A/N Thanks for all the comments on this fiction so far. It’s much more fun writing this story when I know others are enjoying too. So, on with the story…
@ @ Disclaimer: I do not own The Covenant and make no money from the writing of this fiction. Chapter Twelve @ After detention, Reid and Madison had dinner together and then Reid took off on a ‘date’. Whoever this girl was that wrote their detention essays really did deserve a night out. Madison did have a chance to read it over before handing it in to Mr. Abrams and found it was quite good. Though the paper was about wanting to be a famous fashion designer in New York, which Madi had no interest in doing, it did get her thinking about what she should do with her life. She was already a Junior in high school and so the time was coming when she would have to decide on what to major in. While she walked back to her dorm room, she was in deep thought about her future. What exactly were her interests? She always seemed to hit a brick wall when it came to figuring herself out. When she reached the door of her room, Tyler Simms opened it as if he lived there, looking disgruntled. “Where have you been all evening?” he asked, miffed. “You knew I had detention,” Madison said, sweeping by him. “Then we went to dinner.” “I was going to take you to dinner,” Tyler pouted. She turned to him and wrapped her arms about his neck, kissing him. “I’m sorry, you never said anything about tonight.” He shrugged, “I know. I just thought you’d come back to your room after detention. Did Reid behave?” “No,” she laughed. “He’s Reid.” “You want to come out with me? You can watch me eat.” “Tempting,” she replied, “but I’m kind of tired tonight - after last night and today, and I never got to sleep in. But, guess what?” “What?” “I went without my pills last night and… no nightmares!” “Awesome,” he grinned, hugging her tighter. “You think you are ready to try going without your daytime meds tomorrow?” “I’m scared, but yeah, I’m going to give it a try.” “We’ll be there for you, you know.” “I know.” She kissed him again and then left his arms to undress for bed. She stood at her dresser, pulling off her shirt and pants and digging for a nightshirt. Then she felt warm hands wrap around her from behind as Tyler took the opportunity to touch her while she was standing in only her panties. “Hmmm… Tyler,” she purred, as his lips kissed her neck and shoulder while his hands roamed over her stomach and up to cup her bare breasts. “You can’t pull off your clothes like that without consequences,” he whispered in her ear. “Still too tired?” “Maybe not,” she replied, arching into his hands and moving her backside against his erection. Two guys in one day? What was she turning into? An hour later, they were lying on her bed, sated. Tyler was caressing her back softly with the tips of his fingers. Madison began thinking of the future again. “Tyler, I can’t figure out what I want to do with my life.” “What do you mean?” “For a career. I need to figure out what I’m going to do for a living.” Tyler laughed softly. “Why? Madison, you don’t need to ‘make a living’. We’ll take care of you.” Madison turned her head on the pillow to look in his eyes and she laughed. “Right, like some sort of mistress? Come on, Tyler, I’m not going to be paid for having sex with you four. That’s just… wrong. I want to accomplish something in my life.” “You will. You’ll get married and raise children. What’s more important than that? I mean, you can do volunteer work if you want - like charities and fundraisers.” Madison pushed herself to a sitting position, her brow wrinkling. “Wow, I didn’t realize what a chauvinist you are.” “Chauvinist? No, I just know who I am and I know who you are. None of the old families are going to approve of you stressing yourself out with a career. Our women don’t do that. None of our mothers run off to jobs.” “Maybe they don’t have to because they married rich men. I’ve inherited some money, but it’s not going to last forever. And maybe I’d enjoy a career. Besides, you said your mom went to Harvard, so maybe she had other ambitions at one time.” Tyler shrugged. “Nothing wrong with being educated. It doesn’t mean someone has to take on the world. Besides, it’s a moot point. You’re one of us and you need to stay in Ipswich. We need you, Madi.” “So you all get to run off to Harvard while I wither away here?” “Of course not,” he laughed. “You’ll come with us.” “I can’t get into Harvard with my grades.” “You think Reid has the grades? It doesn’t matter. The generations of our families have contributed much to Harvard. All of us will get in because we are well connected. We can get you in too.” “That feels like cheating.” “Why? You still have to do the work while you’re there.” Madison shrugged. She wasn’t sure she liked her life all decided for her like this. Of course she realized that she needed them as much as they needed her, but she still didn’t want to be some pampered society lady, did she? She didn’t even know if she wanted that - how pathetic she felt. Tyler could see the conflicting emotions she was experiencing. “Madi, you don’t have to decide everything tonight. Just relax and enjoy your life. It will be a good one - I promise.” He just didn’t get it, did he? He couldn’t understand from her point of view. But then maybe she had to get real too. She was a frigging witch, after all. And she had to keep herself from going insane, which meant being with the Sons. Tyler sat up and hugged