do...this waiting for him to walk back through those doors, lift her into his arms and kiss her senseless.
She smiled. That had been the best week of her life so far capped off by an amazing night and morning wrapped in his arms. He had been an intense lover who always made sure that her pleasure came first. His hands and lips had left trails of fire along her skin and instead of turning away at her cybernetics, accepted them...accepted her scars just as she accepted his.
She blushed as she remembered the shower, how they had been so open with each other. Her pulse jumped.
God, she had never expected for him to bring out such a deviant side in her, but when he leveled that hot gaze at her, she had felt so freed. He had never made her feel uncomfortable. Most of their encounters it had seemed like he just handed her control and she greedily took it. She had even made him beg...she had made Boba Fett beg for her touch. If that hadn't made her feel so powerful...so sexy, she didn't know what else would.
Cenry hadn't wanted him to leave but she knew he would. It was his profession, coming and going. So she would wait, albeit impatiently but she would because that was a man that was worth waiting for.
The alarm went off again and she groaned, throwing her spanner across the room.
"Bastasi, yes I know! Fucking alarm!"
She was stalling, she knew that...but that alarm scared the hell out of her.
What it represented...what it could represent...was frightening.
Bit chirped and bobbed, waving a leg at her.
"Yes Bit, I'm just a little frustrated. I'm sorry."
A whistle and beep was his reply and she giggled.
"Oh hush. Its a scary thought you know. There are too many sharp things down here."
She squared her shoulders and headed towards the stairs leading to her living quarters.
"Well time to face the music huh?"
Bit whistled loudly.
"Hey, that's enough of that, thank you."
She took the stairs slowly, mumbling under her breath about nosy bots and bounty hunters being too damn late. She was dragging this out for as long as she could. Her stomach flipped.
Her door slid open with a rush of air and she swallowed hard, taking even, measured steps towards the fresher.
When she stopped in front of it, she held a shaky hand up to the door.
What would this mean for her...for Boba?
Cenry pressed the button, opening the door and she stepped inside just as the alarm sounded again. She rolled her eyes and reached for the device sitting on the sink and there it was...a bright green flashing light and her heart dropped into her stomach.
"Bastasi."
The sound of a bell chiming caught her ear and she gripped the device tightly, her frown spreading out into a bright, wide grin.
Was that him? Was he finally back?
She rushed out of the door, nearly running into the door as she slipped through it halfway open. She descended the stairs two at a time, breaking into a run as soon as her feet hit the floor.
She ducked through her shop door and looking up she laughed, launching herself at the man.
"Din!"
He shifted from foot to foot as he hugged her tightly.
She punched his arm, "About damn time you guys get back!"
Cenry looked behind him, noticing a small woman in red and black with dark hair standing behind him. She turned a confused gaze towards him. "Where's Boba?"
Din touched her shoulder gently and she recoiled violently, her face flooding with pain instantly as her insides flooded with ice.
"No."
"Cen."
Tears flowed down her cheeks and she was breathing heavily, starting to hyperventilate. "NO! I refuse. If this is all some cruel trick for him to prove how much I missed him then I'm going to..."
The woman stepped forward, her own eyes filled with pain and held something out to her.
"Its not a trick. Here."
His voice echoed through her mind, 'You'll see me around, mesh'la.'
'Boba...'
Cenry's hands shook viscously as the recorder was placed in her cybernetic hand and it felt like the earth dropped out from underneath her and she swayed, tipping to one side and she collapsed to the ground, unconscious. Two devices skidding across the floor to rest against Shand's foot.
Din rushed forward in shock, lifting her up into his arms.
Shand gasped at the flashing green light picking it up with a curse.
"That absolute idiot. He left her...like this?"
Din shook his head, swearing under his breath. "Like what?"
Do you even know what this is, Mando?"
He shook his head.
She snorted, "Of course not. This is a pregnancy tester. Green means positive."
"What? But they had only...it was only that night and the next morning."
Fennec snorted, lifting the flashing light up. "Well, apparently that was enough of a timeframe to get her pregnant."
"He was an unaltered clone, Shand. I'm not even sure he knew if he could have kids or not. And I'm sure that if he had known, he wouldn't have left."
He looked down at the woman in his arms and his heart throbbed with pain for her. Things had went so kriffing wrong and now she was paying the price for it in more ways than one. She was pregnant...with Fett's kid and Fett...
Dank ferrik, this was a mess.
Din squared his shoulders, walking into the other room with her. His mind was made up.
Cenry was like a sister to him and he would be there for her...support her through this...help her raise the child.
The code demanded it and his own heart demanded it too.
He owed this to her and to Fett.
This is the way.
