(The Gro’thon-ious Ship)
“Where are we going?” Ta’noj growled in
annoyance. He trudged along behind his brothers as they made their way deep
into the bowels of the ship. His trust level was low with everyone and right
now that included his siblings. Shra’van didn’t bother to respond to his
obviously unnerved sibling as they entered another elevator. They were heading
into parts of the ship Ta’noj had never seen before. Shra'van and his brothers
took several elevators and passed by numerous security check points as they
continued down to each new level. Ta’noj became even more agitated, and he
barked angrily after seeing several more guards standing near a door. “I refuse
to go any farther until you tell me what the fuck is going on and where we are
going!” Ta’noj looked at Shra’van with irrational anger before pulling out a
knife. Ga’gan growled at him.
“You will not have to go any farther” he
sighed with annoyance. “We are here, though I am becoming tired of my brothers
pulling weapons on me. Do it again and I will beat you!” Shra’van punched in a
series of numbers on a panel and the large doors opened.
Ta’noj stared in amazement as several
Yautjas working the room turned at their entrance. “Wait until you see what
this vessel is equipped with,” Wa’jeeh trilled softly as they walked inside.
“The Jafren told me to build this ship to
their specifications several years ago. I did not understand why, until I found
out you might still be alive,” Shra’van explained. “It is equipped with all of
the current Jafren technology… or at least, what they wanted you to have.”
“You still speak with them?” Ta’noj
questioned in amazement as he touched the front of the ship.
“They do not speak with me, they just
leave information to upgrade our systems,” Shra’van explained. “I had my doubts
about even starting this project, but I remembered that Mother trusted them. If
by chance the elders on the planet choose death as your fate, this ship with
get you off of the planet within seconds. The speed of this vessel is greater
than any ship I have ever seen and it is over ten times the size of a family
ship. It is large enough to sustain a clan. I am also giving you several of my
eta’s to join you and some of my guards and their families. It will then be up
to you to continue improving everything and increasing the size of this glorious
vessel.”
“I have spoken with Na’lam, and she has
agreed to go with me,” Ga’gan nodded. “I will be your advisor.”
“I,” Ta’noj paused as he tried to
register what his brother was saying to him. He looked back at the ship as he
was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion. “Ga’gan, I cannot ask you to come with
me.” He turned to look at Shra’van. “You should not have done this. I cannot
run like a coward.”
“You cannot die either,” Shra’van
growled. “The fighting ends, Ta’noj. You will take this ship and leave with your
family if need be. It will be ready before we arrive on the planet.” Shra’van
turned to leave.
“Kavi’ta cannot go with me,” Ta’noj
turned to look at Shra’van. “It will just be Jasmine and I.”
“Do you care for one over the other?”
Ga’gan questioned as he crossed his arms. “That is not good. This is not our
way.”
“I care for them equally, but I made a
promise never to leave Jasmine, the way I did with all of you. Kavi’ta is close
to her family and it would hurt her greatly to be apart from them.” He shook
Shra’van’s shoulder. “Thank you.” Ta’noj watched Shra’van and Ga’gan walk away
before turning around to look at the ship.
Wa’jeeh shook Ta’noj’s shoulder softly.
“So Brother, what are you going to call your new clan?”
Ta’noj nodded as he considered the idea,
before touching the wall of one of the corridors. “It is large enough to be a
clan’s ship, and I can easily add to it.” He shook his head in disbelief as he
turned to look at his little brother.
“Yes, I will join you,” Wa'jeeh blurted,
and they both chuckled.
Em’mi left Jasmine alone in the large
room. She had showed her the observation rooms where she could look at the sky
and relax and how to call for food. Jasmine laid down and sighed. It was all so
overwhelming, she didn’t realize she hadn’t slept in over 24 hours and drifted
off into troubled sleep.
Shra’van groaned softly in Em’mi’s ear as
she readied the table for their evening meal. He held onto her hips and pulled
her back towards his groin. She smiled as she continued to set the table, but
stopped when he pushed her down on the table.