her. “Everything will be all right.” Madi nodded against his shoulder. “I’m going to get something to eat. I’m starved. You want me to bring you anything?” he asked. “No, I think I’ll just get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a big day for me,” she replied, nervous about what her day would be like as she tried to discover what powers she had. “O.K.” He kissed her again before leaving. OOOOO Madison tossed and turned, trying to clear her mind of her conversation with Tyler. How had her life changed so quickly? It felt like she was no longer in control. It was no use trying to sleep yet. She got up and went to the window, sighing in frustration. It seem rather quiet out there for a Saturday night. The brightest light was coming from the pool house, which seemed to shimmer with movement. The movement fascinated Madi and she felt an impulse to take a walk over there. She slipped on some pajama pants and a shirt and left the dorm, realizing she should have taken her jacket as well when the cold air hit her face outside. But she didn’t want to bother with going back for it, so she continued down the path toward the pool house, fascinated with the shadows of the waves shimmering through the windows. She was slightly surprised that the door was unlocked at this time of night. She made her way to the edge of the pool and sat down, pulling up the legs of her pajama pants and putting her feet in the water. The water felt warm and inviting as she wiggled her toes. It would be nice to go for a swim, but she felt too lazy to go to her locker and change. On a whim, she slipped into the pool with her nightclothes on, enjoying the watery warmth as it hugged her. She floated on her back, watching the patterns the water caused on the ceiling and it lulled her into a meditative state. OOOOO Caleb had just finished redressing in the locker room after doing some laps in the pool. Not the usual way he spent his Saturday nights, but he needed to do something with all the extra energy he had - thanks to Madison. He left the locker room and proceeded to walk past the pool when he noticed someone was floating, lifeless, on the surface. Madison! Jumping in, Caleb pushed off the edge with his legs and made a grab for her, fearing the worst. But then her arms and legs came to life, kicking and hitting, while she screamed. “Madi, stop, it’s me,” Caleb yelled through the commotion, taking her blows. He finally let her go and she swam to the edge of the pool before looking back at him and recognizing him. “Caleb? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” “I thought you had drowned,” he explained. “You were just floating there with your clothes on and your eyes open, completely still.” “Drowned? Witches can’t drown. Haven’t you read your history books? I just wanted to go for a swim because I couldn’t sleep.” “In your clothes?” he smiled. “I was feeling a bit… eccentric,” she blushed. Her back was pressed against the wall of the pool and she was trying to calm her heart after that scare, but it only sped up as she looked at the sexy Son of Ipswich staring back at her. There was a bit of awkward silence before she said, “So, are you able to stand being around me now? Is it easier?” Caleb waded closer to her, his eyes dropping to her breasts under the wet T-shirt for a moment. When they returned to her face, they were hungry. “It’s much easier,” he said, his voice low and sexy. “That’s not what I meant,” she replied, swallowing her growing lust for the predatory gleam in his dark eyes. “Is it easier to resist me now?” Caleb had now moved right in front of her and placed his hands on the edge of pool on either side of her head, boxing her in. “Maybe it’s not about need right now. Maybe it’s about want. Why would I want to resist you?” Because you have a girlfriend. Madison couldn’t see the distinction much from her end. She both needed and wanted him - her body already reacting to his closeness. She briefly thought about the fact that this would be the third Son today and she laughed. “What’s so funny?” Caleb grinned, his lips whisking over hers and his body pressing flush against hers, pinning her to the wall of the pool. She shook her head slightly. “It’s just been a… crazy day.” “Should I ask?” “Probably not.” “All right then,” his smile widened. Caleb reached down and took her legs, wrapping them around his hips as he ground into her with their clothing on. “Let me fuck you, Madi,” Caleb groaned, his eyes blackening as the tendrils of her magic wrapped around him, plugging in to every pore on his body. “Yes,” Madison whispered against his wet lips before wrapping herself more tightly around him and kissing him deeply. Their tongues tangled as their hands began to pull off their wet clothing, desperate for the feel of skin upon skin and the raw pulsing magic between them. Sex with Tyler and Reid was very pleasurable, but this ascended sex was something else all together. It was magic in itself. Madison wondered what it would be like when they were all ascended. How could she even think of living anywhere else but near them? Their articles of clothing were soon off and the two of them clung together, reveling in the sensation of one another as they moved and slid their bodies together in the warm water, kissing and touching every part. When Caleb pulled her hips up and then down onto his erection, Madison gasped with the connection, both physical and magical. She felt as if she was losing her mind in