I'm currently using my parents' internet connection, but I don't know
how often I'll be able to update over the next days. I hope that it
will be fixed soon, since I hate to keep you waiting. But for now:
Enjoy the new chapter.
Chapter 12 – Lu's game
He could feel waves of
fear and rage crash through his body. These bastards had his
Balthazar and his child. Who did those fuckers think, that they were?
Yet there was something strange about the message, since he could not
detect a demonic aura around it. Shrugging those thoughts off, he
once again read the words.
If you want to see
your bitch again, bring hundred thousand
dollars to the abandoned railway station.
If you alert the
police or try to trick us, he dies.
You have time until
tonight, 6 o'clock.
Shit.
There were only two hours left and he would need at least half an
hour to get to the railway station. Without realizing it, John
growled at the message. If anything happened to his half-breed shit,
there would be hell to pay. He had been prepared to fight Lu and
every half-breed, that would try to hurt Bally, but obviously he was
up against humans as demons would never demand ransom.
There
was no way, that he would manage to get the money in time without a
little help. Looking up he mentally called to Chas, but couldn't
detect him anywhere in the ether. Where were those fucking angels,
when he needed them for once? Usually they were hanging around,
offering him their wonderfully useless advice.
“Chas. Get your angelic ass
down here, goddammit.”
Before
he could alert his neighbors with more screaming, the rushing of
wings could be heard and his former apprentice stood in front of him.
Without much preamble Chas grabbed John and dragged him out of the
hallway and into his flat.

What
the hell has he done now, Chas wondered since John looked miserable
and upset. He began to worry, when he couldn't spot Balthazar
anywhere around the flat. Since he hadn't seen the message the
kidnappers had left on the door, Chas had no idea what was going on.
“John, why are you yelling for
me?”
“Balthazar was kidnapped and I
need your help. I have no idea how many of them are there, but I need
some back-up. I think the bastards, who kidnapped Balthazar are
human. And if I get my hands on them, I'm gonna...”
“Calm down, John. How would
humans be able to overpower Balthazar? They shouldn't be a match for
his powers.”
“I'm not sure, but as far as
he told me, Lu occasionally takes his powers away.”
Mmh.
If Lucifer plays with Balthazar's powers, he likely is involved in
this foul play. At least John had calmed down a bit. There is no
saying, what he would do, when he is angry. Then it hit Chas. Lucifer
wanted John to be out of control and have him do something completely
stupid. He wasn't supposed to help John anymore, but there was no way
he'd abandon his former hero and friend in this situation. Now that
he was finally taking real responsibility for his child and
Balthazar.
“John, I can't help you in
this. I was told not to interfere.”
Chas
hadn't even finished his sentence, when John threw him up against the
wall and started yelling at him. “You're a fucking angel,
goddammit. You're supposed to help humanity.” He was shaking
Chas now, an uncharacteristic look of
despair spread over his features. “I can't loose them.”
“I wasn't finished, John. I
can't help you, but I can watch your back. I think Lucifer is
somewhat involved in that.”
John
looked relieved but also determined, when he searched his apartment
for the shotgun, he had stored away long ago. Finally finding it, he
strode out of his apartment, Chas following behind him. The angel
only hoped, that all would go well, because if something bad happened
to Balthazar, he didn't think that he would be able to stop John from
severely hurting the kidnappers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The
demon screamed as Lucifer's claws ripped him in half. The flames of
hell shot higher as the devil's anger sparked. The angel was about to
thwart his plan once again. John was
supposed to kill the kidnappers as soon as he saw them kill Balthazar
and condemn himself to hell. But now the angel would stop him from
doing that, like he had stopped him from aborting the child.
He
couldn't allow that. Anger radiating off him in waves, Lucifer called
two reliable half-breeds to his throne. The two of them cowered in
fear, not sure whether they would be ripped in half or Lucifer wanted
something from them.
“I want you to keep the angel
busy, when they arrive at the railway station. Keep him away from the
exorcist. If you fail...” Instead of
finishing his sentence, Lucifer grabbed himself another demon, who
had made the mistake of coming too close to his throne. Without much
preamble, he dragged his claws over his face, leaving a waste of
blood and ripped tissue behind. “Go.”
Ellie
and the other half-breed scrambled off. It was a pity, that she had
to cause John to fall. It had been nice to play with the exorcist and
he was pretty for a human being. Maybe if she was lucky and
successful with her mission, Lucifer would
let her play with John, when he was finished. And failure...well, she
shuddered to think about it.
John
didn't like the way the railway station looked, when they arrived. It
was too fucking quiet. Chas was following behind him as he walked
toward the entry, his psychic abilities frantically searching for
Balthazar. There he was. But his presence in the ether was extremely
weak. He had to be hurt. John pushed down the feelings of dread, that
the possibility of an injured Balthazar awoke in his gut.
Slowly
going in the direction, his psychic sensors told him to, John
strained his ears, trying to hear voices or other indications that
the kidnappers where there. Images of the way Balthazar had looked,
when he found him in front of his door, swirling in his mind,
heightening his fear and his anger. If they had done something to his
demon or his child, he would kill them.
Finally
hearing some voices, John slowed his pace even more. They were coming
from an open gate at the end of the hall, Chas and himself were
currently crossing. He wasn't able to make out the words they spoke,
but he was able to identify three voices. That definitely was good
news. If Balthazar and Chas would help him a little, those three
bastards shouldn't prove too much of a problem. But since Lucifer was
likely helping them, he needed to be careful.
Arriving
at the gate, John took a peek inside, that made his insides freeze
with fear and boil in rage. Balthazar was lying on the ground,
moaning in pain. His face was once again beaten and bloodied as he
huddled himself into a protective ball. John could hear his pitiful
whimpers of pain, that constricted his heart.
He
was still waiting for a good moment to attack them without placing
Balthazar in further danger, but then one of them kicked his
half-breed in the stomach. Before he could think about it, John was
already storming towards them, his protective instincts in full
force. There were no coherent thoughts left in his mind as he
frantically attacked the kidnappers.
Chas
had tried to hold him back and since that failed had attempted to
follow him, when he was attacked by Ellie and the other demon. They
both snarled at him and pounced on him, trying to claw at his face
and throat. Chas fought them as best as he could, trying to throw
them off his body and scorching them with his sacred hands. Wailing
in pain, the first demon went up in flames and vanished, but Ellie
was still trying her best to fight him off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile
John was still madly fighting the three kidnappers. They were strong
men, who were used to fighting, but they were no match for John's
uncontrollable rage. And John wasn't exactly weak either since
holding down demons during exorcisms required strength too.
The
first of them had already run off in fear, his face bloodied. The
second one had been knocked unconscious by
the bud of John's riffle. But after using it as a blunt weapon, John
had thrown the gun away and was now choking the man, who had kicked
Balthazar in the stomach.
He
could have just shot him, but this was far to personal. The bastard
had dared to hurt his half-breed lover and endangered his child,
although John could sense, that the baby was fine. He didn't deserve
to live.
Lucifer
was clapping his hands in pleasure. John was slowly choking the life
out of the kidnapper and it wouldn't be long until his soul would
once again belong to hell.