“Is this the position you wish for your
pups to see us in?” she giggled.
“They will learn sooner or later.” After
some teasing and with much hesitation, he reluctantly let her up.
“Shra’van, my mother does not wish to
meet Jasmine,” she turned to look at him. “She is old and set in her ways. I
think she misses your mother greatly and thinks of her as a replacement. She is
very firm on her decision.”
Shra’van clicked his mandibles as he
nodded. “She has every right, Em’mi. Besides, Jasmine is so curious about
Yautjas, I think she may have forgotten about your mother. Did you know she is
only twenty?”
Em’mi looked shocked and shook her head.
“I knew she was young, but not that young. What was your brother thinking?”
“Look at her,” he huffed. “Inquisitive,
like my mother with eyes like Kavi’ta. What do you think he was thinking? She
has been asleep for a while now.”
“Do not worry, Aa’hana will wake her.”
Jasmine woke up slowly. An unbearably
adorable little face was staring at her with unconcealed curiosity. She purred
softly when Jasmine smiled at her.
“Are you awake yet?” Aa’hana questioned.
Jasmine nodded and sat up. She smiled as she watched the miniature Yautja run
out of the room. Jasmine stretched and felt her stomach.
“Damn, did it get bigger?” she mumbled.
When she looked up, Aa’hana was walking in with a plate of food. “Thank
you!” Aa’hana watched her, but she
watched the fruit on her plate even more. Jasmine held it out to her and she
trilled softly before accepting it.
“Have you seen the play room?” she
questioned. Jasmine shook her head no. Aa’hana sighed before looking at her
again. “Have you seen any of the ship?”
"Some." They ate in silence for
a moment.
“If I show you, will you tell me about
Earth?”
“Don’t you already know about it?”
Jasmine questioned as she pushed her plate away. She stretched again.
“Yes, but grandmother is tired of my
questions. I will never hunt, so I will never be able to go.”
“Is it evening time?”
“Yes, we ate already, and I could not
sleep. I have thirteen brothers and sisters.”
“Oh my God,” Jasmine gasped. “Are you
serious?”
“I never lie,” she smiled. She started to
tell Jasmine their names.
“Wow, you have a good memory,” she smiled
at Aa’hana. Jasmine patted the spot next to her and Aa’hana moved closer. “I
will tell you about where I used to live.”
Shra’van woke up in the middle of the
night thinking his ship was under attack. It wasn’t the first time he had had
that dream. “Shit,” he mumbled as he got up. He slowly covered himself with a
cloth before walking out of his quarters. He understood now why his mother
would check on them at night. He used to be completely annoyed by it and tried
to change the security code to lock her out, but it never worked. When he
checked on Aa’hana she was not in her bed. He went to Jasmine’s room. He smiled
when he saw his daughter curled up against Jasmine’s body. Shra’van entered the
room and was about to pick up Aa’hana when Jasmine touched his hand. He quickly
looked at her. She shook her head.
“She’s ok,” she whispered. Jasmine smiled
at Shra’van before closing her eyes. He watched her rub Aa’hana’s hair before
falling back to sleep.
Ta’noj growled angrily as he opened his
door in response to the buzzing of the com. His look softened when he
recognized Shra'van. “Is Jasmine ok?” he walked into the dimly lit hall with
his brother.
“She is fine,” Shra’van nodded.
“Shra’van,” Ta’noj was confused. “Why did
you wake me? I was up half of the night with Kavi’ta.”
“How is it going?”
“After several mating sessions and much
arguing, I think she may be coming around,” Ta’noj grunted. “Maybe another
week. She is mainly upset that I did not get her permission. You do not mind if
Jasmine stays with you a while longer? Kavi’ta is in heat, and Jasmine would
have a hard time understanding.”
“That is what I came to talk to you
about,” Shra’van stammered. “Jasmine.” Ta’noj tilted his head to the side. He
had never seen his brother at a lost of words. He told Ta’noj about how Jasmine
had become protective of Aa’hana.