a sea of bliss and she yelled, “Yes, Caleb, fuck me!” Her words spurred him on more and he moved her onto him harder and faster, the water was churning and spinning in a whirlpool as their magic grew together. Madison moaned and groaned with the sensations he was causing, noticing that they were starting to float out of the pool and toward the sparkling ceiling she had been fascinated with earlier. But she wasn’t scared this time. She knew Caleb wouldn’t let her fall. When they reached the ceiling, her back was against it and Caleb ground into her harder, both their eyes black as night. Outside the pool house, a pair of eyes watched them through the window, amused and interested. So Caleb was cheating on Sarah? Guess the Golden Boy wasn’t so golden after all. But what was with the aerial sex? That never happened to him when he fucked some chick. Why wasn’t the bitch freaking out? Did Caleb break his precious little Covenant again and tell another girl? He peered up at her face when Caleb had her against the ceiling. What was that? For a second she had turned her face his way and he could have sworn her eyes were black! “No fucking way,” he said to himself. “No. Fucking. Way.” He focused more carefully on them and realized that the power wasn’t all Caleb’s - it was hers too. “They have a witch. Where the fuck were they hiding her the last time I was here?” True witches were extremely rare these days, their old lines persecuted into extinction. He had done his homework on the old days, back when he first found out what he was, and then lately, since Caleb told him taking more power would not lead to a longer life. He knew how valuable a witch could be to a warlock, especially a warlock like him - one that liked to use a lot. And those spoiled fucks had one. She must be new the area because he would have sensed her for sure if she had been here back in September. He sneered at them fucking on the ceiling. Caleb didn’t deserve her. He itched to go in there and take her, take her far away from them where they would never find her again. But he knew it would be a foolish impulse at the moment because he had no idea what her powers could do when combined with Caleb’s. And he couldn’t use his powers anywhere near Ipswich or Caleb would instantly know he was back in town. Now that Caleb had ascended there would be no more fooling him into believing it was one of his brothers doing the using. Caleb would be able to tell who. He could see magical signatures now. No, this would have to have to be planned out carefully. He backed away from the pool house and slunk back into the shadows. OOOOO The next morning, Caleb arrived after the other four had eaten breakfast and they piled into Tyler’s Hummer. Madison felt nervous about the day ahead, wondering if she would be a totally lame witch that couldn’t do anything, or if she would just hallucinate all day with her horrible visions of death. She hadn’t had any meds since yesterday morning. She sat between Pogue and Caleb in the back seat, nervous, as they drove out onto some back roads deeper into the forest. Pogue put his hand on her knee, caressing her. “Relax,” he said. “Maybe I should do this alone, so I don’t embarrass myself in front of you guys,” she chuckled. “Embarrass yourself?” Caleb laughed. He put his arm around her shoulders. “We want to help you, Madi.” He kissed her softly. Pogue picked up her legs and put them on his lap, slipping her shoes off and massaging her feet. “Just relax,” he repeated. Tyler looked in his rear view mirror at the three of them. “Hey, no molesting my witch in the back seat.” “Yeah, hand her up to the front seat,” Reid laughed. “Your witch?” Pogue grinned. “I don’t think so, buddy.” Tyler pulled the car over to the side of the road. “I think this is far enough,” he announced. “Everyone out.” Caleb, Pogue and Madison laughed. “Party pooper,” she said, sticking out her tongue. When they all stood outside in a small group, Tyler said, “Let’s focus on Madison’s power and not getting in her pants, all right?” “Don’t be so grumpy, Baby Boy,” Reid said. “That’s fine, Tyler,” Caleb said. “You’re probably right.” “So, what exactly do you expect me to do?” Madison asked, unsure. Reid grabbed her hand and began pulling her into the woods as the others followed. “First we need to get off of the road and into the trees for some privacy.” As they moved deeper into the woods, Madison could feel a change come over her. Something was stirring deep within and the air felt thick with energy. She wondered if it was the presence of the Sons, but somehow she knew it wasn’t. She had felt this before, that time she skipped her meds and went through the woods to Marish House, that time she flew. The boys weren’t with her that time. Madison looked up at the tall trees around her, filtering the sunlight through their leaves and branches. She let her gaze soften and she began to observe something she had never noticed before. The trees were giving off their own energy field and she could now see it! How could she have missed this before? “Stop,” she said, halting as the boys stopped and waited around her. She walked up to a tree and began moving her hand a few feet in front of it. The energy field of the tree was playing with her own energy and reacting to it. “What is it, Madi?” Pogue asked. But Caleb could see it. Caleb was aware of the energy of all living things since he had ascended and he watched as Madi’s power connected with the trees. “It’s