Thanks, I love you two. After having made this important statement,
I'll continue with the story:
Chapter 11 – Sandstorm
“Ardeth.” Rick pointed
towards a small crevice in the rock formation. Upon closer
inspection, it turned out to be a small cave, that was big enough for
both men to squeeze inside. They had to lie down, their bodies
pressed close to each other as that was the only way for them to fit
inside.
“What about the horses?”
“They are used to the rough
desert. We have to close the cave's entry with something or the sand
will blow in here.”
Rick, who lay closer to
the entry, put a blanket up against the fierce wind. Pinning it into
some cracks in the rock, they could only hope, that it would hold out
the assault of the storm. The wind had picked up and was howling
fiercely, throwing masses of sand up against their meager
protection..
Although he had spend
some time in the desert, Rick had never experienced a full blown
sandstorm. It was strange to hear the wind howling and hissing like a
wild animal, the blanket the only barrier between them and the
storm's fury. Next to himself, Rick could hear Ardeth's steady
breathing. The Med-jai was obviously completely unfazed by the storm.
Judging by the deep
steady breaths he was taking the Med-jai was asleep, so Rick risked a
glance at the other man. The light in the cave was dim, so all Rick
could see was the vague outline of his face and body. But his mind
filled in the details he was unable to see.
He remembered the
night, he had seen the Med-jai change. The tattoos adorning his
shoulders, the strong muscles and the smooth flawless skin. He could
feel the heat radiating off Ardeth's body, seeping into his own skin
and sending a bolt of arousal down to his groin. 'Shit. Now is really
not a good time for this.'
Trying to ignore his
longing cock, Rick calmed his breathing, attempting to sleep. But
that only heightened his awareness of the man lying next to his body.
If he reached out a few centimeters, he would be able to stroke his
hand over Ardeth's strong legs. Rick barely stifled the groan, that
came up in his throat.
He had to keep himself
under control. The chances, that the Med-jai would be disgusted by
his desire were high, because as far as he knew same sex relations
were forbidden in Islam. The friendship he shared with Ardeth was too
fragile and precious to destroy it by blatant advances. His best
option was to feign sleep and if Ardeth took notice of his arousal,
he could always pretend to have been dreaming of Evy. Closing his
eyes, he calmed his breathing into a normal sleeping pattern.

'Thank Allah, he's
finally asleep.' If Rick had known, that Ardeth was having problems
similar to his own, he would most likely have acted in another way.
The Med-jai had fruitlessly attempted to sleep, hoping that the
familiar sounds of the storm would keep his mind off the man lying
next to him.
It just hadn't worked
out that way. Now that Rick was asleep, he finally had the
opportunity to study him. Although the light was meager, Ardeth was
able to make out the contours of Rick's body. His clothing was wet
with perspiration and sticking to his skin, outlining his perfect
chest. Before his eyes could wander lower on his body, the Med-jai's
eyes were drawn to the blanket.
One of the edges had
come loose and another was already slipping out of the crack it had
been tucked into. The storm still hadn't lessened in it's intensity
and if the entrance was opened, they would be buried under tons of
sand within a few minutes.
Lifting himself up on
his elbow, almost cracking his skull on the ceiling, Ardeth grabbed
the edge of the blanket and tucked it back into the cracks. He also
checked the other edges, but they were still firmly enclosed in the
stone. Having completed his task, the Med-jai hesitated to lay back
down.
If he was careful
enough, he could let his hand brush over Rick's legs, pretending that
it was an accident in case the other man woke up. Unsure whether or
not he should give in to the temptation, his hand hovered in the air.
Checking that Rick's breathing was still in a steady sleep pattern,
Ardeth finally gave in.
Rick shifted the same
moment Ardeth attempted to brush his leg. Instead of his leg, the
Med-jai's hand briefly touched his hardened cock. Mortified Ardeth
lay back down, pretending to have accidentally made that move and
hoping that Rick was still asleep.
His heart hammering in
his chest, his cheeks flaming with embarrassment and his cock
hardened by the brief contact, Ardeth tried to concentrate on Rick's
breathing. It sounded like the other man was still asleep, probably
dreaming about his wife. Ardeth didn't delude himself by thinking,
that Rick could be dreaming about him, although he wished it was the
case.

Rick kept his eyes
firmly closed. 'Oh, God. He...he...' His brain was currently on
overload, trying to grasp what had just happened. Assembling the
pieces of his mind, Rick tried to get his breathing under control
again, while his cock demandingly throbbed in his pants.
He still wasn't
completely sure, what had happened, but Ardeth must have reached out
for the blanket and when he shifted in his feigned sleep, his hips
had accidentally come into contact with the Med-jai's hand. It never
even occurred to Rick, that Ardeth might have deliberately touched
him.
The rest of the night
both men lay next to each other, afraid to move. Each of them
pretending to sleep and waiting for the sandstorm to end. When it
finally did, the rising sun shone through the thin material of the
blanket and Rick immediately crawled out of the small cave.
The desert looked
completely different than the evening before. Sand dunes had changed
their positions and even some of the rocks had tumbled down the
slight slope. Rick was glad, when he saw their two horses get up,
shaking the sand from their bodies. Going over to check them for
injuries, he saw that their whole equipment was full of sand. He
tried his guns, but found that they had filled with sand and were
useless now.
He was still cursing,
when Ardeth finally emerged from the cave. “Is everything ok
with the horses, O'Connell?”
Rick was disappointed,
that Ardeth was back to calling him by his last name, but assumed
that the Med-jai was uncomfortable and embarrassed, probably even
disgusted about what had happened.
The ride to the temple
didn't take long, but the whole time an uncomfortable silence
stretched between the two men.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I think we should just look
for an underground chamber. I've been at this temple quite often and
I never saw a key before.”
While Ardeth read the
hieroglyphics inscribed in the temple walls, Rick was looking for
hidden chambers in the walls or under the floor. In the back of the
temple, he found a portrait of Horus, that looked a little strange.
When Rick knocked on the wall it sounded hollow, so all he had to do
was find the mechanism, that opened the hidden chamber.
“Ardeth, I think I found
something.”
The Med-jai joined him
immediately and the two of them tried to figure out, what they had to
do now. They were almost ready to give up, when Ardeth spotted a
second Horus statue, that was identical to the first. Walking over to
it, he quickly examined the smooth granite surface and found a small
hole. It was big enough to press his forefinger in and when he did,
the other statue sunk back into the wall.
Where the statue had
been before, they could now see a hole in the ground and some stairs,
that led under the temple. Following the narrow tunnel, they had to
duck their heads, before they came into a magnificent chamber. Across
the room on a stone altar sat a statue of Isis, holding the key in
her hand.
“Finally.” Rick was
about to fetch the key, when Ardeth held him back.
“We should be careful.”
Slowly they made their
way over to the altar, checking the floor for traps and loose bricks.
They had almost reached the statue, when suddenly Nefertiri's voice
appeared behind them.
“You really believe you can
stop me from fulfilling my plan? What fools you are.”
Ardeth and Rick turned
around, the Med-jai immediately drawing his sword. But before he
could react, Nefertiri pulled down the arm of the statue, that she
had been holding the whole time.