“I had my doubts when she first became
pregnant,” Ta’noj sighed. “Even now, she looks at us in such a curious manner.”
“I have noticed that,” Shra’van nodded as
he stared at Ta’noj. “If anything happens to you, who will be her mate?”
“I asked Su’ram,” Ta’noj began but
Shra’van cut him off with a laugh. “So you know how that conversation went,”
Ta'noj smiled.
“If anything happens to you, I wish to be
her mate,” Shra’van blurted. He waited for his brother's expected angry roar in
response to his statement. Since their mother's death, Ta’noj's temper had
become quicker than anyone he ever met. Surprisingly, Ta’noj just stared at
him.
“I remember how you used to treat
Mother,” Ta’noj said quietly. “You despised oomans. You used to tell me how you
couldn’t wait for your first hunt on her planet. You even wanted to learn
mother’s language so you could catch your prey easier.”
“…I’ve changed,” Shra’van defended
himself. “You know I have.”
“I know,” Ta’noj shook Shra’van’s
shoulder. “I should have asked you first. I cannot think of anyone who is more
protective of their family. It would be an honor.” Ta’noj walked back into his
quarters. “Shra’van.”
He turned around to look at his brother.
“Yes Ta’noj.”
“If you touch her without my permission
before something happens to me, I will kill you.”
“I know,” Shra’van chuckled.
Z’as-hil paced slowly, back and forth in
front of Kuja’s door. He buzzed her com constantly last night, but she wouldn’t
let him in. Some of Em’mi’s sisters passed him in the hall and giggled. Ad’vey
and Su’ram walked towards him and laughed openly. “I see nothing funny,” he
growled in annoyance.
“Calm down Z’as-hil,” Su’ram chuckled.
“It does not matter if you become my sister’s mate or not, you are considered
family.”
“I am?” he stopped pacing and stared at
them.
“Of course,” Ad’vey chuckled. “Our father
calls you son all the time. And our brothers consider you family. How could we
not. Your devotion to our sister has been proven many years ago.”
Kuja opened the door and growled at them.
“Stop giving this male hope of ever being my mate!” she barked at them.
“The door is open, Z’as-hil,” Su’ram
smiled. “You better run in before she closes the door.”
Z’as-hil quickly turned to look at Kuja.
He stared into her eyes and sighed. “I can not go inside unless she invites
me.” Z’as-hil noticed her look soften for a moment before she pushed past him
and her brothers.
“Did you see that? I think my persistence
is working.”
“You thought that fifty years ago,”
Tar’un laughed as he walked up to his brothers. He patted Z’as-hil’s shoulder.
“Come Brother, let us spar together.”
When Jasmine woke up, Aa’hana was sitting
on the side of her bed watching her. “Are you awake?” she questioned. “Mother
told me not to wake you. So if she asks,
can you tell her I didn’t wake you?”
Jasmine smiled and sat up. Aa’hana went
to the wall and opened one of the drawers. She took out a dress for Jasmine to
wear. “Thank you Aa’hana. Where is your father?”
“He went to go get my uncles so they can
fight.”
“Fight? Is something wrong?” Jasmine
walked over to the large bay windows and shook her head in astonishment at the
lovely view.
“Would you like to see the sparring
hall?” Aa’hana eyes lit up.
Jasmine laughed as she walked towards the
bathroom. “First, let me shower and get dressed.” Jasmine gasped at the size of
the bathroom. Although she had marveled at its beauty last night, she still
couldn’t get over the size of it. It was as large as her small shack in the
village. She moaned with pleasure when the water hit her back. It pulsated far
better here than the shower on the ship. She thought of Ta’noj and suddenly
felt a little sad. She had hoped he would check on her last night or wake her
up this morning. She missed sleeping with him.