the trees, Pogue,” Caleb answered. “They answer to her power. They connect with it - or maybe she connects with theirs.” “Or maybe both,” Reid said. “Didn’t you say a witch’s magic was more elemental? Connected with nature and all that?” “Yeah, that’s what the books say,” Caleb replied, fascinated by the energy play Madison was experiencing with the tree. He looked up at the other trees around them and they were all swaying, their energies trying to reach out to Madison. It was like they were excited she was here. “Incredible,” Caleb muttered. “Looks like the trees love you, Madi.” “Really?” she asked. “Come here and stand in the middle of this bunch,” Caleb instructed. She did so and then he said, “Focus, Madi. Ask them to move their branches for you. Concentrate on it.” She sighed and tried to think of branches moving. “Concentrate harder,” Caleb said. Suddenly the branches of the trees began to shake and tremble working up to wild movements. Squirrels and birds jumped out of their nests and fled around them. Madison smiled. “Awesome,” she said. She actually made something move! But what was Caleb saying? She needed to be around trees? “Try some other elements,” Tyler suggested, excited. “How about the wind?” “Think of huge gusts of wind coming down from the sky,” Pogue instructed. “O.K.” Madison closed her eyes and imagined a very windy day. Suddenly a breeze blew her hair up and next a very big gust came through the trees, blowing more leaves off of their branches. “Wow. The animals are going to hate me,” she laughed. This was actually quite fun. “Earth. Try earth,” Pogue said. Madison focused on the ground and thought about a hole. She had to jump back as unseen forces pulled a large amount of soil up and into a pile, leaving a good sized pit. Pogue floated some dead wood into her pit. “Now fire, Madi. Make a fire.” Madi concentrated on fire starting in the pit, and gasped in surprise when flames sprung up. “Oh, my God. I don’t believe all this!” She laughed. “This is so cool. But can I only do all this in the woods?” Caleb shook his head. “I don’t know. But from what I can see around you, you draw strength from the trees. Maybe it will last when you leave the woods, but you may need to recharge yourself sometimes. The days you skipped your meds in the past, did anything like this happen?” “No, just the visions. But I lived in the city and there wasn’t all this nature around me.” “Ah, now we know why all the wicked old witches lived the woods in the past,” Reid teased. “Shut up,” Madi laughed. “Marish House is in the woods too, if you think about it,” Caleb added. “Witches would want to be close to nature.” “Didn’t you say you flew before? The day you went through the woods to Marish House?” Tyler asked, reminding her. “Try it now, Madi.” “How?” “Focus on where you want to go,” Tyler replied. He looked about and pointed. “Like up in that tree, on that big branch.” “O.K., but you come too. If I lose my focus and fall…” “I’ll catch you, baby,” Tyler assured her, stepping behind her. She sighed and looked at the branch up high. God this was crazy! She began to imagine herself moving off the ground and up toward the tree branch. She screamed slightly when her feet left the ground, waving her arms about and losing her focus. Tyler wrapped his arms about her, floating them in the air. “I got you. Try again. Tell me when you feel confident and I’ll let go.” Reid flew up to the branch and began to call her over like a puppy. “Here, Madi, here girl. Come on, Madi,” he waved his arms. “Reid, cut that shit out. Let her focus,” Pogue called up. Madison and Tyler hovered about ten feet away from the branch. She looked at Reid, concentrating on flying to him. When she felt the pull of her own magic, she said, “Let go, Tyler.” Then she was flying on her own. She flew to Reid who now held her in a congratulatory hug. “Yes!” he cheered. “I did it!” But when she looked down, she began to wobble. “Oh, no.” “Focus, Madi,” Tyler said, hovering a few feet away. “You have to remember that you are still flying. Think about the air carrying you instead of me or Reid. Pretend it has arms. Tell Reid when to let go.” “O.K., I think I’m ready.” Reid let go and Madison grinned when she realized she wasn’t falling. She thought about the trees and their energy, holding her like a child, protecting her. Then she imagined herself slowly descending and the energy obeyed her, bringing her safely to the ground again. She cheered, hugging Pogue and Caleb. “I did it! Oh my God, I can fly!” Then she backed away from them, looking over their shoulders, and said, “Who are they?” The Sons turned their heads to look in the same direction. “Who?” Caleb asked. “Those people… those people in the hooded robes holding torches,” she replied, looking spooked. “There’s no one there, Madi.” “It must be a vision then,” she replied, disappointed that her magic high was getting doused. This is what she feared, her visions. “Stay with it, Madison,” Pogue encouraged. “Don’t be afraid of them. Just stay with it and tell us what you see. They might be trying to tell you something.” “They are walking in a line, in that direction,” she pointed. “Should we follow?” “Yeah, why not,” Caleb replied. “Let’s see what happens.” “I’m warning you now, my visions are rarely anything positive.” “We can handle it. Lead on. We’ll follow.” OOOOOO A/N Dun Dun Dun - The plot thickens. As promised, some Pogue time will coming up in the next chapter. Hope you enjoyed this.