Aa’hana insisted on helping Jasmine comb
her hair, but Jasmine knew she continued to be curious about her. When they
stepped outside of the quarters, two large, heavily armed Yautjas took their
places behind her. They were no larger than Ta’noj. Jasmine looked at them in
shock. “Father said they are to stay with you if you leave our quarters,”
Aa’hana said in a nonchalant tone. Jasmine nodded to them. They nodded back in
return. She realized that the gesture was one of the few things she understood
about their language. A nod was a sign of respect. Other than yes, no and
hello, Jasmine still didn’t understand the Yautja tongue.
“Where are we going Aa’hana?” Jasmine
questioned as she stopped walking to rest. She touched her stomach and sighed.
The pregnancy was starting to wear her down a bit.
“To watch my uncles,” she trilled.
Em’mi walked into Jasmine's room and
sighed. When she turned around, Kuja and Su’tara had walked in. “Where is
Jasmine?” Kuja looked at Em’mi.
“Aa’hana,” Su’tara trilled softly. “She
finally found someone to talk to death. Poor Jasmine.”
“Well, she has always been a roamer,”
Em’mi chuckled as she went to a panel on the wall. “Shra’van and I agreed to
fit her with a tracking device after losing her on the ship a few times.” Em’mi
sighed. After touching the screen several times, she found the location of
Jasmine and her daughter. “Is she trying to put the poor thing in shock?” She
turned to look at Kuja. “She took Jasmine to the sparring hall.”
“Shit,” Kuja mumbled as they rushed out
of the room. “If she thought Lo’kesh was big...”
“They are going to kill her for staring,”
Su’tara growled.
“Ta’noj will kill them first,” Kuja
sighed in frustration.
Jasmine looked up at the large doors.
“Aa’hana, are you sure it is ok to go inside?” Jasmine didn’t want to tell her
that she was getting tired. The little girl walked so fast Jasmine almost had
to jog. The guards, however, had no problem keeping up with them. Jasmine wiped
the perspiration from her brow.
“Yes, anyone can watch,” she smiled
before pushing the doors open. "Besides, this is my father's ship. I can
go almost anywhere." Jasmine gasped and her mouth remained open as she
watched well over a hundred Yautja males fighting fiercely with one another.
Some were watching along the sidelines and others were resting.
“Oh, it is still early and this is the
morning class,” Aa'hana explained.
“There's more?” Jasmine gasped. She stepped
aside as three males entered at the same time. They stared at her for a moment
before going about their business.
“This is small,” Aa’hana trilled as she
took Jasmine's hand. They walked over to the stadium seats. Jasmine noticed
some had stopped fighting to look at her. One nearby male approached her with
interest. The guards stood closer to Jasmine.
She looked up at him. “Damn,” she
mumbled. He was larger than Lo’kesh. “They do get bigger.” He roared angrily at
her.
Ta’noj chuckled as he pushed Ad’vey out
of the way. “That was a good fight.”
“Not good enough apparently,” Ad’vey
grunted as Ta’noj help him up.
“Wa’jeeh, you are next,” Ta’noj called
him over, “Maybe we can work some of that fat off of you.” Wa’jeeh growled
angrily as Ta’noj laughed. Shra’van smiled at his brothers. It has been over a
century since they last sparred together. It had been just as long since he had
seen Ta’noj laugh. He looked up when he heard one of the older warriors roar
angrily.
Ta’noj stopped and turned in the direction
of the roar. His pulse started to quicken as he sniffed the air. “Jasmine.”
“Don’t yell at her!” Aa’hana growled as
she looked up at the male.
“She obviously does not know that if she
stares at me, she will die!” he roared angrily. Jasmine tried to stand straight
and hoped no one could tell her legs were shaking. Although she looked away, it
was obviously not good enough.
“Tell him I said I was sorry,” Jasmine
whispered to Aa’hana.
“Do not apologize to him,” Aa’hana said
angrily.
“Your father needs to take a hand to your
backside, spoiled child!” he barked.
Ta’noj clasped his fists together before
slamming them down on the male’s head. The blow was tremendously loud and
Jasmine heard something crack as the Yautja fell to the ground in front of her.
“Ta’noj,” Su’tara yelled. Shra’van and
his brothers ran over in time to see the lifeless Yautja hit the floor.
Ta’noj stood back and roared angrily as
he looked at everyone. “Does anyone else have a problem with my mate!” he
snarled. To show disrespect, he kicked the dead male and asked the question
again. Shra’van touched his shoulder and without thinking, Ta’noj turned and
grabbed his throat. Seeing it was Shra’van, he quickly released his hold.
Shra’van looked at the guards that were assigned to Jasmine and pointed to the
body. They nodded and carried him away.
Ta’noj walked up to Jasmine and touched
her face softly. Jasmine had thought he was angry when he saw the bruise on her
neck from M’gor, but it was nothing compared to what she just witnessed. He had
become someone completely different. His eyes had gone dark and narrowed to
small slits.
Ta’noj's breathing was still erratic and
the vibration of his hair was almost a soft sway. She backed away from his
touch. “I don’t know you,” she whispered. He tried to touch her again, but she
pushed him away. “Stay away from me.” She grabbed Aa’hana’s hand and rushed out
of the hall.
Shra’van stood in front of Ta’noj and
shoved a tablet in his hands. “You are now the trainer for the morning class,”
Shra’van growled.
He looked at the tablet then at his
brother. “I train no one,” Ta’noj growled at him.
“You killed one of my best trainers!”
Shra’van walked closer to his brother and roared in his face. “You will train
the morning class until I am ready to find a replacement! Train or be
imprisoned for the remainder of the journey, because I will not tolerate your
type of aggression on my ship!”
Ta’noj stared at his brother angrily.
“Fine.”
“You will also apologize to his family
and surrender several of your weapons to them,” Shra’van barked. “You saw the
guards I assigned to her, Ta’noj! Jasmine was not in any danger. You cannot
kill because someone yells at her! I should force you to take on his mates!” Shra’van
could tell Ta’noj was holding back his anger. He watched his mandibles twitch.
The only time their hair had any vibration was when they were on a hunt. He
noticed that for Ta’noj, it was usually constant, unless Jasmine was around.
Shra’van had never heard the hall so
quiet. “If anyone roars, hisses or snarls at the ooman again, they will get
kicked out of an airlock,” Shra’van yelled at everyone. “Now go practice.” He
stared at Ta’noj a moment longer. “You have a class to train.”
“I am going to go find Jasmine,” he
hissed at Shra’van.
“I will find her, you have a job to do,”
Shra’van hissed back before leaving the room.
Su’tara walked up to Ta’noj and stared at
him for a moment. “You and I are going to have a talk later.”
“I am busy,” he snapped as he turned away
from his sister.
Su’tara roared as she grabbed his
shoulder and turned him around. “It is not optional, Ta’noj!” Though she was
shorter, she leaned in close to him so he could hear her. “Do not piss me off,
because unlike your brothers, I will kick your ass.”
Ta’noj fought Su’tara on several
occasions. He did not have the energy to fight her now. “Fine.”
“Where are we going?” Aa’hana questioned
as they walked down several corridors. “Are you ok? Why are you crying?”
Jasmine's head was too busy spinning to
answer any of Aa’hana’s questions. She held onto Aa’hana’s hand tightly. When
Jasmine turned down another corridor, she ran straight into Shra’van.
Shra’van tilted his head as he stared at
the distraught female. He looked down and saw how tightly she held to Aa’hana’s
hand. Shra’van watched the way her thumb gently caressed Aa’hana’s skin.
“Father did I do something wrong again?”
Aa’hana said softly.
He bent down to look at his daughter. “No
Aa’hana, you did nothing wrong. You can go play, and I will escort Jasmine to
our quarters.”
Aa’hana started to speak in Yautja. “I
think she is upset, because she’s crying.” Shra’van nodded and touched his
daughter’s cheek before she ran off. He stood up and touched Jasmine’s cheek.
“Sorry,” she whispered as she tried to
wipe her tears away. “I don’t care what you say. I want to go home. You can’t
keep me here like I’m some prisoner.”
“What about Ta’noj?” he questioned
softly. “Are you willing to leave your mate?”
“I want a divorce,” she barked. Shra’van
thought a moment and laughed.
“Sorry, unless another male wants you,
you are stuck with my little brother.” He started to walk her back to his
quarters. He could hear her soft sniffles. “You are angry with him. Have you
never seen Ta’noj kill before?”
“Yes, but he was saving my life.”
Shra’van turned to look at her. “Whether
you recognize it or not, he is still saving your life, no matter how great the
threat is. We protect our family no matter what.”
“It doesn't give him a right to kill!”
she snapped.
“As angry as I am with Ta’noj for his
actions, I can also understand them.” Shra’van thought back to when his father
killed several Yautjas on the new ship to protect his family. “Sometimes you
have to eliminate any potential threats to protect the ones you care about.”
Jasmine stopped and leaned against the
wall. He regarded her with great concern. “I’m tired,” she explained.
"Do you wish for me to carry you?”
Jasmine groaned and continued to walk.
She felt the muscles aching in her legs as they got closer to his quarters.
Jasmine stopped again. “How big is this damn ship? Do you walk like this
everyday? Wa’jeeh didn’t show me all of this.”
Shra’van stood in front of her and took
Jasmine's hand. He placed it on his thigh and watched as she gave it a gentle
squeeze. “Our bodies are far more muscular than yours,” he explained. “Though I
am half ooman, I do not lack any Yautja body structure.” He lifted her up and
carried her the rest of the way.
“How did your mother do it?” she
questioned when he sat her down on her bed.
Shra’van smiled. “That is a good
question. She used to jog daily, up and down the corridors, and she fought in
the evenings. My ooman grandfather had trained her since birth to live among
Yautjas. When she came aboard her first ship, within a day she was training the
younger males to be warriors.” He watched Jasmine’s eyes light up. “I will tell
you what Ta’noj has not someday.” Shra’van turned to leave.
“Will they all yell at me if I look at
them?” she watched him turn around and walk back to her. Shra’van sat down
slowly. Jasmine wrapped her arms around her stomach as she stared at Shra’van.
“It would not be so bad if you did not
have that slight look of disgust or amazement on your face every time you look
at us. Ta’noj should really allow you to stare and touch him more often.”
“He does,” she sighed. Jasmine gasped
when Shra’van took her hand and placed it on his face. She caressed the slop of
his brow softly. She tried not to smile when he started to purr loudly. Her
hand went over the soft hairs on his face. When Jasmine's fingers went over his
sharp teeth, he gently bit down on them. “Ouch!”
“Well keep your fingers out of my mouth,”
he chuckled.
She gave him a peculiar look. "Is
your tongue just as long and thick as Ta'noj?" Shra’van let out a sigh
before sticking his tongue out. "Wow."
"I am assuming my little brother has
pleased you with his tongue."
"I don't kiss and tell,"
Jasmine smiled as she continued to explore his body.
He welcomed her touch. It reminded him of
his mother's, when he was younger. He thought back to the times when they were
getting along. She would look at her tablet then sit it down to touch his face,
like she was studying him. The exact same way Jasmine was doing. He closed his
eyes as Jasmine caressed his cheek before touching his decorated mandible. Her
hand went under his chin and she softly scratched it. Shra’van opened his eyes
and grunted before pushing her hand away. “Are you curious about anything
else?” He playfully started to take off his cloth.
“No,” Jasmine covered her eyes. “The
first time I saw Ta’noj, it put me in shock.” Shra’van laughed at her.
“I was not going to show you,” he stood
up. “That is for my mates.” He stared at her for a moment. “Jasmine, my mother
was accepted by many, because she had great respect and acceptance for our
species. You need to learn quickly and Aa’hana will help you.” Shra’van nodded
slowly towards her before walking away.
“And if I don’t?” Jasmine crossed her
arms.
“You will die.”
